      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy You deserve recognition, you have a very good ability to describe things properly as they are for everyday people..
      My story is I’ve been running 20-33 miles a week which has helped correct my collapsed Lumbar vertebra diagnosed 5 yrs ago. Been told no more running but I would be far worse without it along with sand bag deadlifts power yoga time trial cycling which has created a scaffold of strength around the spine, lots of pain ups & downs lasting years at times with nerve compression affecting my bowels too & energy etc etc.
      But I am on top of it at the moment & managed two half marathons in 1HR 46 mins aged 50.
      All is great at the moment, barring daily lower back manipulation to correct occasional alignment issues but after 10 mins yoga I feel spot on as I did in my 30’s.
      Along with a low cellular inflammation ‘whole food’ plant based diet I rarely get muscle soreness / stiffness as I used to have while eating meat & dairy & always have full range of motion as far as the distorted spine will allow other joints are fine, I also have mild inherited Lordosis, sigh;-)..
      So to the point suddenly while on a recovery run not over training doing low heart rate training the back of my knee started to ache & a sort of funny bone tingling almost ice cream headache feeling / pressure in the joint, it was not like a muscle strain more like something invading the inside.
      So for the first time ever I had to start walking the rest of the way home, walking created no pain (luckily).
      A week later I have this persistent swelling behind my knee like an elongated bubble, not massive but noticeable visually.
      After resting for 3 days doing mobility the swelling is still there, I decided to run a bit since the joint has no pain & I have full range of motion without any pain at all only very quiet clicks that come & go & way less since on the plant diet.
      It’s just this soft swelling but the tendons etc are fully functional.
      That is when I figured Bakers cysts Yikes:-0..:
      I ran yesterday and the swelling is half the size so I assume the fluid, if it is that? Went back into the joint?.
      Very worrying and after nearly 6 years since scoliosis diagnosis aiming to conquer my 20 yrs of landscaping related Lumbar damage I am now facing possibly a damaged knee cartilage?. You try to fix one thing and the strain on other parts in doing that has resulted in the knee protesting. It’s like balancing plates, ha..
      No pressure on you, but would you advise an x-ray to start?..
      Thanks again for the very informative video.:-)..

It will go come and go. I’m sort of paranoid of it popping now. Hopefully I can work on my knee and that doesn’t happen. Kind of unsure what I should do to make sure it doesn’t ever pop

    Do you have a video on exercises to do for a Baker's cyst?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 года назад +1

      Hey Barbara! Great question!
      Glute strength is most important to develop to help take pressures off the knee joint and help a Baker's Cyst. Here are exercises to start doing:
      "Top 5 Glute Muscle Exercises For Knee Pain"
      ruclips.net/video/NXdCjT2QtJA/видео.html
      You've got to keep in mind that a Baker's Cyst may never fully go away. The reasonable expectation you should look for is to get it under control so that you don't have knee pain and it doesn't get worse. It may shrink a bit, but there may always be some minor swelling in the area due to the ligaments that were stretched out on the back of the knee.
      Does that make sense?
      If you're looking for a more comprehensive set of exercises that would help your knee, then you should look into the 28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program.
      It's a 100% online, on-demand program led by Dr. David where he teaches you exercises, concepts and gives all his best advice on how to get your knee healthy enough to avoid surgery, injections and medications.

    I had no knee problems or pain at all until I injured my knee. X-ray showed no fracture or arthritis. MRI showed complex meniscus tear, bone bruise & a Baker's Cyst. My ortho says my knee is a mess! Extreme pain still after 9 wks. My DR said If I were younger I would've had surgery already. I see no solution to my dilemma. DR mentioned maybe a cortisone shot. A nightmare.

    Who is it best to see if you think you possibly have a Baker's cyst behind both knees? Pain has persisted for 1 mo. It seems to loosen as the day goes and I'm able to walk more outside the house, but sleeping it pains terribly just to try to turn from side to side. Terribly stiff in the mornings! Advil does help, but I don't want to mask the issue and take it daily. Thank you!

    I have a suspected baker cysts at the behind my right knee (rear-left). I used Foucher’s sign(firm in full knee extension and soft in knee flexion) for my self diagnosis since I don't have a time to go to the doctor...
    No pain so far...
    I'm a 41 year old cycling enthusiast(former amateur) & I rode my bike for 16 years til I stopped last month because of my lump behind my right knee that I accidentaly discovered....
    For the last 7 months, I trained a heavy gearing on uphill parts(3-5% gradient) of my new local bike loop(3-4 times per week) & I have two MTBs(8.7kg & 13kg). My heavy bike is the one that I used more frequently to gain strength but after my instense training sessions, last may or june, my knees hurt for few minutes then the pain disappears, then I continued my heavy gear training till i accidentally noticed a lump behind my right knee...
    I just want to ask If a frequent heavy gearing in training can contribute to baker cyst.
    Thank you..

    When the cyst ruptures and travels down the leg, are the gluteal muscle exercises still important if it has disappeared behind the knee? I had an ultrasound which currently shows the cyst sitting at the head of the gastrocnemius tendon/muscle. Have you ever seen/heard about this happening?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 года назад +1

      Hey Shay! Great question, when the cyst ruptures and travels down the leg and settles at the head of the calf muscle...that means your cyst became really bad!! Yes, we see this happen all the time in our Baker's Cyst patients. You absolutely still need to strengthen the quads because now that muscle imbalance that got you the cyst is working on the next problem. It might get you arthritis, a meniscus tear or it could damage the cartilage in your knee. It's just a matter of which is the next weakest link in your knee. If you haven't seen these yet, here are some great glute exercises to start with.

      Hey PatriciaMarie100! PRP might help to heal the meniscus tears temporarily (and it might not work too). But you still have to ask, "how did the tears get there?" Because if you don't solve that problem, then you might get another meniscus tear soon after having PRP injections.
