- Braun holds a product design competition every year in Frankfurt, Germany. They invited me this year to check it out, and it turns out they might be the inspiration for a ton of Apple's iconic products. Let me explain.

I'm a current industrial design student and I found this to be amazingly insightful. Thanks for sharing this!
Everybody has his source of inspiration and that is something respectable. The point is this spark you take to push it through your vision and make it happen even better...I really liked this video.
Thank you very much
For everyone telling me how to pronounce Braun. In the States, Braun's own commercials have always pronounced it the way I did in the video so that's how Americans pronounce it. See this commercial for an example :) - www.ispot.tv/ad/wjBi/braun-moments-that-matter
That for cleaning the sure caught my attention, extremely clever marketing cleaning the air.
Nice video and liked as always man
Very informative.. guy is a legend.. Thanks for sharing about him
This was actually interesting. Got something more to know about Braun.
Hey this was really interesting! :)
love it.
Germany without me?!🤨 heehee... I'm going next month!😉🦄
I will watch this till 2019, which is about after 10 min.
The true inspiration for the calculator was the Omron 86. Braun started with the ET11 calculator and used Omron as OEM, and they only changed the plastic colour. The Omron set the design language for Brauns follow up calculators. So Dieter was stealing ideas as well. No problem, all designers do, but give credit for the original when possible. Dieter still gives many designers a morning wood, but it makes us sloppy when doing historic story telling.
Nice video the only thing I have and to complain over are how you pronounce Braun it not baon but the same as the english pronasment of brown white the R more Ra sondring.
Braun is german for brown
In the US we've been taught to pronounce it like that by Braun themselves. See this commercial for an example - In the States their own commercials pronounce it that way so that's how Americans pronounce it. See this for an example - www.ispot.tv/ad/wjBi/braun-moments-that-matter
In Australia we've also pronounced it as if it rhymed with prawn. Americans aren't the only one. Another great video, Dave.
Great video! More of this please 😉
Hl tahnk you
Braun its not Bron but the same as the english pronouncement of brown. BRAUN. Anyway, thanks for the video, interesting as always.

@@TheUnlockr I see what they did. It sounds more.. American. Or less European. But rest of the world is DEFINITELY Braun. Thanks for the proof. :)
Why doesn't Braun design computer shit now ???? Why does it have to be kitchen, bathroom, grooming and radio type devices ????
German creativity
😘 nic
I like you more and more.
Thank you!
Coincidence only not inspired
Not according to Johnny Ive
I really like this channel but come on, it only takes a few seconds to write "braun" in google translate and have it pronounce it. The fact that you don't speak the language is no excuse when checking the pronunciation is so quick and painless.

But but, everybody copies Apple! 😭🤣😜
The big difference being that Apple products have a very low failure rate. Braun's not so much. Very high failure rate.
Braun produced their best until 1989 so this is why …!!! But they invented industrial design
Am I actually the only one who doesn't give a damn shit about design?
I am sooooo pissed off by the recent developments regarding laptop design with the "ever thinner" bullshit that jeopardizes the functionality of the devices (heat management, performance, serviceability, etc all got worse just to have a "hip" slim design). All the design bullshit changed "form follows function" into "from is more important than function" :(
