As a 42yr old Irish Man who was in foster care also, I'm very proud of this young man for what he has accomplished never lost sight of his dream i look forward to seeing his future work keep it up Barry 🙏
“You’re blessed Barry, because you can do it” that was a powerful statement. The blessing is the blessing and not the money and fame or material things.
Barry Keoghan IS mesmerizing! I worry about him though whenever I see him. Not that he exhibits any behavior that worries me but as a mother, I think of him being alone surrounded by wolves in Hollywood. There are so many temptations and people ready to lead you down a bad path. I hope he has the self preservation to take care of himself and to choose good people to surround him. He's such a talented guy and seems so vulnerable, which is a big part of his talent on screen. I love his thoughts about the kind of films he wants to do! Wishing you all the best Barry!
It's a valid concern.I've lived in the US for 24 yrs ( I'm originally from London, with Parents from Kerry& I have 5 Sisters&2 Bros) and the US isn't for everyone.. U have to adapt& learn that what's on the surface, isn't necessarily the same once u scratch away the veneer of the different levels. .People travel around a lot ( because they can,it's a massive country, surrounded by two more massive countries North & South) And relationships come& go.. .which is not necessarily a good thing,so u have to learn to be selective with who u mix with. ( especially him being a successful Actor, who I must admit I didn't know much about until recently ) And it's absolutely imperative that u pick friends& company wisely.. But I wish him all of the best.
You can see that he has been put through the humiliation rituals already in Hollywood, dressed up like a girl etc. those are nessecary to join "the club" . With his background he is an easy target for Hollywood
@@pancake_ghosty I hope you're right. There are a lot of temptations that come with fame and money and although it's probably worse when it happens young, he's young enough. Also, his background could make him more vulnerable, though it could also make him wiser. I hope he has a great life and stays safe.
When he said “everything else is a bonus “, I felt that. I was supposed to die at 20 and I’m still here live and kicking 15 years later. Everything feels like a bonus. What a wonderful life.
I had similar , od at 22 in 1990 but came out the other side. Lived my life at a rate of knots after that but the downside is I never planned for anything. I’ve lived for the just the day I’m in, looking back I don’t think that was the right call. I had no confidence in myself making it to 50 and so plans weren’t anything that concerned me. Don’t have long now for other reasons but I lived a life less ordinary.
Wonderful interview - Barry has a very high level of intuitive intelligence when it comes to acting - he is a natural talent and an artist who knows his own strengths - I just hope he doesn't burn himself out too quickly - the camera loves him and his face is fantastically unique... mesmerising... A fractured chaotic childhood in foster care being pushed from pillar to post - Barry adored his Mum but tragically she was destroyed by heroin addiction & he has no relationship with his Dad - However he has a brother & sister that he loves with an extended loving family so he's not alone.
that was brilliant to watch. it was like watching 2 folk just have a chat in the pub. Tommy tiernan was clearly listening to what was being said. barry keoghan is wise beyond his years.
Beautiful honest interview. A breath of fresh air, compared to the regular ‘celebrity’ interviews were now used to. Barry is an amazing talent. Good on him!
I watched this and I had a lot of respect, love and empathy for Barry. I see so much in him that I understand, even though I grew up in the north, working class Irish stuff is what it is.
It's great watching this now, with seeing where Barry has gone from here, very proud to see he has stuck to his guns and chosen great roles, he is now an actor you can trust to be in a good film.
You're totally correct about his talent, my worry would be that he doesn't have normal Irish people keeping his feet on the ground when he's out in that Hollywood.
Well this was brilliant interview - you could feel a positive energy and they played off each other well. I enjoy Tommy's interviewing style, but it doesn't always come off - depending on who is being interviewed. This is one where it worked.
Man this is a lesson for parents or teachers with overactive kids. Barry was hyped from the start but Tommy brought it down by straight questions, paraphrasing, long silences and calm eye contact, leaning forward. Tommy is amazing.
Tiernan has the gift just to pierce somebody's defences with a single question and an intense stare. The amount of times guests have said, this is the first time Ive talked about a subject attests to his abilty to delve into somebodys soul whilst making them feel comfortable at the same time
Tommy has the rare ability to look into a person's eyes and see them - his questions are delivered with a gentle strength that invites truth sharing. He looks at the guest so closely that he picks up on subtle signs of resistance and he nudges them aside with care.
This was so cute, hes so young here and as excited as any younger irish person would be seeing someone like tommy tiernan recognising them and showing them interest. V cute
Yeah. I love both these guys.. love tt as long time.. barry fairly new.i didnt watch the love hate series yet.. but seen him in a few movies , his acting was very good no matter what character he played,he has a lovly face and a great way with him. I didnt know about his childhood but fair play to him it disnt phase him much as a child so he obviously had good foster parents along the way.. because these things are important wen your depending on the state to look after a child.. the company they keep in schools etc... how they are treated by teachers also , all of these things.. the main thing is he didnt have that chip on his shoulder.. as it doesnt matter then how well or bad your reared that chip can turn into a big massive rabbit hole and u can get lost in there.. im so glad he has a dream... and he realised it wen he got the opportunities to do so.. his younger brother watching on at such a good role model im sure barrys examples wer what egged his brother along.. im just so happy for him and his brother... bless them both ( they are BLESSED) and Tommy Teirnan , a funny and blessd man also... loved this interview.. thanx guys
Tommy is far too good for Late, Late show, his style is unique and wouldnt fit that structure, hes genius at what he does and digs deep , his natural curiousity and interest in the real person, brings out the best in both himself and his guest, so natural, like two people having a genuine chat, love his show... The Late, Late is past it , it should have finished with Gay Byrne, the Master, who made it his own, from different times,.... Tommy's show is fresh and interesting and perfect♥️
Richard Dormer is the man for that he did the one man stage play 'Hurricane' and poured his heart and soul into it. Barry would probably be excellent as well tho.
Ok so for anyone who is confused the interviewer does not know who the guest is before they come out. So all the questions Tommy comes up with are on the spot
Best interview of any actor *EVER.* I hope Barry gets a permanent, life-long, *Irish* Therapist to ensure he never gets overwhelmed, or falls into celeb-world addiction, or suicidal, or anything like that. Like Heath Ledger. American Therapists are incompatible with the Irish nature&post-Colonial IrishHiberno-English articulation of deeply restrained&generationally repressed emotions Or maybe just read Robert Sheehan's book! 😂 Apparently he is his own self-therapist now 😆☺️ Am disgusted to discover that Irish Fostering is so disgracefully unstable for a child. ONLY 5-6months at a time!? That is seriously seriously damaging to the child!! And I would almost venture - *abusive* Sure it's no wonder so, that the State views it as acceptable and tenable to leave 4,000+ children in a state of perpetual "Hotel" Homelessness during their formative years.
Not sure if it was intended or not but TT ( who i do find funny) should first of all (in front of the audience) have established if certain areas of the young mans life are permissible. .Putting him on the spot& asking awkward questions with a msssive f##king audience sitting on the edge of their seats might be not recommended for his ( or anyones) guest. After so many different "homes" I imagine he is full of perseverance. I am not worried about him. He is mighty. 💜💪
I mean he is in his 30s. He's not a child. The benefit for him is that he found international success in his adult life

