Holy balls that's brilliant...
*A1 commenting sir*
Funny. My hair is always in the same exact place when I get done playing . Never worry about it anyway
Love it
Larry Mullen Jr. agrees.
Playing like they double-parked their tour bus.
I’m weak asf🤣🤣
Lmfao! Best comment award goes to you 🏆
Hahahahaha, it took me a while, but then almost died😂😂
The time only seems weird now cuz they are older and not jumping around like lunatics. If you go watch their 90's performances it's almost identical, but they are running around the stage the whole time.
lol
Technique, groove, rudiments, are what all professional drummers have. But sound is unique, that's why I praise him
Yep, sound is in the hands. ✌️
I hope you don't praise his horrible rushing and terrible grasp on tempo and feel....
@@incubrianyou’re saying this about the Jesus Christ pose drummer btw
@@incubrian I've really been working with metrone lately and I notice the band started pulling him faster on the guitar solo and he didn't hold them back. So the chorus at the end of the song is definitely faster than the first chorus. Matt Cameron is solid as a rock but also kinda boring as a rock to me. I do love his drumming in soundgarden some real cool stuff he played with them.
It’s a shame PJ doesn’t do more of what Matt’s strength is IMO...odd time grooves...he churned out amazing odd time grooves with Soundgarden
The “odd” time signature of Soundgarden is partly what made me fall in love with them. They’re so groovy. I was involved in some concert and marching percussion through high school and college, so I thought Soundgardens music was such a breath of fresh air from your standard 4/4 rock songs. Absolutely amazing
Basically all songs Matt writes on guitar have odd playing styles like evacuation and the fixer
It's kinda hard when your lead singer is dead
@@dakotajensen181 What he meant was that he wishes Pearl Jam could make more songs in the style that Matt Cameron was able to do in Soundgarden this had nothing to do with him going back
Matt was a beast in Soundgarden. The more odd the time signature the better.
Gotta admit though, for as fast as this tempo went, Matt's deep in the pocket with flawless fills.
Yeah ikr. Idk why matt gets so much hate. Dave was amazing, but so is matt, they're just different styles of playing
@@zacharyray7166 Yes, its flying - Eddie can barely keep up. he must have a CLICK. Hmmm?
Tempo is off and on
@@zacharyray7166 Matt is way better than Dave any day of the week. And the song is much better fast. 😮
@@poohead8022 The OG Dave that played this on TEN killed it and the live versions just had a better energy .. it was funky, those 16th rolls on the hi hat are sick go back and listen.. this feels rushed and constipated
Matt Cameron probably plays the song at the exact bpm's the guys in the band ask him to play it. Those things are settled well before the gig, so I think it's not Matt's fault but Eddie/Mike asking.
It's not about the bpm but Matt just doesn't have that 'swing' feel or should I say 'funk' feel where Pearl Jam were big because of that style. It is called 'JAM' for reason though. Now when Matt behind the drum PJ sound like KISS. Like 70's rock band. I'm not saying he's a bad drummer, he just doesn't blend with the band. It's like Larry Carlton with Fourplay. The fans loved Lee Ritenour as so the old PJ fans love Dave A. Dave A can fill what empty space in the PJ song. Just listen to this Even Flow version, it felt stiff and cold not funk as like they played long a go with Dave A.
you could be right on that one! .. all in preference i guess
Hey Tribe... just to note. They're all different players than what they were 25 years ago. It is faster than the recorded version. And at a certain point, swing changes with tempo... different feel.
they're probably so fucking bored of playing this song that they get creative by changing things to avoid killing themselves.
And a whole lot o COCAINE ❄️❄️❄️🥴 lol!!! I kid I kid !!!
I wish we could see this perspective on Soundgarden's Jesus Christ Pose.
Kelli Thomerson how about ticks and leeches by tool
Or Like Suicide
Dave's the best.

