    Nice guide. As a ol' Blood Bowl player (even the tabletop), I watched it to see if you missed something I would say to new players, but you seem to have covered it. Solid work.

    2:27 This is certainly a great piece of advice in general, to avoid the sidelines and to try boxing in opposing players into the sidelines. But one thing I would have mentioned here is that you can more safely move a player up the sidelines if they have the Side Step skill, since they would need to be completely surrounded on all 5 sides in order to get surfed and can often dodge away from opposing players trying to box them into the sidelines.

    Great guide, played around a bit with blood bowl 1 after it was on a steam sale, but am looking to really dive into blood bowl 2 from the start this time around.
    I completely understand your point about starting off with the more basic/average teams, having said that I think I want to try out a more agile team just for kicks (before probably being beaten to a pulp and going back to humans/orcs lol).

    I could never play blood bowl myself. I'm way too perfectionistic and/or munchkiny to cope well with anything happening to my players... but I loove watching cKnoor play it.

    I do not own BB2 (so I don't know if there is a decent documentation of the rules with the game or if they rely upon tutorials), but wouldn't it make sense to point people in the direction of the "Living Rulebook", which holds the rules for the tabletop version? The core concepts are the same and should help with understanding block and assists and fouls and such ... all with excellent examples for everything and it is freely available as a PDF.

    _
    This computer game's team composition options are smaller and fiddled with and it won't always give you the option to not use a skill, but the aim seems to be largely adhering to the book.

    I've seen so many games lost because a stall backfired... so stall with caution. Risk management doesn't mean be afraid. It means be sensible. Dangerous stalling because a coach is afraid to give their opponent 2 turns of drive is SILLY. Score and handle it. Or dont score and risk a draw/loss.

      I think if, after assists and blocker STR are all added together etc, if your result is lower than the opponent's, the dice will be red? Can anyone with more experience weigh in here?

    • @kidplayincod
      @kidplayincod 9 лет назад

      a bit late. Red dice occur if the piece attacking has less strength than the peice defending. the amount of die is the magnitude of the distance between the strength skills. if you try and attack an st6 peice with an st2 one ( without assist modifiers and skills) there will be 3 red die. obviously there is a lot of material on blocking and the mechanics thereof on forums and other sites

    Wait, the player values have changed? Looking at your Steam guide I notice my usual value 990 starting team would now be 1030 if the pieces retain their values. How does that work? Even using the old values, it still doesn't add up. Did the re-rolls get pricier or are certain players worth more or less? If that's the case, where can I find the updated rulebook with player values? I wanna know what races they've nerfed, since my bread and butter race seems to be nerfed, I can't get one of my pricier players and have to settle for a cheaper (and not as useful) one. I believe BB:CE uses Living Rulebook 5 (that's what it looks like to me), does BB2 use Living Rulebook 6 or something?

    • @psynque
      @psynque 9 лет назад

      BB2 uses Cyanide Rulebook Vol. 1 and apparently it's still a bit unclear how many changes they've pulled out of their rear.

  • @mickotom
    @mickotom 9 лет назад

    Great video and I really enjoy the Twitch stream. Would it be fair to say that new players should save their re-rolls and not use them up within two or three turns, especially as you (usually) don't have many to start with... I learnt that the hard way back on table top.

  • @gray007nl
    @gray007nl 9 лет назад +1

    I personally feel like orcs (and chaos/nurgle) are an exception to the only three players on the LOS rule, you have 4 players with strength 4 might as well put all four there rather than just three, your opponent is gonna have a tough time beating them down anyway and if you put them somewhere else in the field they'll be easier to avoid rather than when they're on the LOS.

    • @cKnoor
      @cKnoor  9 лет назад

      +Johan “Wolter” Hoekstra Most teams will just knock them down all the same. And you gain almost nothing by keeping them on the LoS either. If I am an agile team you at best add 1 or 2 2+ dodge rolls. And If I am bashy I'll just knock em down.

    • @gray007nl
      @gray007nl 9 лет назад

      cKnoor It just makes it easier for them to get into the action, especially vs agile teams, two steps back is half their MA

    • @MegaNocab
      @MegaNocab 9 лет назад

      Or do what the people I have faced lately and throw one die blocks and conceded.....

    • @Murkglow
      @Murkglow 9 лет назад

      +Johan “Wolter” Hoekstra
      It puts them right in the action sure but it forces them to face your opponent's LOS rather than you getting to move them to the best place for them to be on your own. Instead of hitting their good pieces or going after the ball they're stuck punching useless linemen or even worse the opponent gets to line up better bashy pieces (like their big guy) to potentially kill your better pieces instead of getting their big guy tied up in your linemen.
      If you've played older Blood Bowl games (BB1, Fumble, or Table Top), Tomb Kings have 4 Str 5 Tomb Guardians which would make you think to put them on the LOS, have a nearly unbeatable LOS, and get them right into the fight, right? The problem is that the Tomb Guardians are far too valuable to get tied up just punching linemen. Much better to set some throw away skeletons on the line and then be able to move your important Guardians into positions where they can actively impact the game. Same thing (to a lesser extent to be sure) for Orcs.
      Teams that refuse to Bash you back (like a well played Elf team for example) are minor exceptions to this rule but even there it's often better to be able to move your Black Orcs toward the ball carrier/put up a solid line of tackle zones rather than simply swing at a lineman or two and get cut off and marginalized by screens.
      Also remember that these are general guidelines for a new player just starting out. Most of the time this rule is correct. As such it's a good one to follow for most teams in most situations and thus for most new coaches.

    • @gray007nl
      @gray007nl 9 лет назад

      Murkglow Khemri isn't a very fair comparison to Orcs, since Black Orcs are far from the best piece on the team and if your opponent has a big guy it's guaranteed that a black orc will get stuck next to it because you need to at least put one of them on the LOS because you only have two linemen (usually).

    • @davidbeaumier4953
      @davidbeaumier4953 9 лет назад +3

      +veldinsparx there's the "Quick Snap" event in the kick off that allow the team on the offence to move all his piece one free square before the turn start. Even in the opposing half of the board. If your setup is only 1 square away from the line of scrimmage and this event is rolled, you'll have much more piece that can be attacked in the first turn after a kickoff.

    • @judsonwanderer
      @judsonwanderer 9 лет назад +2

      +Papo Papo Team Value. Pretty much the worth of your team divided by 1000, (so a player purchased fro $90,000 is worth 90 TV, an apothecary bought for $50,000 is 50). TV goes up as you buy new players, buy rerolls, and players level up. It goes down as players are killed.

    I'm adding an addendum to assume the worst, and it's for the tabletop cause it's more tame per the video game. assume the worst quietly. I played against the same lizardmen team, and his schtick is bitching and moaning about his MLP dice rolling bad. first time, I found it weird; second time, he did it less but proceed to call my dice rolls; third time, my fucking God shut the fuck up! I managed to quiet him down on the rolls that has a free reroll. even then still bitching and moaning on armor and injuries.
