i just bought the game two days ago. Tonight will be the first run through. After watching your video i feel much better haha. at first my wife and i thought this type of a game might be a bit over our heads to play. Your video made it very easy to understand and follow, plus my wife said it was cool to see your wife playing as well. It's a different felling being on the other side of the RUclips camera haha. This rotating table has been one of the greatest house modifications to the game itself. I started using one with a friend and we haven't looked back. However, we place line up cards, main-deck, kicks, and super-villains on ours, but not the weaknesses. Weaknesses are placed opposite of the turn table, which is on a players 3 or 9 o'clock. Thanks!!

I recently bought the DC Deck Building Game and there was a lack of decent play-through videos out there...but watching you guys play a full game helped my overall understanding of the game and clarified some rules that were not as clear in the included instructions. I really like the use of the lazy susan to make the central cards readable to both players. Great idea. I like the playthroughs.Strategy tips, house rules, and variants would also be appealing.
It means that you don't get to shuffle your discard pile to re-make your deck when you don't have any cards in your draw deck. Case in point: If you drew the last card of your deck and it happened to be your maximum hand size too, you don't get to just shuffle your discard. If you have to draw a card for any reason at all, though, you do shuffle your discard pile to create your new deck if you don't have a card to draw. It works the same in all deckbuilding games for the most part.
Just curious, the flash ability you said was only effective the first time for each card that asks to draw a card, so does that mean you can only use the ability once for each card throughout the game? or in the hand at that time

Loved this video. Convinced me to buy the game. I've played it a ton with my wife and she even loves it and when it comes to games she is pretty critical. I'm curious though when you played the X-Ray vision doesn't the card that is being used stay in play? So that when you copied the X-Ray with Clayface the NEXT card on top of your foes deck would be revealed? We've ran into this a few times and we've played it differently than you did.
I don't believe it stays in play as the card says to reveal cards, choose one, play it, then return it, so that should all happen, then I could play Clayface, and it would repeat, and it would be the same cards. The last words on X-Ray Vision where it says, "... then return it to the top of it's owner's deck." is what makes me think this is correct. Hope that helps.
I have a question about when you defended against Sinestro. Since flipping the super-villain is part of the "End of Turn" phase, wouldn't it still be your turn, and hence able to use Flash's power if you hadn't already? In this case it doesn't matter since you already used The Flash's power, but there are obviously cases where you wouldn't have already.
I love this game. Boyfriend bought it for me for Christmas (two days ago) because I love DC so much and we have already played it some. . . six or seven times? Crazy about it.

I forgot which comic specifically but it was an occasion when superman was chasing flash for some reason (both running at super speed), and flash said he needs to be alone and he'll never be able to catch him. Superman said they've raced before and they were always neck and neck. Flash replied, "those were for charity, clark" Then he took off going even faster and left Superman completely in his dust.
Awesome to hear William! I agree with you, they are very different experiences. I still personally prefer Legendary to this, but we enjoy DC when it hits the table. I would love to get commissions, but that would be a weird area to be in, so as long as they know I'm influencing the market, I'm happy. I know this video is almost a year old. But did anyone else noticed that 4 super-villains were missing. Parallax, Deathstroke, Black Manta, and Darkseid
We cut down the number of Villains to make for a shorter game. We actually prefer playing with all the Villains, and in manner when they are shuffled into the center deck! We use their First Attack when they enter the center row, and it makes for a much longer and intense game :) We can even adjust that structure by saying "first to defeat X villains ends the game" and then count points, making it adjustable and tense :)
Is shuffle/ruffling the cards okay for them? Wouldn't it make it bend pretty badly? The Flash card seems to be a little bent. Are the cards rather durable?
at the end she had 12 points so she could've gained the last super villein as well as the wonder women equipment that was worth 2 so you actually only won by 1 point lol good game tho .. me and my friends play this and part 2 at least twice a week...
Are equipment or super power cards played first? Or does it not matter when you play them to trigger an effect? So if you play an equipment card after showing Hi Tech Hero, would you get 3 power or just 1 power?
Just wanted to point out when you play The Penguin as The Flash, you first go through his effect, the draw two and discard two, before you get to draw that extra card. It's a little nit-picky, but it can really change things significantly for that turn. Also, is this how you normally play the game? If it is, I'd understand why you'd call it a hit instead of a crit (which I think it is). My playstyle is to build up my deck a good amount before even considering defeating a super-villain
Amaraxis hit the point exactly. You have to draw 5, so if you have less than 5, you draw what you have, shuffle your remaining cards and then draw up to max of 5.
You also cannot defend against the Braniac ability when it's being played from someone's hand because that's an effect and not an Attack. Attack's will be specifically marked as "Attack:"
Also, with the Penguin and Flash, you draw your 2 cards first, then discard your two cards, and then you draw your card from Flash. The reason is that you have to complete all the text on the card from the Penguin before you do the ability of The Flash.
Yes, we played it at Gen Con this year. I posted a pic on our Facebook page a while back, but essentially she says, "Once during each of your turns, if there are no super powers in the Line-Up, draw a card." Hope that helps.
hi guys. i just watch the video. so i have some tips to made. first of all when she bought her first villian she must put it on the top. couse the groundi says that. secound when u played the pinguin. rules say you must resolve the card ability. so you should draw two cards discard two cards. and them use the flash ability and draw and extra card.
just a heads up, when captain cold was first appeared, she should of still drew the extra card from buying Brainiac, the super villian isnt revealed till AFTER the new hand is drawn so Wonder Womans effect would of still been active during her draw step, just sayin