One of the most consistent drummers out there......and with the best tone. Great player
lmao
Matt Cameron was put on earth to play the drums. Effortless groove, one of the best ever.
Living the life, drummer for Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

Been reading some of the posts around the tempo and thought to weigh in. I've got about 30 years of experience playing drums both in live and studio gigs and experienced both sides of the situation. Sometimes a band will opt to play a song faster simply because it sounds (and feels) better in a live situation than at the original tempo is was recorded. We've also slowed songs down when played live to get a heavier feel as opposed to the original recorded tempo. I fully agree that "in the heat of the moment", tempos can and do get pushed (I'm certainly guilty of this in my gigs at times) but Matt is a seasoned pro; this is no doubt a conscious effort on the band's part to push the tempo. It's actually nice to see they have the freedom to do this since they aren't locked into a click track or sequencer for this song and just playing "live"! It's a good discussion though!
Also a seasoned drummer and 100% agree....Matt is as Professional as it gets!
They do it in a lot of the songs,i think it also depends on the energy in the room..
Crazy coincidence but he played Soundgarden songs at faster tempos live also. Especially “Black Hole Sun” being such a back beat, lazy feeling song, speeding it up really ruined it for me.
William Fotiou for sure. Just strange. Some songs sound good a little pepped up live. Not “Black Hole Sun” though. The songs identity lives within the sludgy tempo.
damn bro. thats crazy but i do t remeber asking
So many great drummers among those 90s alternative rock bands: Cameron, Grohl, Kinney, Chamberlin, Abbruzzese. The list goes on.
Sean Kinney
I'm so glad someone mentioned Sean Kinney, he's so underrated
@Keegan Dunphy
What band?
@@shanesawyer5103 He's the drummer for Alice in Chains
Keegan Dunphy
Oh yeah, he was great. My favorite 90’s drummer is either Jimmy Chamberlin or Matt Cameron (for Soundgarden, not PJ) but there were a lot of great 90’s rock drummers.
1:00 when he hits that crash I feel it on my forehead
😂😂😂
😂
Dude, I’m a guitar player who plays other people’s drums from time to time when they’re left at my house. That’s my relationship to drums and even I know Matt Cameron is unbelievable. Wonderful precision without losing any feel. There’s a lot of Soundgarden songs where he’s doing some pretty tricky things too, always tastefully though. If I had to pick one drummer to build my own super group with I believe it would be MC.
the guy's a complete animal.
On a positive note, I love the sound of his drums, especially the toms.
The cymbals sound pretty good too
facts, i really think the wooden hoops work wonders
A ray ayotte era ( 1992 to 1998 ) ayotte customs made by hand in BC canada. Very sought after drums these days as Ayotte Drums are a shell ( hehe ) of what they used to be quality wise. My dream kit.

