I was crippled with arthritis in my 40s and had nearly all the cartilage removed from one knee. I've used Moringa powder to defeat my arthritis pain, and developed my own exercise routines. I started with "old people's" exercises, and worked up. The more I move, the less issues with my joints I have. Other things that worked for me: giving up alcohol completely, avoiding sugar and starchy stuff (pasta, potatoes, rice) and avoiding bread. I find that maintaining healthy weight, blood sugar and blood pressure has a good effect on arthtitis. Now in my 60s, NO arthritis pain.

Age 81, Fe, diagnosed bone on bone in both knees and recommended for knee replacement. Instead, I am using infrared, diet, supplements, exercise, AND I purchased a vibration plate which I have used for ten minutes per day at 30 HZ for one year. With combining all these things, I cannot point to one and say it is the “magic bullet.” I am showing definite improvements combing these approaches. I’m now walking without a limp. Most difficult is on awakening when I hold onto furniture as I first get up.

@@JonWolaver I did a lot of research prior to my purchase. The studies by Clinton Rubin show effectiveness when the plate is at 30 hz for ten minutes sessions used consistently for a year. I try to do 2 or 3 sessions daily allowing about 3 hours between sessions. My plate will do movements other than vibration and has a range up to 60 hz. I don’t go there. I try to duplicate the Rubin study because he worked with NASA and children with cancer. It has to be regular use. I had surgery on my hand to repair a nerve. Currently I put my hand on my knee while on the plate so I feel vibration in my hand. Rubin indicates that the vibration helps to generate new stem cells which characteristically slows down with aging. My premise is I’ll take all the stem cells I can get.

Where do I get the ' infra-red' gadget. Maybe these things don't work for all people, but I'm prepared to try any and everything, provided they don't do more damage. The problem with 30hz vibration is that it can't get into the joint at any useful intensity. Physiotherapists have a device ( I think it might be called an interferometer) this feeds in two high frequency signals, which can get into the joint, with frequencies which differ by about 30hz ( this is a skightly simplified explanation). In the joint, they combine to form the difference frequency ( plus the sum frequency-,in case any engineers are reading this), and so a 30 hz vibration gets right into the joint. It moves things around to reduce inflammation. It doesn't really heal anything, but makes the joint freer, and this is always a good thing.

Now a full panel is on order for twice the wattage and to cover more body areas. Price on that ran about $1200. Alex Fergus has a RUclips of infrared light penetrating bone mass. His website Red Light Insiders contains links to PubMed research. The studies on osteoporosis and knees are impressive. I will use those studies to guide my timing, frequency, and distance. My research indicates that wave length above 800 is more penetrating for bones. 600 is more related to skin issues and producing collagen.
Nine years ago at age 50, I was being scheduled for knee replacements in both knees due to bone on bone arthritis and severe pain. At the 11th hour I decided to try stem cell transplants which included injections of hyaluronic acid and platelet rich plasma (PRP). Within six months of the stem cell transplants, my knee pain was almost gone. I’ve had nine years of living so far without chronic knee pain. If nothing else, the stem cell transplants bought me time (nine years so far) before having knee replacements, which could mean only having knee replacements once in my future instead of having surgery for one set and then having another surgery or two in +/- 20 year’s time. i had bone on bone knee arthritis. had one knee replacement which i regret. the other knee was healed by taking daily turmeric with pepper for better absorption. that was 8 years ago. the knee i never touched is perfect. also i do a lot of walking everyday.
I was told over 20 years ago that I needed a knee replacement. But I endured the pain. Then in 2013 I completed a 34 day fast, of which 9 days were dry fasting. It essentially cured my arthritis - knees, shoulders and hips. The pain has now returned and I am due for another long fast.
Fasting can relieve the symptoms of (osteo)arthritis but it certainly does NOT cure (osteo)arthritis. If it 'cured' your condition then it would not have returned so very easily. The cure is coming slowly through stem cell and gene therapy based cartilage resurfacing and regeneration techniques. It will take about another 10-15 years before it's widely available.

I’ve been using red/near infrared light on my arthritis for more than a year. It helps to relieve the pain temporarily, it doesn’t heal my arthritis. My husband also developed arthritis in his knee after an injury - even though he used my red/NIR light device on the injury. The only treatment that has significantly helped my arthritis was autologous stem cell injections in my thumb joints. However it was very expensive, not covered by insurance, and very painful. I was told I’d need to repeat it after a few years, but it has lasted about 10 years so far. 😊

I agree. Did low carb in 2023, lost about 40lb, late in the year emergencies interfered with meals and allowed regular carb intake and in 2 weeks my aches and stiffness returned. 2 weeks back on low carb the pain is gone. I've returned to losing weight and feel fine. I'm 68 yo.

I had part of my meniscus renoved. After 3 years of pain a buddy told me to take collagen. Within a week i could feel the difference. I just bought some. I also drink bone broth. My mom makes good bone broth that looks like gelatin after being refrigerated. I think she just takes bones and adds water in a pressure cooker. It seems better than anything I can buy because they aren't gelatin but just liquid at room temperature. They never gel when refrigerated.