I've heard so many negative things about this game and how it stacks up to Legendary Marvel, but it's pretty clear they are very different kinds of Deck Builders... I think this video convinced me to buy this one... You need to start getting commission from these game companies for sales! Great Video!
Maybe it's just the group I play with. We tend not to go for the super villains until someone takes the plunge and the dominoes start to fall. I think it makes the game a little longer, but only by 10 or so minutes, but it gives you more opportunity to play those really cool combos, and have the game a little more interactive as there'd be more chances of playing villains with an attack. We also always play with all 12 super-villains, but that's a personal preference.
I'm not sure why you are saying it shuts off at 31 minutes, it's a 39 minute video and when I view it online it goes through the 31:00 mark ok... anyone else having this issue?
That actually makes perfect sense, as he should finish his triggered ability and then the Flash's ability kicks in after, thanks! Yes, this is how we normally play the game, but I don't see how waiting to build up a lot more power, than what's needed to beat a Super Villain, would change my opinion. I'd also think that playstyle would let opponent's jump on them early and gain an advantage... happy to hear more though and try things.

I think yes, presuming you hadn't used it already. Flipping new supervillains/restocking the line up is the last action on your turn, and Flash's ability says "on your turn"
Super Villain attacks DO NOT happen on anyones turn. It very clearly states this at thr top of page 8 in the rule book. You dont flip the Super Villain card over until your turn is over and you replace your hand. The First Appearance attack happens prior to the next player's turn and hits everyone that cannot defend it.
Awesome! Yeah, I've determined there are some heroes who, if they get their card, are nigh unstoppable. Superman and his, along with several super powers is nuts. My 7 yr old pulled 76 power in one hand with him, his card, and parallax! Aquaman is actually slowly becoming my favorite, he's extremely useful! Glad you are enjoying it!
You guys later caught the other mistakes during your play but card effects resolve immediately so w hen you played Penguin his effect resolves right away before The Flash's effect is applied so you were supposed to draw 2 cards, discard 2 cards, then draw an additional card due to The Flash. My friends and I have been playing this game for months, it is SO much fun. I love using Aquaman and Batman and I also have the promotional Martian Manhunter superhero card which is very powerful.
At the 20:10 mark, she gets Solomon Grundy, and neglects to use his one-time ability : "When you buy or gain him, put him on top of your deck" -- that is, when you first acquire him, you get to use him immediately next turn. She just put him into her discard pile. Essentially, since she's Wonder Woman, she w/should have gotten what she got, PLUS Grundy (draw extra card for villain obtained)
@11:06: I always assumed that when a card says 'draw a card' you would draw it from the main deck and not your own deck. I've been doing it all wrong. Yikes :-O. Thank you very much for this - the video is so super helpful. It's nice to see the game being played the correct way. Now I know what I'm doing :-)
There are some villains who are just in the main deck and then some are super villains who are in the super villain stack. Just a developer choice I guess.
I use chrome, but I had those problems with youtube too. Turns out it was the flash player plugin that was running two versions at the same time. Perhaps you could check the plugins for firefox and see if it has a similiar problem?
What is an average end game score for this game? I just started getting into deck builders about a year ago and I have 5 different marvel legendary games and Harry Potter: Battle for Hogwarts and those are cut and die, win or lose. I have the base set for DCDB and Forever Evil and I just play 2 hands and see who wins at the end but I have 0 idea if I have a high score or not.
I want to say like "70ish", but I honestly don't remember off the of my head. BoardGamegeek.com may have better stats to tell you what the avg scores are.
After watching this and the video review, I think I'm going to pick this game up. I'll definitely play SotM and Legendary more, but this looks fun too. The review gave me the impression that the villains' attacks against fellow players were worse than they seemed in this play-through. The idea of, say, the Flash having access to the Batcave also doesn't seem like as big a deal, since you're essentially playing as the Justice League, who would naturally pool their resources. I do too! I'm really excited to get my LOTR Deck Builder because of that. The only gripe is the card art isn't anywhere close to being as awesome as DC. Also I think I would prefer the always-on ability of the Super Heroes over the unique card that LOTR does.
We just played the second set, due out soon, while we were at Gen Con. It's much more thematic and has combos based on themes, which was nice. This set is still fun though, so I wouldn't suggest waiting at all :)
As with anything, yes, but we sleeve ours normally with Dragon Shields. I take them off for filming though as they shine off the lights. Overall, good quality cards, but I'd always sleeve a DBG :)
Hey, I just watched the lord of the rings deck building gameplay video you have up and I hope that if/when they do an expansion for DC deck building, that maybe they'll include something like the ambush that LOTR had. Or perhaps a sort of reverse gift, where instead of something good happening, when it hits the row, something bad happens and it destroys itself. Could name the card type Crisis.
I wish I could say that was under my control, but that's the RUclips gods I think in terms of how they enter them in or not. Most of our videos have them at the beginning, but I too dislike them in the middle :)
So we got through about five games when we played. First few we were just learning. I was able to play a few of the heroes since we randomized them. Flash is nice, but only if you're lucky to get the draw cards before the others. Personally I found Cyborg to be very good since he's so versatile. You can almost go for anything and it works great with him. So far my favorite set that won me a few games were Suicide Squad. You get five of them, and you get 25VP; they add up real nice!
Bizarro was also amazing! Since when one playing gets a lot of cards like Poison Ivy or Scarecrow early, the weakness really starts to hurt, but if you're lucky and get Bizarro then they give you VP! Still dead cards in the hand, but at least they don't hurt you in the end. Nth Metal works great with Aquaman too! Aquaman is definitely up there in the good heroes. The Man of Steel card(Not superman) is real good too if you've got a bunch of powers. One turn got me over 25 Power easily!
This happens at very random times and very infrequently to me. Most of the time if I just refresh the video or close the browser and reload it, the entire video will play. Have no idea what is causing it, but I do use FireFox.
Great video, but you did play Ras-Al Gul wrong. You don't put him to the bottom of your deck right away. When you buy a card it goes to your discard. It's not until you play the card that the ability to put him at the bottom of the deck goes into effect.

