This was recorded at the Tivoli club, Utrecht, the Netherlands, 04.03.1992, as part of the soundcheck before the actual Tivoli concert. Countdown recorded two songs: Alive and Even flow. Both songs were broadcasted on Dutch television. The soundcheck and the concert recording can be found on various bootleg releases in excellent soundboard quality. The t-shirt Eddie is wearing in this video became famous as his outfit during the Pinkpop 1992 performance. By that time Eddie had handwritten the Tivoli name on the t-shirt with a black marker. Eddie later donated the t-shirt back to the Tivoli club, where nowadays it is framed and displayed to club visitors. In 2018 Eddie wore the original t-shirt during that year’s Pinkpop performance once again.
@mipmipmipmipmipCountdown television frequently had lipsync acts, but they recorded lots of live performances as well. Countdown Cafe, a Dutch radio program produced by the same team, broadcasted multiple live performances every week.
@@bubble-and-scrape Heh, you can see this edit was cut from two performances... Eddie's hat is on, Eddie's hat is off. Looks like one take focused more on the other guys. Or maybe they were putting some of the footage of the other song (Alive) into this video.
I have seen Pearl Jam nine times and I have always said Abruzese was their best drummer. Too bad Eddie didn’t think he was punk or something. Abruzese always does bad ass accents too. He was incredible
I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today! I saw Pearl Jam on LOLLAPOLOOZA 92 with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Soundgarden, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill…
We hated grunge music. It got popular, shoved down our throats on radio and MTV for a couple of years and finally went away. Kurt Cobains circumstance is what keeps people attached otherwise nobody would care tbh.
This was one of the nights where Eddie met that fan who he asked about and reuinted with 30 years later! "I am almost certain that I would still recognize her face." Such a cool article
IT’S NOT A TV STUDIO… JOSH! Turn these lights out! It’s a f*cking Rock concert. Ready, DO IT STAND UP! I know this isn’t the show that’s from but it immediately made me think of that lol.
Um… Hmm… They play this song EXACTLY THE SAME LITERALLY 22 EFFING YEARS LATER. (Maybe a TAD less head banging or whatever from Eddie. BUT they ALL still rock tf out of that song.) “When PJ was PJ”… “They’re sh_t now” Ok Troll. I’m sorry you need attention, etc. Go get some therapy.
Eddie sounds fantastic here. The whole band mix is awesome (it does kinda look like they're playing like its soundcheck, as described haha) - thanks for posting!
He was awesome but you've got to appreciate what the others have done too. Krusen's playing on Ten. Irons' playing on No Code. Both phenomenal. And if you don't appreciate Cameron's playing in Pearl Jam, watch Rearviewmirror at Pinkpop in 2000 and the drum cams from Touring Band 2000. Unfortunately, he seems to have lost some of his energy in recent years... possibly since Chris Cornell died.

I play drums but I'm not too familiar with the band members of Pearl Jam, or the band in general. but I've heard 2 versions of even flow with one having a more freestyle of drums in the recording. Just by listening to the style of this drummer , I'm sure he is the same that recorded that more freestyle drums version of even flow. the more famous even flow with simpler drums is a classic but that freestyle drums version is my favorite and I'm glad I found this song live from this concert with this drummer. he has great creativity and manages to add some extra fills without overplaying. powerful and musical at the same time.
Fascinating to hear how poor his vocal technique was back then, yet he's still hitting all the higher notes throughout the tune. Dude's an anomaly with how good his voice still is 30 years later.

@@mercster yea some of the video doesnt match up to the audio.
@dy Yeah noticed that as well... they spliced in footage from the other song for closeups of guitar and stuff, but it doesn't match.
PJs golden lineup. Dave Abbruzzese was a monster of a drummer. That snare!

Agree 👍
Dave the pure soul of Pj.
Very true!
@LikeSomeDude didn't he get fired cause he was a gun owner that believed in god?
The bassline sounds very loud and clear in headphones. Jeff is amazing!!!
One of the greatest songs of all time.
dont think there exists a true orginal pj video from this era in this quality. Absolutely well done preserving it all this time.
Looks like HD.
What an absolute gem this is. Thank you Countdown!
It's my all-time favorite Pearl Jam song. Great live version.

Must be straight out of the studio almost, so raw yet so well-rehearsed! A tricky song to play.
