Well, that explains why Robot Spongebob got those inflatable muscles after the first phase of the fight. I remember seeing commercials for this game as a kid and it even showed a clip from this part of the boss. Even when the game was released, commercials were still showing this part and I was always wondering what I was doing wrong to not unlock that part of the boss lol
A good way to tell whether a finished game is good is if it had cut content. That way, you'll know the developers were working their asses off on the game so much they couldn't fit all their ideas into it. BFBB is an amazing game in general, on top of being the best SpongeBob game ever developed. Big props to Heavy Iron Studios. :D

I love how the unused content and glitches are, to this day, still being explored. If only this game had a larger community, we'd have every mysterious unused thing working amazingly!
Two theories why the Musclebob boss was cut: 1. They started working on a Musclebob boss battle, but later on felt that Spongebob's karate gear was more recognizable and iconic, so they stopped work on Musclebob to create a boss battle they felt would be more representative of Spongebob. 2. Musclebob looks downright terrifying at times, especially when his arms are thin. The developers may have been afraid that Musclebob would've given kids nightmares, or they received unanimous negative feedback for this boss battle when they did focus group testing, and went back to the drawing board accordingly.
Actually, I think this boss was supposed to appear after Spongebob destroyed the fuses Inside the robot's brain... Witch would explain why the Robot looks dizzy here.Maybe they just cut it out because the simply didn't have enough time to finish it...Or maybe because a 3rd phase would have been too long after the climax Inside the Robot...Who knows...
Meanwhile in June 21 2020 2 Days before the rehydrated version, We realize that this unused boss is just an island in multiplayer mode. Really Disappointing :(
It's not the unused boss who is there, it's the spongebot when he gets muscles before entering inside him, or else he would be with the underwear he uses here.

If that’s the case, I hope they finally include Robot Squidward as a boss and Squidward as a playable character. I remember the Gameboy Edition, Robot Squidward was my favorite boss fight.

I mean, it's A LOT smaller than his first form, and the rocket legs are completely gone along with the nine energy generators....does he magically shrink and change its outfit via henshin-style or something? And god damn, as if I didn't have enough nightmares about these damn robots when I was a kid....these animations I admit are very freaky and intimidating...

Adventure Master 18 Thanks. Unfortunately the Squidward boss only got as far as the concept table, so there's nothing to work with. I did do a little research and found out that he was supposed to be the final boss, or at least the third.
I honestly wondered if it could be recreated. Or remake it. Though we already finely got a squidward boss in truth or square. Though do you know if its possible to create and import models or sound effects into a gamecube iso. BTW are you excited for the bfbb fan remake by Jacob?
Adventure Master 18 There is a tool called Renderware Graphics used mostly by Grand Theft Auto modders for modeling (some GTA games use the same engine as BFBB). Perhaps we can use that to make compatible models, or maybe convert the ones in the game for use elsewhere (like a remake). And yes, I'm excited for that remake. It's what got me back to BFBB again.
George Mastrapa hmm... reimporting a squidward boss that looks like from the concept art. how it should work out: buttons are at each corner of the level. after you cruise bubble to stun robot squidward you press the button and something should smash down on one of his tentacles and after that 1 will fall off.
I have a game called "jimmy neutron: jet fusion" and in the game there is an extras menu with trailers for new games and one was this game And for one second of the trailer it showed this boss.
I could sorta see the Musclebob boss working as more of a "third phase" than a second phase boss as everyone seems to speculate. Like after it knocks SpongeBob and Robo-Plankton out of it's head, the thing goes goes crazy, loses its pants(cause why not), and your made to use all the playable characters one last time to take him out; using each one's respective range attack to deflate his arms then hoping on the larger pieces of debris to go over his deflated arms and damage it from behind somehow- a back button maybe?
As much as I love seeing this i have to say that there is 1 beta unfinished level that i would love to see 100 percent done. And that is the... unused Patrick's dream level
My theory for this fight: after the first phase of the SpongeBot fight Patrick would have to join in as SpongeBot takes another form. The player would automatically turn into Patrick and would be transported to the Area where this leftover fight takes place. here the player would have to avoid SpongeBot‘s arms and then throw some of the leftover rubble pieces at their weak spot. then As shown in this video that arm that the opponent threw the Rubble at Would deflate then SpongeBot would use his stomp ability. The player would either have to jump over it or get far away from the robot in order to avoid the move. Patrick would then have to deflate the other arm in order to progress. After doing so this is as far as this video gets us to show what this Bossfight was able to do. my theory on what would happen next is that Patrick would have to avoid the other moves then throw a piece of rubble at SpongeBot’s face. Possibly shattering one of his eyes this may be the end of the fight from my theory and the broken eye might have been the way SpongeBob was originally going to get into the robots head. as seen in this video the stomp attack did not do any damage. this is possibly because of the fact that this boss was cut and the developers were never able to implement damage into the stomp move. there were also no noises from when one of the arms were deflated. this Bossfight must’ve been cut before new noises were made into the game for this fight. another thing is when the player in the video hit SpongeBot’s face with the pieces of rubble nothing actually happened. this may have been because no damage or animations were made when SpongeBot’s face was supposed to be hit. or maybe my theory is incorrect and SpongeBot’s face was never meant to be hit. The reason I think that this fight would take place before SpongeBob goes inside the robots head is because in the actual finished game we see the robot arms inflate as shown in this video before SpongeBob enters the head. After the muscle fight SpongeBob would then be forced to turn back to normal either commanded by the robot plankton or by himself this is when SpongeBob would go into the robots head and thus the final phase would commence. remember this is only my theory there are many things that are most likely wrong. this is just how I think this fight would have gone down if this was actually put into the final game.