One of the things that I belt is missing from the glucosamine treatment is gelatin. I’ve used glucosamine/chondroiten supplements for years, but always used gelatin with it. The gelatin is made from the connective tissue that has been rendered down. On top of that, I use hyaluronic acid. The combinations of these things have helped my joints immensely. Eating right, staying away from sody pop and junk foods, and staying active helps a LOT. I’m sixty, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure that I can keep moving!!!

It is regular beef gelatin, I do a combination of putting it in my coffee with one scoop or, it’s a little difficult I make Jell-O cubes and use natural fruit flavoring to mix in with it you have to boil the water and then stir in the gelatin very quickly and then spray in the flavoring, kind of the natural water flavoring, you can make it as thick as you like so sometimes it’s chewy or or it’s a little bit thinner and easy to liquefy in your mouth.

I am not bone on bone (thankfully!), but I use Glucosamine chondroitin, calcium, vitamin C, and magnesium. I was sort of taking biotin but not sure if that was helping. I want to try Callogen, to see if it helps some. The supplements I take help me to continue working (in a warehouse, so lots of lifting, carrying, moving... Gym / exercise equipment!) and regular activities. But recently I have been having some soreness in what I believe is my left hip. 😠 Thank you.

Curious about Pentosan polysulphate. We used that intramuscular over 30 years ago in veterinary practice on dogs and horses... absolutely amazing results, old arthritic dogs would bounce back like puppies after a course. I believe they are trialling intra-articular injections for knees in people. Not sure if we have the same systemic reaction that dogs do, would be amazing if we could have intramuscular injections... Also had a miraculous result from gold pellets 1cm under the skin on acupressure points. Had a dog after car accident come back after many operations, fractured pelvis, femur, humerus, osteomyelitis. The dog basically limped in on one functional leg. Xrays showed osteophytes in joint capsules. Six months after implanting gold chips that dog walked in on all fours and even jumped up to greet us, xrays showed the bone spicules had dissolved! Just the most amazing thing to see and a very happy owner as this was her last hope before having her pet put down.
I believe it’s in phase 3 trials for humans. I’m a little worried about its effects on eyes, but if it’s injected locally in the joint, it may not be an issue.
In addition to HA, collagen, glucosamine, etc. I’m using DMSO on my knees, which you would know about. Funny story my parents used to get it black market from the horsetrack back in the 60s and it worked great on their aches and pains and especially my mom‘s osteoarthritis. Now I’m the age where I need it.
@@se5594 Hi! Just a few drops, right on your joints. Rub it in with two fingers to minimize getting it anywhere except where you want it… it may feel a little stingy or if it burns, I would wash it off. Wash your hand afterwards so you don’t inadvertently touch your eyes. Make sure you don’t have anything else on your joint no other creams, nothing. Because DMSO is a solvent, and it will take that other cream into your body, you don’t want that. Be careful if you are taking medications probably check with your physician before using, and don’t use if you are drinking alcohol it makes it more potent. I made the mistake of trying to use it with hyaluronic acid and the combination burned my skin. I had to wash it off immediately and left a burn mark so it’s nothing to fool around with. It will give a garlicky smell to your breath also. There’s a good article online about DMSO usage in horses. It’s at sciencedirect.com and is included in a book titled Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery, Second Edition, published 2014. It gives a great history of its use and benefits. Another thing that amazingly helped me was going to a spring yesterday and walking in the very cold water up over my knees. I didn’t have any trouble yesterday at all after that. So I’m going to use ice packs on a more regular basis. A friend suggested TheraICE Rx knee ice pack compression sleeves. Also, capacin cream from Dollar Tree works wonders, as do Glucosamine creams, but never, never mix with DMSO! Good luck! Hope this helps!
This is a really interesting and in depth video, thank you! I love how you are talking through methods and showing what the up and downsides are, and which benefits to expect. There is a few methods I've seen in regenerative medicine that I'm curious what you think about them: - mosaicplasty (plugs with harvested cartilage are injected in the subchondral bone at the defect) - Matrix-induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (harvesting the patients own cartilage, growing it in a lab and transplanting this into the joint), -Chondrofiller (an injection of collagen type 1 that fills a defect and is supposed to turn into type 2 cartilage through chondrocyte migration).
In my experience through research and seeing lots of doctors in the UK - mosaicplasty is only really relevant for small acute injuries in high level atheletes, not osteoarthritis. Long term outcomes are not as great as you'd hope. ACI works but is expensive and requires multiple operations (apart from the 'minced' version which can be done in a single operation). ACI actually needs the correct morphology of a defect as well. the ACI graft essentially needs to sit in a depression - so you can't for example cover the end of a bone with it (at least currently). Again this is almost exclusively used for focal acute defects. One of the proponents of it since hte 80s told me - 'No OA' as a criteria for having it. The general knowledge is that ACI can't be used for kissing lesions - but there is research showing it can, its just complex as the same process needs to be carried out on both sides. I don't think it will be used for established OA. There is however a recent paper demonstrating ACI with adjunct BMAC worked for 10 years in a 70 year old with knee OA and he returned to running as a sport until he was 80. The graft degenerated over time as you would expect, so its unlikely to become a normal treatment in the UK given the costs. Chondrofiller (if its also known as hydrogel?) looks like a more interesting prospect. All of these are developed and tested in knees - hardly anyone in the world doing ACI in other joints (eg elbow, shoulder). My personal interpretation is that these surgical operations are moving into the pre-OA defect repair space, and the hope for established OA is genetic / biologic treatment (FGF-18 / Sprifermin and stuff like TNF etc) which essentially instruct your body to manage the joint processes differently.
I have a nasty painful ankle, and am getting plasma treatments. I have excellent shoes, ankle braces, use all of diet, and supplement suggestions. I was an avid hiker and swing dancer until the ankle felt like it was being sliced by a razor a year ago. I use red light therapy several times a day. It does deaden the pain, and I do not want to ever quit using it.
I have had osteoarthritis since my 30s, it's genetic. I'm not convinced you can regrow cartilage, but I AM convinced that we can stop the destruction of cartilage (at least really slow it) and we can make existing cartilage more healthy! Supplements and diet are key.
@@rubijawaid3816 Plant-based omega 3 AND 6 (parent essential oils), vitamin B compound, and half of a multivitamin. I believe the omegas have been key. I have started some collagen peptide supplementation to keep tendons healthy. Never take fish oils and never take the huge doses listed on the bottles.

