I was a mechanic at a Buick dealership in 1983-1988. GM had a 5 volt reference wire. So when a relay or solenoid was activated it would send a 5 volt signal back to the computer so the computer knew the circuit was complete. No 5 volt signal then the computer would set a fault code and turn on the check engine light. So this technology has been around for quite some time but now it’s used in a lot more circuits.
I use AlphaOBD & go into the BCM section and check off LED for the lights that are changed and never got the bulb out message.

The Morimoto LED headlights would look perfect on that truck. I have them and they are great! Light output is significantly better than the OEM even with halogen bulbs
Have you seen the AlphaRex headlights? I am curious how they compare to the Morimotos.
Most reviews claim garbage fitment and unreliable. For the price I would keep stock projectors.

I’ve got a 2014 that had that fault sense wire in it because it said the blinker signal was out on the driver side
Who builds the headlights? Been trying to find some.
Pretty sure it doesn't matter the year I believe its what headlights came in the truck from the factory since the 15 is a tradesman it doesn't have the fault sensor like the 18 Laramie trucks
You are correct. I have a 03 Ram 1500 4x4 that has lamp out detection. When I put in my projector headlights I also installed switch back turn signals and had to put a small resistor on both sides to turn out the dash light and shut the dinger up 😂

Been watching you forever, I love what you do. can you please help me with my 2012 4th gen , i didnt want to get a new computer and lose my tune, so i bypassed the truck with an aftermarket piece that allows me to adjust the alternator output manually. it keeps the batteries charged , and that is great but i still have a low voltage warning light that is keeping the heated seats and the steering wheel, and also the onboard 120 . and finally the fog lights also turn off to save power because it thinks it doesnt have power, but i am putting out 14.7 all the time have you ever run into this?
Greg your next project needs to add some railing to the upper portion of the shop. Surprised you havn't done that yet.

Just Diesels has some very good breakdowns and comparisons on both. Definitely worth a watch if you have time. Based on what he showed, I would go for the Alfas
I had the AlphaRex Nova series lights on my ‘03. They were amazing. I loved them. Unfortunately that truck got totaled. I now have a 2016 and just ordered the same headlights(alphaRex Nova series 2) for it because I’m not happy with the performance of the factory projector headlights.

Wow crazy question why are you removing the grill to pull a headlight housing out? Very inefficient and completely unnecessary.
It makes it easier to reach the bolts on the headlights on a 4th Gen Ram.