This fight was way to easy, unless they made it more complex and made him have more unique things about him, this would have made the fight way more boring.

+Chris Actually The WAS a Squidbot boss fight in the GBA version, However, as far as the concept in the theatre, the Squidwardbot Fight of that stature was eventually integrated into the the console version of Truth or Square.
I can see why this was scrapped. Firstly, the developers quickly ran out of ideas after both the hands are destroyed, as the boss has no AI changes after they are destroyed. Next, many of the attacks seem either too easy or way too difficult to avoid. For example, the hit for not destroying one of the arms fast enough takes so long to trigger it renders it almost pointless. The Stomp, however, seems unavoidable as it is right now. These are just some of my theories on why the boss was scrapped.
I think it's that it was started way to late in development. This build of the boss was from August of 2003, and you can see that it isn't even close to being final.

Oh god you 2 are TERRIBLY wrong. It's not a "Beta" And it's not broken. It's Uncut. Unused. The GAME DEVELOPERS made this, and they cut it because they didn't like the idea.
If there's ever an HD Remaster of this game (and there should be), they should add every single unused asset from the beta of this game and work it into the remaster, and with all this new hardware at their disposal, they've no excuse not to. ^_^. EDIT 8/14/19: Told y'all. ;)
I've always wondered what happened to this boss, I remember seeing it in the trailer along with an unused boss where you fight RoboBob Steelpants wielding a spatula on a grill (not sure if that actually made it in, never played the game myself)
I guess Spongebot was supposed to have three phases but got cut to two for time constraints. That also explains why Plankton-bot repairs Spongebot with those arms too! You'd probably had to knock Spongebot out in this form before entering it's interiors. Great find btw, glad to finally see that in action!!

It would be so cool if Spongebob had his fight with his Karate form, Patrick had a fight with the muscle arm form, and Sandy had a fight with the Jellyfish catcher form!
I think what we got in the final game as a second phase was the Sandy phase. She is the most agile of the three, so her phase being more platforming based makes sense.
This boss is... unsettling. the way it erraticly moves and flails around... this thing would have terrified my 10 year old self when i got the game all those years ago.

