This is goofy, but also infuriating. I work as a musician and many of my friends are artists, and this kind of shot happens ALL THE TIME in the art world. People don’t want to pay you what your worth and then try and assassinate your character when you turn them down.

One thing a number of fellow artists I've talked to about the subject of AI art has said is "The kind of clients who would rather go to an AI than pay an artist for their work are probably the kind of clients I would end up regretting working with."

You're completely correct, and if an artist chooses to decline a commission, it is perfectly acceptable for that declined individual to just get AI art instead. Not the fault of the artist, but a logical next step.

This is why I stopped doing art for the public. In my area minimum wage is over 15 an hour, and no one I've met is willing to pay me that wage for art. Now I just do it for my own hobbies and close friends and couldn't be happier.

As an artist, it warms my cynical dead heart to know that now instead of people calling me a douche or saying my art isn't that good when I reject commissions, there can now be random crazy assholes that will try to ruin my reputation and livelihood just because I want to value my skills more.

So you may not be surprised to know that there are issues between traditional artists and people who use digital methods. The main issues come up when people who use digital try to claim or don't clarify that their art is digital.
More recently though, there has been a lot of uproar around people using AI generating tools to create coloring pages or full coloring books. The issues people are having include it being unfair to small coloring book manufacturers who put a lot of time into their work, the price for the book being the same as other coloring books even though it cost way less to produce, and people generally not trusting ai or are just against digital art mediums.
I honestly love this interaction. I don't support the behavior but I do find it hilarious. I just imagine eggman from sonic writing these emails and using his unique vocabulary.

Nonprofit execs seem to often be unhinged. My sister worked for one once and her boss was one the most evil person I have ever even heard about. She sounded almost just like this guy based on the stories I've heard.
I think some people work in non-profit organizations to make themselves feel better or feel morally above others so when they do shitty things they can use the non-profit as a "get out of jail free card" for being mean/bad.

yeah, seems like a lot of people want art until they realize they have to pay artists fairly. which is why so many companies have art "contests"... they can get a ton of artists to submit work without having to pay any of them. don't fall for it, young artists! your labor has value!

@@newp0rt Eh truth be told it's almost always the winners who get there name out there, most people outside other artists won't really care who made the other pieces even if they think the art is nice. I always personally like the rare few contest from massive companies that at least give little participation prizes even if it's only like $1 of in game company or when indie games have a winner but also mention the other contestants in the special thanks section in the credits or just even just individually thank contestants. Shows that at least they are paying attention and cared that you did art for them.

Having watched the clip on the Moist Charlie Clips channel about this topic before watching this video reminds me of that feeling of doing the pre-reading homework set before next days class.
This is a pretty text book example of how a narcissistic person tries to get their way. I've had a friend go off like this, no one buys it. It's got to be weird to be an artist right now. To be both fascinated by what an AI can do with art and worried that human artists will be replaced sooner rather than later.
A lot of my friends are still getting a good amount of commissions and I hope people continue to see past bs and pay Independant artists instead of using ai or whatever. I'm hopeful as of now
I don’t think it has to be as polar as some people think. I think AI can become a useful tool if artists are willing to integrate it into their work. We’re looking at a John Henry situation at the moment and we can either die fighting the machine like he did or we can adapt.

Crazy festival organisators ARE A THING, and it scares me. I run into a crazy couple like that when i wanted to help improve local anime con, which to be honest was more like gathering, not a fest. I first asked them very polite if they even need ideas and critisism, because i noticed things that they could improve, as i recently visited conventions in Europe and i had an image to compare their con to. Although they openly agreed to hear me out it was not to hear my suggestions, but to let me speak so they can verbally attack me. After that i quickly learned that they offended and attacked many previous people who attended their gatherings. The reason their festival was so bad was not money, or lack of helping hands. It was simple their mindset. They didnt need to improve for their visitors, since they only probably saw them as cash bags. I learned the hard way not to offer help to someone who didnt ask. But i was still young at the time and their random out-of-nowhere anger and sailor type cursing terrified me so much, i was anxious that they could do something bad to me, like stalk or beat me up. Weebs, I was afraid of WEEBS.
WHAT!? Narcisistic greedbags cashing in on hobies that people enjoy and not showing any passion for anything other than their wallets? In this day and age with every single IP being totally respected and making their respective fandoms happy? Nooooo couldn't be.

As an artist I sometime feel like people think that making art is just something I’m predisposed to do- like I turn off my brain and just copy what i see but no I’m making critical decisions during all 40+ hours I put into an art piece

When you run a film festival, literally an art festival, and outsource any artistic part of it to AI, you should be laughed at and never taken seriously in any artistic endeavor ever again.

@@botcore sure, events specifically for AI or AI vs human, that would be interesting for sure. An event built around human made art shouldn't use AI for any artistic purpose, its taking more ey away from artists and wreaks of profit-first mentality. If they want to use AI for logistics, structure, safety, information distribution, that makes sense. I'm not saying the existence of AI art is inherently a problem nor am I saying it should be illegal to use AI art in this situation, just that its a shitty thing to do.

I need to know what Charlie is looking at while he does his summaries of situations. If he's not reading a bullet point list or summation he's written, I'm impressed. Few if any people recognize Charlie's effortless summaries, including deadpan comical commentary.
I sold my art online wholesale through several sites for about three years, and it was the worst three years of my life. I had thought, artists, how troublesome could they be? They’re like, doves of the world. And the gallery buyers… don’t even get me started. Sad awakening. I did do well, but made myself exhaustively sick because of it. I think it was the 12 mosaic violins ordered from an art shop in Hong Kong that did it.
