Hello Aaron, first of all, great video! Really deep and good information about the Atem Mini. There is only one fact I did not get completely... Starting with minute 4:00 , you talk exactly about the problem I have.. bad quality of the stream with MS Teams! You discribed how you solved the problem.. by using 2 usb-c plugs to be able to share the picture of a screen and not of the camera.. I was not able to get how you did this. Could you explain more detailled? Do you use 2 laptops? what connections do you use? what adapters do you use for this? Great video! Thanks for sharing! Do you have advice on how to better the quality of images streamed from virtual camera (in my case manycams) through to zoom? The images look great on manycams but the compression into zoom makes text and detail on JPG files really poor quality. I don’t like the time it takes to transition to and from zoom screen share and prefer the easier transitions of manycams, but I need the quality to be much crisper. Any advice would be wonderful pls??
I’d love to learn more about Strata Macros. It looks like you are using a lightning to Ethernet connector and Ethernet to the ATEM. The app description on the App Store talks about WiFi options. Does that work with the Mini? Just want to know it will work before spending $50 on an app.
The app is as simple as it gets, you tell it the IP address of your ATEM Mini and it will load in all the macros as buttons. Just make sure they are on the same network, whether that's your home network or a dedicated network for the two devices. The app doesn't know whether it's on wifi or ethernet, but using ethernet will give you a more stable connection.
Greetings Aaron, very concise and understandable tutorial, although sometimes you go a little quickly for this geezer. Here's my question. My partner is now also working from home, probably for an extended period of time. I'am going to purchase this device for her remote presentations and for my own podcasting/ vlogging needs. How can I input audio from my interface into this thing, I'am using a 4 pre USB interface that and using shotgun mics and vocal mics? Sorry for the novel, I am somewhat green.
If your audio interface has an output that can send a feed into a camera, that's one option. Otherwise it probably has a line output and you can run that via a 1/8" cable into the ATEM Mini.
Whew! Thanks, Aaron. Watched your other videos but was a bit overwhelmed with all the connections and additional interfacing needs. This one is a tad closer to what I hope to do with the ATEM Mini to do an online art class using Zoom. Going to record myself using either my iPhone XS or a 3rd gen Mini connected via HDMI to the switcher and with AirPods connected. I’ll have my Panasonic GX85 connected and pointed at my workspace where I’ll be drawing or painting. Guess I’ll connect to Zoom with my MBP and send output from the switcher to the laptop. Only have two USB-C ports on the laptop. Will connect my 12.9 iPad Pro via HDMI as 3rd input into switcher and will pull Keynote slides from that. Make sense?
how does the picture look like in Microsoft Teams? My experience with virtual cams from OBS has been less than optimal in a Microsoft Teams meeting. Slides and video quality are really poor. The same virtual cam streamed looks great.....
Hi Aaron. Is there any latency between the HDMI Camera (i.e. INPUT 1) and the audio input on the back of the ATEM? I head that the best practice is to ALWAYS run the audio through the camera ONLY.
Certainly it's a great option to run the audio through a camera. But the latest firmware update reduced the delay to an unnoticeable amount! It's totally fine now!
I use a combination of Loopback and AudioHijack to tweak any audio-video sync problems. It can only add delay to audio, but that is the problem you might face here. In some cases, I get feedback that the sync is ok, but when I see problems, I turn on audiohijack and adjust the delay by 100-200 milliseconds and it helps.
This is an awesome video! thanks for the high content quality! I am close to border this little fellow, but there is one last question: Is it possible to toggle a presentation/ slidedeck that is running on the same computer, the ATEM mini is connected to as a webcam?
Yes it is! You can plug in an hdmi dongle to the computer and run an hdmi cord back in to the ATEM mini. Your computer will see it as a monitor and you can either mirror or extend your display to it just like another screen!
That was a really great and informative video, thank you. I'm having to switch my seminars to online, and your setup and tips should be quite valuable. How can I achieve this without the use of another laptop? Scenario: I have laptop and 2 additional screens. One I am sharing to people via my GoToMeeting etc. The other I am using to have my Atem Control App and other things on. Then my laptop screen I am powering everything from but I don’t share that screen. I also have hooked up my iPad for the slides deck. Awesome way to do things yes. Now, I have figured out all the Chromakey and P&P in the inputs of the iPad, and main camera view, however I can’t figure out how to do P&P while I am sharing my screen (which is one of the two larger screens). Hi Aaron, thank you for all your helpful videos, it has help me a lot! Quick question, what software are you using on your iPad to control the macros on the Atem Mini? Thanks Vic
have you facing issue with ATEM? sometime computer detect ATEM mini as webcam but no video. i also can not connect two laptop and one camera at the same time. i can do one camera , one computer and two ipad. i want to do two computer , one camera and one ipad. it did not work.
Atem mini will show as an webcam, when you are presenting in zoom/hangouts/skype how do you prevent when others people speak to spotlight in the video feed. I mean, everytime someone speak, it will change the video and show who is talking for the other participants. I usually share my screen, and the main focus will be always the shared screen. I am trying to figure it out to use it this summer in class using zoom.
Most of those apps let viewers "pin" one of the videos so that it stops switching between other people. But also, I tell people to go on mute unless they are asking a question. If everyone is on mute, then my video will be the one shown. That said, with all the increased usage of these video platforms, they've had to increase the compression and sometimes drop to 720 instead of 1080, so some of the text in my slides ends up being blurry. In the last 2 weeks or so I've switched to screen sharing for my slides, and using my switcher for switching between my camera, the countdown timer, and a splash screen.
