But take a look at the history of Nebraska. from their start untill the 40's Nebraska has 5 undefeated season then had 20 years of loosing seasons until Devany took over. People don't realize how deep & wide Nebraska's recruiting network was. They had people with no ties to NU all over doing the leg work for the fun of it. Then they had a system of developing an OL that ensured a constant mature, talented OL. The bad coaching change coincided with Mack Brown's new push on early commits, then they seemingly lost everything over night. They lost confidence & reputation with they were spanked 70-10 in Lubbock. Matt Rhuel is the kind of coach to get them back due to his belief in system/process.

Josh hit this right out the ballpark! It would be great to see all of those programs he mentioned back on top, especially Miami. Miami, as much as everybody wants to hate on them, should be on top of the college football world along with the Alabama's and Georgia's. College football hasn't been the same without them and to be perfectly honest, I think that a lot of Miami haters fear a resurgent Miami program because it would affect other programs because a lot of the players that decided not to go to Miami who are from the South Florida area have gone out of state to other programs to help those programs become better. Look at OSU, UGA, Alabama, etc.
Across the board those programs have many players from the South Florida area. Also, as Josh stated, it didn't help that the UM administration allowed for the OB to be torn down. That was the knife in the back that solidified this programs death. Nothing has been the same since then. Let's just hope that at some point in time they will build this program their own stadium because it does make a huge difference in a program's identity.

Miami won't get out of its own way as long as Crystalballs is coaching. Miami is like an elevator operator who can't remember the route. They don't know how to properly evaluate, develop and maximize the talent they recruit. FSU had 12 players invited to the Combine: 8 of whom were HS recruits and the other 4 were transfers. They were blowing up the field tests starting with Braden Fiske, 6-4, 291lb DT who ran a 4.78 40. Trey Benson 216lb RB, 4.38 40. Jared Verse, 6-4, 254lb DE, 4.58 40. Kalen DeLoach 6-0, 210lb LB, 4.47 40. Renardo Green, 6-0, 186lb DB, 4.49 40. Jarrian Jones, 6-0, 190lb DB, 4.38 40. Jaheim Bell TE, 6-2, 241 lb, 4.61 40.
Miami had two safeties at the Combine, Kam Kinchens and James Williams, who both ran a 4.65 40 which was the slowest time among all safeties. Numbers don't lie.

Yes, Pelini won 9+ games every yr, but if you peel back the layers you'd find the same thing over and over. 2 of our 3 losses would be nasty blow outs and the third loss would be what I called a 'Bo Fart' game - losing to an underdog like IA St, a team we had no business losing to. When you have that same resume for 6 yrs, it is time to do better. Unforunately the AD's idea of better was Mike Riley. Total opposite of Bo, but not better. We've been spiraling out of control since then. Rhule has us back on track.

Of these teams mentioned, only TN has been back, to at least a blowout win in a NY6. Nebraska's issue is where it is. Until they start winning at a high level, it's hard to recruit in that area. VA Tech is a matter of money spent in recruiting and Miami is just cursed. I think Miami would be better than they ever have been if they were in the SEC. You look at a team like Mizzou and they didn't get better until they got in the SEC. So many players with talent have bone to Miami and I don't know if it's just been the coaching but there is an SEC biased for players to go to the SEC over the ACC. If the Big 10 is going to have 18 teams, the SEC needs to get it in gear and try and lure some of these good ACC teams to the SEC. FSU, Miami, Clemson, UNC.

Like Pate says, you are what your record says you are - but then also caveats that the record is not always the whole story and that is why Mullen was let go. Its well-known Mullen did not put the effort into recruiting that was needed to maintain 9+ wins and build to consistently 10+ and conference title contention.

The Louisville disrespect is crazy…Beat Virginia Tech head to head, VaTech aint been relevant since Mike Vick and they are a sleeping giant? That’s the worst team Brohm is gonna have and he took them to the ACC title game after being in the Big Ten title game the previous year. Killing the transfer portal but never mentioned. Louisville was never a giant...also VT was relevant for about a decade after Vick.
      2001-2011 VT was 110-37
3 ACC titles, two other division titles (two acc champ appearances) they went to 5 NY6 bowls. Nine 10 plus win seasons...that wasn't relevant?
When has Louisville operated on that level? They don't belong in the same breath as Tennessee, VT, Nebraska and Miami.
Brohm is a good coach and I'm sure you will continue to be good under him...but sorry, you're Louisville. You don't have a national title ceiling.

Miami won every title by cheating more than any other program at the time. Now that every program can play players what advantage does Miami have? They are a small private school with no on campus stadium and a tiny fan base.

Nebraska will never be a true national power again. They can be better. They can win 8 or 9 wins regularly. They can bubble up ever now and then and win double digits, but consistently being top 5 year over year - that is a thing of the past.

Sleeping giants or has beens of a bygone era. CFB is changing too rapidly to use past success as a predictor of the future. I would have put Texas, FSU, LSU and UM on the list given their recruiting footprint. Actually, LSU should be great every year given the lack of competition within their state.

    • @PallahDaOracle
      @PallahDaOracle 3 месяца назад +1

UM? Michigan? They just won the title lololol
LSU never really went anywhere. Just won a title in 2019 and just had back to back 10 win seasons.
FSU just went 13-1 and Texas just made the playoffs. Back.
Tennessee didn't really belong on this either because in 2022 they were ranked No.1 at one point, won the orange bowl and went 11-2. If not for one of the more flukey games ever against South Carolina they are in the playoff. They are back.
They're all back in my book, unless you need to win a title to be "back"

Nebraska and Tennessee both suffer from poor instate talent pool... Nebraska in particular (skill positions). Southern black players stay home more nowadays because interracial dating is the norm now as opposed to what it was in the 80s and 90s when non-southern schools were more accepting of it. Tennessee has to be a top 5 progum (Bama/UGA like) to draw recruits outside their borders from other southern states. Other top southern schools have large recruiting bases within their state.