Matt Cameron has always been my favorite drummer....met him once in miami in the early days of soundgarden at yesterday today records couldn't have been nicer..great drummer....
Matt's fills are so unique. He has this great habit of throwing in unexpected accents - his tone is also very recognizable. You know immediately when it's matt cameron drumming
Matt Cameron is a great drummer no doubt. However, I have always preferred Abbruzzese with PJ.
He just had a great groove and unique style with his hi hat and splash cymbal accents.
Both excellent drummers, both very different.
Abbruzzese for PJ!
Cameron for Soundgarden!
@@joandrumz3176 Indeed! You reading this Eddie? You fucked up by firing Dave 30 years ago and now your band sucks. Time to swallow your pride and pick up the phone.
@@joandrumz3176 Agree 100%.
YES! AGREE 💯 Love Cameron too, but Dave was a great match. Sucks he couldn’t stick around longer in PJ
I couldn't agree more! I think the exact same thing!
Such an amazing drummer...his performance on superunknown is still one of my favs to this day
In terms of drumming, songwriting and musical creativity Matt Cameron is a total badass and a legend. People just don't like change.
I think you should add to that that he's probably a great friend to hang out with. All the Dave fan boys don't know if he's an asshole and impossible to tour with.
Yeah. Never a fan. No feel for the song. Just playing random shit within the groove but never feeling it.
Yeah. It’s lacked since Cameron came in. It would be difficult to argue otherwise. Just think of Verses and Nocode. Those albums wouldn’t be the same. Cameron isn’t as tasty
@playlists - The original groove is great if you're stoned and listening to the song while laying on the couch. When you're at a high energy concert, the song would put people to sleep at its original tempo. Looks like the crowd in this video agrees with the way Pearl Jam is presently playing it live.
Nah he just isn’t the right sound for Pearl Jam’s songs. Pearl Jam should be loose, groovy, and dynamic. Matt has one setting which is loud and he is so damn up tight. Doesn’t help that all the live versions of pj songs are literally 200bpm all the time too.
This is what I've been waiting for! Been into SG since the beginning, Matt is the finest modern rock drummer out there....wish there was more content of him doing his thing..so much to be learned from him. Thanks guys.
Chris Infusino every one always compared me to him check out some of my low Budget basement drum covers if your bored enough
I have to agree with some of the comments here. When I listen to this guy it's like seeing black and white, great but black and white picture. When I listen to the drumming from the studio recording it's like I'm riding and swaying on the fucking rainbow of groove, dynamics and even the pure sound of the drum parts.
The studio recording nuances/subtleties can't be duplicated live, and it's too slow for a live show. Two choices, play it studio tempo and put people to sleep, or speed it up to add energy and keep people rockin'
I have been lucky to see this kit master in both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Rock solid drummer!
Matt is my favorite rock drummer from the 90s. He has that finesse in his playing that sets him apart. It's really cool.
Matt in Sondgarden is godly, but with Pearl Jam he doesn't have that same effect, still one of my favorite drummers.
for me , like suicide song is the best drums ever ...
Pearl Jam is pretty straight forward rock. For me, that gets old as a drummer after a while.
eddies timing just sucks fucking ass
Totally agree. Matt was suited perfectly for soundgarden, his ride work was incredible. But for the first pj album I really prefer Dave’s drumming. He was a fucking rock star
mrpicky510 you do realise Dave A didn't play on the first record, it was Dave Krusen.
The awesome part about this is that you get to see part of the gig from drummers perspective, it's really cool.
The large K custom hybrid crash Matt uses on his right side is one of my favorite cymbals of all time. I have mine paired up with a 17” k dark on the left and the pair are just 🤤. Add a 21” k custom ride into the mix and you’re ready to take over the universe.
What ride cymbal is that ?
While Matt might have been more “creative” in Soundgarden, he’s still a drum god. Consistent power with every hit.
Always a blast to watch Matt . Such an awesome drummer . Nails everything.
This song loses so much of what I love about it when played this fast.
vahnn0 I agree. Matt's a great drummer but his speeding up many of the songs takes away from some of the experience.
I agree, great musicianship all round but prefer the tempo down a bit with more groove.
They play every night sets of +25-28 songs. This is the only way to be able to do that.
I used to wonder if I was the only one who thinks they play Even Flow too fast live. Loses the groove that he studio version of the song was famous for.
Just press ctrl + shift + j on chrome and paste this in and press enter.
document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0].playbackRate = .85
Problem solved.
I LOVE his playing. Such a solid rock drummer.
Too True Man,TOO DARN TRUE! I’m going to agree that this effort to speed up tempo is definitely not Matt Cameron’s alone.QUITE SURE COULD PLAY @ the Speed of the song when it was initially introduced. AND BE DARN GOOD AS WELL. SO NO ONE ELSE NEED MISS DAVE ABBRUZZESE, ARE WE CLEAR?
Dave Abbruzzese drove pj during what I consider their best albums. Matts good but Dave had that something that for me made it

Dave Krusen played on the record
I'm with you. I'll even deeper: respect all the way, but can't understand the fuzz about Matt. At least when playing this old stuff, I think he slaughters everything with this up tempo, it loses all the depth and feeling.
Dave is a jazz drummer now. I saw him at the Blue note in LA. Greg Bissonette did a great job teaching him and his had swing, not to be found in this version.
MC did some great stuff with Soundgarden but NO ONE can play evenflow like Dave Abbruzzese. PJ’s best drummer by far.
While Dave was great, Dave K had impeccable taste and groove.
Agreed - sucks that they chose to shit all over him.
The best Soundgarden Drummer EVER.
I’m a guitar player, but when watching and listening to other bands my eyes and ears are always on the drummer. That’s who you groove to. And Matt is one of the best
ive been diving into shuffles lately the amount of tiny details in drumming is insane
Makes sense....drummers are driving the "bus". Seems logical you are natural inclined to focus on the rhythm
I'm so grateful for the 60fps version of this