@@aaronpk my use is for teaching, so i ask them question and we use to discuss with students. mute and pin adds more complexity to them. I was trying to use obs and use monitor function and share this monitor. It worked I had audio sync issues, i need to figure out how to delay my mic in this way.

Hi, thanks for the great video! Did you encounter any audio delays using the microphone in on the atem mini vs. the video through hdmi? This topic is discussed heavily in other atem mini videos. Currently the only solution is to run the audio through a camera.
Aaron Parecki : Thanks for the update! I didn’t see the update yet so I am glad they worked on it. So this is great news. Does the update offer a setting to adjust the delay or did they do something that just works out of the box?
GoToMeeting does not work with Atem Mini - spent 45 minutes with tech support to ensure it wasn’t a computer issue. Do you know a work around with GoToMeeting?
It sounded like your primary camera was connected to input 4. What were your 1-4 inputs? I'm testing with GTM right now getting ready for a gig next week (in webex) and since I currently have my camera in input 1, the webcam out is pumping 1080p. Looks like GTM (and Webex and Zoom) only support 720p. I'm just trying to figure out how to get that 720p downscale even though the mini appears only to do flavors of 1080. Otherwise, I have to size and position things near pixel perfect.
I haven't had any trouble with Webex or Zoom with the ATEM Mini. Even if they only are doing 720p, the software can read the 1080p from the ATEM Mini no problem and scale it itself. When I'm using it in this setup, I have one or two 1080 cameras, an iPad, and a computer connected to it.
just to close the loop...Webex worked great...except...it appears that the client's administration settings for Webex were to not use HD, so my video/slides/everything (much like your setup) was downscaled to somewhere between 180p and 480p (couldn't really figure out which it was). Very not happy. I'm hoping I don't have to go back to the old ways of "share my screen" and "share my camera". I'm spoiled after 2 full days of my ATEM setup.
Not sure if if I can articulate why I should win but I know how I would use it. My son and his wife just had twin daughters. When my wife and I go visit to help them for a couple of months I would use it to help stream how the babies are doing to are family than can’t visit because of the pandemic.
Do you have video feeds coming back that you need to monitor aswell or is it all one way video traffic? I can see similar applications where you need to see the other people - How would you add that to the set up?
I haven't had to actually keep an eye on remote video feeds, but since I usually use Zoom or WebEx, all the remote people just show up on my laptop, so it isn't complicated at all.
Strata Macro - a $49 app with one 1 Star Review in the Apple App Store. Obviously you think better of it than that. Could you say a little more some time?
I have the atem mini pro and tried an identical setup with an ipad pro. I've not been able to get the colors correct from the ipad into the atem; they're all off. Did you run into any issues with color on the ipad input?
I haven't had any trouble with the iPad at all. I always use the Apple HDMI lightning dongle or the Uni USB-C one. What kind of "off" colors are you seeing?
@@davidbrumley5245 that actually looks like it might be the iPad adjusting the colors to match the white balance in the room. True Tone I think they call it? I know on computers there's the same problem with Flux as well as apple's version of it
Too many devices, too complex, too pricey. I use softwares like Wirecast or Manycam, they do everything you mentioned (switching different cameras, playing music, showing countdown...), for a fraction of the price, and with just one computer.
You can always play back at .75x speed on RUclips! Personally I'm always cranking peoples videos up to 1.75x or 2x so I like to keep up a similar pace!

just to close the loop...Webex worked great...except...it appears that the client's administration settings for Webex were to not use HD, so my video/slides/everything (much like your setup) was downscaled to somewhere between 180p and 480p (couldn't really figure out which it was).
Aaron Thanks so much for this! I am running out to get my Gear now man!
Do you have video feeds coming back that you need to monitor aswell or is it all one way video traffic? I can see similar applications where you need to see the other people - How would you add that to the set up?
I haven't had to actually keep an eye on remote video feeds, but since I usually use Zoom or WebEx, all the remote people just show up on my laptop, so it isn't complicated at all.
thanks Aaron
BNH will ship the ateam mini pro in mid julay it will be about two months time from date of order? anyone knows where can we get it in nyc?
great video, and tips :) well done
Like your videos Aaron!
@@aaronpk I have slides with a white background, but they are off-white. Here is a screen shot imgur.com/a/h661i88
I just updated from the mini 8.5.2 to 8.5.3 software and it seems fixed now. Whew.
@@davidbrumley5245 that actually looks like it might be the iPad adjusting the colors to match the white balance in the room. True Tone I think they call it? I know on computers there's the same problem with Flux as well as apple's version of it
Thanks Aaron, helpful.
What app do you use for you ipad
Thanks Aaron
Great video Thank you.
wait, what? not following how did you fix the color problem?
Oh sorry! Instead of using an HDMI splitter, I run two HDMI outputs from my laptop and mirror them.
@@aaronpk Hi! thanks for replying, both connected to the atem mini?
One goes to the ATEM Mini, the other to that monitor on my desk so I can see it
@@aaronpk Got it! Thank you so much! I'm having the same problem, I will try that!
Too many devices, too complex, too pricey. I use softwares like Wirecast or Manycam, they do everything you mentioned (switching different cameras, playing music, showing countdown...), for a fraction of the price, and with just one computer.
DAYUM!
Neato.
Great video. Would have been even better/more instructive if you would have spoken a little slower.
You can always play back at .75x speed on RUclips! Personally I'm always cranking peoples videos up to 1.75x or 2x so I like to keep up a similar pace!
The pace is perfect for me.
Aaron Parecki I didn't know that you can play slower. Thing is that I'm not a native English speaker.
@@aaronpk 75% is too slow for me. But 95% might be perfect. Your content so far is excellent, that's why I chose your link to Amazon.
Not really the "BEST" but meh ok.