Brainiac's ability just happens. It is not an attack, and thus cannot be defended.

Yeah, there should be an annotation in the video on that, did it not pop up?

turn goes, play cards from you hand, buy cards from the line up or super villian deck, discard all played and bought cards, draw new hand, refill line up, then reveal super villan if one is not present, so wonder womans effect of drawing and extra card takes place before the reveal
I've heard so many negative things about this game and how it stacks up to Legendary Marvel, but it's pretty clear they are very different kinds of Deck Builders... I think this video convinced me to buy this one... You need to start getting commission from these game companies for sales! Great Video!
Maybe it's just the group I play with. We tend not to go for the super villains until someone takes the plunge and the dominoes start to fall. I think it makes the game a little longer, but only by 10 or so minutes, but it gives you more opportunity to play those really cool combos, and have the game a little more interactive as there'd be more chances of playing villains with an attack. We also always play with all 12 super-villains, but that's a personal preference.
I'm not sure why you are saying it shuts off at 31 minutes, it's a 39 minute video and when I view it online it goes through the 31:00 mark ok... anyone else having this issue?
That actually makes perfect sense, as he should finish his triggered ability and then the Flash's ability kicks in after, thanks! Yes, this is how we normally play the game, but I don't see how waiting to build up a lot more power, than what's needed to beat a Super Villain, would change my opinion. I'd also think that playstyle would let opponent's jump on them early and gain an advantage... happy to hear more though and try things.

I think yes, presuming you hadn't used it already. Flipping new supervillains/restocking the line up is the last action on your turn, and Flash's ability says "on your turn"
Super Villain attacks DO NOT happen on anyones turn. It very clearly states this at thr top of page 8 in the rule book. You dont flip the Super Villain card over until your turn is over and you replace your hand. The First Appearance attack happens prior to the next player's turn and hits everyone that cannot defend it.
Awesome! Yeah, I've determined there are some heroes who, if they get their card, are nigh unstoppable. Superman and his, along with several super powers is nuts. My 7 yr old pulled 76 power in one hand with him, his card, and parallax! Aquaman is actually slowly becoming my favorite, he's extremely useful! Glad you are enjoying it!

