- In film production, the table read may be as important as auditioning. Director Russ Parr sat down with Roshon Fegan and Adrian Marcel to read-through one of the films most important scenes and relationships. Visit tvone.tv/ for more.
I think they should've just done a movie on the whole DeBarge family but I am looking forward to seeing this.
I agree bro and that's how I felt because people had high expectations on their family since the industry was pushing them to be the next Jackson 5 just like how new edition was when they were kids making teen pop music also know as bubble gum pop but as far as Bobby debarge goes I personally feel like he didn't get his just due enough since switch didn't last that long but the years that they was together made a lot of hits and I feel like with this film will hopefully disect his whole life and not overshadow his siblings Debarge group since he was the first musician in his family to make it first.
Agreed!
JayLa76, That would be a mini series.
I think so too.
It’s like with New Edition. The Bobby Brown Story was a whole other chapter that needed its own separate mini-series. And to be honest, they owe Johnny Gill equally for his own story to be told.
I actually liked the “table read” better than the actual performance. Great job Adrian Marcel!
I was just about to say the same!! Thank you for sharing how things come together!! TVOne💖
Adrian did a great job in both the table read and the actual footage. Hair & Makeup should've been better and they couldve given Roshon an acting coach. This really would've been good if it was a Debarge family story bc all of them have tremendous stories.
I did too!!!🤣🤣🤣
Because it *issssss* better.
The table read almost got me. It’s almost as if the director changed his mind on the set and said, “Bobby, the table read was good but can you give me a little bit more Urkle this time and less Debarge”. Smh 😂
Maybe they should have used man weave instead of the wig.
I agree... it looks bad and shiny
Yes the WIGS look crazy lol
Yes the wigs look bad it’s almost hard to take them serious with those wigs on
@@peppermintpattie6006 LOOK LIKE A DAMN MOPHEAD!
Yes cause that's a mess!
Bobby tormented James because they're father did the same to him!
Exactly......he needed a release and James was it for him. How many men can cope with the fact that their own father was having sex with them?
Baby, exactly. That's so tragic. It's funny I don't have any children but let me tell you my truth, God knows I love hard, once my abusive ex told me he'd hit my cat, Lucky. I told him point blank if he wanted to leave out the door the way he came in and if he wanted to live I'd think twice about hitting him. So, you know if I can love a cat that much you can only imagine I'd die for my kids. No man can live with me and I have knowledge he's abusing my kids, dude would be six feet under, no lie.
Where was child protective services..if he was abusing all the kids.why was help not called...I wonder how old he was when the abuse started happening....They had family concerns long before they found fame and.fortune....hope everyone is ok today.. Got healing and Deliverance for themselves..found Forgiveness for their Dad who was not Mentally well.. He needed Deliverance and Healing Himself.. Some times Abused People abuse other people and need Healing and Deliverance from God to break the pattern of Continuance.
Jamal Soward Bobby tormented James because their father loved him the most. James was his favorite because he looked like their father’s brother.
@@texascreoleshani3725
No disrespect but I don't know about all of that, I think Jamal has a better understanding regarding the abuse.
Their father was a terrible and extremely abusive man! So sad what that family went through. All of them were abused!💔
Yep. Bobby got it the worse.
:( yeah I want to watch the whole thing but it reminds me of my own family too much
@@lainimoreno Sorry for your family pain L Moreno. I know the feeling. They try to tell us slavery didn't hurt us but throwing us all together in a hut and raping us, and making us have sex with anyone messed us up for a long time. Some of the ones who marry just as twisted white men make it even worse. A few are still letting those sex demons drive them.
@@rowenaandrews2571 I hear what you're saying. In the Debarge case, their father was White.
L Moreno I'm so sorry to hear that. God bless you!
They went straight to the synthetic discount section of the beauty supply store for these wigs lol
Lmao😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
look it takes a lot of money to get a project done so unless you have millions you have to cut corners
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤗🤗
These wigs are hilarious my G....
They always fuck up on the hair LoL
They sure do cause DeBarge has that god Indian like hair
Who cares damn!!
What the hell, did they have a wig budget?!!
Yea... whoever did that needs to be fired ASAP
Man these are some talented brothers. I felt James at the table read.
Evan Ross would have been great playing Bobby Debarge their facial features are uncanny.
OMG yess and he sings as well
@@kiabeetv9784 ikr! Totally agree👍
Now I agree with that!👏🏽
L. G. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't see it...
El speaks so lovingly of Bobby and how he supported and encouraged him. Interesting family dynamics
I liked the table read and the performance but I'm leaning towards the read being a tad better. These guys are great actors. I always say there's no race on earth that can act better than Black folks, we "act" every day, if not, this whole country would be under siege.
However, I must admit I had tears running down my eyes on both scenes because I have some knowledge of the DeBarges enormous tragedies, and coming from the same background the tears flowed rampantly down my face, realizing each member of this family have had to face domestic violence, physical, mental and sexual abuse, incarceration, drug abuse, and probably a lot more. My heart goes out to each and every family member.
They got James DeBarge looking like Guido from Vampire in Brooklyn👀😂
Lmao "don't move John Shaft or I'll blow a hole in your afro!"
Damn got'em lol I'm dead
@@Righteousone18 now I want to watch Vampire in Brooklyn tonight 😄😂