Dave Abruzzese owns this..Matt is good with Soundgarden, but DA is Pearl Jam! was Pearl Jam
Paul Jason 100% agree!!!
Slower is waaay better. The original album Dave Krusen version was pretty neutral (he had trouble recording it). They re-recorded it when Dave joined (it's the version that starts with Eddie's, "Waaaaahhhh," and that version is used for the "live" video, and the grooviest version.
@@caseybhouse ah that makes a lot of sense now... thanks!
Evenflow will ALWAYS be Dave’s song.
The only drummer worse than Matt Cameron that Pearl Jam has played with is Dave ... Grohl, but he doesn't really count.
The 1992 Dave version is my favorite version. That said, the comments suggest that 24 years later (this vid from 2016) even IF D.A. was playing this, that it should sound like that recording. Listen to other live versions of Dave playing it. Tempos vary and the feel of that recording is extremely hard to replicate it seems even around that same time frame. Not to mention these guys are in their 50s. The Krusen version apparently took over 50 takes and they still didn't like the one on the record. I have a solution though...if you are jonzing for some Dave A....instead of pining for 1992-1995, check out GRO and the stuff he did with Stevie Salas.
Always felt like when watching Matt play in PJ, he kind looks like he wants to play in his Soundgarden style of drumming. Which obviously doesn’t work with Pearl Jam. His influences if I remember right in the rock genre revolve around people like Peter Criss, so really his feel of playing more straight forward rock songs like in PJ is probably more of a straight, fast nature, rather than a more Groovier style like Dave A
Most solid, consistent drummer out there. plays in the pocket and doesnt make a mistake. love it

What a powerfull groove. I stopt the song 5 minutes ago and im still whipping..
Great Drummer, great band

Cameron is the best drummer in the world today, top 5 all time. No doubt.
And why did he ruined this song, and almost all of the 3 first records??? He plays flat, no emotion at all, no details... He is an excellent average drummer, but his style is too flat. Dave A. and Jack Irons used to play with passion...
Fact. Dave A didn't record on 10. That was Dave Kruzen. So if you're liking the groove of the recording you're digging the wrong drummer. They've always played this song fast live. I've seen them when they were still called Mookie Blaylock.
funny u say - first flash for me is always Mookie Blaylock! (cuz i luved the Nets) i was into them pre Ten, they played here in montreal i remember their name on the marquee but i had late classes when was it bro summer - fall 1990 or so.
Tod Hobart You're mostly correct but there is an alternate version of Even Flow in which Dave A is playing the drums (it was released on their greatest hits album). It's so much better than the version released on Ten (I love that version too, though(.
I love Dave Krusen´s work on TEN. o discussion about that. But I´m fortunate to have a few songs re-recorded in studio with Dave Abbruzzese (Release and Deep, Alone), and is just another level...
Tod Hobart some real reasoning at last! Thank you! Love the Daves, but Matt is Matt.
You can hear Eddie struggling to get to the words fast enough even missing the first word to some lines. It is undeniably too fast.

Eddie seems to be having a tough time with this tempo.
Because the other guys are going to fast
I think he does it on purpose to change the song a bit, heard it before
Well I like when he stop and do 2 counts in the hi-hats and let them band go foward, he also waited for the singer to connected towards the end. This song has that feeling even in the Record of falling little behind.
Eddie has mentioned that the song sounds better faster....has more energy. So, no...he doesn't have trouble singing it at this tempo.
@@pbaker7160 clearly he is having some trouble. His timing is off. Perhaps this was an early attempt at speeding up the tempo. However, it's obvious he is having some difficulty.
Matt is a incredible drumer, but I prefer Dave Abbruzzese on this song...
I'm not sure if I really prefer DA... but I do notice when MC deviates from the album version (Dave Kruzen), which is where I do miss DA, since his style was closer to DK's. But then again, Matt is all about no-glam and just straight up heavy hitting so I'm actually good with it!
But on the topic of DA... I'm still pissed about him being shut out by the RRHoF. Such a bunch of !@#$.
While I agree that DK and DA gave the song that groove that really took it to where it needed to go, Matt WAS the original drummer on this track: ruclips.net/video/Qc-A78_ZzGc/видео.html
However, Matt was born to be in Soundgarden. No doubt about it.
100% agree. His drumming style added something special to their music that hasn't been replicated since he was kicked out. Every drummer that has been a part of Pearl Jam has been great and Matt Cameron is one of my top 5 favorite drummers of all time but still not bringing what Dave brought.
