Her art is beyond human. She vibrates on a higher level and her work reflects that. I've never seen anything this vivid..this emotional in a long....ever! God Bless her.
As the daughter and granddaughter of artists and quilters I really appreciate seeing the transition of viewing quilts as utilitarian craft to being seen as the works of fine art that they are
WOW! I am so in aweee, motivated and inspired! I haven't touched my brushes, canvas, pad and pencils in way over 10yrs....I keep saying I will, will, I will but still haven't...but now! I really must! I would love to see her work in person! Side note: I am the first to comment on this post❤️ Sending love, positivity and all things great to each and everyone who may engage in this tread.
I came across her exhibition in Art Institute of Chicago by chance and ran to museum shop to find its book. It was so striking and monumental. In any method, technique or medium... her way of illustrating her subjects is one of the most striking example of portraiture in any sense, or era. This is a kind of art you have to see in person, both in craftmanship and context.
Yes, dear Ms Butler, we are all human beings. Your work is touching me so deeply as I watch this video. I am not a person of colour but I agree so much with what you are saying about people, about connecting unknowns to the present by honouring them in your work. Your work is beyond words yet how you explain it is equally as beautiful. You are a true artist. God bless. 🙏🥰
She tells so much, with something I as an American take for granted everyday... Fabric as a medium... Bisa Butler is a genius to say the least... To say the most, she has changed completely how and what I choose to evoke through my own art.
This video and informiation makes me teary eyed because my mother and her mother were great at making quilts. It is truly beautiful! She is so talented! Thank you Ms Butler
WOW Thank you Artist Bisa Butler for sticking with your choice art form, yes your work art & very important right up there with all the rest of them and should be a part of art & design studies. So wonderful indeed, I definitely, totally understand.
I'm such a HUGE fan of Ms. Butler's work. She's truly an inspiration. She accepted my invitation to connect on Linkedin a couple years back and I still haven't messaged her to say thank you. I'm a bit starstruck and don't actually know what to say. I enjoy working with textiles in my artwork too, but my pieces are nowhere near as stunning as what she does
My name is Maurice, but I am a white woman and an artist. Ms. Butler's art moves me to tears, so real, the colors, the beautiful fabrics, especially the people...all brought to life with her loving heart and hands!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ I only wish I could see them in person!!!!
So so SO lucky I got to see the Harlem Hellfighters piece at the Renwick/Smithsonian!!! Absolute masterpiece. It's really neat to see it as a WIP in this interview 🤩
The work induces thought. What words were spoken and influences made before black families decided to migrate north? A 1941 drive from North Carolina wasn't up the interstate. It was through towns and communities. Were they afraid? As they experienced "new" things, road signs and people, what did they think. Were they hungry? Were people kind to them? Did they see other families in their yards, clothes drying outside, the smell of salt marsh, smokestack, forest or backyard fires. Were their first encounters with northerners intriguing? Did they sense apprehension? Was there a conversation, words spoken that quelled fears. Did they experience promise?
If he didn’t have shoes, as I didn’t have shoes…my mother made us a pair of cotton shoes, twin brother and me during the rainy tropical unsaved roads for a Sunday with grandma to church.
I was able to see her exhibit at the Institute of Art in Chicago by chance while going to see the Obama Portraits in August 2021. I think she was a bigger draw than theirs.
Too much red against blue. Gimmicky. Plays the race and gender card to foist its importance. The new Candyman actually a greater artistic statement on race.
Your opinion is not worthy to be on the page of this art reflection! I am curious as to how much artistic flair you possess. Don't be jealous of the God given talent she has been given! YOU, need to be thankful that God even lets you breathe HIS air! I loathe ignorant, jealous bullies!
To say that her work is stunning is an understatement. There’s no word in the English language to describe how beautiful her art is.
BRAVO!!
You said it so well I totally agree with you❤❤❤❤❤
Her work is breathtaking, she is incredibly talented!! I also love the cause she is working for. Would love to see her work in person one day!
Her art is beyond human. She vibrates on a higher level and her work reflects that. I've never seen anything this vivid..this emotional in a long....ever! God Bless her.

In addition to her exceptional artwork, she also dresses wonderfully vibrantly.

I just can’t imagine how she creates these pieces! How does she get all of the color changes to create faces from fabric? Color me amazed!

Steve Conn, what colors of fabric would you choose for your quilted portrait?