@@BatmanPops it got bad reviews when it came out, but it's a classic
Damn.....this is some powerful stuff. Their father tore that family into pieces with the evil he did.
Oh yeah! Their daddy was a whole fool!!
The entire DeBarge family needs its own mini series. I am a huge fan of their music.
These actors are actually good but the production and styling looks cheap
This scene isn’t really accurate it’s not saying what Bobby REALLY did to James.
IAmAirion what did he really do to him? I’m not familiar with them.
@@ertfgghhhh Bobby was a monster, but his dad also was a monster and Bobby was his dads mirror. I also say that the mother was a monster cuz she co-signed on her husband's shyt.
@@vaubanschwarzwald3058 i dont agree that she cosigned. She checked out to cope. Lived in denial. He was abusing her too.
It saddens me deeply.
@TAKAboom'sROOM yes. Dialogue about sibling rape and sibling incest is never talked about
If you watched Unsung Debarge you would see what Bobby did to James.
Everyone of these actors have naturally wavy and curly hair they should have had them grow their own hair out
K believe facts
No, that's how they use to look back in the day. Late 70s and early 89s. Bobby's hair always looked like that when he was high.
Ceylon okay but that hair looks wiggy. We know Bobby had a fro but it didn’t look like what they are portraying
Maybe They didn’t have time to grow out their hair before filming? Maybe they were filming something else and they couldn’t? I don’t know but the wigs were definitely sad; Bobby had his hair laid when he was on stage and before the cameras.
Ceylon why don’t people realize that though I’m tired of the wig references and stupid jokes
The Debarge family should spend an entire season in the Iyanla house. It should be a reality show specifically for this family. It should include ministers, AA, NA, and deep therapy. It should include guest drs like Dr. Jenn and Dr. Drew. They should have sponsors, also. It would help others, as well. They need some healing and they deserve to have it. God's blessings to this family 🙏❤
I co-sign on that........brilliant idea.
Dr drew life changes TV show!.
Chene MC 🙁They did Dr. Drew or Dr. Phil or both. They were ALL molested by their father or each other. They all had (or still have) major drug problems

They Should've Let BET Do This Movie.
hell to tha nooooooooooo! BET sucks at every movie and series they try to do>>>> so glad they finally got TYLER PERRY to help them

Nah seem x that's how they look back in the late 70s. Those hairstyles was actually the look during that time.
get over the wigs already
@@kingdomthinker9794 Exactly. They have to realize that's how they looked back in the day.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You got to be kidding.! You really didnt know that's how the Debarge hair style REALLy was when they were in their PRIME of show biz ..They had hair to kill you with ,,,Look at their album covers and their tv performances Pics in mags..Thats how that family hair really was .... I really miss not having them out on the road performing them amazing songs..But all them have taking a turn for the worst (drugs cooked them.). They were the most amazing family act and had the most beautiful songs..I got to see them at a Luther Vandross show. They stole it from Luther when they got to perform...lol
This scene was actually very sad. Bobby had a beautiful voice but he was very troubled because of his horrible father smh. I think that maybe if his father wasn't so bad he would still be around today.
Adrian Marcel could literally pass as a Debarge.
Wow that table read was intense. I just wish the actual performance was like that. It would of made for some painful but necessary dialogue.
This is Unsung coming to life..👍
Could Mr. Parr not have provided a better wig for the actor portraying Bobby?
I know right?!?
Look if you was born back then especially in the late 70s that's how their hair was back then.
@@daradiant1 No it wasn't 😂😂😂
I got better wigs laying on my vanity .the acting was not good . actor portrayed bobby was over exaggerated.made him stupid acting poor acting. He may be good but directed wrong

