Allison, I don’t know how to send you a message, so just writing here. I also have arthritis and I find when I grip the hook with my thumb after a while it hurts. I purchased ‘crochet grips’. As is I don’t like them but I found if I cut them just to cover the thumb area they work great!
sound a good idea, I found the Addi swing max hook shape amazing i have been using them for a week and so far have been able to crochet longer and my hands and fingers don't hurt quite so much.

I’m using US distributed I Love This Yarn, 100% acrylic, medium 4, with a 5.00mm H hook. Is this making the stitch too tight or am I going back into the “gaping hole” when making the 4 loops? Sorry this is so long! Thank you for any advice.

yes you can, the left is for left handed people. Some find it difficult following the right handed tutorials on RUclips. All my left handed versions have a right handed tutorial on my channel. I am just catering for those who need it.
