I think it’s really convenient how this guy completely disappeared for the last 4 games we played and then just randomly pops up when we have a stinker.
@@zerofox641 Tottenham fan here. Son would definitely score those chances but I'm not sure he'd get in those positions though. Werner is really good at getting in them, terrible at putting the chances away.
Prior to this game, the narrative about Tottenham was they risked losing a game like this because Ange is naive, never had a plan B. (And if you think this isn’t the case, then you’re probably kidding to yourself). Relentlessly heard about how Spurs’ high line was going to leave them exposed to a Man United side, who had some of the best xG performances this season, despite the results. So obviously, the narrative must now shift to “it was only Man United”. Because football narratives are overly simplistic and struggle to evolve. All it takes is to challenge the belief that Ange hasn’t changed. Because he quite clearly has: his fullbacks are inverting less (plenty of heat map data to prove this if the eye test fails), he’s now got creative players like Kulu and Maddison in the half spaces rather than said fullbacks. The transition defence is now much better. The set pieces defending is better. The pressing is more coordinated. All the stats prove this vs last season, and getting better as the season goes on. So really: if you want to believe the narrative that Ange is naive and will never adapt (because some half wit pundits keep repeating it), then by all means have at it. But don’t act surprised when the performances and results keep improving.
@@thetraveldrunk I fully expected to going into the game tbh. It’s not so much the results because there have been some disappointments but the performances we’ve seen so far this season are up a level

@@davidmcgeoch9387for real 👌 The reason we've been persistently playing this way is for games like this... We might lose a few in the first season and a bit, but after 2-3 seasons of continuously trying to dominate games, things will get refined and we will make dominant performances a habit.
@@horsebox5138 Because Spurs are the most hated team in the league. They're literally the biggest rivals of Chelsea, Arsenal, and West Ham, Spurs will be challenging for the title within 2-3 seasons imo
People ripped Solanke for not making an instant impact. He's no superstar like Haaland or Mbappe, and he doesn't have to be. Ange didn't sign him just for his goal-scoring abilities. Solanke's positioning, awareness, and tenacity fits the bill for the gap in front line we needed to fill since Kane's departure. Will he give us 20 goals? Honestly, that would be great imo, but if his impact helps us win more then I'll take that any day. Any sane fan would.
It did go to VAR. They backed the decision. He has purposefully struck out at the players leg far away from the ball. He's lucky he didn't hurt him. It was more than just uncontrolled, it was violent. He has slipped, he knows the player is breaking, he purposefully throws his leg out to strike at the attacker with clear intent to bring him down, and he's done it in a way that is uncontrolled and with zero intent of getting the ball. A clear red card.
ange really transformed tottenham. he was/is the better the manager. He outclassed ETH & made look like the scrub of a manager he is, Ange & Tottenham destroyed United
Casuals still have a narrative Romero is rash which is so boring. He's hardly made many fouls or picked up yellows. Martinez is everything the media think Romero is. Romero is a elite cb and doesn't get enough respect from rivals.
That’s cap Bruno’s by far the most hated player in the league any other player gets sent off for that and people would be outraged it’s a terrible decision
As a spurs fan, what I’m really excited for is when Richarlison comes back from injury, especially for out of possession. Imagine, you’re a defender, you’ve had to deal with solanke closing you down for 70 minutes, the last thing you’re gonna want is then a fresh Richarlison coming on and getting at ya after having to deal with solanke all that time
that Van de Ven run coupled with the Twente goal following the marauding run from their I think RB(?) seem to suggest Man Utd players just don't care anymore. You can't have a CB and a RB run past 6-7 players virtually untouched at this level. Either your spacing and shape is so bad there's that much space or you've got players who don't want to fight and are happy to see them waltz past. Not a good look for ETH and Utd.