I think this fight was originally gonna be like the egg golem fight from SA2, where you would have to disable both of the arms so that you could climb up the arms, and maybe there was gonna be a button on the back that would damage the robot.
I saw this boss in a trailer, But when I played it the boss wasn’t there. I’m kinda curious to why it was removed in the first place. One possibility is that maybe the devs thought this phase was unneeded or that they couldn’t think of anything to go with it.
I assume the boss cannot actually be beaten? Judging by the shockwaves from its stomp attack not being able to hurt you, and the fact that some sound effects appear to be missing from it's attacks, I currently think that's the case.
Yes, apparently it cannot be defeated. After destroying the arms, there doesn't seem to be anything else to. His upper head can be targeted with the cruise bubble, but nothing happens. Unfinished, but playable.

I suppose how this was going to work was you would deflate both arms and that would reveal a weak spot that you would throw rocks at, then he would re-inflate his arms then rinse repeat for a certain amount of times. His attacks could’ve been the stomping, trying to squash the player with his arms (when inflated) and maybe trying to throw a giant anchor like Spongebob did in the show.
It made it THIS far into development. Even in trailers. And yet Purple Lamp didn't bring it back when all it was missing was cutscenes related to it. Sucks, man. :(
This is very eerie..The fact that he has no sounds makes it worse. Very interesting! But He was already a creepy boss for me. Especially the KAH- RAH-TEH part freaked me out, an annoyed me severely. I like it though. It's just a creepy mystery for me. The fight was probably cut because of how simple it was compared to the other robots, and especially compared to his first and second fight with Spongebob. Patrick is obviously supposed to be much much smaller. The arena shrunk too. It was much bigger for Spongebob's battle. But why is Mr. Krabs standing there? Did I miss something, or did he have a cut scene that was removed?

The idea I had was this: We create a new meter to hold 5 (2, 1 and 2) and script it to work. Then, script Spongebob to be in the Second part. Next, add a target on the back of the boss on the Second part, as well. Finally, code the stomping attack to the Second part and third part, aswell as add stuff to the ground-pound like attack to make the rocks fly and they harm you if you get hit. Defeating boss: Step 1: Have Patrick deflate the arms by picking up a rock and throwing them at the arms. Step 2: Have Spongebob use the Bubble Cruiser to hit the target on the back. Step 3: Repeat Step 1. Edit: I forgot to say to script it to also lead you to the last phase.
How spongebob use the rocket bubble and it shows that its eye is a weak spot. My guess is Phase 1: you play as Patrick to take out the arms and throw a rock at one of the eyes ( that triggers phase 2 Phase 2: get on a floating platform ( that are in all the phases ) as spongebob to ame a rocket bubble at the eyes ( that triggers phase 3 Phase 3: idk you think of something
Phase 1: Possibly what we got in the final game, switches to Phase 2 Phase 2: Patrick throws things at the robot, Switches to Spongebob for the Cruise Bubble, but can't reach all of them. Phase 3: Sandy pulls the plugs on the arms, so Spongebob can get inside to the rest of the weak spots Phase 4: What we got in the final game. Possibly.
What I think the fight would’ve been like: the Spongebob RoboPants fight would’ve had 3 phases. I know it sounds crazy, but I think so. The first phase is already in the game. Obviously. After you beat the first phase, RoboPants gets mad and becomes Spongebob MuscularRoboPants (MRP). The fight is this unused fight. He would have 4 hit points, both his arms and eyes. Once you beat the second phase, the balloon arms fall off, and MRP gets Spongebob’s normal arms, holding a bubble container and a bubble wand, and becoming BubbleRoboPants (BRP). The 3rd phase attacks would be blowing a bubble spear that pokes the platform your player is standing on. gurgling the bubble liquid, spitting it into the sky, and it comes down like the RoboPatrick fight. RoboPlankton’s normal attack. And blowing a bubble train that you run away from. You damage the form by hitting the bottom of the bubble container, that would splash into BRP’s eyes. Once you beat the final phase, He once again becomes just RoboPants, and falls to the ground. He powers back up, and It continues from when the first phase was beaten.
I hope they bring back this boss too, I liked the classic full game boss, tho from a gameplay wise stance, they completely dropped Sandy and patrick, while most bosses in the game from my memory required atleast 2 characters for different phases
It’s super disappointing that rehydrated was rushed just like the original version. The fact that you can see concept art of this boss fight in the game and find untextured models of this boss outside the chum bucket makes me believe that it was at one point gonna be in rehydrated. It’s a shame they didn’t maybe make a DLC or a Update that added this into the game. But who knows, maybe cosmic shake will somehow have it.
when saw the commercial for this video game I saw the muscle bob buff pants boss and when I played the last level I thought wait what I thought I was supposed to face a different sponge bob boss I thought maybe it was for a different station but I guess it was the beta version of the game.
Imagine if this boss was in three stages sandy stage Patrick stage and spongebob stage. Sandy would weaken the robot and make the roof fall in in the process. Patrick does what's shown here and weakens the muscle arms and then spongebob comes in destroys the anchor arms for good and delivers the final blow. Imagine if that was what actually in the game it would be awesome
I know this is years ago but I swear to God I killed this boss on my version of the game. On the version I had, iirc, after I killed the flying Karate Spongebob, everyone thought he was dead, but winded up coming back to life and detached his arms and the muscle arms expanded out instead and his jet feet turnt into actual legs.
I think I'm actually kind of glad they didn't use this boss in the finale, the Robot Spongebob Boss was long enough as it is. It was also really fun, but if they were going to remove this boss, why didn't they remove the Muscle Arms Cutscene? It brought nothing and was just random. It did however set the platforms in the robot upright, and it was funny with the dialogue that came in that cutscene.

