The first one was like 11 hours and 27 mins long. I noticed he did a lot of aiming the guns he had for no reason; when it came to crafting and/or upgrading, he would start to do one and stop to do another, then stop that one and go back to the first and actually do it; as well as walk/run around aimlessly on occasion. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just critical I guess. The game walkthrough probably would've been a little shorter without all that.

@@HoustonsRealest Problem lies in that it's mainly a story game and people are not happy about. It's not fair to call names for a LOT of amazing work in everything else in the game, but it still glued together by story, so that's why everything else seems like a waste of effort.
TLOU1 Joel: "That wounded man screaming for help? It's obviously a trap, Ellie. You can't trust anyone nowadays." TLOU2 Joel: "Hi strangers, I know I am a highly wanted man, and I don't know any of you. But I still trust you and I will accompany you to your secret base full of threatening armed men!"

1. Jackson had softened him. He had become a more caring and trusting person, he even saved Abby, 2. He didn’t have time to question. They were being chased by the horde. The horses couldn’t get them back to the town without getting caught and relying on Abby was the only option. They also knew the building was secure. 3. The group spent precious resources saving them and didn’t throw them out. There was no reason to believe they were hostile. 4. He gave them his name because that’s a normal thing to do. He didn’t suspect anyone was after him. Tommy introduced himself and then he introduced himself.
Matthew 1. This is 25 years into the apocalypse. Regardless if there’s a horde or anything, you don’t go into a base where there’s a bunch of strangers because PEOPLE ARE THE THREAT. I only needed one point there.
@@MR.ICE. For a sequel that's trying its damned hardest to be like the walking dead. The one thing walking dead established is that Humans are more dangerous that the infected lol. Last of us 2 be lacking in logic
Thats exactly what i just thought i cant believe they make all those scenes showing Joel just kill him like that ?, i mean, i just saw the first 3 hours of the game i hope they make a plot twist, we did not see his corpse or anything, just a grave. At any rate, i really hope he appears up foward in the game
I mean companies do this alot like Hulk being in the Infinity War trailer but in the final release he wasn't, but I really hate that they did that here with Joel, I dunno I knew he was going to die but I also expected that we go play as him for a little longer, like help Ellie in Seattle or something.
I always come back to this channel when i want to see a walkthrough of new games, im always annoyed when people talk over gameplay, it ruins the immersion, thanks for being here and making this content
What I hate is that Joel and Tommy just gave out their name to them? Knowing the two of them from the last game they would never do something so obnoxiously stupid like that.
People were more dangerous and unpredictable in the last game. Joel never would have helped out some lone woman, especially with his past. And introducing themselves like that? No, ma'am.
It kinda works its been years of them letting people join them. They made a city how do you think they made that city of people? By letting them in so they got more trustworthy which got Joel killed. So yeah they would have just told them who they were.
I feel like Joel’s death wasn’t earned. Felt too rushed. Edit: I’ve left another comment on my alternate version of the Last of Us 2 story. Let me know your thoughts and your ideas. 😁 Edit 2#: When I mean rushed, I mean I feel like his death is out of place. Like this felt like a scene from near the end of a game rather than the very beginning. If there was more build up to this, I wouldn’t have minded too much.
Sparkz Mentalz Yes they would to people they trust. It’s not like the first game. They aren’t in the wastelands. They’re outside a civilized community and the people protected and welcomed them, it’d be common courtesy to introduce themselves. Joel also had no idea people were after him
@@theworld6710 Joel and Tommy were way more cautious in the first game. They didn't find out why Abby was there in the first place. I know you're trying to justify it but it all boils down to crappy writing.
@@sparkzmentalz2 It could be sloppy writing, but it also could be that the situation they were in + living for years in a welcoming community made them less cautious and aware of the danger that people pose.
you'd be surprised how often this happens in real life. People you help will be the first to abandon you , or throw you under the bus heck if they could get away with it they would end you all this after you have helped them.
it wont happen if Tommy or Joel himself didnt say "hi im joel" or "this is joel". Joel once was a guy who had trust issue and now agree to follow strangers to their camp and give them his real name. i called bullshit from naughty dog on this one.
