The diss Namjoon did wasn't to Zico, they didn't have any beef between each other, they were actually in the same underground rap community back in the days and Zico is still friends with Namjoon and Hobi too!! This "battle"is more of a joint performance in battle form, but they weren't like "I'll do better than you, I'll win" they just performed, Zico said a while ago that they didn't even know beforehand that it'd be "BTS vs Block B", but yeah this was really good!!! Jhope and Jimin killed it, like they were amazing, and I really like the Let's get it started performance at the end with all of them!! But it's crazy how you can see the preference, when BTS were singing it barely focused on them, the camera was on the crowd or in a Block B member but every time someone from Block B sang the camera was on them lol well, the early days... They really were the underdogs
BlockB leader Zico in a recent program remembering the MAMA 2014 said this:
zico: when we performed together with bts (in mama)... we didn't know it was a battle, when we went up the stage suddenly a VS was written
zico: it was over for us when jimin tore off his clothes

Namjoon and the rapper of block b " Zico " were in the same team when they were in the underground !! They have been friends since teenage and have a song together as well. Block b has some good music as well and Zico as a soloist has some really good songs . This performance will forever be iconic !! Jimin and jhope absolutely devoured them

the way zico and rm knew each other during the underground days, you can still find their song cockroachez that was released in 2008, and now zico has his own label under hybe, the way rm has said that seeing zico debut first brought him some reassurance

Namjoon and Zico are old friends. Zico interviewed Jhope on the first episode of his show Give Me a Minute, (check it out!!) about JHope’s album Jack in the Box in 2022. Zico’s production company Koz Entertainment was acquired by Hybe in 2021. Under it he is a soloist and he also manages a new boy group Boy Next Door.

Jimin was never baby j 🤨They considered that name before debut but never call him that. And Gloss is Yoongi's underground name and as BTS member he never used that

Fun fact:
I don't remember if it was when they were trainees or rookies but when doing dance practices, they'd do simulations on how to handle stage accidents like hats falling or shoes coming off, etc.
That's how dedicated and determined they were.
Zico even mentioned recently that they think they lost the battle when Jimin ripped his shirt. According to him, after that, it was kind of over. And Danger is absolutely a banger.

When you said “Don’t act like you’re not impressed” the camera was actually on a member of a group who was super popular back then. That’s what music award shows like MAMA do a lot - if a less popular group is performing and then producers want a bigger reaction from the audience at a certain time, they’d change the camera to someone more popular and their fans would go crazy. I wasn’t an ARMY yet when I did watch MAMA back then (live from home), so I was happy to see my fave groups’ reactions back then. Now, as an ARMY watching these again, I’m like, “You’re missing the one of the best parts, put the camera back!!” 😤😅😂
And you guys mentioned wanting to see BTS react to their old stuff? It's one of my favorite MAMA's, precisely because I'm crazy about the dark & wild album. Jimin's tattoo was actually fake, but in 2018 he made it permanent (it says “Nevermind”).
The battle was more to introduce the groups and BTS did very well, since at that time the awards didn't give them any visibility.
The dance battle is iconic and still remembered today, Hobi and Jimin were much better, I'm not saying that because I'm an army, but it's totally incomparable (not to mention Jimin tearing his shirt, that was the perfect icing on the cake).
Now about the rap “battle”, Zico and Namjoon are friends, the disses weren't for each other. By the way, interesting trivia, RM's rap was a diss to a guy called Bobby from the group iKON (this guy made a gratuitous diss about RM and BTS, RM didn't miss the chance to respond to the point of shutting the guy up and keeping him quiet), and it's all true, in their book there's information about what happened and Namjoon has already spoken about it, even backstage at this MAMA Bobby went to greet and congratulate RM.

I was a baby ARMY back then and stayed up all night to watch this live.....one of my first if not the first K award show I had ever watched and I had also participated in the voting so it was so exciting. Of course the iconic Jimin shirt ripping is part of BTS legend. Thanks as always.
actually rm's pre-debut underground tracks are very fun, people managed to save and reupload a few, at one point while being a trainee he mostly deleted everything, and well old internet spaces have also closed so a lot is lost but we have a few, some even before his voice dropped, it's insane and rm has always been good, no wonder people were scared (bts vault has a lot of the songs with good subtitles, pre-debut songs list on genius is also a good start for anyone who wants to start looking into this)

Zico and BTS have a strong relationship. Zico interviewed J-hope when he was promoting his Jack in the Box album. It's on youtube and well worth a watch. The respect each other a lot. Zico's show is called "Give me a minute" and J-hope was one of his guests.

I just wanted to say it, summer you always say what we think haha yes we are army and we definitely have the same feelings. It was really touching to see them again at that time, you could see the difference between the audience's cheers and the absence of chants at that time. It can be seen on their faces that they really want to make the audience interested in them, they are really cool, to be honest, not because I'm ARMY, but I don't think there was a group that could be like them at that time, having only debuted for a year but as great as them, for BTS it looks embarrassing to me, in fact it was very cool and extraordinary and I was very proud and felt like telling them at that time that you don't need to worry because in the future you will be very successful. They were so cool that even when I watch them back now I still think they're really cool.

There is a part where camera focused on one girl with a mole, she is IU, the one that you guys have been reacted to (Loves Win All). Fun fact, Jungkook has said on one interview that IU is his type. There was even a moment fans really wanted them to be together (despite the fact that IU is older than him) because they look cute! But they just remain friends behind the scene. Not to forget, IU already has a boyfriend now. No hate ok🥰 I mention this because this is somehow funny to ARMY because half of BTS member has been collaborated with IU but JK😂 Just thought you guys should know too hahaha. I believe JK & IU both respect each other. In addition, the guy where camera focused, his name is GD (G DRAGON). He is one of BIGBANG member & they were HUGE back then. Like SUPER HUGE. even as a kid, when a friend of mine back in sixth grade bluetooth me all bts related videos including dance practices and two mv (+boy in luv and we are bulletproof pt2 mv)..their mv always been high quality! I have zero idea what kpop is. If youre in the philippines, Sandara Park is a famous idol we filipinos know BUT, again as a kid, I dont know kpop, just sandara and bts, and exo.
Been following Bangtan from 2014-2016 without having idea that they've been through tough times, struggling, and close to bankrupt!
It was also in 2016 when I finally learned about kpop, learned how massive and competitive in kpop world is.
I'm 21 now. I think being clueless made me focus only to bangtan for years lmao. And yes, I'm flexing hshshs
Lol, the dance battle was over as soon as Hobi made his entrance, and then Jimin doubled down! I've watched that video multiple times, in large part due to Jimin's splendid torso. RM was so masterful, they were all so young and so talented!

This was a lot of fun! What a throwback. I think BTS and Block B didn't know they were advertising it as a battle, they approached it as a collaboration.
I was disappointed in the camerawork for the group parts. There were a lot of very very distant shots during nice choreo moments. Well, maybe that's just me. I love seeing them live, but I'm often annoyed at tight shots and distance shots that keep me from seeing the all members and their dance clearly. Oh well!
Two things: ZICO has his own production company, KOZ Entertainment, that is under the HYBE Label. They showed some other idols in the audience but the single female was IU.

No opening act, just these guys for 2.5hrs. The energy they start with is the same that they end with. And the energy of 70,000 ARMY singing along “I’m the one i should love” in a sea of purple army bombs was really something amazing. They also allow each member to perform a song or two solo, giving the group some rest time while allowing each of them to shine. Just about every song they have is better live imo. Totally worth the 2hrs to get out of the parking lot. And the hunger games to get the tickets💜💜
