Well , the last survivor of the Snow Elves said that some of his people might have survived the wrath of the Nords and the betrayal of the Dwemer , so their language is technically not dead .
Yeah. Actually, he himself is a Snow Elf, so was his brother, so even if they're the only survivors, that means their language still lives through them

True. Although given the lack of any Snow Elves anywhere else in Lore or mention by any sources, it seems they may have been killed off as the Nords rampages across all of Northern Tamriel, likely killing any and all Falmer they could find in the process 😓
Sadly, language death is more complex, it's when it's no longer spoken , not when it's no longer remembered. People today can speak latin, but it's still a dead language.
Language may be an incomplete part of the lore, but it's much better than in other fantasy worlds. I'm playing Final Fantasy 14 right now and there's barely any world-building like this.
I went to Iceland and, as an English speaker, I could pick out words on signs here and there. I met some Germans and they said they could understand a decent amount of Icelandic. Pretty neat since the Icelandic language has been isolated on an island for a thousand years.
Do we know anything about the thalmors opinion on Bretons? Since they came from elves and humans ,would they see them as any other human? As the "best version" of a human or even a disgrace to what the elves should be? It just popped into my mind as I thought up that bretons may find it easier to speak elven languages oppose to say imperial's but not as easily as obviously elves

We don't have any account of the Thalmor or the Altmer in general's opinion about bretons. I imagine it's similar to their opinion of Dunmer, where it depends on the context. They would certainly see them as humans, not as elves, but they' wage their elven blood makes them better than regular humans, but not enough to make them get any special rights. On the other hand, both races have a series of cultural similarities in how society is built and their primary interests. Altmer and bretons tend to get along easily in person, an both with dunmer, specially among mages, but if you ask them theoretically, without making them think of their own acquaintances, their opinions of those races are much worse.

The Bretons have pointed Ears and Sharp jaws and high cheek bones and very Intelligent in the schools of magic. They still claim their elven Ancestry.
I don't think they'd find it any easier to learn elven languages. Their ancestry doesn't make them any more literate in their people's original language. It'd be like if you had a Chinese guy who grew up speaking english. It's not any easier for him to learn Chinese just because his parents were Chinese.
Will you do a video explaining the human languages like yokudan, Atmoran and akaviri, etc ?

I mean… Subtitles are a thing. If they want to just make up a language all they have to do to translate it to English so we understand is use subtitles. Just out of translation. Sure it’s extra work but to gamers who like immersion it’s so worth it
There are certain dunmeri placenames which do tell about parts of the dunmer language.
Examples:
Ald'ruhn = Old Home, with Ald meaning old. This is repeated in a nearby coast town, Ald Velothi, which means Old Velothi. Gah Julan(armor type) = Great Benefit. I would suppose it is in the same order as the former term, which means that Gah is Great and Julan is benefit.
We also know of other terms like Molag(Fire), as used in Molag Mar, the town, and Molag Bal, the daedric prince of domination.

@@viveka2994 Fun. Remember that too, only did the Hlaalu questline once because right after that I had to traipse between Balmora, Caldera and Vivec which wasted a ton of time.
I assume that Velothi taught the Chimer to use the Daedric alphabet as part of setting themselves apart from the Altmer, according to the teachings of Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala. Did the Dunmer also adopt any of the Daedric language as a part of their own? And, are there any clues in-game regarding this? Or any resources in the Imperial Library?

I, appreciate, all you do on the channel.
So Bethesda only did alphabet substitution and word substitution which of course makes it easy to decode if given enough samples. This reminds me of an old DOS game, I believe it was SpaceQuest 3, it had what was supposed to be alien text for which you were supposed to find a code ring to decode. Everyone else at the office had spent more time than I at playing the games so already knew of the ring but they didn't say anything when I came across the texts. I quickly determined it was a substitution code by the word lengths and number of symbols and pulled out a pad of paper and decoded the text in a few minutes much to the amazement of my coworkers, hint start with single letter words then two letter words and three letter words and look for duplicate letters side by side. Given the Sherlock Holmes tale of the dancing men, I would've expected more kids to have learned how to decode substitution codes. Really these games should do something more complex like the simplified fictional languages such as Dothraki and Logograph writing such as hieroglyphs rather than phonetic writing such as our alphabet. It's really Logograph writing that requires us to find Rosetta Stone type references as the symbols can not only be words but entire phrases and need not have consistent subcomponents. Some logographs such as Mayan have wide variations in depictions such that many stylized depictions which would seem to be separate symbols are actually the same symbol and thereby requires us to determine what and why various alternate depictions be used and how are the depictions allowed to vary. Logographs would force the player to the written route to decoding the texts so really game designers should focus on them not substitution codes.

Aran Celemaril Nenagai. Nenagai looks to me like it's not 'Waters of Death', but 'Undead' with Ne meaning not and Nagai meaning dead. So the the translation would be more like 'King Celemaril Undead' or 'Undying King Celemaril'.

