Have just today agreed to Rolex Service Centre in Melbourne (Australia) servicing my 1976 Datejust 1601/4 watch. Complete service ...$AUS1450, Crown $77, Oscillating weight $110, Possible balance complete $473 Total inc. GST $2110. They also wanted to replace the dial and hands at a cost of $748, I said no chance. Prices in the U.S are so cheap,; we get taken to the cleaners in this country(for everything) " Always look on the bright side of life".

thanks for posting this. I bought a 2005 datejust from a customer of mine and thought about sending it in for service. so glad I read that it only needs service every so often and he had it in 2 years ago. from your experience I will just pass on that lol. 1200 for a watch that's only worth 3k no thanks. I understand why you did. I only wish I had something like that from my grandfather.

Diego good video and I was amazed at the charge and the not so quality work. I hope you go independent watchman next time you need service.

Nice video, very interesting to see about the service process of Rolex. Have they fixed the crown issue? Any updates on that? Thanks, great watch!

I've sent it back to Rolex. They are paying shipping both ways, expediting the service, and crediting me a portion of the original service. We'll see how she looks when it comes back. I'll make a follow up video.

Wow, what a rip! And this was just the sort of thing that Rolex says they didn't like about independent service centers doing. It's also true that Rolex considers any watch prior to 1980 to be "obsolete" so it's a good reason to boycott them for anything new today. I'd have sent it into Jewelers On Time or Gray & Sons.

How cool is THAT? If you need the pins replaced on the bracelet, let me know. I know a guy with 30 years rolex experience that could replace the stretch and pins for only 150 bucks. Worth EVERY penny

Great video! Thanks for posting. Especially the old documents from 1967. Did your grandpa buy the watch in Mexico? The document said "Tudor" mexico. I know Tudor is parts of Rolex now. Did he buy it at an official Rolex dealer though?

You're welcome. Rolex called today and they'll be shipping my watch back today. As for where my grandfather bought it, at an authorized dealer.

hi diego, dont understand why is the clasp not polished when you got it back? what has the warranty got to do with them refusing to polish the clasp?

They said it would not be refinished because of structural integrity. Watch the follow up video.

Going through the same rigmarole with my dad's '76 Datejust. The whole process is full of frustrating facepalm moments. "No I don't what EVERYTHING replaced THANK YOU!... IT's VINTAGE!!!"

Not impressed with Rolex service either...independent watch maker would have serviced it with the bracelet for a fraction of that cost. I hope it ran within -4+6/day?

I have a 1993 Datejust two tone black stick dial with factory diamond bezel. I'm going to send off to get jubilee bracelet re pinned. I know you wouldn't see your gradfathers watch for 1 million. Me either

Same crap with my omega seamaster. Came back the crown would not even screw down. QC how could it pass? A 300 meter dive watch. How is this possible? Obviously it was not checked! Had to send it back THREE times before they fixed it. Lost all my respect for omega at that point!

The facts are the facts... Rolex should have never released the watch back to you in that condition... very disturbing.

I would not dream of sending any Rolex to The Rolex service center within The United States. I send mine directly to Geneva.

Rolex are alright but entry level at best. They are a very basic watch.
