When both understudies are better than the person who supposed to be the lead, you know you got a problem.
in all honesty beanies last note was actually really good, but that’s about all i can say about her singing
Googling Ephie Aardema now, wow, impressive! Beanie is so nasal, and sings in the wrong part of her mask, and loses a lot breath with her "h"s. Lea defiantly has the biggest voice.
Beanie seems like a lovely person and all, but when I heard of her casting in "Funny Girl" a musical that is a bit "meh" but has some great songs, I thought why would you cast someone with such a little voice? Then you hear both understudies who blow her out of the water, then you hear the crowd going wild for Lea, and it only confirms that they cast the wrong person at the start.

Lea just kills this every time. There's no comparison. I've seen her perform it live and it was breathtaking.

Well this just sounds like a video that proves Lea is, in fact, the greatest star.
I’ve never seen Beanie live and this is only the second full version from her I’ve heard, and honestly she’s not as bad as people make her seem. She had some great moments and honestly I really think with more training she’d have been great, she just isn’t right now. Definitely not someone I’d want to pay $200 a ticket for.
Julie sounded great; there were some choices in there I felt were strange but overall, what a voice! I’ve known of her since she was a swing/sb in the Spring Awakening tour cast, she’s great.
Ephie is sooo good! Never heard her until now, but I’d like to hear more! Again, there were…choices made that I’m not sure I was on board with but she sounded really good.
Lea…aside from performing this song for Glee, I’ve seen her perform this live twice plus she sings it at EVERY CONCERT SHE DOES! It’s an old friend, it’s like a pair of comfy old pants her voice just fits right in to. Fanny Brice Lea blows me away!
One thing this song is meant to do is show us Fanny is determined to get her man, and Lea really showed us she’s gonna get it! I believe her, that’s the difference.

Beanie isn’t a BAD singer, nor have I seen anyone accusing her of such. But she her voice is underwhelming, poorly supported, and not the powerhouse this role demands.
She trained for six months with one NYC’s best vocal teachers, and this is the best she could do.

Hands-down Lea Michele is the best and this comment goes to all those tick-tock or‘s that don’t like the costume change between beanies costumes and Leah‘s costumes I am myself being an overweight person knows I could not wear something nuts from fitting and to have somebody who’s been with something that’s loose it would make them look like they lost in it so the custom design department did the right thing with the costumes 50%
I think it’s less about the style of costume change and more about there being a costume change at all, because that is strictly against Equity (basically the Broadway union) rules. Every actor playing a role has to have the same costume across the board right down to minute details, to safeguard the standbys and understudies basically getting a second rate costume that could effect their performance and safety. They’re more than likely paying hefty fines every night she appears in a secondary costume and I would bet good money those fines are coming out of Lea’s paycheck.
No comparison! Lea has best vocals, arrangement and stylistic choices for that song.

I agree. Even throughout the whole show. She has this energy like you know she wanted it for so long. She’s incredible. She is the greatest star ⭐️👏🏼 I saw it last week and was blown away.
The thing the jumps out at me the most is that Lea, Julie and Eden act throughout the song in addition to sounding great. I don’t feel that Bennie does that most of the time. Maybe seeing her it would be different, but this is something that makes all the difference in musicals.

Personally I like Lea the best-her vocal presence is crazy good. Julie Benko also is a close second, I like her comedic timing. Ephie Aardema does a great job-but backphrases behind the beat a little too much for my taste. Feldstein was just not vocally up to the role, and lacks the training and control the others have.
Beanie is slowing the orchestra down the whole song until it's so painfully slow...
That wasn't her doing. For whatever reason, they slowed the temporary of the song during her run as Fanny.
Presumably, the director was trying to make it easier for Beanie to sing since she struggled with the bigger numbers.
Beanie, Julie, and Ephie are all really good….but Lea is extraordinary! She IS Fanny Brice.
I think there’s also a lot of priming because we’re so used to her doing it on glee and then also she sounds the closest to Barbara and this is Barbra Streisand role

I agree. Ephie has that Broadway ping. I think the theatre gods finally got it right. Lea as Fanny as Ephie as a great understudy.