Dude you are dumb. All the people there were acting friendly and he had no reason to believe they were hostile. He also wanted to introduce himself to the people there after Tommy. Abby didn’t make her move before, because even if she did realize it, Tommy could’ve easily killed or wounded her and they’d be killed by the horde. The group also spent valuable ammunition defending them. You don’t have to like the death, that doesn’t make it any less legitimate
Matthew Ellie: How did you know? Joel: Know what? Ellie: About the ambush. Joel: I've been on both sides. Joel isn’t stupid enough to just trust anyone and if you truly believe he is, I suggest you go back and play the first game so you can properly understand.
@RICCENE ENTERTAINMENT It's called character development. Characters change through time becoming more accepting and trustworthy doesn't mean it's bad writing. Years has passed living in city meeting new people and growing a community. So how is that bad writing, that makes no sense whatsoever.
The Last of Us is the only gane that has brought tears to my eyea and made me connect so much with the characters and story. Joel and ellie are icons in gaming
I don't think I've ever cried during a video game and I rarely cry during movies, it's just when I'm sad I just get angry. But I completely agree that Ellie and Joel are complete legends in the gaming world. And so are Lee and Clem from telltales the walking walking dead, I just think that Joel and Ellie are a bit better, they just got more of an emotional impact on me.
if you're going to kill off Joel at least give it time so you can build up the other characters and let them grow on us, before you kill off one of the most beloved characters in any game. We go from Joel+Ellie to Ellie+Dina, and to be frank one could give 2 fucks about Dina this point the story. I'm sorry but they killed my man's waay to early in the game, not even to mention the bullshit way it happened smh
Which death in this universe isn't cheap, bro? The whole point is that humans are cruel. Joel's daughter death in the beginning of the first game was "cheap" too, but people found moving instead of cheap because they weren't really attached to her. I get you like fan service, but I respect the fact that they chose to work with themes instead.
@@franciscofarias6385 What themes? Have you even played the first game? In the first game it does setup that when shit hits the fan humans become monsters. Here it just servers to set up this lame she-hulk villain.
Francisco Farias yeah, prioritizing “themes” over quality is a huge problem for me. The voice acting performance of Troy Baker sold his daughters death scene, not because we cared about her, but because every line was delivered so well. Comparing killing Joel, an established character, and killing his daughter in the first ten minutes of the first game isn’t the same circumstance at all.
I asked my friend what he thought of the game. He said it was good but they "hit joel's character development away with a golf club." Only now do I get it.
I dont get the objection. Reality is grim, heroes die on the toilet all the time. The world portrayed is even grimmer. How should he have died? A heroic sacrifice? Nah, thats cheesy. To be honest most of the main critiques i have heard on this game seem pretty unfounded. I haven't watched the entire thing yet though so i'll hold my tongue for now.
@@toddharig8142 Him dying isn't the issue. However the implementation was the problem. Of course he didn't have to die a heroic death however this is a story meant to captivate players emotions. I get that ND wanted to make his death be the driving factor behind the main plot, but it felt like it was forced to set the plot. Joel was a cautious man who was aware of thr cruelties of the world, yet he trusted a bunch of stranger that led to his death. That didn't reflect the Joel in the previous game's narrative. Secondly they force you to play and relate to the character that killed someone beloved with very little development. Joel killed her dad, she wants revenge thats it. They tried to force the player to relate to a character that killed a beloved and ultimately failed.
Love how a character developed over an 18 hour story in the first game gets killed in the first 2 hours of the second just as a way to move the plot forward.
What was he supposed to do? He’d been shot in the leg, cornered, and had no way out. With the fireflies he was guarded by one armed person as they had no interest in killing him. He didn’t even wipe them out. He ran away with Ellie and killed some of them, never wiped them out.
Ellie (TLoU 1) : "If we get out of this you're so singing for me." Naughty Dog (Literally 12 minutes into TLoU 2) : *"Well now that that's taken care of!"*
Exactly bro The way they killed him is so blatantly disrespectful to the character of Joel who we have grown to love care for and just overall like do the moral decisions he had to make.and for them to just get some random bitch that no one cares about or likes and just battered his head in with a golf club is just absolutely atrocious bro.
Well he had to face the consequences of his actions. That makes his death more real in a situation like this. Which makes you think about all the people that we kill off in the game
@@ShahirHameed come on man yall need to stop with this realistic deaths they shouldve made the first realistic then instead of joel killing an army of men.

