@@HBPowerwall Wow, I hope the batteries don't degrade off the charge they've held that long.
This video taught me a lot, because you see, I'm Nigeria. Here at home we don't have a steady power supply, nor is it cheap.
Also, 2 months ago, after our new president was sworn in, gasoline prices rose by 300% totaling a 1,000% increase since the last 10 years. This makes it more difficult to run portable gasoline generators as has been the norm.....
Thankfully, I have recently just became a man (lol) and moved into my own space which I also double as a studio for photography and music recording. (😉that life, I'm the family handy man)
I was researching on 18650s for a power solution when I recalled bumping into your videos years back. You know I definitely had to come back to finish what we started.
A 2KW inverter should serve my current need. I majorly need it to be able to record music in silence. About 6 hours of runtime will be sufficient since we get at least 8-10 hours of grid power during the day, (I know right? Our leadership system here isn't one that I am proud of).
I wouldn't need solar panels for now for budget reasons. I can simply charge when the grid is on.
Now you may think that's counter intuitive with regards to electrical billing, but since there's no metering, it will attract no extra cost. I know how dumb it sounds but the grid just serves us plugged‐in figures of guesstimation. If anything I'd be making the most of the huge charges I've had to pay all the while by now having the battery storage.
Thankfully, I have the skill and electrical know-how to make such a system (esp. with all the resources out here). Even if it'll be my first DC generator, mine will be relatively small footprint. I did study Electrical Engineering for 3 years before dropping out for financial reasons plus I have a handful of engineering buds. But... I digress.
Now all I need is a fortune and the sale of my left kidney to buy the batteries 🤣.
For real though, wish I had access to batteries. But even as young and dedicated, small business builders, we have access to zero loans in my country. Its pitiful but true.
It pains me that even for someone versatile enough to eliminate cost of labour as myself, I still can't afford the damn project to save my business. Damn, this was meant to be a courtesy reply but I went off the rails. I'm sorry. I was just thinking out loud, I'm just too fascinated by these things. So much so that I just watch other people's build just to live the moment with them.
I loved seing your wife and son in the video. It was a treat.
      Regards,
      Naz

Thanks for your videos. I have read about the standards that put paid to your project, but what exactly was the deal breaker there? is it explained in one of your videos? The standards seem to be to do with where you locate the system, voltage limits etc. You seem like a persistent and highly competent sort of guy who could have dealt with those issues.

      @HBPowerwall  Год назад +1

Good question! Issues are I don't understand the 'standards' as they are not a 'LAW' so in theory I 'CAN' do it, I believe the issue will arise when someone dies as a result of my work or my house insurance needs to be claimed. Honestly I'm starting to thing I can do stuff just not well enough for me to sleep at night, you'll notice after these videos I started to really slow do big projects for fear of causing issues. So they don't have individual battery control?
    Isn't this
    1) ineffective becasue you can not charge each cell for 100% and discharge untill 0
    2) dangerous because you can overcharge some for more than 100%, so they ignite
    3) going to break soon, because some will discharge below 0% which degrades them very quickly
    ???
I remember doing DIY powerbank and I've got such smart controller for 6 18650 batteries.

      1. Who in their right mind would charge too 100% and discharge to Zero? MADNESS!
      2. The BMS controls the batteries in many ways monitoring cell voltage, heat etc - with out external forces are applied - these cells are safe enough to use. End user is more dangerous than they are.
      3. Hasn't broken yet - sounds like you have no idea what you're on about..

When this video came up, I wondered about human behaviour.
'Mining' electronic money using electricity is like making water with a dehumidifier.
    Are people really that stupid?

Well I could have just run an oil heater as a load but, I feel that was more stupid? And given i'm using mostly recycled material, its like making water with an old plastic bag and a rock..
