I've accidentally found your channel when looking up some Sanderson stuff. A week later, I've binge watched everything you've put up and gosh I need more. I love the way you so concisely put everything out there, and your theories are also super interesting to consider. Keep it up! Can't wait for the Scadrial videos!
A smart sandling would let the sun dry a human out first, but most of their prey are other sandlings and most of them aren’t shown to be very smart. A DelRak does die when it ate a live Kershtian assassin (at least in the prose version). Concerning slatrificafion: Brandon had said that he regretted adding this feature to the magic system and that he'd like to turn it into a in-world legend rather than something that is actually possible. Slatrification wasn’t even meant to be in White Sand GN Volume 1 but slipped in; that was edited out in the omnibus edition.
Arent the microorganisms also on Sel? I remember it mentioned when I read Elantris. They were cleaning New Elantris of muck and grime from the buildings and Raoden mentioned that it was actually the microorganisms all over that had died when the investiture from Dor shut off.
I don't think the slime in Elantris feeds off investiture the way the lichen on White Sand does. They function differently, so I doubt they're related other than superficially.
one thing about why the sandlings would eat water-filled humans but not water-filled vines. I image that it's easier to get your water in single large gulps with no spillage (therefore no carapace damage) than by grabbing what is essentially part of a hose filled with water, ripping it open and hoping that the water doesn't spray their shell.
I love the blocks on the table. In fact... I'm going to have to rewatch the whole video. I have no idea what you've said, I've just been looking at the art and your book collection the whole time. Haha.
I think the sand Hoid uses in Warbreaker is just sand; given that he also gets leaves and ash and stuff I think he's just pulling stuff from pockets. It wouldn't really be worth pouring out for a random story, especially considering how hard it is to get to Taldain right now.
It is very unlikely that a distant star can give enough investure to make the sand renew. It is probably either soulcasting or lightweaving (he has bonded a cryptic)
That was remarkably informative. I feel like Bavadin had multiple personality disorder before ascending. Great video, cool edits and I always love your humour. Can't wait for Scadrial deep dives.
If the white dwarf is indeed also Autonomy, it would make sense it's light also can be used to "charge" investiture. So, then darkside would indeed have access to investiture. Though it would either be less strong or takes longer to "charge".
Glad you like it! My sister-in-law does custom shirts sometimes and she made that for my birthday. She used to have an online storefront, but it was just a hobby and she eventually took it down.
i've never read White Sand but after learning about Autonomy in the first two and a half minutes of this video i'm scared to continue watching cause im so damn interested in this particular shard. Really wanna continue but now that my interest is peaked and think ill have a read i'm afraid of spoilers :(
There is a spoiler in this video, but I believe I marked it out. It's worth reading White Sand anyway, either the graphic novel or the prose version you can get from Brandon's newsletter.
The intent remains the same, the ability is the same, but the skill increases. We see a similar thing happen in Mistborn, which is also a fixed system.
Ok after hearing about the ruler of the dark side of the planet, my mind immediately went somewhere kinda fun. What if the emperor turned out to be Rashik, the former Lord Ruler from Skadrial? Like he managed to get all the way here and set himself up as a ruler again, only now he knows not to be such a dick about it. There's probably chance this is true, but until it's revealed otherwise, that's my headcanon.
Unfortunately, not possible. White Sand takes place WAY before Mistborn, and considering all the other laws of physics that Brandon very carefully obeys, I don't think he's going to make time travel to the past possible. Also, have you read Secret History? It's unlikely Rashek could undo what happens after he enters the Cognitive Realm.
@@cameronsingletary8941 sorry, I didn't put it the right way, it's just that i discovered recently what a graphic novel and i thought that there are other people who are not familiar with it. I haven't read any, i prefer audiobooks, so i'm waitong for an audiobook version myself ^^

About sandlings, the sandling that ends up eating one of the assassin actually dies/dissolved from her blood. I am personally thinking those sandlings hunt other sandlings, which would mean your theory could make sense that they eat investiture, since the other sandlings are also filled with investiture.
Here’s a massive question. Just this year I discovered my fantasy world was actually connected to several other worlds in a universe sorta thing. So, dealing with something vaguely Cosmere-ish, I’ve started really wondering more than ever-how did Sanderson form something so massive and (what’s more) interconnected? I’ve got a good start but he’s still far beyond me. 😛 How would you reverse engineer Sanderson’s process? (Start with shards? Lol) Maybe a future video subject?
He supposedly had this idea when reading books as a young boy in which secondary or even less important characters in different sagas where the same that traveled btw worlds. Then he also writted a story that was in a plannet that was HUGE and had all kind of magic systems and species and gods. But it was too much. So it ended up being like the super proto story that he ended up dividing into different worlds. He basically took parts of that huge world and reshaped them into their own ones... and then he took those ones and remixed and polished them until he liked what he wrote. Or that's what I've read about it
That sounds like a question to ask Brandon himself. If you send him a message on Reddit or Facebook, he's usually pretty good at replying if he has time.
If you haven't read his non-cosmere works, they're totally worth it. The Reckoners series (starting with Steelheart), The Rithmatist, the Alcatraz series, Legion, and all of his short stories are really great. If you want to be able to say you've read EVERYTHING Sanderson has published, Wheel of Time should be on your list as well.
I don't think it was officially retconned, just that Brandon WISHES he could turn it into an in-world legend. At the moment the graphic novels are canon, but if they ever release White Sand as a prose novel, he'd probably change it.
That's a pretty good impression of Kenton at the start of the video...
Well, I do try...
Nightblood on Taldain:
I'm going to absorb the power of this whole star. Oops, double dark side.
Would Nightblood just be able to chill on Dayside casually absorbing sunlight? Nightblood = photosynthetic.
@@TheCosmerenaut Could Nightblood grow some little baby Nightbloods with all that investiture and intent?

The sand he uses there isn't Taldain sand; just colored sand he had in his pockets.
