- This video focuses on the March 27, 2023 NYS&W Utica NY local including street running, switching and a few shove moves. Witold, my dog, once again accompanied me. He's a stalwart fellow.
The video opens with a long view of the freight making its way southbound down Utica's Schuyler Street. Following scenes show the Susquehanna local, with leased CSX GP38-2 providing the power, on former West Shore and New York, Ontario & Western tracks.
The video also features a look at the delivery of a bulkhead flat to Di Highway, a customer at the very end of the New York Mills industrial trackage.
As mentioned in the video, here's the link to the excellent drone video by my friend orvillespooner1 retracing the route of the West Shore from Herkimer County to Clark Mills in Oneida County: • West Shore Historical ...
I enjoy your video's and always like seeing Vito. I was born and raised in the Utica area and now live in Cleveland Tennessee.
Great video have a blessed day.
Thanks for the mention and the link to my video! So relaxing watching these scenes. Soon I will be crossing these locations on bicycle as the weather improves.
I love watching trains on lightly used old Spurs, It's their way of telling us that they're not dead yet!
love the fact that as the train approaches a cat runs across the tracks in front of it.
Viewing from Yorkshire, England. I love watching the street running. Nothing like that in the UK.
Thanks for another interesting video on servicing customers. I also like seeing Witold accompany you on your rambles. My Miniature Chihuahua Peanut sat on my lap as I watched this, now and then barking at your voice. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Greetings from Tonawanda NY 🥶 Where winter refuses to leave 🥶
Hey great videos, thanks for sharing 👍
Brings back so many memories. Here in Utica and also miles down I lived in Carthage N.Y. The train moved through Lowevill, Booneville and headed toward Utica an beyond.
Fantastic video, Interesting train journey through the city area, and shunting work
Excellent rail video!
Damn thoose tracks are wobbbely
I've recently started following your channel and when I saw CSX 2514, I had to think to myself, like that number sounds so familiar. Then I put it together and 2514 was the last four numbers on the license plate of my old work van I used to drive from my old delivery job delivering car parts to body shops and mechanic shops. I just thought that was so cool when I saw that CSX engine number.
It's the little strange things in life that make it so special.
Awesomeness! I Love street running or even within feet off the Streets or Roads! Looks like a GP38-2 from CSX! We have had CSX 2548 here in Maine for months, and Love having it regularly!
Great video. I loved the long zoom shots on Schuyler St. Thought the garbage truck had had it! And always enjoy the details of the switching - it never seems the same way twice.
The driver did seem to be just a bit in a hurry to move his truck!
Super video from Okeechobee Florida.
Hi, nice to watch everyday life in the States around the Railroad and thanks for posting. I notice the Super-elevation of the Track around that first curve after the street-running (4 mins.) The Train really leans-over into it.
I was in Chanatry's parking lot when it went by with a single boxcar.
that was a very clean engine..
Enjoyed the video! Good to see Witold on the job!
He’s a keen observer of all things rail!!
Hi from Norwich
Great switching video with some cool street running. Hopefully your group is able to restore that tower, (Jenny)
Great video! Love watching the switch action.
Great video, great write up. We really love watching your videos and hearing what you have to say. It is amazing how much things keep changing all around. Good to see Witold. Take care, and keep safe. Watching from south of Columbus, Ohio.
Thanks for your kind words, nice hearing from you as always!
Great video! Thanks for sharing the info on the "ghost tracks" and the remnants of the DL&W passenger station. Too bad it couldn't be saved like the watch tower.
Good day from Pittsburgh pa
Belle desserte fine, pour client final.... même un seul wagon !
26:50 You know that street running is becoming ordinary railroad activity when your brain says "Hey look! A squirrel!"
Lol, I noticed the squirrel after I watched the video after it was finished processing. I believe it made it safely across Schuyler Street!
I likedthis
All those little Railway sections that both New England in the midwest had in common going somewhere where they thought the business would be. They certainly Were A Step Above horse and wagon but once the good roads were in place there just wasn't enough to support the railroad. Thanks for describing the connections and "who was going where" track layout. I still marvel at the Iowa map Circa 1915 and except for a small section on the Southwest part of the state you couldn't go five miles without crossing a track. Even then I looked up some towns out east and they had tracks going 6 to 8 directions and some are completely wiped out. PS. BFI garbage truck versus CSX locomotive the battle of the blue paint surpassed by the only dog that gets tired taking naps
👍
23:25 Whenever I see this view of the tracks I always think the tracks look very wavy.
They look extremely up & down, and crooked. 🤪🤪 😂😂
I thought the same thing!😆
I've never seen any trains come by, no matter how long I wait for my mom outside Chanatry's!
Lol, usually you’ll see them between 9-12 M-F.
I was looking on Google Earth and couldn't see the siding section where they switched the cars around the 7:00 mark. And same on street view dated October 2015, but it shows up in the image from September 2017. I thought I was looking at the wrong spot but I guess they only built that section sometime after Oct 2015.
Oh man. It’s bad when a black cat crosses in front of the train.
Good eye! Fortunately, disaster didn’t strike!
Wow don't know how I missed this video but I'm glad I found it!
Good Evening from Southern California!
I have a few questions I'd like to ask if you don't mind answering
Three guys to operate this hookup, the railroad can't be happy about that.
Awsome videos!!! Would you happen to know if there's a specific schedule for these deliveries or when a train would likely be running on this street? I am currently in Utica close by for the next two weeks and was hoping to catch the train in person on that street!
All I can tell you is that they could be on Schuyler Street any day M-F between 9-11, it all depends on the amount of switching the crew has to do in the yard. Good Luck!
By any chance would you know of any info regarding the west shore crossing Tilden Ave through East Utica ? Specifically maps and photos ?
where exactly was that little station located?
Doed McGrath still take cars?
Thanks.
Thanks for an informative video. I always wondered where the trains went once they left the streets .
Why railway tracks are laid on the middle of the ordinary road, without any fencing?
There are people and other cars running around. Anytime anywhere anyone can be injured, any casualty can happen.
This is a really bad example of town planning and irresponsible government.
Oh I know, I think they should also put lots of bubble wrap and cotton wool around for people too so they don't get an owie.