Thank you for the detailed video! I just wanted to warn your audience about glucosamine. In some patients it may cause increased intraocular pressure and can lead to glaucoma. Unfortunately I am one of those patients. I have had many joint injuries, additionally I have genetic predisposition and I have developed osteoarthritis in my 30s and I had been taking supplements for joint pain relief just to end up having glaucoma.
My husband is getting roster comb injection to his knee that had ACL repair & had to take out his cartlige. It seems to do some good. The study he's doing showes relatively good improvement.
Acl mcl meniscus injured 45 years ago. Last year and a half severe pain walking with cane. Started doing leg swings with ankle weights 10 lbs for last two months three times a day 15 minutes at a time. Now walking without cane. Will continue to see if it continues but so far much better.
There needs to be more studies on transdermal glucosamine cream or transdermal hyaluronic acid and red light therapy. I believe these over time can re build cartilage combined with passive ROM physiotherapy.
A recent study showed that subjects with osteoarthritis that were given 8 prunes each day vs the group that wasn’t showed 80% improvement in re-growing cartilage. I was told to get shots for my back, chose not to, instead I take boswella with tumeric, msm and consume at least 5 prunes. Will have another x-ray in a few months for comparison. Have not had any pain since I’ve been on this protocol.
Have been using a homeopathic mix to support synovial fluid & has been showing promise. As a competitive Master Olympic Weightlifting competitor getting back into a full deep squat position in the snatch is vital for successful lifts. In my 30’s was no problem now at nearly 60 retuning to competition after a 20 year retirement the joint flexibility and stability is one of the most important & difficult things I have ever experienced. It is getting there, all of the items that are in the video I have researched & use (no injections or surgery repair issues this time, had surgery on both knees back in 95 for medial meniscus issues) so far some red light, synovial fluid maintenance joint manipulation and natural anti inflammatory nutrition has been successful. Not at full depth at maximum snatch yet (85-90kg at 73kg body weight) but getting better, strengthening muscle support currently more an issue than joint flexibility and stability (currently not using a belt or any wraps or sleeves for the knees & maximum back squat without them is 150kg front squat 138kg singles. Other joints overall are okay more muscular issues than structural issues. I appreciate this video for the overall reviews of the different types of things that may be beneficial for joint support and recovery. I still work 60+ hrs a week walking on concrete so optimizing the nutrition side is key in my 2nd career journey goals.

Doc, I’m changing the subject now, but a few weeks ago you made a video in which you talked about some skin issues. I often use GSE (grapefruit seed extract) on skin issues. It might be worth a try.
I use Biosil Collagen Generator, a Belgian product that stimulates the body's own production of collagen. I also use a multi-type collagen peptide product from marine, bovine, chicken bone and egg membrane sources. You can get an upgraded version of this with biotin, hyaluronic acid, etc. I take large doses of MSM, Chondroitin, and Glucosamine. My philosophy is to nourish the problem area while telling the nutrients where they need to go. I use 630 nano-meter infrared, which is what NASA uses on returning astronauts. You can barely feel the effects with the light alone. However, when I surround the problem area with gel pads and apply electrical stimulation, irradiating the area with infrared in between the electrodes amplifies the effect enormously. I discovered this by accident and got X-ray proof that I got rid of a bone spur that was causing excruciating pain with this approach. That area has been fine ever since. @@DrTomBiernacki Don't ignore Biosil Collagen Generator! It's a big deal. Researchers have been looking for a way to do this for a long time. Biosil works. I've recommended it to quite a few people. They're invariably delighted with it. Women tend to notice its effects first: better skin, nails, and hair. They notice very soon after beginning use.
I’ve found that MSM & boswellia extract capsules helpful for my stiff knees, along with riding my bike a lot and high protein low carb diet. I would NOT recommend stem cell injections. Thanks for sharing. I take tumeric, glucosamine, chondroitin, msm & calcium about 1000mg. I have yet to try boswellia extract. I seem to be ok and have not went back for injections. I also make my own oil. Doctors told me I will need knee replacement! Nope, I'm too young, I refuse. 😂 I heard they can go inside with blast out the dead cartilage so that the new one's can regrow.
No I'm not here to attack you. I'm here for advice. I I'm only 48 years old, and I am missing cartilage in my ankle the size of a chips ahoy cookie. The doctor attempted micro breaking and I'm 2 months post op. Been dealing with this injury for a year and 2 months. I'll take all the advice I can get, doctor! I don't want to just be not in pain , I want as much mobility as possible. I want to get back to tennis!
So many methods that were discussed here to regrow cartilage indicate possible improvements and strengthening but do not effectively grow cartilage like new again. At the same time it could preventing further deterioration and buying time over a bone on bone condition. Also the reasons pain itself can be perplexing and can happen when there is no real structural damage and can be absent when there are a lot of structural problems. We may be near to some cutting edge developments in the future due to increased interest in finding a cure and the lucrative payoffs.
You've comprehensively addressed the most common problem i.e. the cartilage loss of Knees. But I'm having a similar problem pertaining to my right shoulder.All kinds of remedies you have mentioned I have tried but without much success.You cannot regrow your cartilage. I've read somewhere that PRP treatment can give some relief but in the part of world that I am putting up I.e.Gujarat state of India.no such treatment dealings experts are available!!!

