Just got home from the US! What an amazing video. I couldn't explain it better myself. Much love to you and your family. It was great fun watching you build this and learning together as we did :D
This is a very interesting proposition for an ender5 upgrade with a great community behind it. The kits are a very good option, a cost breakdown of different combinations would've been great to see as this looks like it can easily add up and probably price match ready to go option
The core benefit of such an upgrade is that you can buy an already functioning printer, use it for a while, then invest more money into it if you want to. Even if it ends up more expensive than a ready made solution, this ability to see if you will actually be printing that much, and the ability to distribute expenses throughout the lifetime of the printer, can be more valuable.
@p_serdiuk it also extends the life of said components, and makes one less obsolete printer. I'm looking into this build and sourcing a lot of my excess parts in house.
@@p_serdiukI went through this with my ender 5 plus. I managed to learn about different filaments and got a microswiss direct drive but the rest of the machine is lacking and too slow for a few things I'm developing and want to start selling. This is the perfect upgrade to achieve a good production speed and doesn't have the plastic wheels so the print quality should be better too. I played around with a Biqu skr mini e3v3 and put klipper on it but realized to run the trident I need 3 independent stepper drivers for each trident leg and the skr mini has one driver that drives two lead screws. With the skr 3 pro I ordered I can use higher 48 volt powered stepper drivers to run the corexy motors faster 🤔. Cant wait to see how fast I can push this thing.
@@TTS-TPhonestly it's still pretty wasteful 😂. Like you basically throw away the whole ender 5 components and use the 2020 extrusion frame. Even the nice Sheet metal control box is tossed. Would be better to just build your own frame from 2020 extrusions.
This is cool, I might end up buying a ender 5 to convert into one of these. I originally wanted to get another ender 3 and do the switch wire mod on it but this makes more sense to me than converting a ender 3
I have an Ender 5 Plus and love it and hate it at the same time. When it's honed in, prints are great, however after each print I have to tune it up again. I want this kit.
Just bought all the parts for this but I'm going all aluminum even with the hydra arms. Mellow makes an aluminum toolhead for this and also a water cooled extruder that their Goliath hotend hooks into. Also got a fystec lightweight gantry so I want to see how fast I can push this. Starting with a tool head blower fan but it seems running a duct to the tool head with a remote fan can cut even more weight 🤔. They also make milled out linear rails that could reduce even more weight from the gantry.
Thx for the Info, i was about to start the build and modeled an enclosure by myself. Then I hold off until the new models are released. I spend so much time on their discord just to read the infos and showcases
For the cost associated with it, it might make more sense to get a k1 instead. I guess it comes down to if you want a project or a printer that works out of the box. On yours, you should go with a creality sonic pad for the interface. Would also be cool to see the dyze design horizon auto bed leveling sensor on that. It uses the nozzle as the touch probe based on a load cell. No more adjusting z offset after nozzle changes.
So true. I feel like a lot of these projects (starting with Voron) are going to be losing steam and go from a niche to an even finer niche because they'll be losing the crowd that was there for the quality, reliability and speed, since the big manufacturers can finally deliver all three for way less than the cost of any of those kits. Obviously the tinkerers, the tuners and the modders are not going anywhere, but the companies that specialize in catering to this market will definitely be feeling the squeeze.
@Madderall I'm going through that debate now. I've got an ender 5 plus with some mods thinking about going corexy with it but the idea of getting a set it and forget it, good looking, enclosed printer is starting to be appealing.
@@kyleo1236 The 5 plus is a sexy machine, but there's always a chance that after a major overhaul like this some mods won't play nicely with each other blowing your budget, so it's a gamble. I created a custom Mod Max upgrade to get a 310x310 print bed. I’m surprised they don’t do this out of the box. It requires no extra parts (just modified printed parts) other than the larger bed/heater.

Hello @Modbot, word of caution, I have the Manta M5P, with the CB1. It doesn't support screens through the DSI, if you plug one in, it won't power on. You'll need a regular pi to unlock that funtion. I am not sure if an HDMI screen with USB touch input would work as an alternative.
Have not heard of the Murcury1 but I am planning on building a steel frame to get more rigidity and more head space 400 x 400 x 500. But I want to make the bed like the rat rig on balls but I see what you have done and that gave me an idea. Will see what I go with. I like the Rat Rigs way of keeping the bed suspended but I like the some stuff on the Voron . Although it seems my machine seems is going to lean more towards the Rat Rig I would like to add the Tap but I will see if I can incorporate that into The Eva tool head somehow otherwise it will be the Stealth Burner. I might design a completely new tool head or a mix between the two. I have already bought the 30 x 30 Square tubing and I plan on building an enclosure for my Ender 3V2 to print ABS part for Core XY.
Even though I can only admire all the effort has been put in this modification and can say big thanks for the zerog team. Budget RailCore??
If I don’t have an Ender 5, what’s the best coreXY kit to build?
Could I use the micro Swiss ng that can go on a liner rail with the mercury 1.1 or do I have to do a custom tool head
Does Mercury.1 require Eva toolhead? Is it possible to adapt different DD carriage? I've just recently bought microswiss ng and I really don't want to buy another one 😅
Does this work for the Ender 5 S1? Been looking into making this printer CoreXY
Wonder if i can do this with a cr 10 max? It along with most printers seems to just be ender/i3 clones of various sizes anyway.
i have an ender 5 plus that i'm in the middle of rebuilding. it has sat collecting dust since i got my x1 carbon. i'm at an impasse because i can't crimp to save my life.
Are your black toothed idlers 3D printed or did you buy those?
About how many hours do they estimate to do a standard 1.1 update?
Is this mod compatible with Ender 5 S1?
Does this have better features than a voron?
If you don't have an Ender 5 as a starting point would you do this or a voron? or other?
Can I do these upgrades on the 5s1?
They don't even have a listing for the one.1.
This is a great video and has certainly renewed my enthusiasm for my Ender 5 and 5+. I have to say I have struggled to get reliable quality and prints even treating all the basics and levelling until I'm blue in the face. These mods seem to automate a lot of that. I'm at a cross roads. I would like to be able to enclose the frame on at least one of them as I'd like to be able to print ASA and ABS. It seems to be better to build from scratch if you are doing the full Hydra mod. I'm trying to get an idea of the cost of doing this would be grateful if anyone has figures.
I did , Like and subscribe... Great Video. I have a Ender5 Pro with bigTree tech MB and touch display. Love it , works like a champ with no hassle but it's SLOoooW , If i do just the Mecury 1.1 will that get me faster ?
could a voxlab aquilia x2 be converted like that as well ???
No..

Interesting take on Core XY
Thanks for sharing your experiences Good and bad with all of us 🙂
If you upgrade/use a the merc frame, is it even an Ender 5 anymore? Why not just go Voron, Ratrig, or one of the many other already proven DIY printers at that point...
No I did say that if you are going hydra then it makes sense to just get the new frame when it’s out and bypass the Ender all together. It’s a great printer and I love the toolhead.
@@ModBotArmy yeah I guess I'm saying at that point it just makes more sense to go with one of the more proven DIY printers who have a larger community backing them...
i want to buy more printer and consider in rat rig but still over price to me ,when i see this project hydra this shed me up this seem resonable price i am looking for
