    Thank you for the time and effort you have allocated to this topic. Again, Ms Kenway. I am compelled to extend my gratitude towards you. Concerning this rather pressing issue. Having the option, to verify weather the correct action, has been obtained. Will undoubtedly be an asset to numerous women. In search of clarification. And the reassurance, it will undoubtedly bring.

    Your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
    At first I couldn't find or feel my pelvic floor muscles if that makes sense until I saw your other video.
    To find it I did the laying down like you showed in the demo in your other video. it seemed like I have weak muscles. Once I located and isolate the muscle I couldn't hold it for even five seconds. But now I can hold it 5 seconds and do the reps. And I can feel where the muscle is now. But that's when I'm laying down mostly.
    How you demonstrate the "lift" with your hands is a good visual and that helped.
    I use to think that squeezing your buttock muscles is how you tightened things up. 😂 I was unaware of my own anatomy.
    I have had some incontinence and it has scared me. And I have literally not made it to the bathroom at times and started leaking.
    I have an over active bladder that doesn't help the situation but I don't want to go on medicine for it. I did see a urologist about the over active bladder and they suggested medication if I wanted.
    I Find that it helps to
    limit beverage like coffee and tea as that just aggravates my bladder.
    I'm trying to get my pelvic floor strengthened up so I don't get the leaks anymore and I can hold my pee long enough so I make it to the bathroom in time.
    I'm in menopause and mid 50's.
    I still Find it a challenge when standing up to do the pelvic floor exercise and to isolate the muscles. I have to really focus to find the muscle but I am getting better at it. Like you said the exercise has to be done standing up. So I'm going to be working on that more.
    Do you think that the Kegel exercise devices, eggs, etc are a good idea?
    I think I may need something like that but not sure what type to get. What material?
    I have looked on Amazon and not sure what to get. I'm in the USA.
    Thank you for helping so many people and for sharing your knowledge.

      @Artishealing65 thank you for sharing your story, I'm glad to hear you're progressing well. At this stage best to try standing Kegels without an exerciser. The main focus is getting the technique right and then contracting with greater intensity when stronger. Unfortunately there's no evidence supporting Kegel ball exercisers however my feeling is that they can sometimes help get the right technique to know the muscles are working correctly. You will find Kegel balls online - I would choose silicone coated which are better quality. I discuss how to use Kegel balls for exercise in this video which may help you too, all the best www.pelvicexercises.com.au/how-to-use-kegel-balls-for-strength/

      @Joresel Coronado some women suffer increased bladder leakage during menstruation due to hormonal changes that can have an effect on the pelvic floor.

      practice makes perfect 😊 do it as often as possible and you will see results. it should only take a few training sessions to see improvements, 2-3 weeks should be enough to see that you can hold now for 3-5 seconds or do reps.

    Is there a reason why starting kegels would CAUSE urinary incontinence?
    6 fails over the past few years, I thought I was doing it wrong but wasn't. I can't get past 2 sessions without having to stop do to leaking issues.

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  2 года назад +1

      @
      Anne Onymous yes the wrong technique can cause this. Many women inadvertently bear down rather than lifting inwards during Kegels. It may well be this situation or that you might be pulling in your abdominal muscles whilst trying to do the exercises. If you can see a Pelvic Floor Physio, you can have your technique assessed and then you should be ble to progress without leakage. All the best Anne

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  2 года назад +2

      @Ruti Sharoni yes Kegel exercises are for incontinence especially bladder leakage with coughing, sneezing and with urgency. Kegels also help firm the pelvic floor, particularly important after pregnancy/childbirth and with menopause and for prolapse management. Really they need to be lifelong exercises

    Hello Michelle, 'm really hoping you can help me. Do you have any advice for extensor tendonitis on top of the foot? Any help would be much appreciated as I'm struggling with this injury and could really use some advice. Wishing you all the best & thanks so much!

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  2 года назад

      @Zach Ascot this really depends on the cause of the tendonitis. Initial treatment usually aims to settle inflammation with cold therapy, topical anti inflammatory gel eg voltaren and rest. The underlying cause also needs to be addressed whether it’s overuse, acute strain etc and a physical therapist or podiatrist can help you with this, all the best Zach🙏

    • @ZachAscot

      @@michellephysio Thank you for your fast & helpful reply, it's very much appreciated. I'm an active person and this condition came from adding stair running into my exercise routine. I've rested the area for a couple of months now and I'm starting to rehab again. Should I try stretching the area? Best wishes

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  2 года назад

      @@ZachAscot ah it's the stair running, this places alot of strain on the extensor tendons as you probably know. In this case treatment is usually rest to allow the condition to heal, gradual stretching of the extensor tendons and I mean gradual, no pain and also strengthening of the extensors with exercises like exercise band looped over the top of the foot starting with low resistance, These exercises should be professioally prescribed based on the condition. Hope this info helps Zach, no more stairs unless they are very small steps not large ones when you do return to exercise. Stationary bike should be fine in the interim.

    • @ZachAscot
      @ZachAscot 2 года назад

      @@michellephysio Hello Michelle, thank you so so much for your kind help. It is truly appreciated. I've definitely learned the hard way with the stair running! I thought I had built up to it sufficiently, but obviously not!
      I've started to foam roll my calves as I've heard it will help. I will be careful stretching my extensors as I find any stretching in that area to create pain. Will build up to that progressively. I'm doing weighted calf raises in the hope that will help. I'm slowly building the weight, starting light.
      I will be keeping away from the stairs during my workouts! You have been incredibly helpful and I cannot thank you enough! Look forward to enjoying more of your content and you've really helped me on my journey to recovery. I was starting to lose hope! Best wishes, Zach

    Thank you for sharing your priceless knowledge with us. I have a query. While I don't suffer from urinary incontinence, I do feel the urge to pee frequently at times. However, I'm differently abled and hence am unable to stand upright. Is it okay to do the exercise only while sitting on the floor/ lying down?

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  2 года назад +1

      @Diana D'souza yes it's absolutely fine to do these exercises in the position that you feel most comfortable doing them. You will probably benefit more form upright sitting exercises rather than lying down exercises. Try to do the exercises with urgency - when the pelvic floor muscles contract they switch the bladder muscle off making it relax, decreasing urgency. This can take time and practice. Also watch your intake of bladder irritants such as caffeine and carbonated drinks. Finally this video on bladder urgency may assist too ruclips.net/video/7V8jpqKQJqw/видео.html and this one on frequency ruclips.net/video/tKuWVSxQoT0/видео.html, wishing you all the very best! 🙏