I think James said it in the video, a large part of playing is mentality and when you have players not chasing back or just letting players waltz through that's when the fans turn. I'm a Spurs fan and someone like Werner is frustrating technically sometimes, but he puts in a shift. I know that seems like a fairly low bar, but when that's combined with everyone working hard to press and chase down you forgive a few poor results here and there. I thought Utd would win today but I think Solanke and Kulusevski's pressing is starting to make me see what the plan is at Spurs more with each game. It's part transitional with the pressing and Solanke and Kulusevski have made a huge difference in the last few games
I thought being out of control in a tackle is a factor for a red card..Yes he slips, but he still commits. so it's high and because he's slipped he's out of control...how is that not a red? he didn't mean it, of course. but it was a high out of control challenge. he should have pulled his foot back
Not sure i agree with "he didnt mean it" he slipped granted but he still lunged at maddison. There was intent and it was out of control. The fact he didn't make much contact and didn't do any damage was just luck.
Kulusevski has always said this is his strongest position and now he's having a run of games there he's proving it. He's gonna be a massive player for Spurs moving forward.
It's a red, because after he slips, he deliberately raises his foot to try and catch Madders. Watch it again, he doesn't slip and make contact. He slips, and then tries to hack him down
i hate the word philosophy in football because people just use it as a catch all term for when teams are winning, but ETH is in his 3rd year now and i still have no idea what he’s trying to do. he’s signed a supposed world class GK distributor, 2 progressive passing centre backs and then they just opt to concede possession, not sure if changing manager even helps them but you’d expect some form of progress in 3 years and i can’t really see any from what Ole was trying to do.
First half against palace was the first signs of what it feels like ETH wants to implement, fast and short pass and move, committing bodies forward and not giving the opposition a chance to press as a team, with a high defensive line of course. Today all of that went out the window. It looked like we were purposefully allowing spurs to beat the 'forward press' in the hopes we could win the ball deep and counter spurs' high line (note the inclusion of rashford and garnacho rather than amad). If true, it's worrying ETH doesn't believe in his own 'philosophy', nevermind the players he's picking.
What I’ve learned over the last few years is that whether the internet thinks a team has a “style of play/philosophy” is basically “is the team winning”
@@glimmer_twin because the internet is stupid. Fact is that ETH hasn't shown a style of play for longer than 40 minutes. Even when united were quite good in his first season they were only good because after losing his first two games ETH opted to play safe counter attacking football for the rest of the season. When United play pragmatic they're normally ok, but it does mean that they have the occasional game where the opposition just steam rolls them and they can't ever escape their own third (look at the liverpool games or this game). However, any time ETH has tried to change up this pragmatism the team look completely lost.
Is the linesman not allowed to help the referee decide decisions? So what if the ref was looking at the linesman. The linesman flagged quickly and the referee straight away got the information needed. Yes Bruno slips, but continues to raise his foot high, with studs shown as the ball has quite clearly got away from him. Why does he need to raise his studs high if the balls gone? Just because the connection is not solid, does not mean it's not a red card. The dangerous intent is there and it was disgusting.
Even if it is your teammate or an opposition’s player, you gotta show that level of respect, thus safety to each other. Holgate’s tackle to Mitoma was pure malice and no excuse to this one. Bruno has every chance within his conscience to tuck the foot in and just swipe Maddison instead. But he chose to further extend that foot full of studs and swipe Maddison.
@@PoliAstroN yes, spurs have been inconsistent at getting it right. I'm saying soon they will consistently get it right and their opponents will have to show if they actually can deal with spurs playing well
Jim, the red card. It was by the rules of the game for the simple fact that Fernandes' intent was to take him out, whether he meant it or not doesn't matter by the law of the game. He was out of control and during his slip, you saw he moved his leg to take him out, his studs were up, he was out of control and it was Knee height. Whether you think it should be or not is fine but you can't argue by the laws of the game that is isn't a red.
@@Padbot1 Yes, they would have been beaten either way because Man U are an embarrassment. Don't tell me to get a grip, the laws literally tell you that is a Red. The fact you don't even think that is a yellow tells me you aren't thinking straight.
