So there's a real difference? I always thought Neo soul was the modern name that kids who never bother to hear 90's R&B gave to the genre...So i was like "Ppl claims that ichika nito plays r&b but i dont feel its even close to It, more like Math rock thing"

Thank you Kerry! I'm a producer, who hasn't been playing guitar for almost 20 years (almost only keys when producing), but I always wanted to play R&B guitar. To my suprise, after watching just few tutorials, training for just few hours and learning just few chord shapes I'm able to play songs that I love listening to on my own! I'm actually shocked how many great songs can be played using simple 7th chords combined with some arpeggiation etc.

I love these lessons, man. This the original Curtis Mayfield style which is found not only in R&B, but also in Jimi Hendrix ("Little Wing") and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Under the Bridge"). If anybody was doing this stuff before Curtis, I don't know who it would have been. He was doing it in 1961 with the Impressions ("Gypsy Woman"), and he may have done it even earlier than that.

Just found you sir. This is the channel i been looking for. No one i ever followed knew songs I love and my wife loves like this. I played in many bands. Filled up the bar. But i always wanted to do r and b influenced stuff but everyone just was doing the indie thing 08 in college bar scenes.
Played in school bands and majored in music in college. I joined a band instead of graduating and hit it. That made me short on my theory. You teach the theory and the cool stuff. Gotta have both! Cheers ill be around! Good stuff bro. Keep making shit, ill keep putting in the work.

I’m exactly not on chords just yet but I’m trying to keep myself progressive through one finger playing riffs if that makes sense bc/ the stretch of my fingers aren’t there just yet. So I stay away from chords bc/ of it rn. I don’t get that whole 1 finger stretch that shows when you’re showing the chords on the scale...could you possibly explain that to me??
Also I learned a little bit of Cleo Sol - Young Love but I’d also like to see songs from her like Her Light & Sideways played by someone. I love your soul selection btw. I’ve never come across a guitar player whose been on songs to the T for R&B songs.

You said no matter what what you always play in a Major even if the song is in minor.
How can this be? What is your thinking as major is a happy tone, and major is a sad tone.?
I think of that clashing like
A Walt Disney Funny Carton at a real funeral... A big musical CLASH !

I got a good old tune for you Kerry, I would love to pick this up, not sure if you want to tackle it, but here goes, it's a tune called "No Matter What" by a group called "Pleasure" if you remember them, I've done the bass to it, but I find myself wondering about the guitar work involved, since I'm really getting into my guitar work now, what do you think, can you handle this one? I'd really love to see you break this one down and the education that this one could yield, has to be ridiculously phenomenal..