There just isn’t a comparison. Lea is so much better than everyone, including Julie, she blows everyone out of the water.
Dang here you can really see how,compared to the rest, beanie just did not have the vocals for such a demanding role. I know she fits the character of Fanny great but I don’t know why you would cast someone whose singing voice did not fit.
Ephie and Julie are both amazing, but Lea just brings a certain quality that they can't. Her sheer drive and ambition really shines through in songs like DROMP.
I can appreciate ALL the voices.....I guess it all just comes down to who's voice you prefer.... and for me, it's Lea !
and for nobody it's Beanie! Almost everyone will pick Lea. Be serious!
Would love to have heard Lea's final note if it weren't for the hyenas in the audience.
Is it just me or do all the other versions in this comparison make you feel like you’re at a funeral because there all so freaking slow?, is lea the only one in the proper tempo as well as the proper key?

It’s too bad this couldn’t include Katerina McCrimmon, currently amazing grateful audiences around the country in the national tour. Simply stunning, & one of those “I saw her when…” moments, knowing this still quite young woman will become a huge star, if this world makes any sense at all.
Thanks for doing this. I saw the show on Jan 17 2023 and it was terrific. I wish audiences could control themselves and wait to the end of the song to clap and cheer. They stomped all over the last note and other big parts of all the big songs, as you can hear on Lea's part here.
Beanie is just a NOPE for me and I hate being someone to say it. I have no idea what they were thinking when they casted her but Fanny has to be funny, yes, but also a powerhouse singer.
I wish that someone would have been honest with Beanie before this got off the the ground.

Lea outsings both Julie and Ephie, who in turn absolutely obliterate Beanie. Seriously what were they thinking? Beanie is almost never in tune, she's always a little off, she has zero energy and zero tempo. wtf!
Beanie was so woefully miscast in this. One wonders how on earth such a terrible mistake was allowed to play out on a Broadway stage. SO many people are guilty for her humiliation- starting with the people who convinced her she had the vocal chops to play Fanny.
Beanie is just such a miscast. Yikes. Both her understudies/ alternates are better than her that’s just embarrassing. I saw Lea on Friday and oh god she is incredible. Julie is also just so fantastic. But this roles is Lea for the taking. I just wish she could get that Tony.

@@rogergedeon5889 I know she’s not eligible. But there is a category for replacement actor which she can. It has never been used. But who knows. She is phenomenal in funny girl and I just wish she can get it.
She is not Tony eligible sadly, and I doubt they’ll reconsider using the Replacement Performer category. I heard the logistics for that were a nightmare.
That being said, if they were to give her a special Tony for “Performer Who Stepped in to save a drowning show’s a$$” I’d say it’s well deserved; the show is sold out the rest of her performances for September with a few $1000 and up tickets left here and there. September 20 is completely sold out.
Just a side note, the category I mentioned does not exist and was sarcasm only, it doesn’t translate that way for some Internet folks so just a disclaimer lol.

@@rambambobam1268 I get it completely, believe me. I really wish they had gone with her first, but I’m glad she’s there now. Taking my mom in January to see it, we love Funny Girl and used to watch Glee together when it was on so we’re very excited!
Lea is still my favorite and for the love of heaven please don’t hate me I beg of you because what I’m going to say next is purely an observation but lea is the only one that the audience went absolutely wild about.

@@elise4287 I can confirm- Lea’s audio is from her opening night, while Beanie’s is from a preview performance. Ephie’s is actually from a musical theatre conference… not sure of the date of Julie’s audio.