I'm surprised the general consensus is that it shouldn't have been a red to be honest... I'm naturally biased to Spurs, but I do have some sympathy because Bruno slipped and just reacted in a moment only mildly hurting the player... It's just that he made a deliberate movement to take out Maddison after he lost control of the challenge, which kills any argument IMO. Only his left hand was on the ground when he made contact, both his feet were in the air and he seemed to deliberately kick high up the shin... To the letter of the law that is "serious foul play" if the ref thinks it could have endangered the opponent 🤷♂️
Completely right, and others including myself made similar comments. Also in the press conference Bruno said he meant to take Madison down but he thought it would be a yellow card
Your analysis is excellent! You examine the synergies and mentalities of players rather than just focusing on the formations. Well done mate. I'll be watching more often.
That red from last season still rubs me the wrong way. He didn’t even slide over the ball, he kicked through it and got in trouble because the opposition player has his leg behind it
@@ryanw2170 I often think about what could have been if Romero didn't get that red. Chelsea wouldn't have had the penalty, we were playing well and would have had 11 men, there's an argument that VDV wouldn't have to extend himself as much and stays injury free, Udogie probably doesn't get sent off because we control the game more and we have a full strength back line for more of the season. That red cost us about 11 points just in that 5 game run IMO... I'm not bitter, honest 😂
Decent analysis as always. im a Spurs fan, and I know people will say im biased but if the football gods had been with us so far this season the way weve dominated games we could easily have had 6 more points. If we just get our share of good fortune we will do something this season.
The red was reviewed by VAR and on field decision was upheld. I wouldn't say it was a red for me but Bruno slipped and left his foot in. That forces a decision from the ref and in real time it looks bad.
Utd fan here. Even with 11 Spurs were well clear. My main worry for ETH is that we keep getting rocked by teams who we know exactly how they play, Spurs, Brentford, Arsenal, Liverpool. Everyone knows Angeball tries to press high whether home or away, attack attack even when a goal up… Utd started slow, and after the previous draws and pressure you need yet another huge characterful performance. Yet before they’re even tired no one contests Van de Ven and of course Dalot watching Johnson. Getting performances like the FA final is great, but not when thats 1/5 matches, often less. You need a tailored approach for each opponent, so who’s fault is it when the players are lost, and we’ve abandoned half the positives from the new approach this season.
Love your work James, but I have to disagree with your comment that the red made a difference - look at the stats when they had 11 men, they were still bad. But yeh, as a Spurs fan I thought the red was a joke. Absolutely loving Solanke, his pressing, 1st touch and link up play are fantastic and he's a proper Franny Jeffers in the box. In regards to the first goal, as you pointed out there was only one thing that was going to happen, I can't help but feel Onana could have left his near post a little more to try to intercept the cross. The odds of Micky beating him were basically none, so he was always going to cross it, and I think he could have gambled more on the interception.
Not really, he wasn’t even close to their first choice target. They basically brought in a body. Likewise with amarbrat last season. They hoped Casemiro would be the guy and the club clearly don’t have any knowledge with recruitment.
Ange played the same system last year. The one thing missing was a no 8 who add something different. Benta and Yevs are too defensive. Last season when Madison was marked out of the game Spurs didn't have anyone else. Kulu has solved this. Its interesting. It seems Kulu never drops deep he always stays up how ever Maddison drops deep and then makes run from deep. Those two will get a real link going. Spurs now have three players in the middle that can pick a pass. It did get checked and the VAR agreed with the ref.
James, appreciate you actually talking about Tottenham's quality instead of simply fixating on Man U's demise. I sense so many pundits are annoyed at having to update their narrative about an "inflexible and naive" Ange ball. (some irony about flexibility there, eh?) But I'm just loving this team right now. Results aside, we're so young, fresh, and ideologically determined. It's just fun-and I wouldn't trade that for anything.