I can tell you something strange that occurred recently. I used to have shoulder and knee pain but once i started performing static holds in the positions that they were painful in, over time, probably 2 months all of a sudden that pain doesn't occur at all in the case of shoulders and very little with knees. All I did was hold the low position of a pushup for 30secs for sets of 15 x 3 sets. To make it less boring I moved that to a pushup with a pause at the bottom. Similarly I will purposely squat all the way down knees over toes and just hold it. At first, it would trigger the pain, but in both instances something in the joint got way stronger. No idea if it was cartilage or what. Mind you, I've deep squatted 315lbs and have benched 120lbs dumbells so hypothetically my joints should have already been hardened by those movements. So I'm not sure why/what the static holds did, all I know is I don't have the pain anymore in those positions. Just saying.
I had quite a few knee ops before my full knee replacement, one of them can’t remember name of it , but in the keyhole surgery they drilled a hole in my knee joint where the cartilage should be and my own body started to repair the hole which left scar tissue covering the hole which acts a cartilage, it lasted 10 yrs and pain free lol it was bliss , some people managed 15 to 20 yrs , I started to have knee problems when I was 19 I’m now 57 so it was good for me meaning did not have to have knee replacement earlier .
That provocative drilling is designed to have blood well up from the bone and fill the cartilage void, and it becomes fibro cartilage. That’s not as good as the original hyaline cartilage, but it’s better than having nothing there. Cartilage has no blood supply itself.
I have bone on bone level symptoms. Instead of walking using a bicycle for muscle training né transport helps massively. PRP might not be so effective at growing cartilage but it does have the effect of lubricating the joint and is natural without having deleterious effects.If the joint is more lubricated then the joint will last longer which means a joint replacement can be put off. Using TENS on the painful joint areas has helped in my case.
Wasn’t there a doctor that used intraarticular h GH injections to regrow knee cartilage? 20 ius a week for 3 weeks if I remember correctly. Obviously skilled doctor and proper equipment required.

Thanks for a great video. The recent discovery that IR light produces Melatonin within Cells is perhaps another reason why PBM is useful in treating joint problems - as well as COVID etc. I'm bone on bone on one knee, and since using PBM I have been able to stop having 6 monthly steroid injections. Not a perfect solution, but it sure does help!
Recent comments on PRP point to its failure being caused by doctors not drawing enough blood and not extracting enough platelets to qualify as platelet RICH plasma. Also the need to identify single points to target, as opposed to spreading PRP around the irritated area, and using image guided injections over landmark targeting was strongly recommended.
Have you looked into hgh/igf-1 injection intraarticularly? Studies have shown that they lower pain significantly and have been proven to regrow articular cartilage in animals and humans

Good information, may I add proper hydration as well and while strengthening calfs and quads, also strengthening glutes, they play a big role in knee alignment and stopping knee pain
I had stem cell treatment on my neck and elbow after diagnosis for arthritis. The pain in my neck was gone after 4 weeks and the pain in my elbow was gone after 8 weeks. I have not taken any pain medication for either in 2 years since the treatement. I have not had xrays on the areas since treatment because there is no pain to justify the scans.

Without medicine, my right knee feels a little pain and stiffness. I've visited two doctors - one says you will be okay with exercise plus medicine but the other recommends a PRP to which the first doctor disagrees. New subscriber!!! Have you heard of Genicular Artery Embolizatiom (GAE)? It’s non-surgical treatment for arthritis of the knee. If so, what is your opinion of it? I have knee pain in both knees. I have one knee replacement (2018) and I still have a lot of pain in it. My orthopedic surgeon told me my fibromyalgia may have something to do with still having pain. I don’t know if I believe it. Perhaps drinking homemade bonebroth daily from pasture raised animals, getting plenty of vit D3/K2/Mag/zinc and try out a rebounder for exercise. And of course try your best to avoid seed/vegetable oils & refined sugars and salts. Our bones are made up of many minerals which we can get from eating things like Redmond's Real salt or Celtic Sea salt. Also sea moss and bee pollen.