Beanie is…not nearly as bad as everyone makes her out to be. But yes, probably not vocally strong enough for this role. I blame the producers for not being realistic in this casting.
Julie is…clearly a seasoned veteran and is consistent night after night. I love the vocal acting choices she makes but some of them are a little harsh (which is the character) and may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Ephie is…definitely the one I want to hear more of, she has a gorgeous tone.
Lea….has beautiful pitch and when she’s at her best, there’s no stopping her. She is at times, however, struggling for breath and I really hope she’s able to maintain her voice quality throughout her run.
Julie Benko for Me. I love the character of her voice and the Vibrant personality she brings to Fanny with her performance.
I've never really cared for Lea Michelle's singing voice, so I'm not as hyped for her rendition as a lot of people are here.
Feldstine never should have been funny girl and I’m saying this purely based on vocals and nothing more.
Man listening to this I understand now why beanie was a big miss. She just lacks the energy. I feel she is just going through the notes, and not giving the energy required by the song. Sad that people commented about her weight, but boy was she not really the one for this role. Lea... well, her vocals are definitely meant for this role

Honestly no. She was just flat out the best. Some of these other singers are relying way too much on their nasal cavity to make their resonance. Beanie just sounds weak and awful to me. Lea truly has powerhouse vocals.

These audio clips of her singing DROMP give me a pretty good hint as to why her team has probably gone to great lengths to keep that mess off of here. Might hinder any future stage opportunities for her, poor girl! Maybe she should just stick to non-musical comedies and dramas instead.

It's mind boggling how she managed to be cast AT ALL. It reeks of nepotism hiring. By chance do you know if the rumors that her parents helped to produce/finance the show are true? It'd make sense, if so.

After hearing this Beanie doesnt sound as bad as I first heard. Maybe because we were instantly going to compare her to Barbra. Julie is good and much better but it bothered me how she shouted in certain spots. i got the feeling she was purposely trying to make it different than Barbra's. Who is Ephie? i never heard of her and she was great in spots. Lea of course was the best- but she has sung that song a zillion times. But she always stops right before the end to go for the last night Every time. Barbra did it all in one breath which makes her stand out high above the rest.

Honestly going exclusively by these audio recordings and with no other frame of reference, I like them all, but in different contexts.
I’d gladly pay less $50 to see Beanie play this to a 350 seat house in a respectable regional theater production and I wouldn’t regret it at all.
I would love to sit at a small table, have a couple of cocktails, and watch Ephie perform a jazzy sort of rendition of this.
I would love to experience Lea Michelle singing this in a solo concert to a sold out house.
If I was going to see one of them interpret the role of Fanny Brice in a Broadway revival of Funny Girl, I’d want to go see Julie Benko.

Boy, how Beanie sucked. Good riddance. Julie is ok, have a tendency to talk-yell some passages too much (funny that the song is a half step higher than the others!). She nails the last note, it's the best last note of the four (although, we can't hear Lea's because everybody screaming). It's the first time I hear Ephie and she's very mannered with a much too fast vibrato, almost like a sheep. She has no sense of rhythm and her phrasing is just tasteless. Very bad choices. Lea is great. When she screams-talks, it comes from her soul, it's not fake like the others. You can feel she understands the character, her drive. She's the best suited for the role (based on that snippet). The only thing I wish someone will tell her : correct the glottal attack. It's distracting after a while and annoying. If she can correct it (and I'm sure she can), she will be perfection.

I feel like I just watched a different video than everyone else in the comments. Beanie really got bullied out of a perfectly good role by a bunch of Stans. Like are we just gonna ignore Lea singing the whole thing in the same Trans Atlantic dialect she sang the song with on Glee as opposed to sounding like, idk, Fanny?

The only actress in this bunch with maaaaybe the voice to pull this off is Lea Michele. Too bad it stands on such disgusting and reprehensible behavior.Julie and Ephie can sing, but for the demands of this score they are not Broadway Funny Girl material. Beanie is great, she has the comic timing, the charisma, and the acting talent, she just doesn't have the vocal chops to successfully sing these songs.
