    Such an exciting TBR! Augustus and All the Pretty Horses are incredible in very different ways.
    Augustus is epistolary with several perspectives and time jumps, so the structure is more complex than Stoner. Appropriate to the historical setting, Augustus has a much more formal writing style than Stoner, but it still has Williams's distinct voice.
    All the Pretty Horses is one of McCarthy's more accessible stories. It's a coming-of-age story with romance, travel, friendship, and danger. It highlights differences in culture between Texas and Mexico during the mid-20th century.
    I hope that helps, and I hope you read and love both. If you love both, then I highly recommend checking out Williams's Western novel, Butcher's Crossing. Happy reading!

      Thank you Johanna. If I only get to one this month it will likely be All the Pretty Horses. I hear it calling me from the bookshelf. 😀

    A Time of Changes is my next Silverberg read. Inverted World is great, will be interested to see what you and Robin think of it. Cheers Bart.

      Nice, I think you’ll find A Time of Changes interesting and though provoking. Silverberg knows how to tell a story. What else have you read from him? I think remember you talking about reading Dying Inside.

      @@bartsbookspace I've read Dying Inside and The World Inside, plus many short SF stories. I tried to read some of his fantasy a long time ago but it wasn't hitting at the time. I'd like to check out some of his other stuff at some point, maybe even his softcore porn, lol.

    ‘Inverted World’ is one of my favourite reads of 2023. Wasn’t sure about the ending but it has grown on me. Enjoy!

      The ending seems polarizing; you’re the second person to mention it here. I can’t wait to read it and make up my own mind. Thanks

    Obviously I'm going to vote for All The Pretty Horses. Ill be interested in what you think about Oathbringer. Personally it is my least favorite of the Stromlight Archive (still really good). However, I have friends who have it as their favorite. It was the first Stromight book that I felt could have been trimmed down but the ending is something else.

      I’m definitely reading All the pretty Horses! Thanks
      Since I’m concentrating on SF for my channel I’ve been putting off Oathbringer month after month. It’s time to at least start it.

    Woooooo you’re in for such a treat with Golden Son!!! You probably remember me gushing about it in my favorites of all time list-and Oathbringer wasn’t too far behind in my enjoyment from bk 2 either, and had a truly inspiring storyline it explores with Dalinar’s life’s journey. Happy reading!!!

      Not only do I remember, but watching the video reminded me that I want to get back to that series. Thanks!
      Dalinar is a great character, can’t wait to read Oathbringer as well. Hopefully there be time for all the books. 😃

    I also stopped with Gunslinger and didn't feel compelled to read further. However, I do hope to revisit the series one day for the same reasons as you. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on Oathbringer. It's my personal favorite in the series, because of the story arc of my favorite character in the series: Dalinar. Golden Son is quite an improvement over Red Rising, so hopefully you'll have a great time with it.

    Inverted World is great! Dark Tower is epic and awesome! Unlike you i fell in lpve with it from book 1 when i first read it when i was a youngster. I'm about due a re-read, and i have half a mind to do a video on why Dark Tower is sci fi! Glad to hear you're enjoying A Time of Changes. Good luck with your reading in April!

    All the Pretty Horses was more enjoyable for me than Augustas. I also read Red Rising and stopped there. I will be interested in your take on the next one.

    • @bartsbookspace
      @bartsbookspace  6 месяцев назад +1

      Since I’ll probably have time to only read one of the two this month, it’ll be All the pretty Horses.
      If it wasn’t for all the hype surrounding Red Rising and for the fact that most readers feel that book 2 is a significant improvement, I probably would not continue with the series. I’ll go into the read with high hopes.

  • @TheRedPolyhedral

    I really enjoyed The Gunslinger novels and read the series one after the other. I didn't enjoy Red Rising, but if the next two books are better, I'll be giving them a try.

      I think I was too young and inexperienced when I tried Gunslinger. Now, I better know what to expect and I’m ready to give another shot.
      Same with Red Rising; i’ve heard from enough people that books 2 is such a significant improvement over book 1 that I will definitely give it a go. Thanks for watching!

    I loved Inverted World all the way... until the ending disappointed me. It seems like Priest was caught by surprise that he actually needs to wrap it up. The explanation for the premise of this book was entirely deus ex machina and just doesn't logically fit the events. I did consider that maybe I missed something, but I'm not alone on that, just in the minority. Please share your thoughts when you get there. I'm genuinely curious and would love to love that book.
    As for Dark Tower, I enjoyed the first book and only dropped out at the beginning of book 4. Who knows, maybe I'll decide to continue one day.

    • @bartsbookspace
      @bartsbookspace  6 месяцев назад +1

      I’m very curious to see how I feel about Inverted World. I typically need an at least decent, plausible ending to feel really good about a book; although I can accept an unresolved ending that leaves me thinking.
      Incidentally King has let me down once or twice with his endings.