I feel for the second goal could have been stopped if mazraoui shifts and marks kulu, because de ligt already did a good job to force a pass from johnson, I feel both fullbacks were absolutely abysmal
I'm an Ipswich fan so I watched our game and then this one back to back and honestly? If we'd played Man United today we would have absolutely ripped them apart.
The thing we must note Jim is that United play exactly like this every single game. People just don’t watch it week in week out, only notice it at bigger games. They played like this against Coventry last year and will play like this against every opponent this season. Spurs were not great, United just suck that much. They are consistently shite in terms of build up and defending and occasionally get bailed out by poor defences or mistakes/individual brilliance. They have no structure or style of play, that’s on the managers and players. Every individual in that team needs to be replaced asap. Top to bottom scrap it all
You can kind of see what ETH is trying to do buts it simply isn’t working. He’s obviously asked his team to be aggressive buts it’s so high risk it’s untrue. Martinez for example seems to be diving in relentlessly to the point of recklessness. On the other end of the scale Rashford - you can just tell that he is not happy with the tactical approach. With Ange you can see that the players have bought into the managers vision, just their energy levels alone shows that. They look drilled - the patterns are there to see, the players take care with the ball. With Utd they’re so hurried in everything they do, take sooo many chances. Between Bruno, Garnacho & Rashford, Utd are taking huge chances, gifting the ball away and then leaving them exposed on transition. The rest defence is non existent. ETH has definitely lost the dressing room. Once that happens there’s no way back. His methods simply don’t with this team. Looking at how lethargic Utd seem I doubt that he’s the type that is inspiring the players ala Pep, Klopp, etc. RVN as caretaker until the next big gamble - Nagelsman?
I will never be ashamed of supporting Man United. It’s my club. We are in a bad state, and for that I want a change. That’s all really. I want to go into a game with hope. Right now that’s not happening.
@@davidmcgeoch9387 ETH say eras come to an end... did anyone in the 80s think Everton would be in a constant battle for relegation and havent won anything since then? The beauty of football is that big clubs can get shit and small clubs can get good. It would make football boring if it was always the same winners. United are on a slow and painful decline and it's great being a rival. Maybe they'll come back but at this point who knows how bad it can get
@@benedictharrison2819 I think any team can be turned around if the right manager and staff are brought in. It starts with good decisions from the top.
I really respect Ange sticking with Johnson when he looked off it. Fans were calling for blood but Ange clearly knew the kid could fit the bill and since then he's bagged 4 in 4. Trust the manager, trust the guy who sees these players day-in-day-out on the training pitch. We look unplayable since the adaptations after the Gooner game
what i find is that even in prior man united games, they always control possession in their own defensive third, in places that offer no overall utility. As soon as a team press them high up, they crumble and force the ball up. The inability to control the game is and has always been a problem
I was watching on TV. The incident did go to VAR, who did not recommend over turning the matter, which is on trend with what we knew var would be doing. In my own opinion on the red, if it isn't given, VAR doesn't over turn. If it is, they won't. It's on that fine margin. Why did Fernandes lift his foot in that way when he fell? As anyone who has played will tell you, that isn't natural. That said, the contact was soft.
Regarding Bruno’s red, it did go to VAR, all referee decisions go to VAR, but it’s only those decisions that the VAR calls into question that requires the on-field referee to review his decision on the screen at the side of the pitch, hence the decision to show a red card went to VAR and the VAR decided the on-field decision was correct.
Great review 100% on mark on all comments, Suprs fans have been over the top at times having a crack at Ange and the team this year, it really is exciting to watch.
great analysis as always, but disagree re the red. When I was a kid it was just a foul but these days it is always a red card. He slipped, but then it is clear that he tries to take him out & had studs up.
I like your unbiased commentary. We always like to pile on the misery when a team is battered and when players we don't like are sent off, but I think that was a very harsh red card. Not that it would have changed the game though.