At this time, unfortunately nothing grows new hyaline cartilage. But diet can certainly deplete it via inflammation if one eats a lot of sugar, ultra processed foods, and vegetable oils. That happens whether or not the person is obese.

There is no doubt that turmeric helps. I make my own turmeric latte out of turmeric, different other spices, and oat milk. But I have to be honest - it tastes close to disgusting :D If it didn't knock out inflammation so effectively, I'd never in a million years drink that stuff again. I drink it only when I reaaaaally need to put out the fire, which is rather rarely. Ginger tea tastes much better and I drink it every day! Sincerely, a 30- year old with OA.
What about prolotherapy? I have heard, from some recipients as well as anecdotal that it works/improves conditions much of the time; from TMJ to back/knee/elbow/neck/hyper extensions...usually less than a handful of injections, 4-6 weeks apart, in conjunction w/range of motion exercises...

I was crippled with arthritis in my 40s and had nearly all the cartilage removed from one knee. I've used Moringa powder to defeat my arthritis pain, and developed my own exercise routines. I started with "old people's" exercises, and worked up. The more I move, the less issues with my joints I have. Other things that worked for me: giving up alcohol completely, avoiding sugar and starchy stuff (pasta, potatoes, rice) and avoiding bread. I find that maintaining healthy weight, blood sugar and blood pressure has a good effect on arthtitis. Now in my 60s, NO arthritis pain.

Good to hear that you're on the road to recovery by the sound of things So much Moringa were you taking, as I tought that it was more for Rheumatoid Arthritis rather than Osteo-Arthritis? I've been doing low-carbs to keto for several yearsnow along with I.F! However, I still got stiffness in my right hip, although three years on since I managed to see a Dr I havent needed Pain-killing Injections (not that I would take them anyway!)
Age 81, Fe, diagnosed bone on bone in both knees and recommended for knee replacement. Instead, I am using infrared, diet, supplements, exercise, AND I purchased a vibration plate which I have used for ten minutes per day at 30 HZ for one year. With combining all these things, I cannot point to one and say it is the “magic bullet.” I am showing definite improvements combing these approaches. I’m now walking without a limp. Most difficult is on awakening when I hold onto furniture as I first get up.

@@JonWolaver I did a lot of research prior to my purchase. The studies by Clinton Rubin show effectiveness when the plate is at 30 hz for ten minutes sessions used consistently for a year. I try to do 2 or 3 sessions daily allowing about 3 hours between sessions. My plate will do movements other than vibration and has a range up to 60 hz. I don’t go there. I try to duplicate the Rubin study because he worked with NASA and children with cancer. It has to be regular use. I had surgery on my hand to repair a nerve. Currently I put my hand on my knee while on the plate so I feel vibration in my hand. Rubin indicates that the vibration helps to generate new stem cells which characteristically slows down with aging. My premise is I’ll take all the stem cells I can get.

Where do I get the ' infra-red' gadget. Maybe these things don't work for all people, but I'm prepared to try any and everything, provided they don't do more damage. The problem with 30hz vibration is that it can't get into the joint at any useful intensity. Physiotherapists have a device ( I think it might be called an interferometer) this feeds in two high frequency signals, which can get into the joint, with frequencies which differ by about 30hz ( this is a skightly simplified explanation). In the joint, they combine to form the difference frequency ( plus the sum frequency-,in case any engineers are reading this), and so a 30 hz vibration gets right into the joint. It moves things around to reduce inflammation. It doesn't really heal anything, but makes the joint freer, and this is always a good thing.

Now a full panel is on order for twice the wattage and to cover more body areas. Price on that ran about $1200. Alex Fergus has a RUclips of infrared light penetrating bone mass. His website Red Light Insiders contains links to PubMed research. The studies on osteoporosis and knees are impressive. I will use those studies to guide my timing, frequency, and distance. My research indicates that wave length above 800 is more penetrating for bones. 600 is more related to skin issues and producing collagen.
Nine years ago at age 50, I was being scheduled for knee replacements in both knees due to bone on bone arthritis and severe pain. At the 11th hour I decided to try stem cell transplants which included injections of hyaluronic acid and platelet rich plasma (PRP). I was told over 20 years ago that I needed a knee replacement. But I endured the pain. Then in 2013 I completed a 34 day fast, of which 9 days were dry fasting. It essentially cured my arthritis - knees, shoulders and hips. The pain has now returned and I am due for another long fast.
Fasting can relieve the symptoms of (osteo)arthritis but it certainly does NOT cure (osteo)arthritis. If it 'cured' your condition then it would not have returned so very easily.
The cure is coming slowly through stem cell and gene therapy based cartilage resurfacing and regeneration techniques. It will take about another 10-15 years before it's widely available.

