When the movie was being shot, Mike Myers wanted to include Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen into the film; but Lorne Michaels, the executive producer of the movie, wasn’t sure that song would work in the movie. Myers insisted it could not only fit; that it would be an iconic moment in the film. Michaels relented. Myers then reached out to Queen (specifically Brian May & Roger Taylor), to ask for permission to use the song in the movie. Remember, at this point in time, no one knew how sick Freddie Mercury was. So imagine if you will, in the few short months after Mercury’s death in 1991, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody became a huge hit in part of Wayne’s World. And then almost 25 years later, Mike Myers would have a cameo in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie; in a scene that would harken back and reference the head banging scene in this film.
I think the "No Stairway" joke has a similar story. They wanted to just play a riff from the song but couldn't get the rights, so they made a joke out of it.
@@MisterHPlays "No Stairway" was an actual thing at guitar shops, where mediocre guitarists often tried to impress with the iconic yet fairly easy riff.

I was in my teens when this came out, and my friends and I were quoting it for months, doing the Bohemian Rhapsody headbang, etc. The movie was so huge that the Paramount-owned amusement park in my city had a Wayne’s World section for years. There was a roller coaster called The Hurler, a Stan Mikita’s Doughnuts, and a replica of Garth’s car. Wayne’s World 2 is worth watching. It’s hilarious but doesn’t really have the magic the first one did.
Glad you enjoyed it! When this came out when I was 21 years old and I'm from Chicago, which is 2 hours away from Aurora, Illinois. My bff and I loved it!
People play hockey on rollerblades in the streets all the time where I live in Minnesota. The key is to get away from big cities and people are much less on edge.
9:16 it's an old commercial for Grey poupon mustard. Two Cadillacs are at a light side by side, they roll the windows down, and one shares his mustard with the other.
The introduction of Stan Mikita's is a nod to Tim Hortons, as both were famous hockey players. Add to that the fact that Mike Myers is Canadian, and you can understand the inclusion of something hockey related.
I'm guessing they picked the name they did because even though Mike Myers is a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, this movie does take place in the Chicago area, so it only made sense to use the name of a Blackhawks legend instead.
Such an absolute classic film. If I remember Mike Myers got permission and the blessing of Queen to use Bohemian Rhapsody during this film. If you have ever seen the film Bohemian Rhapsody Mike Myers played the role of the producer who turned Queen away and refused to allow them to use that song on their album which ultimately lead to them leaving that company. Really amazing cameo I've always felt tied back to this move which came out over 20 years before.
It kinda broke my heart when she referred to Chris Farley as “that guy” & didn’t recognize him…:( she needs to watch Tommy Boy & some old Saturday Night Live skits to educate herself…:) He’s the best
The theme music that plays while Garth gets the taser ready is the Mission Impossible theme. The one from the tv show, but you probably remember it from the movies. Edit: Watching younger people experience this movie for the first time makes me feel so damn old.
The Grey Poupon joke was in reference to a famous commercial at the time. It played out in similar fashion, with two vehicles side by side, and one person in one vehicle asking the same questio to someone in the other vehicle.
A trained singer, Tia Carrere performed all of her own songs in the first film, and the Wayne's World soundtrack features her vocals. She turned down a role in Baywatch to audition for Wayne's World. In 1992, People named her to its annual "50 most beautiful people" list. The role I remember her most for though is as *Professor Sydney Fox,* on the TV series *"Relic Hunter"* (Think Indiana Jones, crossed with Lara Croft 😎). For it's 3 season run from 1999 to 2002 The *"Mission Impossible Theme"* is originally from the TV series (7 season's)1966 to 1973. I'd suggest watching them, before getting into the movies(not a must, but could be helpful.. no need to do reactions ...unless You 'really' want to) There's also a 2 season remake/sequel series, that ran from 1988 to 1990.
Grew up in Toronto... All Wayne's phrases and sayings, dialect came from the east end of Toronto (Scarborough where Mike Myer's grew up.) ... we all knew guys from that part of the city... blew our minds that it made it to center stage on SNL and then a hit movie.