I think this phase was going to be with Patrick and Sandy fighting the robot on the outside, while SpongeBob is inside the robot's head.
I believe originally you weren't supposed to go inside the robot's head, and idk about Sandy being in it, but yeah.

I know this is unfinished, but it's actually really terrifying. Although, it seems like a fun boss and I would love to play it in an HD remake.

Adventure Master 18 Thanks. Unfortunately the Squidward boss only got as far as the concept table, so there's nothing to work with. I did do a little research and found out that he was supposed to be the final boss, or at least the third.
I honestly wondered if it could be recreated. Or remake it. Though we already finely got a squidward boss in truth or square. Though do you know if its possible to create and import models or sound effects into a gamecube iso. BTW are you excited for the bfbb fan remake by Jacob?
Adventure Master 18 There is a tool called Renderware Graphics used mostly by Grand Theft Auto modders for modeling (some GTA games use the same engine as BFBB). Perhaps we can use that to make compatible models, or maybe convert the ones in the game for use elsewhere (like a remake). And yes, I'm excited for that remake. It's what got me back to BFBB again.
George Mastrapa hmm... reimporting a squidward boss that looks like from the concept art. how it should work out: buttons are at each corner of the level. after you cruise bubble to stun robot squidward you press the button and something should smash down on one of his tentacles and after that 1 will fall off.

And for one second of the trailer it showed this boss.
I could sorta see the Musclebob boss working as more of a "third phase" than a second phase boss as everyone seems to speculate. Like after it knocks SpongeBob and Robo-Plankton out of it's head, the thing goes goes crazy, loses its pants(cause why not), and your made to use all the playable characters one last time to take him out; using each one's respective range attack to deflate his arms then hoping on the larger pieces of debris to go over his deflated arms and damage it from behind somehow- a back button maybe?
As much as I love seeing this i have to say that there is 1 beta unfinished level that i would love to see 100 percent done. And that is the...
unused Patrick's dream level
My theory for this fight: after the first phase of the SpongeBot fight Patrick would have to join in as SpongeBot takes another form. The player would automatically turn into Patrick and would be transported to the Area where this leftover fight takes place. here the player would have to avoid SpongeBot‘s arms and then throw some of the leftover rubble pieces at their weak spot. then As shown in this video that arm that the opponent threw the Rubble at Would deflate then SpongeBot would use his stomp ability. The player would either have to jump over it or get far away from the robot in order to avoid the move. Patrick would then have to deflate the other arm in order to progress. After doing so this is as far as this video gets us to show what this Bossfight was able to do. my theory on what would happen next is that Patrick would have to avoid the other moves then throw a piece of rubble at SpongeBot’s face. Possibly shattering one of his eyes this may be the end of the fight from my theory and the broken eye might have been the way SpongeBob was originally going to get into the robots head. as seen in this video the stomp attack did not do any damage. this is possibly because of the fact that this boss was cut and the developers were never able to implement damage into the stomp move. there were also no noises from when one of the arms were deflated. this Bossfight must’ve been cut before new noises were made into the game for this fight. another thing is when the player in the video hit SpongeBot’s face with the pieces of rubble nothing actually happened. this may have been because no damage or animations were made when SpongeBot’s face was supposed to be hit. or maybe my theory is incorrect and SpongeBot’s face was never meant to be hit. The reason I think that this fight would take place before SpongeBob goes inside the robots head is because in the actual finished game we see the robot arms inflate as shown in this video before SpongeBob enters the head. After the muscle fight SpongeBob would then be forced to turn back to normal either commanded by the robot plankton or by himself this is when SpongeBob would go into the robots head and thus the final phase would commence.
remember this is only my theory there are many things that are most likely wrong. this is just how I think this fight would have gone down if this was actually put into the final game.

