Annaji, Sridhar and Jaya are 3 tailors who operate in very different spaces of the city. Yet they share the same set of skills. They found ingenious ways to survive. This film traces those stories of self-respect and pride. The tailors are a tribe which contributes to the maintenance of the city and its people. They are omnipresent.
A film by Purna, Himadri Das, Arvind Dev, Montry Thaalavattam, Karthik Murali and Ravikumar A.S

A very well made film, Purna! I remember we had a tailor who would come home and do alteration, what neat and skilled finish too! There was a tailor calling out recently during the lockdown, I hope he has gone back to his nook and taking care of this essential need of readapting and customizing of our daily and fashion wear.

Response from the Viewer...Excellent film! Really impressed with the tailor on wheels though really sad to know that he passed away! Loved the last lines too.. it’s so heartbreaking to see how important these skills still are in our society and yet it is not appreciated at all. Soon the scenario here will be like in the UK where for every alteration you either pay 50 pounds or you get three new items in that cost. I would send my son’s school trousers (which would get shorter in just 3 months of buying) for alteration to my friends in Porto. ( not through courier of course!! ) Thanks for sharing and good luck!

A wonderful film. Thanks so much for sharing, it was most interesting to learn about these crafts-people. They are doing an excellent job keeping clothes suitable for use. Here in the West people are more likely to throw things away and buy new ones. The waste is terrible.

Awesome short film, thank you Himadri and Purna for bringing out the nuances of this urban livelihood which is almost on the verge of extinction..the word tailor-made is interesting, as it can also be used for our cities as most of it is self made and not really designed..

What a beautiful and relevant film on a sustainable practice in its true sense! It brings to the fore a livelihood means of great value.
It also touches upon various challenges associated with small-scale repair industry including lack of resources, low-income, losing clientele, threats of infrastructure development, issues around gender and safety, all in just 7 minutes. Kudos to the whole team!

It’s a beautiful film Hemadri & Purna! Thank you for bringing these layers of society to everyone’s attention. The skilled people like these tailors were very common in past, fast getting lost in today’s metropolises. Good to see someone is documenting this. Hope to see more videos like 👍🏼

As I've said to Himadri, it was a jump back when I was studying urbanism. Infrastructural spaces are indeed places for important urban activities.

Interesting and very depressing. So there's no government organization or NGO helping them out. At least they are managing somehow, and providing a valuable service.

Well you will be surprised to know that tribe of alteration tailors is growing because of consumerism. People bring loads of clothes to them for alteration works.