Great analyses but I would give a counter point to the red, as its a soft red but still within the confines of "can be given as a red" Intent - Even with the slip, the follow-up action (kicking out with studs up, as it started with studs up) could be interpreted as an attempt to stop the attacking player dangerously, while he's slipping there no chance of him reaching the ball as Mads has gone past him, he's kicked out to stop the counter. The referee may still issue a red card if they believe the challenge was dangerous enough to warrant a dismissal. I don't think it was fully dangerous enough to serve a red for danger but a yellow, but in when you combines the other two below, you can start to understand why it could be classed as a red if the refs stand by it after an appeal. Endangering an Opponent - Using the refs rule book, if a tackle endangers the safety of an opponent or is carried out with excessive force, it is considered serious foul play, which typically results in a red card. This is the soft side, the slip Bruno still decides to lash out with the follow through kick that did initially have studs up from the angle he was coming from with the slip. There's enough time for him to not go ahead with that swing but he wants to stop the counter. Studs Up - He's making the initial challenge with studs up, it's considered dangerous play. The tackle was reckless with studs showing which runs the risks being sent off. Again I say its light for a red but I believe that's what has been seen by the refs and VAR on review, there's enough tick boxes checked by Bruno in the incident for VAR to stand with the on pitch decision
Kulu is becoming the new Mueller. Not really a forward, or a winger or a mid. They’re a bit different in that Mueller was silkier and a clinical finisher while Kulu is a stronger runner and has a higher defensive work rate. However they’re both playing as a raumdeuter, being able to exploit the spaces, particularly between the lines.
@@denisewilson9783 harm him how? He was taking shots from outside the box. Lamine was 16 starting for Barca. Mikey is ready bergvall is ready and gray also
Bruno’s red was fully deserved. The second lunge raising his boot was an obvious attempt to hurt/injure Madison. He had no chance at the ball and raised his leg to try and do more damage with the tackle. If it had landed more square on Madders leg, there would be no conversation to be had.
Said this on the Highlights video, United lost this match long before Bruno was sent off. They were not switching on, every loose ball went to Tottenham meaning you press even longer (so maybe fatigue), but then they switched on after their mistakes, didn't get a goal, then they just got frustrated and lost the game mentally, yellow card after yellow card, till Bruno got the red card. United are mentally weak, they have skill but they play with so little confidence, it's scary. ETH tactics need them to have good ball control and passing (with confidence). They show this against non EPL teams, which is ANNOYING TO Watch. Safe to say I watched till half time and then knew we'd lost. ETH may have imperfect tactics, but moments like Dalot leaving Johnson open and 3 players watching Van Den Ven definitely make him look FAR worse than he is.
Don’t talk about kukusevski’s lack of output.! He’s been that good for a year now. Richarlison and Werner’s utter hopelessness has cost him a bucket load of assists. Kulu is top, top drawer, potentially KdB levels now he’s matured
12:34 I think that might be considered the Zidane Protocol. The Linesman saved the ref. This one to but I think he was on dependent on the linesman too much. There should be a congregation and a jury like decision to determine red cards and penalties with VAR.
Here's the thing about the Red; I'm not saying its an obvious, nailed-on red. But if you back it up a frame or two from your still, you'll see that part of the "studs down" of Bruno's tackled is from the contact with Maddison's knee. His studs *are* up when he lunges, and despite it not being "violent" or "too hard", he goes in knee high, with his studs showing. I'm not saying it's a definite red card, but he can't have too many complaints about it either.