The WAS a Squidbot boss fight in the GBA version, However, as far as the concept in the theatre, the Squidwardbot Fight of that stature was eventually integrated into the the console version of Truth or Square.

I can see why this was scrapped.
Firstly, the developers quickly ran out of ideas after both the hands are destroyed, as the boss has no AI changes after they are destroyed. Next, many of the attacks seem either too easy or way too difficult to avoid. For example, the hit for not destroying one of the arms fast enough takes so long to trigger it renders it almost pointless. The Stomp, however, seems unavoidable as it is right now. These are just some of my theories on why the boss was scrapped.

I think it's that it was started way to late in development. This build of the boss was from August of 2003, and you can see that it isn't even close to being final.

I've always wondered what happened to this boss, I remember seeing it in the trailer along with an unused boss where you fight RoboBob Steelpants wielding a spatula on a grill (not sure if that actually made it in, never played the game myself)
I guess Spongebot was supposed to have three phases but got cut to two for time constraints. That also explains why Plankton-bot repairs Spongebot with those arms too! You'd probably had to knock Spongebot out in this form before entering it's interiors.

I think what we got in the final game as a second phase was the Sandy phase. She is the most agile of the three, so her phase being more platforming based makes sense.

I think this fight was originally gonna be like the egg golem fight from SA2, where you would have to disable both of the arms so that you could climb up the arms, and maybe there was gonna be a button on the back that would damage the robot.

I saw this boss in a trailer, But when I played it the boss wasn’t there. I’m kinda curious to why it was removed in the first place. One possibility is that maybe the devs thought this phase was unneeded or that they couldn’t think of anything to go with it.
I assume the boss cannot actually be beaten? Judging by the shockwaves from its stomp attack not being able to hurt you, and the fact that some sound effects appear to be missing from it's attacks, I currently think that's the case.
Yes, apparently it cannot be defeated. After destroying the arms, there doesn't seem to be anything else to. His upper head can be targeted with the cruise bubble, but nothing happens. Unfinished, but playable.

I suppose how this was going to work was you would deflate both arms and that would reveal a weak spot that you would throw rocks at, then he would re-inflate his arms then rinse repeat for a certain amount of times. His attacks could’ve been the stomping, trying to squash the player with his arms (when inflated) and maybe trying to throw a giant anchor like Spongebob did in the show.