A genuine person and an amazing actor! Tommy not too bad either : )
My daughter was one of Barry Keoghan's teachers in his school in Dublin. She always said that he was one of the good guys.
Nice to hear! (Love Dublin 🇨🇦)
Total respect

Barry you are such a humble man you deserve the best in life and I hope and pray you make all the right decisions because you are one special guy
Tommy Tiernan You are a brilliant interviewer Great Show .Well Done .
The eye contact in this interview is everything! Especially when his brother was mentioned. Barry’s body language changed totally
I watched this and I had a lot of respect, love and empathy for Barry. I see so much in him that I understand, even though I grew up in the north, working class Irish stuff is what it is.
Working class Irish?

Mesmerising
So much more real and awkward than I’m using to seeing in America, and from a comedian. Whoa.
what a fabulous guy... "gives me irish pride"
Great to see a working class lad do the best!
Great young man, keep it up dude 👏
He is electric, it’s like watching an interview with a young John Lennon.
Fantastic Interview
I absolutely love Barry, so proud of him... I hope himself and his brother have continue success...
Wonderful conversation
Tiernan.. a national treasure
Tommy is such a great interviewer.

Class act 👏
How the fuck has Tommy not been given the Late Late..
Thats a really good point.
Perhaps he didn't want it too restrictive he's his own man and his outspoken attitude wouldn't fit with the late late.

I would love to see Barry portray Alex Hurricane Higgins in a biopic..I think he would be tremendous.

Hard to interview that lad hes all over the shop
Barry has adhd. Never sits still. This is from his early career, he seems self concious. Tommy asked very personal questions too..
Adhd is a condition of childhood trauma , 13 homes , that's trauma

He sold out to "the club"
very nice guy dont see ringo in there actually yes a little more swag needed xxxxx

Train wreck interview from both of them.
bullshit
Which part? The disarmingly brutal honesty, or the relaxed but genuine professional style that led to it?
One of the most open interviews I’ve ever seen?
The train wreck is part of the interview which makes it interesting to observe