I’ve been using red/near infrared light on my arthritis for more than a year. It helps to relieve the pain temporarily, it doesn’t heal my arthritis. My husband also developed arthritis in his knee after an injury - even though he used my red/NIR light device on the injury.
The only treatment that has significantly helped my arthritis was autologous stem cell injections in my thumb joints. However it was very expensive, not covered by insurance, and very painful. I was told I’d need to repeat it after a few years, but it has lasted about 10 years so far. 😊

I just bought some. I also drink bone broth. My mom makes good bone broth that looks like gelatin after being refrigerated. I think she just takes bones and adds water in a pressure cooker. It seems better than anything I can buy because they aren't gelatin but just liquid at room temperature. They never gel when refrigerated.

How?
One of the things that I belt is missing from the glucosamine treatment is gelatin.
I’ve used glucosamine/chondroiten supplements for years, but always used gelatin with it.
The gelatin is made from the connective tissue that has been rendered down.
On top of that, I use hyaluronic acid.
The combinations of these things have helped my joints immensely.
Eating right, staying away from sody pop and junk foods, and staying active helps a LOT.

It is regular beef gelatin, I do a combination of putting it in my coffee with one scoop or, it’s a little difficult I make Jell-O cubes and use natural fruit flavoring to mix in with it you have to boil the water and then stir in the gelatin very quickly and then spray in the flavoring, kind of the natural water flavoring, you can make it as thick as you like so sometimes it’s chewy or or it’s a little bit thinner and easy to liquefy in your mouth.

I am not bone on bone (thankfully!), but I use Glucosamine chondroitin, calcium, vitamin C, and magnesium. I was sort of taking biotin but not sure if that was helping. I want to try Callogen, to see if it helps some. The supplements I take help me to continue working (in a warehouse, so lots of lifting, carrying, moving... Curious about Pentosan polysulphate. We used that intramuscular over 30 years ago in veterinary practice on dogs and horses... absolutely amazing results, old arthritic dogs would bounce back like puppies after a course. I believe they are trialling intra-articular injections for knees in people. Not sure if we have the same systemic reaction that dogs do, would be amazing if we could have intramuscular injections... Also had a miraculous result from gold pellets 1cm under the skin on acupressure points. Had a dog after car accident come back after many operations, fractured pelvis, femur, humerus, osteomyelitis. The dog basically limped in on one functional leg. Xrays showed osteophytes in joint capsules. Six months after implanting gold chips that dog walked in on all fours and even jumped up to greet us, xrays showed the bone spicules had dissolved! Just the most amazing thing to see and a very happy owner as this was her last hope before having her pet put down.
I believe it’s in phase 3 trials for humans. I’m a little worried about its effects on eyes, but if it’s injected locally in the joint, it may not be an issue.
In addition to HA, collagen, glucosamine, etc. I’m using DMSO on my knees, which you would know about. Funny story my parents used to get it black market from the horsetrack back in the 60s and it worked great on their aches and pains and especially my mom‘s osteoarthritis. @@se5594 Hi! Just a few drops, right on your joints. Rub it in with two fingers to minimize getting it anywhere except where you want it… it may feel a little stingy or if it burns, I would wash it off. Wash your hand afterwards so you don’t inadvertently touch your eyes. Make sure you don’t have anything else on your joint no other creams, nothing. Because DMSO is a solvent, and it will take that other cream into your body, you don’t want that. Be careful if you are taking medications probably check with your physician before using, and don’t use if you are drinking alcohol it makes it more potent. I made the mistake of trying to use it with hyaluronic acid and the combination burned my skin. I had to wash it off immediately and left a burn mark so it’s nothing to fool around with. It will give a garlicky smell to your breath also. There’s a good article online about DMSO usage in horses. It’s at sciencedirect.com and is included in a book titled Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery, Second Edition, published 2014. It gives a great history of its use and benefits.
Another thing that amazingly helped me was going to a spring yesterday and walking in the very cold water up over my knees. I didn’t have any trouble yesterday at all after that. So I’m going to use ice packs on a more regular basis. A friend suggested TheraICE Rx knee ice pack compression sleeves. Also, capacin cream from Dollar Tree works wonders, as do Glucosamine creams, but never, never mix with DMSO! Good luck! Hope this helps!

