Yup. You guys definitely played the 2 player version wrong. Your only supposed to play two highlights and maybe a tournament. That is after you have committed to two out of the four. Anyhow. Played this 3 times over the weekend. What a great game for 4!
Wow, thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful! We have done several for Descent, Journeys in the Dark from Fantasy Flight as well and yes, we do plan on doing more! Feel free to let Fantasy Flight know this helped you make a decision, never a bad thing if they know who is helping the public decide! This game is a blast, I hope you are enjoying it! We're looking forward to the expansion as well!
Awesome walk through! I just got this game used from a gaming store for $15 and I won't lie, I was pretty overwhelmed. I feel like now I can run through a game with no problems! A+!
remark : the ball token does not affect the player's star power, so when a player has star power 3 and the ball, and the other manager wishes him to tackle, he tackles a star power 3 player and not a star power 5 player :-)
Thanks, glad you liked it! I'm working to have all our Critical Reviews coupled up with a Critical Play through as well. Just scheduling and planning involved now :)
Wow, that is an AWESOME price! Congrats! Glad you liked the video and that it helped! It's a blast of a game. The new expansion is coming out soon too, Sudden Death! Enjoy and thanks for watching and commenting!
Many thanks Tox, this was a really nice play-through. I learned some new things from watching you guys play. One question I have is: Aren't there suppose to be only two highlights for a 2 player game?
Great work folks. I have the game and one add on, planning on getting the next one too which allows for a 5th player team to get involved as well. Disappointed to not see any Lizardmen Team, but that is a very little grumble. This game is quite good. Once learned it flows quickly, allowing for two or 3 games of 4 players to be played in a night. The teams are all interesting and fun, the Star Players are always good to see when you pick up your hand and there is a load of random elements to never really be sure of a clear victory. Cheers!
Thanks I'm glad you liked it! Their icons are only used when they enter play, not each round. All, any, or none can be chosen to be used when coming into play, but cheating is mandatory so that one has to be taken. When you say "union" you mean two players with like OWA affilitation? They should only draw from their own Star Player Decks so be sure you have the CWC and OWA Star Players shuffled as their own decks.
Guard isn't applicable in highlight win/losses, only when someone is attempting a tackle on another of your players. The Guard essentially "blocks" the tackling player from tackling their target. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, glad you like it, this is a great game!
loved the vid, however, aren't the number of highlight card dictated by how many players are playing? so instead of 4 in the video, there should be only 2, right?
HI CH, great video, loved the review/play action example. One question though, when the Skaven Blitzer won his highlight, shouldn't the Dwarf team have been able to use "Guard" to turn it around on him... thanks
Just played this with two friends and had a blast. Was curious if the player skills (passing, cheating, etc.) could be used in each round they were out? Say for instance could a player with a tackle, cheat, and passing symbol down someone, take the ball from midfield, and collect their cheat token every turn they were out. Also, if two players are with the same union, what happens if they draw an opposing teams star player? We just put them on the bottom of the deck and drew again. Great video!
Hey guys, great video. Thank you for making it. I just wanted to know if you could reference the rules for the Payouts. I can't find anywhere that you don't get your Zone Payouts if your player is downed.
Great job explaining the game; it is nice to see how it flows and I definitely have a better idea of how it all works now (I bought the game months ago, but have yet to play).
That is right, it's been talked about in other comments here and on the BGG video page. We put more out to show more of the game, nothing more or less. Correct on the star players being their own decks shuffled, not mixed together.
They can, at times, but there are enough new cards for the original races to be as competitive. I think the "enchanted footballs" are the biggest addition and it covers the gaps.
Glad it is helpful. It's a really fun game. Technically, by the rule book, it says to actually not use any Spike Headlines and only use the bowl cards, but we like the headlines and the variety they bring. There are several variations in the rule book, all around how many headlines you put in the deck. I tend to see that is up to personal preference. In a game this crazy, why not have fun!? :)
Had some questions through email... I can't find in the rules that if you only have downed players on your side of the highlight you don't receive your zone payout. Is this correct? - No, my mistake there! When you added the ball's star power to the total for the player being tackled, did that Skaven have an ability that added the ball star power to his for tackling purposes? - No, was wrong there too, balls only count for total star power when resolving wins, not tackling Good catches!
I can't remember off the top of my head, but I don't think you are doing the highlights correctly. I think the instructions say 1 per player, so that would be 2 highlights per event. Am I wrong?
It's from a TV show called Firefly, here's the image: ianleino[DOT]com/Share/SerenitySakeCream2[DOT[jpg Just replace the [DOT]s with an actual dot to get the url, sorry, youtube is weird about posting links in comments.
You are correct; This has been discussed multiple times on other comments so I will add a annotation so this doesn't come up again. We did more highlights to just show more.
I am not too sure, as it's been some time, I "think" so, but there are rules online here: images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/blood-bowl/images/BBTM_RuleBook_English_web.pdf
Good video. One small correction though. I think you incorrectly added the +2 power from having the ball to a players Star Power. The rules state this on page 11. The +2 on the football is only used when resolving who won the Highlight. The incorrect use of 4 highlights you explained as well...in a 2 player game you start with 4 but once 2 have been played on you remove the other 2. Again though...good video.
There are some special game effects that allow you to do that, especially if you play undead, vampires or goblins I believe. You roll dice when they are downed and if the X is rolled, they stand up.
It was an incorrect play. I mentioned I didn't get my payout because my player was downed, but that's not the case. Downed and upright players count towards obtaining a payout.
I wonder where you get that you need to have a guy standing to get the highlight teamzone rewards. that is false. You can have a tackled player and still get it. :)
I'm not sure where we got that from either (other than our interpretations of the rules) but we always played it that way. If we're wrong, it's good to know!
Thanks, I love it! We got it form Napastyle[dot]com actually. It was originally designed for wine storage and we just took out the wine holders and added game space underneath. IT was about $1000 with the options we chose, but fun site.
You are playing it wrong. First of, you just need to participate, you don't need to have your Players Standing. Second, when you play 1v1, once you choose two Highlights, the other two Highlights are removed.