Can't wait ! The actor playing James is good
DAMN Adrian killed it! I felt that...
Me too
Back in the 1970's , specifically '78, while listening to the radio, I heard this miraculous song titled : " There'll never be." And while listening, I'm thinking to Myself, who are these guys ? Finding out later, That The group was named ( Switch ) , I was amazed, at the style, And the swag, That They Posessed, as One of the most phenomenal, groups, in the entertainment world. The Debarge Family, had their share of traumas, difficulties, And trials. But in reality, they will Always be second to none.
My favorite part of the movie definitely brought tears to my eyes they both nailed thepart great job 👍🏽🙏🏾
Russ Parr!! The radio man himself! I remember you on the airwaves in LA back in the day.
Me too, Bob and Jimmy!!!!
Hell, that budget was tight judgeing from those dollar store wigs😂😂😂
Russ Parr 👍🏽
That scene is one of the deepest and saddest I've seen, it's a good movie in all honesty ❤😥
When I heard Adrian Marcel 😃. I’ve watched both of them before. And it’s interesting how Bobby dated La Toya and James married Janet.
U think Bobby hit it?
@@schantieriathomas5644 I get a feeling Bobby would not spend time with a woman who was not. She says there was no sex with Jack Gordon.

Wow...good shit i felt that scene ..acting isnt easy as people think...your kadince has to be on point
I can't wait to see the Bobby Debarge story...his group Switch was a big deal when I was growing up....
Amazing movie & everyone did a phenomenal job portraying their characters!👌
Ok y'all...I know a good lace front can be expensive, but I could have directed y'all to some of these online retailers where you can get a "decent" one for under $250! These wigs are horrible!
Very horrible
Man it look like a Dave Chappelle skit with them wigs on sorry, but the acting looks good.
This actually looks like it’s going to be good. Adrian Marcel did a great job ❤️
This movie is based on the book by Thomas DeBarge, "They'll Never Be"
Oh really?
Oh really?
I was wondering how he did the movie without consulting the family
@@TheMyshine09 Bobby Debarge's wife Teri is an Executive Producer of the movie. The Debarge family is not involved.
Yansa Toussaint she is the best person to consult about his story ... because she told it exactly like it was
I can't wait to see this movie. This family's situation has always been on my heart.
Next they should do the Sylvers🙌🎯
They did an unsung
Ron Robinson I agree. The Sylvers Unsung did not tell the complete truth.
Dayum their practice performance pulled me in...can't wait to see
I’m sooo mad at those wigs.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this, because I saw the UNSung which I'm a fan of the show, I can see TVOne doing what BET did with the New Edition and the Bobby Brown Story...The Bobby Debarge/ The Debarge Story or better yet should have just did a title simply called DEBARGE where it includes all their stories make it a 3-4 part series, just a thought 😘
Everyone talking about the wigs look cheap, hell that's how they wore their hair back in the day, go Google some images, that shit look spot on, also people blaming the mom for staying, she was black in 50's getting her ass kicked by a white man, no one would believe her, please people have some critical thinking skills, where the hell was the mom gonna go......with 10 kids.....
I just finished watching the Bobby Debarge story, and they killed this scene. Brought me to tears, when Bobby started to realize why James was hurting.
Did it come on last night on TV one?
James said he was abused he didnt mention sexual but it was
They killed it... hands DOWN‼️‼️‼️‼️
Excellent...I'm excited to watch it. It doesn't hurt that I get excited at the mention of Janet's name 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Omg I love Russ Parr! I use to listen to his radio show!!!!
Adrian’s talent never disappoints 💯❗️
Wigs are bad but Im still WATCHING
The DeBarge family does not support this film. Russ Parr seemed to have taken alot of licenses and did not respect the family enough to get their approval or ask for technical advice for accuracy.
The brothers haven't said anything. It's only the mother and Bunny. The family isn't on the same page. El Debarge, said two his brothers came after him with a machete. He said his family is full of jealousy, thievery, and backstabbing. Bobby's wife is one of the executive producers of the movie.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 passion in the pain.
Praying that his spirit is at rest.

