- On February 14th, my daughter Jaime Guttenberg was murdered at her High School in Parkland Florida. This day has forever transformed my family and our lives. Sadly, what happened to our family is no longer unique. My life since then has become a series of unique and unexpected moments with those who have been a long-time part of my life but also with many new relationships that only exist because of what happened to us. Fred Guttenberg’s professional life includes over a decade of experience in sales and management with Johnson and Johnson, followed by 15 years as an entrepreneur, having built a business that consisted of 19 Dunkin Donuts, which he sold in November 2016. Fred’s brother Michael was one of the original first responders during 9/11 at the WTC. Michael was with a team of doctors who got trapped in the WTC as it collapsed. Amazingly, the room that they hid out in did not collapse. As a result of the ground zero exposure, Michael was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which he battled, along with Fred’s help and support until October 2017, when he passed away. In February of 2018 he was actively looking for a new purpose when Fred and his family were again struck by another National American tragedy; only this one was far worse. His 14-year-old daughter Jaime, a freshman at Marjory Stone Douglas High School was one of 17 victims brutally murdered in the Parkland Florida school shooting. Very true. Very sad that other countries can tacklers problem and USA cannot. The surviving kids who are becoming activists, GOD BLESS THEM. They are the only hope we have that something will change. I am hopeful that with some young people CARING and making the effort, something will get better. I pray they continue to have strength to fight the good fight. Also, we all must become informed and vote, complacency is something I have been guilty of up until our country has become so divided in the last 7 or so years.

What a strong father. What a strong community. Parkland is still strong as the videos I’ve seen since of the high school, have shown. I probably will never meet these people but I always think about all of those kids and staff who were killed.

Very powerful speech. I support you and your cause in reducing gun violence and eliminating automatic rifles of any kind. I am devastated at the ruling yesterday of giving the Parkland shooter life in prison. We need legislation in all 50 states making it a death sentence when the evidence is clear of murder by use of guns and/or assault rifles.....
This country needs to get its priorities in order. Fred needs to run for office! Someone who KNOWS this pain WILL make a difference and he’s making a difference right now.
Presidents have limited power. They are not superheroes or fairy tail characters. Obama couldn't pass any change in gun laws restrictions after Sandy Hook because of the Republicans. I have learned that presidents are just an ornamental element in the political arena. There are more powerful people behind them running the show. Now, those politicians with genuine good intentions don't make it too far. Sadly I don't see a meaningful change in guns control in this country where mass shootings happens every day even if they are not reported.
It's incredible what people can do when grief is their fuel.

His goal is to tell you that even though he got justice for his daughters death that he isn't done now he's after your right to own a gun and violating your 2nd amendment

@@ABCDEF-no1cv he went to court with a jury of his peers and was sentenced for his crimes...if you feel he deserves more then blame the lawyers but here in Chicago there mother crying that there babies deaths are unsolved so I think the man needs to grieve and leave it alone...you can protest against gun violence that's his right but attacking wrecklessly through anger isn't smart to make a point especially when the government can't do anything about it

The tool doesn't matter. My brother was stabbed. My friend's brother was shot. The problem is people who use violence for purposes other than keeping people safe. And, no. Mr Guttenberg you do not need a uniform or a badge to be a decent person.
The irony is, the decent person in uniform and a badge failed to protect his daughter like they promised.

Being a victim doesn't make you a expert of the solution it makes you the expert of emotion. His outburst proved that. As a matter of fact, according to a study by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, guns in the hands of law abiding citizens _save_ an estimated 500,000 to _3 MILLION_ people each year. Compare those numbers to the average 10,000 gun murders each year and I hope you realize just how badly you are being lied to.

All of those countries have very strict restrictions on who can own a gun and because of this, civilian gun ownership is non-existent in those countries. And yet, all of those countries that I mentioned surpass the United states in gun murders each year! How is that possible? Meanwhile, in Switzerland, a country that has the same kind of permissive gun laws that the United States has, gun crime is almost non-existent! How is _that_ possible? Great Britain banned civilian ownership of guns as well and if you go to Google and search for gun crime in Britain you will see that it is up by 80% in the last 10 years. The only people who suffer with these gun bans is the regular citizen who cannot protect their own home and family from burglars and home invasions. The only people who suffer are those who are disarmed in the face of violent criminals who know that they can do whatever they want to those that they perceive to be weaker than themselves.

If your daughter was killed by a bomb or a knife. Do you blame the bomb or the knife? Maybe you should blame the person who did it instead.
