    40s yrs. I have a Traditional TSP. Should I move my Tradional TSP funds into to a Roth TSP? Or open a Roth TSP? Or just increase the % I invest into the traditional TSP bi-weekly?

    • @mia-pham
      @mia-pham  2 года назад +2

      I keep my TSP in the traditional to keep my portfolio diversified with some Roth and some Traditional. It depends what your plans are. Are you planning to retire early or work until the traditional retirement age? Also, will you be in a higher tax bracket at retirement (some people who retire early are able to keep their income low enough that they aren’t paying any taxes)?

      @@mia-pham plan on retiring as soon as I hit the requirement. So in about 13 yrs. Currently, a 12 in Houston/Woodlands area and investing 15%. I think it is to late to start a Roth Tsp and should just increase my percentage.

    Does it make sense to fund my Roth IRA at the beginning of the year, or spread out my contributions with dollar cost averaging method?

    • @mia-pham
      @mia-pham  2 года назад +1

      It is often recommended to invest your money as soon as possible since the stock market is generally up 2/3 of the time. Investing earlier will give your money more time to grow. However, during periods of market volatility, like we are in now, one study found that there is a slight advantage to dollar cost averaging. Personally for me, I just invested it all at once at the beginning of the year. You’ll be fine either way. The important thing is that you are investing.

    Hello Mia thanks for the video.
    I have a question if u can please gave yr opinion I currently have fidelity Roth IRA FIOFX Which is the Target date fund. I recently find out FXAIX which is the s& p 500. My understanding the s& p FXAIX is better return and low expensive ratio.
    So if u can tell me which one is better return and I’m 40 year old I don’t mind taking the risk. Also I heard u mentioned about TSP. My wife is a fed employee and would u suggest the Roth or traditional TSP there is a large debate on this subject also what funds in TSP u recommend. Thanks in advance.

      I am not a financial planner so unfortunately, I can’t recommend specific funds but if one fund has historically performed much better than the other and it has lower expense ratios, then I’d invest in that fund. I’d make sure that the fund has been around for a long time though. Don’t chase short term returns-it’s how you can lose money investing. Look for funds with an established history.
      I invest in the traditional TSP to lower my taxes, keep my portfolio diversified since I already have a Roth IRA, and also because I plan to retire early so my income will be lower in my later years. Everyone’s situation is different though. If you’re planning to retire at traditional age and your income is forecasted to be higher than it is now, you will need to do the math to determine whether the traditional or Roth will make more sense for your situation.

    But how can you retire off of it young if you can’t touch it until you’re 59 1/2years of age? How can young people retire?
