Macaws are such gorgeous, smart creatures. I really wish people would be responsible and research into these animals before getting one because they are NOT for everyone.
@@epicadus8722 But when people get them as pets and they then no longer want them, those macaws need rescuing. They have to go somewhere. Just releasing them isn't an option.
I would LOVE to be an ornithologist when I’m older. It’s such a joy to watch your videos! Thank you Jessy for uploading such entertaining and informative videos on macaws! Birds are my favourite animals :)
With so many animals clicker trained in the house, do you ever have trouble clicking for an animal in one room, and the animals in the room over getting agitated?
I would guess that it's determined by context. If a human is directing commands to some other animal, then that other animal will be the one to receive treats when the clicker sounds.
Hi! Did u know that spix Macaws are from Brazil? There are only 160 in captivity and are extinct in the wild. If you could buy one they would be 200,000 dollars for one! Isn’t that amazing??!!
@@kimunthank9991 and did you know that the blue and gold macaw and the green wing macaw are from Brazil too? and that there is a law here? and that to have one here requires authorization from Ibama, which is the environmental agency here, to have wild birds here like the Macaws, the ring is not my fault. The spix are extinct, it is authorized to have legalized Macaws here, they are not taken from nature, and we cannot have a spix macaw here, as they are almost extinct, which is incredible, isn't it?
Totally didn’t think about this until now because how heavy is a bird like that WOW. Budgie? No problem. Conure? Whatever. A bird larger than a pigeon? Sitting on my scrawny arm for more than a minute? Uhhhhhhh...
@@jessical4866 birds as huge as macaws can weigh almost 1kg (about 2 pounds)... it doesn't seem like a lot, but you'll notice it pretty quickly! but any regular exercise for your arms should do it. the most basic might be just get a 5lb dumbbell and hold it for a while, or move it around.
I absolutely LOVE this longer video format! While i completely understand that it's a painfully difficult thing to do, while running a business with living creatures at home to take care of, children to raise, and an actual, well.. BUSINESS TO RUN... I do love these long peeks inside! Can i ask? Was it ever brought up as to why Scarlett has a pale beak? I'm not sure i've ever seen one so light before?
I love that these videos show how much work and time macaws are. We have 2 macaws, a 35+yo scarlet and her 4yo hybrid son that we hatched out. They have huge cages/play area and an outdoor aviary but they still get into everything. They are our children but like most young kids they are loud, messy, loud, destructive, clingy and did I mention, loud?
Poor Joy's overgrooming makes me so sad to see every time, and then I remember I do a human version of the exact same stress behavior... should probably turn that sympathy inward once in a while!
It’s amazing to see Scarlets progress from the more slouched over posture to sitting more up-right as she got used to perching. Also is Scarlet over weight? She seems... hefty... that Joy. Or are Green-Wings naturally larger than Blue&Golds?
Our family would love to see a video staring your rabbits. We have tried to do research on everything rabbit but feel there are too many contrasting opinions, so we are asking for your help! We love your videos, and these ones are super educational for our kids! Thank you for all your content!
Ah, Joy has been struggling with plucking for as long as I've followed this channel, which is several years. She increases the behavior when there are increases in her stress, such as big living space changes. But like Jessi says, she's working with some notable past trauma, so all they can do is offer her the most safe and fulfilling home possible. Offering enrichment and giving her love does help it improve, as long as she also has stability. It definitely is sad to see, but she was using that maladaptive coping for years, so it probably will take as many years to unlearn? :(
Joy and Scarlet are fully flighted and we've never clipped their wings. Neither of them are confident enough to fly yet, but we're working with them to see if we can encourage them to give it a go!

Hey can you tell me about parrots if a parrot can't speak is not a problem is that going to end up a fatal injury because I didn't have it. My friend had one and he didn't speak at all it died I'm sad
Most pet macaws were bred in captivity, including these guys! While not all captive-bred macaws have them, the leg bands can be a telling factor. Please don't assume they were wild caught :)
I so appreciate Animal Wonders rescuing sick, disabled and mistreated animals. However, many animals should never be bred in captivity. Large parrot breeds are included in that group.
But all Animal Wonders can do to fix that is to continue to use their rescues to promote education about animal needs, and goodness knows they do that to the best of their abilities.
I don't think a bird needs another bird companion to be content (not saying you should put them with any other animal! Big nono!). Sure, they have flocks in the wild, so many people consider them to be social animals (as I did when I was a kid) but those are out of food/survival, protection from predators (which as long as you, the human, have a good relationship with your bird, they aren't going to see you as a threat), rather than being extroverted, as I doubt they bond to most of the birds they're surrounded by in the wild. Usually it's just one or two birds, a mate or sometimes a friend in the wild. But as long as they're not already bonded to a bird or have bonded with a bird previously in captivity they should be fine with just a human friend. (If otherwise, they may want/need a companion bird to spend their time with, however it's a case by case basis) It's a harmful mantra to say, because what happens with a lot of bird owners, they see that they're bird isn't happy (for whatever reason) they might think they need companionship (which they might, but not necessarily with a bird when you can provide them with it YOURSELF!)
Macaws are such gorgeous, smart creatures. I really wish people would be responsible and research into these animals before getting one because they are NOT for everyone.
Ya my sister got a hedgehog and she had to make two presentations to get blaze.
Well said. I would take it further and say macaws are not the right pets for most people.
Macaws are not pets, period. They are wild animals and therefore they must live in the wild.
do you have one or something?
@@epicadus8722 But when people get them as pets and they then no longer want them, those macaws need rescuing. They have to go somewhere. Just releasing them isn't an option.

With so many animals clicker trained in the house, do you ever have trouble clicking for an animal in one room, and the animals in the room over getting agitated?
I would guess that it's determined by context. If a human is directing commands to some other animal, then that other animal will be the one to receive treats when the clicker sounds.
This is an interesting point. You're making me realize how often Jessi takes the animals into a solo space for training!
Ok but can we talk about how long Jessi’s hair is?? 👩🦰
Its so shiny

Yes. But they will only imitate what they find interesting and want to learn, not necessarily what you want.
