You're a better man for clearing that rocky uphill section. I don't even bother riding up that portion. I just do the walk of shame, lol.

Dude, how'd you make it up that climb on Manzanita?! Seated or standing and what gear? The camera doesn't do it justice at all lol.

Seated with my butt on the nose of the saddle. 32 up front with 46 out back. Definitely tricky but doable.

Great job with the video and commentaries. Love that you can share personal experiences with a trail or bike and have it relate back to mountain bikers in general. Also really like hearing background information on the different trails (especially how some of them got their name!).

The first year I rode Skeggs and Manzanita was on my '83 Stumpjumper. No suspension, cantilever brakes, 26" wheels and tires from 1983. It was actually a great bike, long rake for stability, ect.... After that, the next 15 years were on hard tails, Trek and Lightspeed. Then a long break and never rode full suspension until a few years ago. The park has changed. Harder due to the wear and tear of the trails but easier because of the more sculpted trails and bridges over the culverts and trees we used to have to ride over and through, and a gutted Porche 914. Some new trails but a lot of the truly narrow single track is gone in the name of "progress" I guess and Mid-Pen's dictatorship of the park.

Thanks for posting this. Was riding in Marin today and reminiscing about when I used to live and ride in the peninsula. Skeggs was one of my favorite places to ride so this brought back memories. I forgot how rocky it is but love the singletrack in the forest beauty. You killed it on those trails!

Awesome Video! Two questions: Do you react to poison oak, and if you do, do you, how careful are you at avoiding it when you ride these trails?

      It's a miracle!
BTW, great job on the video. Trying to learn a good loop. This helps.

Great stuff man. Last time I was there, some riders told me to do Sierra Morena to Oljion to steam donkey. Worth it?

    • @mtbsavant5414

Can't say that I've taken that route before. I've done SD right off Skyline, however your route would skip almost a mile of the trail.

So what is the front / rear travel of the bike you're using in this vid?

    • @mtbsavant5414
      @mtbsavant5414  6 лет назад

It's a Yeti Sb4.5c which has 140mm up front and 114mm rear with modern trail geometry.

Hey man, nice video. Any suggestions for newbies? I just started biking and have been practicing at Bedwell Park off Marsh Rd in Menlo Park. I'd love to check out other trails in San Mateo County

Open Space areas along Skyline (Hwy 35) have plenty of good biking trails that are easier than Skeggs. But some sections in Skeggs are good for everyone, and Skeggs has the best trails in mid Peninsular.

  • @_ab054

It’s nice video with very interesting facts about the track but I have a friendly suggestion. Even your video is in 1080 resolution it still looks like it is very poor quality I am pretty sure it’s because of the render settings you used in your editing software. Check out Google’s recommendation about render settings for video uploads do RUclips or find some RUclips video suggestions how to do that. your videos will looks way better even without 4k

Been riding here for years, tons of great trails, however they never seem worth it with the steep climbs out especially if you ride all the way down and far side. Hate to say it but an ebike would be the way to go here.

I dislike this place because even pushing your bike our from the bottom is torture. To see people climbing it is insane. Scariest ride I’ve even been on because when going back to the car, a giant tree branch weighing 40 pounds almost dropped on me.