Bruno had made his mind up to take Maddison out, as he’s been schooled for 45 mins and didn’t like it. Yes the slip probably turned it from a yellow to a red, but boo boo. Don’t set out to foul people and you won’t get red In any case the red meant more lenient refereeing for Man U second half, otherwise there’s zero question that the short arsed thug at centre back would have gone
Followed Ange since Brisbane but not round ball inclined. Seems 75% complete with his group. It's the player ... size and ability to suit the standard hence he took none from Celtic. Reckon he's finding ready made players a bit expensive in EPL...he fancies a bargain. Much is said about his teams turning on after 2 years but I think a realistic extra 3rd year for EPL. Look for fireworks once he gets near 90%. Cheers to all from Oz
It was reckless and dangerous to the rule of law. He was slipping and he lift his leg to stop Maddison, so basically out of control and throwing his leg at opponent to stop them quite cynically. He would have been better off just grabbing him lightly as he was slipping and get a yellow. But he decided to throw leg out recklessly and out of control(in the heat of the moment) and all the commentators have no idea (seriously) that say it should have been a yellow. It wasn't so much that it was a very dangerous tackle, but it could have been (intent), he could have pulled out. The player themself, has no idea, saying he shouldn't have got a red. It's a red everytime I look at it. VAR did review and decided it was a red worthy.
It would be a lot more fun if you went through more of spurs’s patterns and what they might use in this game rather than slating the opposition. Most people want to hear positivity and excitement about their own teams here they don’t really want to hear about the opposition playing poorly. Like Ted Knutsen (formerly statsbomb does it.
Played into our hands as they wanted to play their game, rather than countering Spurs. Issue is, their game was non-existent and that allowed ours to not only work but excel. Red card (wrongly) put it to bed for us but no Spurs is ever confident until we’re 3-0 up
With tottenham, the assessment isnt that they are frustrating that they are missing their chances or being too positive. It is that they are learning. Learning angeball, and you can see the jigsaw pieces coming together gradually. They are creating many chances. They are letting in fewer goals. Ange is about constant improvement through giving it a go. They English "criticism" culture misses the point of the process and learning and building. It is why the English national team, were also so crushed by the public's disappointment - probably true for Man U too. ETH does not seem to be playing a system he has the players for. Horse before the cart. Postecoglu started a system that didnt suit some of their exisitng players, promoted the young guns who could, and is gradully encouraging and bringing in players to suit.
IMHO: Ten Hag tries to coach too much and changes so much each game it unsettles his players. Hence a cup he can get the players to fully study and concentrate and play well but when he tries to implement something different against a team like Tottenham on a regular game they aren't sharp with the new instructions. He needs to concentrate on what Man U are supposed to play like, not how to beat the other team. Build consistency. Van de Ven goes on a run and Johnson instantly starts sprinting to the spot because he knows whats coming next. That takes time to build that trust and sharpness required to win the Prem.
24:15 Man utd have long since passed the point where I want to watch them lose… I just don’t care to even think about them playing. It’s such a bad team, and yet every weekend it feels like your typical ex-utd player is expecting them to suddenly u-turn, win the league. Even reacting to them losing as if it’s on the same level of shock as an Arsenal, city, Liverpool even Villa losing at the moment, and yet in reality them losing is common. I don’t see utd turning it around without selling more of the players in the spine of the team to really clear out the results culture from the past 5years and ten Haag probably has shown he can’t be a motivator to encourage a turn around with the rest
Its a red. Whenever you're out of control of your body *and* hit someone in the knee with your foot, its a red. The fact he slipped is irrelevant, he still raises his foot towards the knee after the slip. Both Maddison and Bruno were lucky that studs didnt make contact.
Agreed he was slipping past mads (out of control) and he stuck his leg out studs up towards maddisons leg. The fact that his heel hit the shin was nothing more than good luck. He was off balance and out of control and chose to throw his studs towards another player. For me it only a red because he slipped as if he had control of his body he wouldn't be endangering the player half as much but knowing he was off balance and out of control he threw his leg studs up in a different direction to the one he was sliding in and was willing to risk endangering the player. So its a red based on that alone. He didn't slip and slide into mads. He was slipping past but decided to make an out of control deliberate foul anyway.
The sending off would have made no difference. Tottenham were all over Manchester United even before that happened. 6-0 would have been a fair result. Replace Timo for a fit Son then it would have been 6.