Don’t know if anyone said it in an earlier comment, but she is a Grammy award winning artist. She is also still just as gorgeous in real life. She came to my friend’s show in LA and was so cool. Before I realized she was a family friend and just saw her in the audience I definitely whispered an awed, “Cassandra!”
This movie tripped me out bcuz they drove by a bunch of neighborhood locations i always hung out at as a kid, so i always expected to see the Mirth-mobile riding about town when i was little : P
Every Canadian can gel with the street hockey scene we know exactly how it is. In Canada in the summer we’d play hockey in the street. Not just one on one. Like ten kids would show up and someone’s mom would bring us lemonade. Sure there’s no ice nor a puck but we had tennis balls. We’d still gear up and play hockey. And the law be damned. We always moved the nets if a car was coming by. This scene is incredibly accurate. “CAR! GAME ON”. Is not a joke. We did this as kids. This. Exact. Thing.
This was basically the only VHS tape I owned growing up. I saw this and Terminator 2 close to 1000 times. My brothers and I will still sometimes randomly say "A gun rack? I don't even own ahhh gun."
Hi Mary, Thanks for the reaction, this is a fun movie and I really enjoyed rewatching it with you. Others have probably already pointed this out, Wayne's World was originally a skit on the Saturday Night Live TV Show. It is about these 2 guys who have a public access show. Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I believe that back in the day there was some sort of rule about cable having to provide, access for free airtime for local communities, and people would create shows, typically it was called public access or something similar. They were no/low budget shows created by local people. Anyway, the SNL skit was a hit and recurred almost every week on SNL for quite a while. the SNL cast of that time period was really good IMO, (Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, and more). The recurring skit was so successful that it spawned this movie and a sequel. and also forged the way for other SNL based/inspired movies. Anyway, Thanks again for all the fun and entertainment you bring.
As a native of the Chicago suburbs, yes: Aurora, IL is a real town. It's always such a treat when something is "set" so close to home. Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, etc. are such Chi-town (Chicago) classics. Wayne's World is right near the top of that list. Thanks to the "Second City" comedy troupe, many of SNL's cast members and other comedians (such as Stephen Colbert) cut their comedy teeth in the City of Big Shoulders, so they reference us from time to time.
Tia is Hawaiian playing a Hong Kong girl - not a Brit, although Hong Kong was a colony at the time. We were doing "That's what SHE said" back in the '70s - and Graucho Marx in the '40s. Wayne's World 2 is necessary now!

There was a roller coaster called The Hurler, a Stan Mikita’s Doughnuts, and a replica of Garth’s car.
Wayne’s World 2 is worth watching. It’s hilarious but doesn’t really have the magic the first one did.
You fell for " A Sphincter says What" LOL!
As a kid we played in the streets in Minneapolis. People go slow enough on side streets so we could move quick enough.
Street hockey was and still is a big thing in Canada, albeit on the least busy streets.
GAME ON!
Rob Lowe also starred in the hockey movie Youngblood.
I'm guessing they picked the name they did because even though Mike Myers is a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, this movie does take place in the Chicago area, so it only made sense to use the name of a Blackhawks legend instead.
@@bluebear1985 Yes, I’m sure.
This movie was the definition of the late 80's and early to mid 90's. It's surprisingly accurate on the time frame.
My childhood!
@@johnrawlings6610 Every kid who got their first car would pick up their friends and play Bohemian Rhapsody on the first night cruising.
LOL I died when you kept saying "What?". Gotta be the cutest way I have ever seen anybody take that bait.
We're not worthy.. we're not worthy!
"Schwing" is the sound of a sword coming out of the scabbard.
Indeed
In a manner of speaking...
Mary, all I can say when you say, "Wait.... what?!" is this: "It was the 90s. You kinda had to be there."
37:00 The different endings bit, Mary. The movie Clue did it first. You HAVE to watch it. A bunch of fun.