This is a really interesting and in depth video, thank you! I love how you are talking through methods and showing what the up and downsides are, and which benefits to expect.
There is a few methods I've seen in regenerative medicine that I'm curious what you think about them:
- mosaicplasty (plugs with harvested cartilage are injected in the subchondral bone at the defect)
- Matrix-induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (harvesting the patients own cartilage, growing it in a lab and transplanting this into the joint),
-Chondrofiller (an injection of collagen type 1 that fills a defect and is supposed to turn into type 2 cartilage through chondrocyte migration).
In my experience through research and seeing lots of doctors in the UK - mosaicplasty is only really relevant for small acute injuries in high level atheletes, not osteoarthritis. Long term outcomes are not as great as you'd hope. ACI works but is expensive and requires multiple operations (apart from the 'minced' version which can be done in a single operation). ACI actually needs the correct morphology of a defect as well. the ACI graft essentially needs to sit in a depression - so you can't for example cover the end of a bone with it (at least currently). Again this is almost exclusively used for focal acute defects. One of the proponents of it since hte 80s told me - 'No OA' as a criteria for having it. The general knowledge is that ACI can't be used for kissing lesions - but there is research showing it can, its just complex as the same process needs to be carried out on both sides. I don't think it will be used for established OA. There is however a recent paper demonstrating ACI with adjunct BMAC worked for 10 years in a 70 year old with knee OA and he returned to running as a sport until he was 80. The graft degenerated over time as you would expect, so its unlikely to become a normal treatment in the UK given the costs. Chondrofiller (if its also known as hydrogel?) looks like a more interesting prospect. All of these are developed and tested in knees - hardly anyone in the world doing ACI in other joints (eg elbow, shoulder). My personal interpretation is that these surgical operations are moving into the pre-OA defect repair space, and the hope for established OA is genetic / biologic treatment (FGF-18 / Sprifermin and stuff like TNF etc) which essentially instruct your body to manage the joint processes differently.
I have a nasty painful ankle, and am getting plasma treatments. I have excellent shoes, ankle braces, use all of diet, and supplement suggestions. I was an avid hiker and swing dancer until the ankle felt like it was being sliced by a razor a year ago. I use red light therapy several times a day. It does deaden the pain, and I do not want to ever quit using it.
I have had osteoarthritis since my 30s, it's genetic. I'm not convinced you can regrow cartilage, but I AM convinced that we can stop the destruction of cartilage (at least really slow it) and we can make existing cartilage more healthy! Supplements and diet are key.

I have started some collagen peptide supplementation to keep tendons healthy. Never take fish oils and never take the huge doses listed on the bottles.

Thank you for the detailed video! I just wanted to warn your audience about glucosamine. In some patients it may cause increased intraocular pressure and can lead to glaucoma. Unfortunately I am one of those patients. I have had many joint injuries, additionally I have genetic predisposition and I have developed osteoarthritis in my 30s and I had been taking supplements for joint pain relief just to end up having glaucoma.
That's just anecdotal.
My husband is getting roster comb injection to his knee that had ACL repair & had to take out his cartlige. It seems to do some good. The study he's doing showes relatively good improvement.
Acl mcl meniscus injured 45 years ago. Last year and a half severe pain walking with cane. Started doing leg swings with ankle weights 10 lbs for last two months three times a day 15 minutes at a time. Now walking without cane. Will continue to see if it continues but so far much better.
There needs to be more studies on transdermal glucosamine cream or transdermal hyaluronic acid and red light therapy. I believe these over time can re build cartilage combined with passive ROM physiotherapy.

Ozone injection into the knee joint is well documented as an option. Works in most cases that haven't progressed to bone on bone.
A recent study showed that subjects with osteoarthritis that were given 8 prunes each day vs the group that wasn’t showed 80% improvement in re-growing cartilage.
I was told to get shots for my back, chose not to, instead I take boswella with tumeric, msm and consume at least 5 prunes. Will have another x-ray in a few months for comparison. Have not had any pain since I’ve been on this protocol.

Have been using a homeopathic mix to support synovial fluid & has been showing promise. As a competitive Master Olympic Weightlifting competitor getting back into a full deep squat position in the snatch is vital for successful lifts. In my 30’s was no problem now at nearly 60 retuning to competition after a 20 year retirement the joint flexibility and stability is one of the most important & difficult things I have ever experienced. It is getting there, all of the items that are in the video I have researched & use (no injections or surgery repair issues this time, had surgery on both knees back in 95 for medial meniscus issues) so far some red light, synovial fluid maintenance joint manipulation and natural anti inflammatory nutrition has been successful. Not at full depth at maximum snatch yet (85-90kg at 73kg body weight) but getting better, strengthening muscle support currently more an issue than joint flexibility and stability (currently not using a belt or any wraps or sleeves for the knees & maximum back squat without them is 150kg front squat 138kg singles. Other joints overall are okay more muscular issues than structural issues. I appreciate this video for the overall reviews of the different types of things that may be beneficial for joint support and recovery. I still work 60+ hrs a week walking on concrete so optimizing the nutrition side is key in my 2nd career journey goals.

Doc, I’m changing the subject now, but a few weeks ago you made a video in which you talked about some skin issues. I often use GSE (grapefruit seed extract) on skin issues. It might be worth a try.

I use Biosil Collagen Generator, a Belgian product that stimulates the body's own production of collagen. I also use a multi-type collagen peptide product from marine, bovine, chicken bone and egg membrane sources. You can get an upgraded version of this with biotin, hyaluronic acid, etc. I take large doses of MSM, Chondroitin, and Glucosamine.
My philosophy is to nourish the problem area while telling the nutrients where they need to go. I use 630 nano-meter infrared, which is what NASA uses on returning astronauts. You can barely feel the effects with the light alone. However, when I surround the problem area with gel pads and apply electrical stimulation, irradiating the area with infrared in between the electrodes amplifies the effect enormously.

@@DrTomBiernacki Don't ignore Biosil Collagen Generator! It's a big deal. Researchers have been looking for a way to do this for a long time. Biosil works. I've recommended it to quite a few people. They're invariably delighted with it. Women tend to notice its effects first: better skin, nails, and hair. They notice very soon after beginning use.