I love when Ellie and Dina are admiring the veiw and even among all this chaos and death, they still find time to just be human and deal with awkward flirting situations.
To anyone who says Joel's death was more realistic this way. Go back and play the first game and show me why a fictional character who went and plowed through a army by himself deserved such a SCRIPTED "realistic" death.
This was because they didn't want Joel representing their narrative anymore. I'm not racist I'm not a homophobe. I'm just a guy who is pissed they did this to a staple PS Icon.
He "went and plowed trough an army by himself" because they needed him to . Just like they needed him to die for Ellie to have a goal. I don't see your point
@@MrGister9999 that's okay you don't need too. Obviously you do more than you think. The first game they built him up as a one man army. The next he dies playing street gulf. If you can't see how that is a terrible narrative then I'm sorry.
I'm still amazed that I can just watch someone play the game just as bad as I would be playing it. Hoarding, looting and reading everything. Double back to upgrade my weapons... Shoot and miss head shots, then figure out making noises then throwing things and stabbing is just as effective.
No because I never got into a deep connection with a fictional video game character you people ruin the game for yourselves thinking your favorite character got plot armor
1:59:31 look at that plot armor for abby, ellie could've just shot abby from the door and ended this miserable story but she just had to head in and get interrupted
The beginning is the only good part because it's about Joel. It feels like The Last of Us. Changing everything to just Ellie and some trash character nobody likes is not what made the first game work.
Dr. Grey Honestly,I love Ellie. Just as much as I love Joel. Her character was really quirky and funny, she was a very energetic and spontaneous teen. Trying to find the optimism in things, but also being a badass who can take care of herself and Joel if the situation calls for it. Her character was very believable, but she was also done dirty in Part 2. I feel like Neil Druckmann got off on torturing both Joel and Ellie in this game.
If you think it though... he singed to Ellie, which in the first game he said he would never do that, I love how at least Ellie got what she wanted since the first game :c
That music cue after Maria leaves at 2:16:36 is gorgeous. The light shining through Ellie's eye as she and Dina share a silent moment. It's the calm before the storm, the last few seconds we'll ever spent in Jackson. The music is hopeful yet haunting. Then it cuts to black, the low strings rise ominously, and we see SEATTLE... DAY 1. Gah. It's such a great transition from prologue to the main structure of the narrative.
Having had to sell my PS4 Pro due losing my previous job a while ago, I can't even tell you how much I appreciate you playing this and playing it thoroughly. Thank you.
When there's a literal military unit called fireflys searching for you specifically after you stole a cure and killed dozens of their men and identify you BY NAME, you should not give out your name to any random stranger you come across!!!
@-- he 's not naive, people change and a lot. He was most likely nervous in the first and paranoid as he was actively killing constantly and was surrounded. Out here it's isolated and they most likely only deal with infected and people get lazy and cozy which he obviously has but he would acknowledge a threat but didn't he got to trusty.
It may sound silly, but I really love seeing you take the time to look around and interact pretty dang naturally with the world. Some streams/playthroughs of games go so fast and so mechanically it ruins my immersion, and I miss out on little details. Nice pacing, brah
Man, this game disrespects Joel so much. Mainly because of how he’s barely in it. I was hoping he’d be in more of the game at least. Everything else in this game is great, except for Joel.
The npc who spits on Joel's tortured corpse and insults him resembles Druckmann too much to seem a coincidence, same face and hairstyle. Unconfirmed voices tell that he also did the mocap for spitting on Joel/Troy Baker.
So? A character dying like this is unique. They didn't own Joel eternal happiness, specially since he was a bad guy. You people are so entitled it's disgusting.

Mr. Snake honestly I'm kind of over these kinds of linear super story driven games where everyone is miserable in an attempt to make it "deep". I'll watch a walk through and save myself £50 and pick up ghost of Tsushima instead cause at least that's taking an overdone genre and doing something a bit different with the whole historically accurate samurai thing
@@johnwack2897 what are you talking about? I wouldn't have wrote this comment in the first place if I don't know, if you want a full explanation then here you go. He helped Abby escape a horde of zombies and succeeded, after that he went inside her camp because of the blizzard or zombies, and so Joel didn't know that Abby was actually after him cause her dad was killed by Joel in the hospital cause they we're going to kill Ellie to make a vaccine, and so after he went into their basement he was shot in the leg and was massacred by Abby, smacking him in the head with a golf club until he died, what's worse is Ellie and Tommy was there to see him get killed (not really Tommy I guess since he was knocked out). That's pretty much elucidate everything that happened to Joel.
Because that wouldn't have brought back Joel. It's simple to understand, c'mon. For all the game, Ellie is losing her humanity piece by piece and she, in the end, realize that this revenge is breaking her. Because hate brings hate and she had a family too. She has to live her life and go on, not to always suffer for hate.

