I made a mistake at around 1:00 when I say "The US did not have a Navy". The United States did have a Navy that was created in 1775 during the American Revolution. What I was referring to was the fact that after the American Revolution they sold/got rid of all their ships due to a lack of funding. In response to the raids by Barbary pirates, the United States created the Navy Act of 1794, which funded the rebuilding of the navy. Sorry for the confusion I did not explain that part well.

Dude You got so much wrong First they were not pirates these where Nations led by the Ottoman Empire, What sparked a wiff of war is when US ambassadors went to England to find out why these nations kept attacking US ships. The Tripolitan Ambassador said cause the Koran tells me too. This prompted Washington in a letter to the Lafayette to write, "Want that we had a navie we could bring them back to Humanity or crush them into non existence." Jefferson who did not believe the Tripolitan Ambassador bought a Kran and had it translated.Which proved that the Tripolitan Ambassador was right. When Jefferson became Pres. the Five Islamic states (Morocco, Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli and the Ottoman Empire.) Declared war against the US. At this point Jefferson did not need Congress because war was declared against the US. This was a war Because of Islam. Tell the truth next time.

@@AABloodyAA Nope, they acted like aggressive nations. And yes it did happen. and yes the Quran does say to make war against the kafir and to them as slaves.“Kill them [unbelievers] wherever you find them… And fight them until there is no more unbelief and worship is for Allah alone” (Quran 2:191-193).
“Strike off their heads and strike from them every fingertip” (Quran 8:12).
“Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties; in exchange for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they slay and are slain” (Quran 9:111).
If these were really just pirates a treaty would not be needed. Nor would the leader of tripoli need to surrender. Yes, the five nation did declare war most pulled out when the US decided to engage the war not pay tribute. .

@@AABloodyAA It had everything to do with that Fed up religion. The others knew they could not win. So they knew to bide their time. Second if was piracy why did the five declare war. It was only after William Eaton tore through with his Marines that Islamic nations. We have records that show it was the Tripolitan navy. Not some pirate in his pirate ship. Islam has always fought with the non delivers. even using shading tactics like "Islam is just a religion of peace." The ottomans Who were the ones in charge could not afford drawing the old European Nations into it. Look I know you want to believe that Islam is kind and nice but the end goal is to turn (by force if necessary) all the wold to Islam.

Some estimates have over a million Europeans sold into slavery just during the late colonial period. They raided the coasts of Spain, Italy, Sicily, and even went as far as England. So they basically were doing exactly what the Turks, Arabs, and Moors did since the 7th century.

Thia gets into a lot of information about Jefferson, Madison. They both handled this war and extending US naval power out into the world stage. Costly to finance active ships in the Med, but more costly not to have American shipping not protected and not taken seriously by other world powers like England and France. Jefferson could wield power when he wanted to. Great to show in class!!!

    Bit of advice:
If you don't even mention things like "Who were the people called barbary pirates?" "Where were they from?" "Why did they engage in piracy?" that's pretty much what people would call whitewashing or eurocentric history, because instead of talking about history, you focus on the efforts and identities of a single group (americans and europeans) without the full context or full cast of actors.
The style of the video is nice, but seriously lacking in content and depth.