When i draw a card like mera. Can i not play her and wait for my discard pile to empty before playing her?
You guys later caught the other mistakes during your play but card effects resolve immediately so w hen you played Penguin his effect resolves right away before The Flash's effect is applied so you were supposed to draw 2 cards, discard 2 cards, then draw an additional card due to The Flash.
My friends and I have been playing this game for months, it is SO much fun. I love using Aquaman and Batman and I also have the promotional Martian Manhunter superhero card which is very powerful.
At the 20:10 mark, she gets Solomon Grundy, and neglects to use his one-time ability : "When you buy or gain him, put him on top of your deck" -- that is, when you first acquire him, you get to use him immediately next turn. She just put him into her discard pile.
Essentially, since she's Wonder Woman, she w/should have gotten what she got, PLUS Grundy (draw extra card for villain obtained)
I hope so too, I think it could really make a fun impact to have impossible mode super villains too :)
@11:06: I always assumed that when a card says 'draw a card' you would draw it from the main deck and not your own deck. I've been doing it all wrong. Yikes :-O.

I don't have the game yet. Why was Doomsday not supposed to be in the villain deck?
There are some villains who are just in the main deck and then some are super villains who are in the super villain stack. Just a developer choice I guess.

I use chrome, but I had those problems with youtube too. Turns out it was the flash player plugin that was running two versions at the same time.
Perhaps you could check the plugins for firefox and see if it has a similiar problem?
Bill's right on this one, I checked the rulebook and the "first appearances" happen "in between" turns so to speak so it's not your turn.

What is an average end game score for this game?
I just started getting into deck builders about a year ago and I have 5 different marvel legendary games and Harry Potter: Battle for Hogwarts and those are cut and die, win or lose.
I have the base set for DCDB and Forever Evil and I just play 2 hands and see who wins at the end but I have 0 idea if I have a high score or not.
I want to say like "70ish", but I honestly don't remember off the of my head. BoardGamegeek.com may have better stats to tell you what the avg scores are.
I'm confused where we played him wrong. I agree with your statement, but looking at 14:22 when he was acquired, he was put in my discard pile...
Just good tutorial. Lol this was so complete, i did not even go through the rule book. Ahaha that never happens.

After watching this and the video review, I think I'm going to pick this game up. I'll definitely play SotM and Legendary more, but this looks fun too. The review gave me the impression that the villains' attacks against fellow players were worse than they seemed in this play-through. The idea of, say, the Flash having access to the Batcave also doesn't seem like as big a deal, since you're essentially playing as the Justice League, who would naturally pool their resources. I do too! I'm really excited to get my LOTR Deck Builder because of that. The only gripe is the card art isn't anywhere close to being as awesome as DC. Also I think I would prefer the always-on ability of the Super Heroes over the unique card that LOTR does.
We just played the second set, due out soon, while we were at Gen Con. It's much more thematic and has combos based on themes, which was nice. This set is still fun though, so I wouldn't suggest waiting at all :)
As with anything, yes, but we sleeve ours normally with Dragon Shields. I take them off for filming though as they shine off the lights. Overall, good quality cards, but I'd always sleeve a DBG :)
Hey, I just watched the lord of the rings deck building gameplay video you have up and I hope that if/when they do an expansion for DC deck building, that maybe they'll include something like the ambush that LOTR had. Or perhaps a sort of reverse gift, where instead of something good happening, when it hits the row, something bad happens and it destroys itself. Could name the card type Crisis.

I wish I could say that was under my control, but that's the RUclips gods I think in terms of how they enter them in or not. Most of our videos have them at the beginning, but I too dislike them in the middle :)

Hi, Can you do the same for the Street Fighter Deck-Building Game please
So we got through about five games when we played. First few we were just learning. I was able to play a few of the heroes since we randomized them. Flash is nice, but only if you're lucky to get the draw cards before the others. Personally I found Cyborg to be very good since he's so versatile. You can almost go for anything and it works great with him. So far my favorite set that won me a few games were Suicide Squad. You get five of them, and you get 25VP; they add up real nice!
That looks like a lot of fun. I'll have to look into getting my local gaming store into ordering it.

Bizarro was also amazing! Since when one playing gets a lot of cards like Poison Ivy or Scarecrow early, the weakness really starts to hurt, but if you're lucky and get Bizarro then they give you VP! Still dead cards in the hand, but at least they don't hurt you in the end. Nth Metal works great with Aquaman too! Aquaman is definitely up there in the good heroes. The Man of Steel card(Not superman) is real good too if you've got a bunch of powers. One turn got me over 25 Power easily!

Wonder woman can be soo good. Especially if you have a cheetah or a riddler to gain cards and then draw 2-3 the next turn.
This happens at very random times and very infrequently to me. Most of the time if I just refresh the video or close the browser and reload it, the entire video will play. Have no idea what is causing it, but I do use FireFox.
Great video, but you did play Ras-Al Gul wrong. You don't put him to the bottom of your deck right away. When you buy a card it goes to your discard. It's not until you play the card that the ability to put him at the bottom of the deck goes into effect.
