KK There are 200+ Rock/Metals in Japan with about half all female. Japan is the #2 music market in the world and reportedly they have more record stores then the US!! 2 bands who have toured the US are: Band Maid - "Domination" and "Freedom" are good starters. They had a 14 city tour, sold out, Oct. 2022 & they will be back this year. More - Nemophila - "Seize the Fate" and "Dissension" to start. They just finish their US tour and played the Whiskey a Go Go last summer. Lovebites - "Holy War" live and "Stand and Deliver" Unlucky Morpheus - "Black Pentagram" NOTE - Did you notice that Saki and Hazuki were playing 7-string guitars??
There's a treasure chest in Japan and it's overflowing with jewels - all-female and female-led Metal and Rock treasures like Nemophila, Band-Maid, Babymetal and Lovebites (you are going to love their Metal!) to name just 4. They're all making the best Rock and Metal music of the 21st century.
Great reaction and welcome to the kick ass world of Nemophila. They are just under 4 years old now as a band. They have 2 albums out now last one was released this past December. All the members were in previous bands too so they have experience and are all in their mid 20s to early 30s. They are all amazing musicians and Mayu the lead singer has an amazing voice. She has great banshee scream along with some beautiful cleans. She has a natural rasp which is another reason her scream is somewhat unique too. Im sure she knows how to rest and take care of that voice too. I got a chance to see them live in Texas last month and they just kicked ass. Very loud face melting metal / rock show. Yes they should be bigger and more well known. They of course have a much bigger following in Japan but are getting more and more well known around the world. All their music be it heavy or mellow is just great. They really only have about 3 songs that I would say are mellow. The rest is heavy metal. Hard rock with a little pop mixed in sometimes. Some more song suggestions from them I say would "REVIVE", "DISSENSION", "RISE", "RAITEI" also a good live one is "OIRAN" Official live. They also do quite a few covers in there spare time from Iron Maiden, Kiss, AC/DC many other Japanese bands too. These ladies are always cranking out great music.
Greetings from Germany, and thank you for helping with this video to make the name of this band go around the world and get the exposure it indeed deserves. 🙏🏻 The talent that exists over there in Japan is incredible! Band-Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites, Trident, Hanabie, Asterism, Gacharic Spin.... just to name a few. It's insane how closed-minded most people out there are and thus miss out on so much awesome music. _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' 🎶🕊
The drummer (Tamu) is one of the top Japanese session drummers... metal, jazz, fusion, rock, soundtrack... anything... she sight reads, absolute monster drummer.... but as a member of this group Nemophila, she gets to be creative and be in a great band... something very different for her. She's been through a lot with the band already, including starting a family with her husband as did Mayu the vocalist all during this time, and the emotional connection between these band members is very clear. Both guitarists are PHENOMENAL and both are legends in the industry - Saki is more famous due to her being in Mary's Blood (she's the one with graffiti on her amp and her guitars say "Killer" on the headstock), but it was the other guitarist Hazuki (pretty blue guitar with amazing inlays on the neck) who was playing both hands over the neck, and of course the bassist Haraguchi-san is just a phenom who pretty much became famous first as a member of Nemophila - and she deserves her role as she has proven to be an amazing bassist, and is such an incredibly cool person too. And yes, the singer, Mayu.... so the band formed because Mayu was unhappy in her role in a band she was in, and wanted to record something that took advantage of her very unique vocal skills and talents in both scream and hard rock singing. She has done both for years and knows exactly what she is doing, and switches throughout many songs live and in studio without any strain or difficulty apparent. For the recording project she got a top session player, who knew another super amazing music legend, who knew another one, and then they recruited Mayu's old friend on bass, and recorded 2 or 3 songs (or something like that). That was supposed to be the end, but they were SO good together, and all loved the music they were doing at least as much as, if not more than, what they were doing elsewhere... so Nemophila became the supergroup that just never quit. Was supposed to be a one time thing, but 4 years and 2 albums later and they are showing no signs of slowing down, and tour all over now and regularly release new cover songs just for fun.
If you're going down the rabbit hole that is Japanese all-girl rock/metal bands, then you absolutely need to check out Lovebites. They are one of the most muscially talented metal bands on the planet. In fact, the only metal band that I am aware of that has as much collective musical talent as Lovebites is Dream Theater. Nemophila have a modern Nu-Metal sound, and sing mostly in Japanese. Lovebites sing in English and have a classic 80s metal sound inspired by NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. In addition, there are clear influences by bands like early Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Slayer and Anthrax. And they do it all in white dresses and high heel shoes.
Nemophila and HANABIE are my 2 favourite Japanese bands and then there is Lovebites as well. All amazing bands. There are many more from Japan as well. Nemophila and HANABIE don’t have a bad song. We love Sweets is a good HANABIE first up song.
Nemophila (you got it right) were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of: ex-Mary's Blood guitarist Saki ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X) ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and ex-Soramimi drummer Murata Tamu This is one of the bands to watch, no question. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. They almost seem to be enjoying a private joke, that goes "Hi, we're a bunch of cute, fun girls and we are going to rip your face off, and you are going to like it.” Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized by Mayu with some help from Saki, largely to keep busy in the early days of the pandemic. They started by posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” ruclips.net/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/видео.html The viral reaction seems to have convinced them they were onto something potentially big, so they’ve been putting a lot more work into it, including some successful live-streams and an appearance at the annual Japanese female rock festival NAONのYAON. They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers. Drummer Murata Tamu took time off to give birth to her son, and on her return, the rest of the bandmembers gave her a welcome back that resulted in an extremely moving moment captured on live stream: “Life” ruclips.net/video/HFnEYhbEAqg/видео.html After Oiran, others to check include "Dissension", which will fry whatever is left of your circuits: ruclips.net/video/26aMuahxz8c/видео.html and “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: ruclips.net/video/lh-dVLKP314/видео.html More recent drops that showcase their intensity and versatility: “Style” ruclips.net/video/Aph5GON6rPc/видео.html (written by their bassist, Haraguchi-san) “Seize the Fate” ruclips.net/video/4tpgLyckVYg/видео.html “Rise” ruclips.net/video/rD3VMAm-9iA/видео.html Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. She has already written several songs for the group. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a great metal vocalist. They just toured the U.S. (their second go at performing here): I saw them live and they blew the roof off the place.