Love how they got into character, hell I felt high with Bobby🤪 Damn then James brought that damn pain😣😭😭😨🤭👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

He used to play football!
🗣Who got these auntie wigs?!?!!!
Church lady style lol 😂😂 😂
Neh-Bih Sangbong 😂😂😂😂😂 Right. These the wigs they use for the church play when the budget is $5.
I am a HUGE DEBARGE FAN SINCE I WAS 9YEARS OLD! First off, this movie only left questions in fans mind. They only told certain things.. This story should have be a three part story because the DeBarge family actually had ALOT more going on and ALOT of good coming out.. This story didn't come out the way I wished it would have. Those wigs... HORRIBLE! THEY HAD RANDY WITH LONG HAIR AND HE DIDN'T START OUT THAT WAY.. Randy's hair didn't get long until The time will reveal all album. Mark hair was long but at length.. I appreciate that. TV One wanted to tell their story but, its is not half of the story.... There's more! So much more!
Very talented family, I read a interview where Mom DeBarge said Bobby had more talent in his little finger than his sister and brothers. I wasn't there but glad someone wanted to do this movie. Whoever picked the wigs for this project should not pass Go and not collect $200 or any other amount
Buddy on the right pretty tough wit the flow doe B ("Bobby")
Those wigs.😔
Some good acting here!!
James had a ponytail too and Bobby's fro looked way better
That look like Cole's Mama from Martin in the thumbnail😂😂😂😂
Russ Parr did it again. I can't wait to see it
Kevin Craddock yes he destroyed the movie with his choice of actors; the bad wigs, cheap production, inadequate research, wack dialogue; over emphasis on drug use; poor character development; poorly written script, blame game on why fans didn’t like the movie. No Russ Parr your poor directing skills is the reason Bobby’s fans didn’t like the movie.

Ok I'll admit the first trailer for this film I didn't take seriously with the choice of song they used but seeing this scene makes me have a change of mind.
I can't wait to see this! My aunts loved Switch when I was little but I was too little to know anything about them. I grew up when young girls couldn't decide between El Debarge and Michael.😁 I did learn more about what happened to the family on Unsung, but, I think this story is going to help put the pieces together.

They should have hired actors whose real hair was like Debarge. Audition some unknowns that look the part.
Im not gonna lie the rehearsal look more real the actual filming 😳 maybe it's just me
I find it hard to believe that James stood up to Bobby like that.

You didn't even notify the family as stated by Bunny De Barge in an interview she did called The Exclusive with Bunny De Barge-Knight of the world Famous De Barge Family a RUclips video anyone can find if u look for it. I'm not a sh** starter Russ I just wanted to know as a person that highly respect this legendary family why the siblings or mom wasn't even notified or even ask out of respect can I have the honor of doing this legend’s life story👎 your family? I'm just saying if your going do a living or once living person’s story respect the living family members just out of respect like Kandi of Xscape said to Jermaine Dupri how u going to do my story without notifying me? People always have something to say about others situations....There mother was a 17 year old girl who married a man who loved her regardless of his color in the 50s....No one intentionally marries a monster...Pregnant every year a bunch of babies and no life skills. She eventually left him after 15 years but the damage had been done especially to the older children.. Drugs, sex, food are tools people use to self medicate and not deal with pain. This family like so many need extensive therapy and rehabilitation to overcome their mental demons and live a somewhat normal life

Russ Parr looks like lightskin Forrest Whitaker
I love James DeBarge. He is so handsome. 😊
That. Moved my soul I felt that. The read not the movie

Keepin it real, this looks corny as fuk, but I love the Debarge family, Especially Bobby, El and Bunny (I own all 5 of the original release Switch Albums with Bobby, and the one without 😔, and all of the Debarge Albums, including the 1st one without James) You and I and Over and Over again are my favorite Switch/Bobby Debarge songs. And that's the reason why I'll watch this movie, because Bobby Debarge was an unreal talent and El was Almost as Bad, Queen of my Heart, All this Love and Love me in a special way.