Imagine if the daughter of a random stormtrooper who died in A New Hope went and killed Luke Skywalker in the first 20 minutes of The Empire Strikes Back
@@KP-zh5dw "main character" and "hero" are not synonyms. Joel wasn't a hero; he was a complicated character but he doomed humanity to keep alive one person. That's not how one normally defines "heroic".
jeebus2121 Wouldnt say he doomed humanity, as it was stated that the surgery would had been in vain if it had gone ahead, and they probably wouldnt have found a cure. The surgeon had a few more immune patients, but couldnt synthesise a cure then. What makes you think that ellie would have been any different? Of course in hindsight, it does seem that joel did make a bad choice, but overall it wasnt the wrong one
It's Naughty Dog. The gameplay is fantastic. Voice acting is spot on. Animation, movement, graphics all beautiful. I'm not here to be toxic. But my God, this writing is terrible. By their standards, It's too random. The world building is nice, Jackson lives and breaths. And I get it. The theme of revenge. That we don't choose our narratives and that violence and death isn't glamorous. But the death and exclusion of Joel in this game after the first? The lack of ANY character development for his murderer before his death? It feels like a cop out. Not a payoff. Shock value. Not a narrative. I expected Joel to die. This is the post apocalypse and the stakes are brutal. But I *do not* care about these *new* characters. I wasn't given time to. I mean at least to let them develope. The game is a sequel to a post apocalyptic western based loosely based on the bond between a father and daughter, and the selfish moral decisions we make for those we love. The level design, mechanics, crafting, it's all here. But this is nowhere near as gripping as the first. I was hooked by SARAH'S DEATH to the first. Fans of this series deserved better. And don't attack me with toxic fanboy "no one deserves anything bullshit." The game is still great, I'm sure. To play. It's just this kind of... Takes my motivation to play it away. Still great, as a "game." But... it could've been the *greatest* as an *experience.* The execution and pacing of this story, is rushed, contrived, and very disappointing, in my opinion. Those of you who disagree with me, I am happy for you that you feel like this is the sequel you wanted and I hope you enjoy this game to the fullest. And that isn't condescension. More power to you. I however feel let down as a fan. Edit: And to anyone who says this is about me being intolerant don't even go there. It's bad story telling because it's bad, in my opinion.. Sexuality and politics don't add or take away anything from how bad it is, again, in my opinion. I mean my God. The fact they even found Joel per chance after how many people patrol that towns outskirts. It's a CITY. The fact her new girlfriend continues to chase after Joel's ghost with her, when she barely knew the guy, after they had JUST became a couple, risking her life against a militia on a romantically fueled guilt whim. The sudden JARRING perspective shifts to Abby, whom we don't know yet. This is not organic storytelling. I'm absolutely shocked this cleared the writer's room. It's not the content. It is the execution of the content. All of these scenarios could've remained the same if they were executed properly. They were not. Pacing, motive, payoffs, themes, these all matter in The Last of Us.
@@FL_MENTALITY She admits to Joel in the Last of Us that she likes girls in a sort of rhetorical way. Its only mentioned once as far as I can remember but it was there. This was Canon before 2. And that's fine. I actually loved her character before.
Thank you :) This game sucked for a lot of reasons but more because Neil Druckmann made the game based on what he wanted the game to be based on not what the fans wanted and were wanting after the first game. Joel's death right at the beginning of the game was just so badly done by Naughty Dog.
I think instead, some of the employees put this in the game to make fun of him lmao. Read it from the perspective of one of the Naughty Dog employees. They're satirizing him.
In my opinion, they should have showed Joel's house before he died. There should have been some sort of gathering or something that would have let us explore the house. Then, when he died, Ellie would go in to retrieve the watch and explore the house, hollow and empty after Joel's death. Then, exploring an empty house would have had more meaning. They could have shown Joel working on his guitar and other stuff. Would have made for a much better contrast to the loss.
He shouldn't have died, period. It's not ok to kill white male main heroes to push feminist propaganda and agendas. Stop giving money to these people(companies). Should have killed Ellie, would have made a much better revenge story. Joel's lost two daughters now... watch him go nuts! Sadly the game has been made in 2020, year of the Misandrist.
Let me get this straight, Joel & Tommy save Abby's life and then she brutally kills him as if it was a scene from Saw or something? And then the narrative goes into you having Abby as your main character?
its to give you an alternative perspective of the story the walking dead did the same with Negan in the comics where he seems super evil but his methods were successful and required at the time. Rick is not a good guy but neither is Negan both did terrible things and would have been killed by anyone on either side of the war had they found them like this.
The most haunting thing about Joel saving Abby’s life only to be killed by her is that he did the same thing at the end of the first game. Marlene saved Joel’s life and gave him so many chances to walk away even after he killed most of the fireflies. And then he shot her without mercy. Glaring differences aside, i like that the sheer ruthlessness in both Abby and Joel has devastating consequences in the end.