So many methods that were discussed here to regrow cartilage indicate possible improvements and strengthening but do not effectively grow cartilage like new again. At the same time it could preventing further deterioration and buying time over a bone on bone condition. I can tell you something strange that occurred recently. I used to have shoulder and knee pain but once i started performing static holds in the positions that they were painful in, over time, probably 2 months all of a sudden that pain doesn't occur at all in the case of shoulders and very little with knees. All I did was hold the low position of a pushup for 30secs for sets of 15 x 3 sets. To make it less boring I moved that to a pushup with a pause at the bottom. Similarly I will purposely squat all the way down knees over toes and just hold it. At first, it would trigger the pain, but in both instances something in the joint got way stronger. No idea if it was cartilage or what. Mind you, I've deep squatted 315lbs and have benched 120lbs dumbells so hypothetically my joints should have already been hardened by those movements. So I'm not sure why/what the static holds did, all I know is I don't have the pain anymore in those positions. Just saying.

I had quite a few knee ops before my full knee replacement, one of them can’t remember name of it , but in the keyhole surgery they drilled a hole in my knee joint where the cartilage should be and my own body started to repair the hole which left scar tissue covering the hole which acts a cartilage, it lasted 10 yrs and pain free lol it was bliss , some people managed 15 to 20 yrs , I started to have knee problems when I was 19 I’m now 57 so it was good for me meaning did not have to have knee replacement earlier .

Instead of walking using a bicycle for muscle training né transport helps massively.
PRP might not be so effective at growing cartilage but it does have the effect of lubricating the joint and is natural without having deleterious effects.If the joint is more lubricated then the joint will last longer which means a joint replacement can be put off.
Using TENS on the painful joint areas has helped in my case.
Wasn’t there a doctor that used intraarticular h GH injections to regrow knee cartilage? 20 ius a week for 3 weeks if I remember correctly. Obviously skilled doctor and proper equipment required.

The recent discovery that IR light produces Melatonin within Cells is perhaps another reason why PBM is useful in treating joint problems - as well as COVID etc. I'm bone on bone on one knee, and since using PBM I have been able to stop having 6 monthly steroid injections. Not a perfect solution, but it sure does help!
Recent comments on PRP point to its failure being caused by doctors not drawing enough blood and not extracting enough platelets to qualify as platelet RICH plasma. Also the need to identify single points to target, as opposed to spreading PRP around the irritated area, and using image guided injections over landmark targeting was strongly recommended.
Have you looked into hgh/igf-1 injection intraarticularly? Studies have shown that they lower pain significantly and have been proven to regrow articular cartilage in animals and humans

Peptide Cartalax - took my arthritis pain away in 1 dose Sub Q. Hoping it will regrow the damaged / lack of cartilage in my foot. After this cycle, I plan on getting another CT Scan

Yeah, I had surgery on one knee and now my doctor wants to do a PRP injection on the other. Does PRP WORK?

Good information, may I add proper hydration as well and while strengthening calfs and quads, also strengthening glutes, they play a big role in knee alignment and stopping knee pain

I had stem cell treatment on my neck and elbow after diagnosis for arthritis. The pain in my neck was gone after 4 weeks and the pain in my elbow was gone after 8 weeks. I have not taken any pain medication for either in 2 years since the treatement. I have not had xrays on the areas since treatment because there is no pain to justify the scans.
When did you get your stem cell treatment

Hi Doc! I hope you're doing well. I was recently diagnosed with stage 1 osteoarthritis with an x-ray showing normal spacing. I'm 37, an EFL teacher. Without medicine, my right knee feels a little pain and stiffness. I've visited two doctors - one says you will be okay with exercise plus medicine but the other recommends a PRP to which the first doctor disagrees. I'm confused and worried about my teaching career and how I support my family in the long run due to this knee problem. What should I do? Thanks!

Have you heard of Genicular Artery Embolizatiom (GAE)? It’s non-surgical treatment for arthritis of the knee. If so, what is your opinion of it? I have knee pain in both knees. I have one knee replacement (2018) and I still have a lot of pain in it. My orthopedic surgeon told me my fibromyalgia may have something to do with still having pain. I don’t know if I believe it. At this time, unfortunately nothing grows new hyaline cartilage.
But diet can certainly deplete it via inflammation if one eats a lot of sugar, ultra processed foods, and vegetable oils. That happens whether or not the person is obese.

There is no doubt that turmeric helps. I make my own turmeric latte out of turmeric, different other spices, and oat milk. But I have to be honest - it tastes close to disgusting :D If it didn't knock out inflammation so effectively, I'd never in a million years drink that stuff again. I drink it only when I reaaaaally need to put out the fire, which is rather rarely. Ginger tea tastes much better and I drink it every day! Sincerely, a 30- year old with OA.
What about prolotherapy? I have heard, from some recipients as well as anecdotal that it works/improves conditions much of the time; from TMJ to back/knee/elbow/neck/hyper extensions...usually less than a handful of injections, 4-6 weeks apart, in conjunction w/range of motion exercises...
