For sound/noise measurements, consider getting a calibrated mic (not too expensive) to measure the whole frequency spectrum (not just SPL) so you can objectively point out if the sound spectrum is uniform or if it has peaks at any frequencies (some being more annoying than others). A slightly louder SPL may not be worse if the frequency spectrum is smoother.
This is a great idea and I had read about sound having different frequencies but wasn't sure what I needed to get to measure it. Hi Danny, thanks for these great videos. One potential flaw I see with the clean air delivery scores for smoke is that the test results will vary depending on filter age. I wonder how these small carbon filters go in the tests if they were tested a few months after being used 24/7. Do you know if this is considered in the official testing?
I beleive they only test with new filters and I am sure those smaller filters will reduce performance over time . IQAir doesn't agree with CADR in a big part that they don't show long term performance which they say overly benefits devices from Blueair that use low grade filters in combination with ionizers. I have tested HEPA overtime have not seen a a big drop in particle performance with a used filter unless the pre-filter is very dirty. But there is very little carbon in most air purifiers, especially low cost devices so they are likely going to need replacing often and might become used up very quickly. I do want to test for VOC (gas)removal with spefiic air purifiers devices but the sensors available are currently very inaccurate so waiting for the technology to catch up.
It’s super annoying , did you see if eBay had any? Also there are other names for the same air purifier that are available in Walmart if your base in the US.