Why do you think Micky VDV and others bomb forward with no fear - Ange gives them permission and demands courage - I would rather watch that approach any day ! In the epl unless you have some of the worlds best players just sitting in and being defensive and hoping to grab a counter attack goal on a break you’re not winning the leauge anyway - - keep going Ange!
the moment you allow "high" chatters, players will all do it. if all players do it, someone is getting injured. it was a clumsy and dangerous foul, ball was nowhere near

The reason we've been persistently playing this way is for games like this... We might lose a few in the first season and a bit, but after 2-3 seasons of continuously trying to dominate games, things will get refined and we will make dominant performances a habit.
Why does everyone preface any Spurs praise with something that brings them down, like "spurs will lose a few this season"?
@@horsebox5138 Because Spurs are the most hated team in the league. They're literally the biggest rivals of Chelsea, Arsenal, and West Ham, Spurs will be challenging for the title within 2-3 seasons imo
Anges teams are always good to watch, im very pleased for him, he is a good manager
Ange Ball - Phase 2.0 - still not yet there but coming together nicely
Exactly, unfortunately some expect an "instant" result after 1.5 seasons, while ignoring the 1st season result, after the team's key player left too.
He doesn't need to, Brennan is giving us 20 this year
Agree totally that he has Kane like qualities.
Solanke defending corners too. Very useful player. Good purchase.
Spot on, can't believe the amount of people that are just ignorant to it..
Seriously, people are being so ignorant about that. He intentionally kicked out at Maddison, and that too high and with his studs up.
ange really transformed tottenham. he was/is the better the manager. He outclassed ETH & made look like the scrub of a manager he is, Ange & Tottenham destroyed United
People are quick to defend Bruno’s tackle but if that was Romero people would be chanting for blood.
Casuals still have a narrative Romero is rash which is so boring. He's hardly made many fouls or picked up yellows. Martinez is everything the media think Romero is. Romero is a elite cb and doesn't get enough respect from rivals.
@@lukebullen705he can be a bit rash but not as much as ppl make it out to be

@@brandonwoodward5563 sorry mate , tricky read this, are you saying it was a red l?
To be fair, Van De Ven is literally the fastest player in the league. I saw 3 Man U players try to stop him, but they just couldn't keep up.
He meant it. He said in the press conference “I meant to take him down”. He just thought he would get a yellow. Wrong.
Agreed, he skips then kicks out to try to take him out. It's luck he doesn't land his studs on him and break his leg.
he did mean it though
This is in no way a red card.
Kulusevski has always said this is his strongest position and now he's having a run of games there he's proving it. He's gonna be a massive player for Spurs moving forward.
That was some run from Mickey Van De Ven, it was like Forrest Gump!
James you are the second (non-Spurs) vlogger on English football today saying Kulu is the most underrated player in the EPL
I know it sounds crazy, but honestly, I want what Chelsea is doing.

But he chose to further extend that foot full of studs and swipe Maddison.

great breakdown Jim. We really have a squad who are 100% Ange's boys. Pure buy in.
Would you ever a get a grip. It wasn't even a yellow. United would been beaten well either way.
@@Padbot1 Yes, they would have been beaten either way because Man U are an embarrassment. Don't tell me to get a grip, the laws literally tell you that is a Red. The fact you don't even think that is a yellow tells me you aren't thinking straight.
I fully agree with this. he slipped yes, but he still then lunged at maddison. Because of that it was out of control.
Also in the press conference Bruno said he meant to take Madison down but he thought it would be a yellow card
exactly could have endangered the opponent, Most people think it was ok cos he hit him with the ankle, but it could have been rasty challenge.
Red card all day long
Your analysis is excellent! You examine the synergies and mentalities of players rather than just focusing on the formations. Well done mate. I'll be watching more often.
Bruno was a red remember Romero got sent of for sliding over the ball a nd accidentally getting the man
That red from last season still rubs me the wrong way.

Ange’s plan B is…execute plan A better. Finally, people are starting to get it.
Van de ven is unreal top 5 defenders on the planet rn

Awesome analysis James. "They're better. They're a better team." That hit!
(some irony about flexibility there, eh?)