Learning Cantonese isn’t that crazy…I learned to speak Australian so I could comment on your channel!!
Now I'm thinking about those "How to speak Australian" Fosters commercials.
@@ShawnRavenfire "Locksmith" was my favorite.
@@ShawnRavenfire 😂😂😂 Completely forgot about those!!
As near as I can tell, it involves never shutting up. 🤣
It kinda broke my heart when she referred to Chris Farley as “that guy” & didn’t recognize him…:( she needs to watch Tommy Boy & some old Saturday Night Live skits to educate herself…:) He’s the best
Nice reax!!!👍🏼 Laughed my butt off when I saw this flick in theaters when I was a sophomore in high school-30 years ago in ‘92😳
The theme music that plays while Garth gets the taser ready is the Mission Impossible theme. The one from the tv show, but you probably remember it from the movies.
Edit: Watching younger people experience this movie for the first time makes me feel so damn old.
True Lies is an excellent film.
The Grey Poupon joke was in reference to a famous commercial at the time. It played out in similar fashion, with two vehicles side by side, and one person in one vehicle asking the same questio to someone in the other vehicle.
Basically advertised as fancy mayo.
For it's 3 season run from 1999 to 2002
The *"Mission Impossible Theme"* is originally from the TV series (7 season's)1966 to 1973. I'd suggest watching them, before getting into the movies(not a must, but could be helpful.. no need to do reactions ...unless You 'really' want to)
There's also a 2 season remake/sequel series, that ran from 1988 to 1990.
Lol I loved Relic Hunter hahaha. You just reminded me of it haha.
This. Exact. Thing.
Who else knows how to pick a team by everyone throwing their sticks in a pile and randomly chucking sticks left and right.
The sequel is worth peeping for sure!
I watched this once a very long time ago and remember loving it so am glad I'm watching this again with you! 😅😁
This was basically the only VHS tape I owned growing up. I saw this and Terminator 2 close to 1000 times. My brothers and I will still sometimes randomly say "A gun rack? I don't even own ahhh gun."
@@BlackavarWD
You could just use it for hockey sticks.
This was so cute watching all the Gen X/Millennial references fly completely over Mary's head. Such a nostalgic movie for me.
The references are pretty dated, but most of this movie holds up. Very fun.
Kids don't know the Grey Poupon bit anymore.
Now the Bill and Ted movies would be an excellent way to continue... 😂
If you liked this movie, then Wayne's World 2 is definitely worth watching, yes
Hi Mary,
Thanks for the reaction, this is a fun movie and I really enjoyed rewatching it with you.
I saw this movie when it first came to cable and I laughed out loud the entire time.
I was 11 or 12 when this came out, so i grew up watching it and the snl skit it came from. Classic
I think the mocumentary genre was bigger in movies back then. A couple classics are Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.
*This Is Spinal Tap* and
*The God's Must Be Crazy*
When you asked"How did this get the OK for television?"
Easy, before the 2000's, we we're able to take a joke.
This came out when i was in High School... EVERYONE mocked there best sayings for months lol including myself unfortunately
same here. it also brought Bohemian Rhapsody back into the main stream...
A classic!!!! I heard that Mike Myers was really hard to work with because he was a perfectionist with his vision.
Tia is Hawaiian playing a Hong Kong girl - not a Brit, although Hong Kong was a colony at the time. We were doing "That's what SHE said" back in the '70s - and Graucho Marx in the '40s. Wayne's World 2 is necessary now!
Fun fact: Dana Carvey (Garth) really played the drums in the music store scene.
Wayne's world ROCKS!!
Meyers based his Wayne Character on various people he grew up with in Scarborough, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
love your reactions keep it up
mockumentary - This is Spinal Tap. Started the genre
LIVE IN THE NOOOWWWW!😂😂😂 they used to call me Garth back in high-school LOL we had a lot in common. I'm happy you enjoyed this
Another great film with Tia Carrera (the babe) is True Lies, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.