This is very eerie..The fact that he has no sounds makes it worse. Very interesting! But He was already a creepy boss for me. Especially the KAH- RAH-TEH part freaked me out, an annoyed me severely. I like it though. It's just a creepy mystery for me. The fight was probably cut because of how simple it was compared to the other robots, and especially compared to his first and second fight with Spongebob. Patrick is obviously supposed to be much much smaller. The arena shrunk too. It was much bigger for Spongebob's battle. But why is Mr. Krabs standing there? Did I miss something, or did he have a cut scene that was removed?

you don't know how long i've waited to see this
The idea I had was this: We create a new meter to hold 5 (2, 1 and 2) and script it to work. Then, script Spongebob to be in the Second part. Next, add a target on the back of the boss on the Second part, as well. Finally, code the stomping attack to the Second part and third part, aswell as add stuff to the ground-pound like attack to make the rocks fly and they harm you if you get hit.
Defeating boss:
Step 1: Have Patrick deflate the arms by picking up a rock and throwing them at the arms.
Step 2: Have Spongebob use the Bubble Cruiser to hit the target on the back.
Step 3: Repeat Step 1.
Edit: I forgot to say to script it to also lead you to the last phase.
Ohhhh, so this is why Patrick had one less stage then Sandy. He was supposed to be used in the Final Boss.

How spongebob use the rocket bubble and it shows that its eye is a weak spot. My guess is
Phase 1: you play as Patrick to take out the arms and throw a rock at one of the eyes ( that triggers phase 2
Phase 2: get on a floating platform ( that are in all the phases ) as spongebob to ame a rocket bubble at the eyes ( that triggers phase 3
Phase 3: idk you think of something
Phase 1: Possibly what we got in the final game, switches to Phase 2
Phase 2: Patrick throws things at the robot, Switches to Spongebob for the Cruise Bubble, but can't reach all of them.
Phase 3: Sandy pulls the plugs on the arms, so Spongebob can get inside to the rest of the weak spots
Phase 4: What we got in the final game.

What I think the fight would’ve been like: the Spongebob RoboPants fight would’ve had 3 phases. I know it sounds crazy, but I think so.
The first phase is already in the game. Obviously.
After you beat the first phase, RoboPants gets mad and becomes Spongebob MuscularRoboPants (MRP). The fight is this unused fight. He would have 4 hit points, both his arms and eyes.
Once you beat the second phase, the balloon arms fall off, and MRP gets Spongebob’s normal arms, holding a bubble container and a bubble wand, and becoming BubbleRoboPants (BRP). The 3rd phase attacks would be blowing a bubble spear that pokes the platform your player is standing on. gurgling the bubble liquid, spitting it into the sky, and it comes down like the RoboPatrick fight. RoboPlankton’s normal attack. And blowing a bubble train that you run away from. You damage the form by hitting the bottom of the bubble container, that would splash into BRP’s eyes. Once you beat the final phase, He once again becomes just RoboPants, and falls to the ground. He powers back up, and It continues from when the first phase was beaten.

It’s super disappointing that rehydrated was rushed just like the original version. The fact that you can see concept art of this boss fight in the game and find untextured models of this boss outside the chum bucket makes me believe that it was at one point gonna be in rehydrated. It’s a shame they didn’t maybe make a DLC or a Update that added this into the game. But who knows, maybe cosmic shake will somehow have it.

when saw the commercial for this video game I saw the muscle bob buff pants boss and when I played the last level I thought wait what I thought I was supposed to face a different sponge bob boss I thought maybe it was for a different station but I guess it was the beta version of the game.

Imagine if this boss was in three stages sandy stage Patrick stage and spongebob stage. Sandy would weaken the robot and make the roof fall in in the process. Patrick does what's shown here and weakens the muscle arms and then spongebob comes in destroys the anchor arms for good and delivers the final blow. Imagine if that was what actually in the game it would be awesome

I know this is years ago but I swear to God I killed this boss on my version of the game. On the version I had, iirc, after I killed the flying Karate Spongebob, everyone thought he was dead, but winded up coming back to life and detached his arms and the muscle arms expanded out instead and his jet feet turnt into actual legs.
I think I'm actually kind of glad they didn't use this boss in the finale, the Robot Spongebob Boss was long enough as it is. It was also really fun, but if they were going to remove this boss, why didn't they remove the Muscle Arms Cutscene? It brought nothing and was just random. It did however set the platforms in the robot upright, and it was funny with the dialogue that came in that cutscene.
This looks like a better final boss to me, NOW. If this were in the game when I would've played it, I would've been terrified.