I know I'm years late on this.. I know that someone has already said this in one video or another, n I doubt anyone will even see this;
BUT
I need to say this now as I thought of it while I was watching this again, as I'm even a bit more comfortable to use english in comments nowadays than I was before. A bit more confident to write something without instantly being afraid that someone gets offended. AND there's never enough of this same comment even if there r many;
I absolutely love that on this channel u - as the narrator n it's owner - actually CREDIT all the people who's work u've used to make the video.
People who have drawn pictures, possibly sent some photos if you couldn't find/get your hands on the important stuff to take screenshots off urself, those who have given u information what you need for the proper narrating and scripting, someone or many people in ur comments who have asked you to make a video about something specific - or gave u ideas for them, and the ones who have found some information from the games to write it on some forums or other places to Internet.
- It's really rare, that people do that in their videos; especially during the vid and not only in some short part in the end, speaking so quick that no one will even stay to hear it. When they have already stated that all that is to b said that all that is important is already over.
Or at least there aren't enough of those.
Everyone wants to b seen as a person who finds n knows all their info themselves, n don't need anybody's help to get it or make the actual vid. Like they were an actual Loremaster of the series.
Even the background images rarely show who have made the pictures they use, even when they most often would easily find the name of the artist just by clicking the link in Google Images or whatever.
Almost always the owners of the channel don't give credit outside the people who support them with PayPal n shit - even leaving THEM out of the vid, or just saying something like "Thanks for the help from PayPal" or "Appreciate the people who use our PayPal" lmfao.
So this is often making me kind of emotional even, even when the credit is just shortly mentioned - which is obviously good as it doesn't go on to the point that the people watching would not remember what's going on in the actual vid itself. N possibly feel a bit weird by it.
U r honest about that even u need some help to write the scripts n get the visuals for the backgrounds - writing the name of the artist in front of them. Also I greatly appreciate how you don't just ramble on some boring, unimaginative n completely pointless crap just to get more minutes n by that probably make more money with those thousands upon thousands of views.
N u actually cover topics about the world which aren't so "obvious" in the lore. Not just talking hours about one race with the facts u tell could b read by anyone anywhere online, throwing in some of ur random thoughts which u make to sound much more essential than they are in the perspective of that subject in hand. N then saying a few words in the middle which actually aren't that easy to find n kinda force everyone who is interested about that area of the lore to watch the whole long ass vid, because obviously they wouldn't point out that one minute the words r stated.
U discuss even matters that "most people wouldn't b interested in" - like how wars would realistically work n take place in Tamriel, languages, living standards of the countries located inside it, shortly talking about some important individuals n/or families who inhabit/inhabited the land; even toilet n sever systems for fuck's sake..!
Things that will actually make this World seem real. Not just preach about the races n brief info on their history.
Thanks for making me believe that some channels r run by actually pretty sincere ppl. N for that u would absolutely deserve more subs n views than u still currently have - so u could possibly make more of what u can produce right now, even tho obv it would not b likely as it's a lot of work. Which is understandable for being capable to put out honestly useful content.
But if I could b only watching ur vids to get knowledge on the subjects I'm interested in, I would rather not continue watching those at least half an hour rambles on too many of the other channels circling around The Elder Scrolls -series; which mostly consist of only elements what most of the fans already possess. I would like to b able to appreciate n enjoy things that I watch.

If nenagai is a made up of the words for water and death could that instead be translated directly into water-death or in other words drowning. I don't know the lore behind this king celemaril but could the tablet have been a way of communicating that that king had drowned or died in water some other way?

Oh-- I've got an actual question: Have you done, or would you do, a video about the geography and climate of Tamriel? I ask because I first started playing Morrowind, and it seemed to me that the island of Vvardenfell was quite a hot, dry place. However, with subsequent games, and learning more about the geography of the land, at least half of Morrowind (and the entirety of Vvardenfell) are as far north as Skyrim. I would imagine, therefore that Morrowind SHOULD have a climate much like Iceland's-- cold, but with plenty of geothermal heat in certain locations. But I find it confusing since places like the Bitter Coast and the Ascadian Isles are so lush. So-- what gives with Tamrielic climate? Is it affected by magic more than air and sea currents, or latitude?

@@viveka2994 I thought of that once, too. Yeah, but, see; Iceland also hosts a lot of active volcanoes, but due to its latitude, it manages to be quite chilly.
Why has no one used the official translation of the stone to learn about the dwemer and falmer language. If the translation is canon it should be possible, unless i’m missing something

It probably would have made Skyrim even more loyal than when it was under the Septims.
I mean we can't exclude the possibility of there being a civil war. But I think the chance of there being one would definitely be smaller.

Does my theory of bretons speaking french makes sense? Since the bretons are inspired by celtic french? As we can hear them say some french words like in eso where they often refere women as "dame" (lady). So this would explain a lot on their very french-sounding names.

Dame in English is the female of knight. In French too, to be honest, but it gets use a lot in the sense of a polite way to refer to a woman. That said, the bretons seem to be a mix of French, English and various Celtic peoples like Bretons (hence the name), Welsh, Scots and Irish.

I thought English came from Latin not Germanic?
Old English AKA Anglo-saxon was a germanic language that was spoken by the people in what we now call England in the early middle ages. After the Norman conquest of England the English nobility was replaced with a Norman nobility while peasants remained Anglo-Saxon. That evolved into middle English which later evolved into modern English. The Norman Language was a mix between Norse and French (and French is also a mix of Celtic Latin and germanic). So English has roots from all the big language groups in europe except for slavic. But the language is mostly germanic with more fancy words of latin origin and some minor Celtics influences.
2:36 - wut? Silesian in germanic languages group? WTF? It's literally so close to Polish that most researches don;t even cosnider it seperate language just a dialect of Polish. Have the person making that map even seen Silesian with their own two eyes? Even Kashubian is clsoer to German as it actually borrows a lot of words and consturctions from it (thou it's still distinctivly slavic and closer to Polish or even Czech or Slovak than to any of Germanic languages).
