If your Crisis games are taking too long, the designer has said on BGG to make the main deck 100 cards, and then use 3 fewer Crisis cards and Super-Villains. Then it will be a bunch shorter.
Correction about Crisis Mode Aquaman. His text reads "Whenever you would buy or gain a card with a cost of 5 or less...", which is why the rules book for the expansion states: "You can add weaknesses you gain to another player's pile, but you should ask them first." Key word: "Should". Now, in co-op mode, sure you can pass them off to whoever has Bizzaro. But in competitive mode? Yeah. There's not any rules preventing you from buying Bizarro and piling the Weakness cards onto some poor sap.
There's a lot of luck involved too, I've had games that were fun and easy because we got the right cards, villains and crises didn't mess us up too badly . Then there were those where we get screwed because too many villains or the crisis robbed me of the right cards to use.
I agree with your assessment. I played a two player game last night with a friend who has been playing with me for a while, and after 4 hours of gameplay we had gone through only 2/3 of the Super villains! We called it quit. I will try to come up with a variant that could speed up the game and give it an even more co-op feel for my next game session. Disappointing, but it might be workable with some house rules.
Yeah, this might be one of the few games I would consider doing a serious house-rule overhaul on. There's just so many cool ideas in this box, and it's a shame they're being wasted on a game mode so overly long and boring.
+odemus What me and my friends tried was that we each got a crisis hero AND a regular non-crisis hero. It was still pretty tough but it made things go a little bit faster.
+octor We did the same thing, our game lasted longer than most, since we drank and weren't trying to rush. It was incredibly difficult, but a lot of fun.
It really sounds like you were upset about the game being too hard. Which the main point of the expansion was to make it harder, since otherwise it was fairly easy.
The point is not that it is hard. the thing is that it is BORING AS FUCK!!! Turn after turn after turn because you cannot meet the requirements to get past the Crisis not due to fact that it is hard or that you are a bad player, it is simply because it cannot be done. Period!
Would it be possible to just play using this expansion and not include cards from any other version of the game? Perhaps that would make playing just Crisis mode much more bearable.
We played it this weekend with 3 players and lost horribly. We had like 20 cards in the line up and only defeated 3 crisis and 3 Unstoppable Villains. I love coop games and don't mind if they are hard but not that hard :P. What I saw that if you had a way to remove those initial starting cards, if you wanted to, the game might run smoother. What I was thinking was a variant where each time your are going to shuffle your deck you may cull one card from it, that way you can get rid of those cards that are clogging your deck. Will try this solo and let you know if this or any other variant that i can think of would make this game more fun :)
Can you (or someone) explain the Magic card. It plays the pronoun game so we're not entirely sure how to play the card correctly, cus in one way it seems legit but then there's the small print that says "effect remains" and then it becomes broken.
"Choose a card you played this turn. Play it again this turn, then destroy it. (It's effect remains" So basically one of the cards you play for the turn can be played again but then it's destroyed. For example you can play a punch then have magic copy the punch again and then it's destroyed at the end of the turn.
And if people thought from The Big Bang Theory that "Aquaman sucked" Well.... I have news for you I like Zatanna only for the art!! Man her effect Sucks Big frecking time!! :-/

this makes crisis mode great in my opinion. too bad it was printed in the rule book.

Also, in Crisis, no VP's.
Great overview. Debating whether to pick this one up. We at The Discriminating Gamer will probably wait and get the DC Villains game first.
i need to paly this love co-op mode type games and love the art on the crisis cards.

Seriously? My girlfriend and I played two-player yesterday and beat the game in around an hour. Found it to be bags of fun.

I always play with 8 villains and 8 crisis and play with around 100 cards. To make sure the game is an hour to an hour and a half.
This is the funniest Batman satire I've ever seen

You do know by now that Villains do not prevent you from taking the Supervillains, only Crises?

There's really not enough cards for that, unfortunately.
