Wait which clapping? Stipe’s or the crowd? If you mean the crowd I’m totally with you. I’m sure they’re being hyped up by the producers of the show but it’s way overdone for such a melancholy song lol.

REM went from playing Pizza Parlors and small Pubs to becoming the biggest band in the world at one time! An amazing gradual climb to the top! Their first album Murmer was a good start with song Radio Free Europe and then they slowly got better and better with each album until the broke through with Green. 1000% no question about it. Lip sync but in their defense they wouldn't have had a choice. It would have been part of doing this big for this show. Not saying he could have always performed it live perfectly. I'm just suggesting that yes this is lip synced. But yes it also probably wasn't their choice to do it. Wow beautiful song and a magical voice. Simply outstanding!
Love how Michael's depressed tone takes the bounce out the crowd in about 15 seconds. They were probably all on Xanex before the chorus never existed.
What a magical voice ⭐👍
Brilliant use of Mandolin! I always liked the sound of Mandolins!
Like Styx with Boat on the River that Tommy Shaw plays

I never liked this song and never will. It's depressing, crybaby song, hear it 10.000.0000 times on the radio. I don't think the singer ever likes it.

One of the first bands that I got into aged about 12 with their in time album and one of my favourite bands still now in my 30s ..love REM always ❤
Spettacolare ragazzi che musica, veramente emozionante, siete un gruppo meraviglioso e di straordinaria luminosità. Coinvolgenti.
I have this like on a crazy loop, over and over, can't get enough of it.
When I had just acquired a second hand bass guitar, I think this was one of the first songs I attempted to play, so fond memories 👍🏼❤
love the way clapping of audience synchronizes!

Oh life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot-light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
Every whisper, of every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this the hint of the century
Consider this the slip
That brought me to my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies come
Flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot-light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry, fly, try
That was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a dream, dream
