- For those of you who like playing games solo (or have no friends), this is a solo mode in which you need to defeat all the super-villains before time runs out. Whereas the original solo variant is about getting a high score, this variant is about survival and implements different strategies in regards to purchasing, villain attacks, and timing.
Thanks for the video. Impressed you dont have OCD on which direction the cards are facing towards or away from you.
Ryan Fiereck funny enough, I used to have OCD
I don't have ocdbut would have driven me nuts
I'm like triggered by how the cards are, upside down and everything lol I can't ....
I got interested in a solitaire variant after trying the Crisis 1 expansion's solo mode. Crisis 1 has some very annoying event cards that are difficult to resolve (one says you must reveal a cost 2 card from the top of you deck at the beginning of your turn, AFTER you've drawn your hand, so it's totally random) and on top of that, you can't resolve a crisis if there are villains in the lineup. You also add one card to the lineup every turn no matter what, so you get stuck with a lineup of one card if you make multiple purchases. Crisis's biggest problem is that it takes too long to play and you have to limit your deck size or it's impossible to lose when using expansions.
I tried playing solo without using crisis cards, but using crisis-inspired rules (all villains are destroyed when bought/gained, one card added to lineup every turn, lineup villains do a first-appearance attack) and a 50 card deck but it wasn't fun. This is a lot simpler to set up and I really like the weakness timer idea.
I really like the looks of this variant, and would like to try it out. I have a few questions, though, for the OP, or anyone who has tried it:
1) How many Super Villains should I use? In the videos, I think I saw at least 10 appear?
2) How many kick cards should be in the kick card stack?
3) In the main deck that replenishes the 5 card row, how many total cards should there be? And, are there any guidelines as to the balance of heroes, villains, supports, and locations?
Things I like about the variant: It's easy to learn; I like the timing deck - I liken that to having a certain amount of time to stop the villains before they commit a major crime - like taking over Gotham City or Metropolis; performing a huge diamond heist (for Mr. Freeze :-) ), etc. I like skipping a time card once a Super Villain is "defeated". Picture the remaining super villains spending that turn meeting, and figuring out how to reach their objective without that villain. The game time for this variant seems just right.
1. 7 is about right, add villains from the Justice Society Of America, they have a higher cost. 2. 16 3. I cut the deck in half to about 60 cards, this now works as a second timer; if you exhaust the main deck you also lose the game.
Nice video overall. A few small errors, mainly forgetting things but to be honest it's a lot of rules so who wouldn't. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Yea I have poor memory for my own rules :)
Cool. I hope this will work with the Teen Titans Go! Deck Building Game :)
Update- it totally works with the Teen Titans DBG and using the TTG Hero Cards with the Sidekick mechanic offered in that version. Great fun! Thanks :)
How are attacks against you resolved? A weakness (from the “timer” pile) gets placed into your discard pile? Hard to follow all the details of this.
For a standard 1 player round, how many Super Villians do you usually fight against?
I would argue that in solo mode things don't attack you the turn they pop up (because otherwise you end up with things like losing timer for something popping up that you can't deal with) - but other than that I rather like these rules for solo play
Cool mate. Thank you
+Peter Scholtz :)
i still haven't learned the original two player game so its soooo hard for me to follow this!
Hey :) sorry, i'm late but i just discovered this game xD I'm a big DC fan and i'd like to buy it but it has A LOT of expansion packs. Are they all compatible or are there different editions of the game?
Emanuele Vecchiolini I only made this variant with the original game. If you do buy expansion packs, you can try them out and let me know if it works :)
mate do you play all the supervillains or just 8? like in the usual game
What about Scarecrow's effect when you play him? Can you turn back a weakness timer card? What about other villain cards you play with an attack?
Not for this mode, or it would be quite an overpowered card
does rhaz-al-ghul go on the bottom as one of his special powers?
Yup!
Was this ever documented on BGG?
I never found this written up. But was tempted to write it up based off of the game play. And credit the yt poster. Cause this is a nice simple solo version
how many kid flashes do u have
What sleeves do you use in this?
I can't remember, my friend gave it to me :(
Ultra pro standard

No friends... wow. You would've ever thought.
Why not use Crisis solo rules (i hear crisis #3 is good)
You treat your cards really bad.
You should do a marvel one even though you probably dont make videos anymore