In a two-player game once you play on two highlight cards the other two are removed from the game.
Thank you guys. I am going to buy this game for the community centre I am working for. The teens will love it.
Really helpful video! I was a little confused after reading the rules of this game. Thank you for posting this! Now I can't wait to play this game!
Awesome walk through! I just got this game used from a gaming store for $15 and I won't lie, I was pretty overwhelmed. I feel like now I can run through a game with no problems! A+!
Excellent video! I got a real feel for how this game would go down in real time. I wish more reviews would go with this kind of delivery.
Great stuff, thanks ! Bought this game a while back but haven't played it yet - now happy I understand the gameplay enough to give it a go, cheers !
Thanks to your 4 and 1/2 year old review, I'll be ordering this game from Amazon. Thanks!

Glad you like it and hope you and your son enjoy the game as much as we do! Thanks for watching and enjoy!

Great stuff, really nice and helpful. I got much more out of it than from a regular review. Nice :]
Thanks, glad you liked it. We love Blood Bowl Team Manager, hope you do too if you get it.
Crits Happen are you going to do a review of the two expansions?
Many thanks Tox, this was a really nice play-through. I learned some new things from watching you guys play. One question I have is: Aren't there suppose to be only two highlights for a 2 player game?
Very cool, guys! I'm making a trip to the local game shop now to pick this up :)
Thanks Tekkor, you're right on the ball mishap. Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! Looking forward to the expansion on this one!
Best gameplay video, very descriptive and helpful! You guys made me buy this game. you should do more vids like this!
Great work folks.

Nice video and a nice game. This one will be on my short list!
Thanks! Yes, we did this just to show a bit more of the game and chatted about it a bit here below and on BGG.com.

This was discussed a bit in other comments and on Bgg.com but yes. We add more when we play, plus it helped show some interactions here.
Howmmany team and staff upgrades are you aloud to keep or are they like star players and you only keep one?
Hey Tox! Vanilla... Really..?! :) On a more serious note; what sleeves do you use for the cards?
Great job explaining the game; it is nice to see how it flows and I definitely have a better idea of how it all works now (I bought the game months ago, but have yet to play).

I read that the new races feel more powerful than the basic ones. What do you think about the subject?
Glad it helped! You should crack it out and get it on the table, it's a lot of fun!
Had some questions through email...

was fun to follow 😃
I added an annotation to note that as well, thanks for the catch
Around 4min20s the guy on the right looks like he is really enjoying the game...
You are correct; This has been discussed multiple times on other comments so I will add a annotation so this doesn't come up again. We did more highlights to just show more.
I have a question on the rules. If player 1 passes his turn, can player 2 play more cards?

Why don t you get zone payout @ 28.41 ? i dont see any rules that say that !
It is! As is the expansion for it as well!
Hey, sometimes you drink what's in the fridge :) We use the recommended Fantasy Flight sleeves straight from them. Love 'em.
Shouldn't there only be 2 highlights because there are only 2 players?
This looks like tremendous fun
You mean, for the OWA and the other (forgot the initials) deck? Okay, that's very nice. More options is usually good
This was talked about in some comments below... just did it to show people more of the highlights.
Not new base players, but more star players to draft from when you received payouts.
Oh, each of the old factions gets new players?
can a downed card be brought back to standing?
There are some special game effects that allow you to do that, especially if you play undead, vampires or goblins I believe. You roll dice when they are downed and if the X is rolled, they stand up.

nice firefly shirt in the intro part
Why have you set up as though you're playing a 4 player game?
Your T-shirt , what is it ? looked like a chinese duck / chicken ?
Thanks, I love it! We got it form Napastyle[dot]com actually. It was originally designed for wine storage and we just took out the wine holders and added game space underneath. IT was about $1000 with the options we chose, but fun site.

it would be cool if you could buy an actual board game based on this :P. (oh wait you cant bc specialist gw games r dead)
there are other places to get models that are similar, and the rules are free online, games workshop isnt everything
I read the blood bowl books and just had to see how awesome the game was