But I'm just loving this team right now. Results aside, we're so young, fresh, and ideologically determined. It's just fun-and I wouldn't trade that for anything.
16:12 the only other centre backs in the world who would try that other than van de ven is murillo from forest and igor from brighton
Interesting layout having the next clip of your slideshow available to the viewer.
Top to bottom scrap it all
It's just who we are mate!
VdV should play CF for Spurs at times.
I will never be ashamed of supporting Man United. It’s my club. We are in a bad state, and for that I want a change. That’s all really. I want to go into a game with hope. Right now that’s not happening.

Great analyses but I would give a counter point to the red, as its a soft red but still within the confines of "can be given as a red"
Intent - Even with the slip, the follow-up action (kicking out with studs up, as it started with studs up) could be interpreted as an attempt to stop the attacking player dangerously, while he's slipping there no chance of him reaching the ball as Mads has gone past him, he's kicked out to stop the counter.
First time I have seen your content James, awesome work, Keep it up, Dean (Tekkers from CartyFreeCaptain).
Mikey Moore should be 2nd string from now on

@@denisewilson9783 harm him how? He was taking shots from outside the box. Lamine was 16 starting for Barca. Mikey is ready bergvall is ready and gray also
Bruno’s red was fully deserved. The second lunge raising his boot was an obvious attempt to hurt/injure Madison. He had no chance at the ball and raised his leg to try and do more damage with the tackle. If it had landed more square on Madders leg, there would be no conversation to be had.
Could you make a video on hansi flick and Barcelona
the red card went to VAR and they agreed wih the ref
He means, he would've hoped VAR would tell the ref it wasn't studs up. Not that they literally didn't take a second look
Isn’t it that… they can’t see a reason to reverse the decision, therefore it stands?
Spurs domination!! Great game and so fun to watch!!
Great analysis 👌🏽
Jim mate you couldn’t give us 12 hours to grieve?
Don’t set out to foul people and you won’t get red
In any case the red meant more lenient refereeing for Man U second half, otherwise there’s zero question that the short arsed thug at centre back would have gone
yeah; I get why people may think it was Harsh, but when you're studs are knee high and you've determined to make contact... you can't complain.
VAR did review and decided it was a red worthy.
legend has it Micky Van De Ven is still running through the United defence
Should have been a yellow for Bruno. VAR missed that one. I'm happy with the outcome either way though
Great vid
Played into our hands as they wanted to play their game, rather than countering Spurs. Issue is, their game was non-existent and that allowed ours to not only work but excel. Red card (wrongly) put it to bed for us but no Spurs is ever confident until we’re 3-0 up
Spot on with the sending off, I said the same, there wasn’t any forcefulness in the tackle, it’s high, but it’s with his heel, yellow all day.
Spurs have been excellent all season. There has been a false narrative about ange being under pressure.
Seven Hag has found the only formation and tactics to make Ugarte look like he can't defend, bravo
Well dissected Jimmy
IMHO: Ten Hag tries to coach too much and changes so much each game it unsettles his players. Hence a cup he can get the players to fully study and concentrate and play well but when he tries to implement something different against a team like Tottenham on a regular game they aren't sharp with the new instructions. He needs to concentrate on what Man U are supposed to play like, not how to beat the other team. Build consistency. Van de Ven goes on a run and Johnson instantly starts sprinting to the spot because he knows whats coming next. That takes time to build that trust and sharpness required to win the Prem.
VAR did check it, just didn't overturn it
Any chance we could get video instead of stills James?
Pep throwing the FA cup final was a masterstroke. The very definition of 4D chess.
as a Spurs fan IMO it's not red
it is ironic that VAR was made to check in this situation but the referee doesn't even try it
that run by van de ven 👏
It’s because we’re shite mate (as a United fan)
Van der Ven is rapid, I rate him so much.
How many games left for Erik?
Hopefully no more
being one man down and choosing to have player out side the box and two players guarding for a short corner is insane