Literally 😅
Which death in this universe isn't cheap, bro? The whole point is that humans are cruel. Francisco Farias yeah, prioritizing “themes” over quality is a huge problem for me.
The voice acting performance of Troy Baker sold his daughters death scene, not because we cared about her, but because every line was delivered so well.

If think everyone knew Joel was gonna die in this sequel and, to be fair, I am ok with that. The point is...I'm not sure this was the best way to let a beloved characters go...
Should given him a memorable death...this death they gave him is a giant middle finger to fans of the first game
Wait till the ending. His death was pointless..the whole game is pointless. Nah nvm the whole game was setup to kill him and achieve nothing else. Oh also Eli’s finger 🥱
SlikJohn question do u know y Ellie left two fingers are missing at the end
Kind Karma type in RUclips the ending, a lot of videos out now
I thought they were gonna give him a tess like death where he fights so eille can run and then dies a hero
I am 30min in watching this and I am already so much in awe and loving how they created that town and how it is even more detailed as the first LoU. Man it is good to finally see this. :)

Anita Sarkeesian and therefore Neil Druckmann
Why are these two teenagers born in a post-apocalyptic world acting like contemporary Californians...?
Because their creative team is from Reddit.
How would you expect them to act?
Because the games has a gun to there head
Because they are the love child of anita pointing a gun at neil while he makes this game.

Imagine if the daughter of a random stormtrooper who died in A New Hope went and killed Luke Skywalker in the first 20 minutes of The Empire Strikes Back
As much I find this analogy perfect, I have to point out that Joel was no Luke Skywalker. Joel was not really a hero.
Tanay Parab yes he was what are you on. He was the main character people liked the game because of Joel.
@@KP-zh5dw "main character" and "hero" are not synonyms. Joel wasn't a hero; he was a complicated character but he doomed humanity to keep alive one person. That's not how one normally defines "heroic".
jeebus2121 they could’ve definitely failed making a cure but let me shut up 😂
jeebus2121 Wouldnt say he doomed humanity, as it was stated that the surgery would had been in vain if it had gone ahead, and they probably wouldnt have found a cure.
Also since when did Ellie become a lesbian?
Ronan Throndson there was a dlc in the first game and she has a kiss with another girl

Did he have a choice in that situation? They needed a safe place, they had to play along and go with those people.
I'm pissed that joel died in the first two hours... They could have killed him half way into the game, or never... Would have been a lot better 😭
He shouldn't have died, period. It's not ok to kill white male main heroes to push feminist propaganda and agendas. Stop giving money to these people(companies).
Also 5 main feminine main characters in this game, it's a scissor fest. 2 hours in, and we don't get to play as Joel, and he's killed... I remember when they did that in Star Wars with the Farce Awakens, and we never had a scene with the old group back together, at least 30 minutes all in the same screen, we didn't get to see Luke, and Han dies, stop with the anti-white male heroes propaganda, stop giving these people money, and boycott their products and events.
Should have killed Ellie, would have made a much better revenge story. Joel's lost two daughters now... watch him go nuts! Sadly the game has been made in 2020, year of the Misandrist.
Joel cannot die like this I think he is still alive
@@madquest8 Nah don't make the man suffer like that. He suffered enough already.
Yeah killing him off so soon is what I think has everyone so upset. We barely get to spend anytime with him.

The fact that its Mam,man part 2 and having that woke sex scene. Put together in the same conversation as RDR2 is disgusting.

Personally I don't give a fuck about that she hulk but to change Joel's personality to suit this scenario in which he acts out if character and dies because of it...is fucked up.. Don't you think so?
The writers didn't envision a realistic outcome of how each character behaves. They just wanted to create their story, not a story that fits the narrative of the first game.
And also why did they put Joel's death right at the beginning hours of the game? lol like at least let us savor our favorite character for just a bit ...and because this happened at the beginning ,it didn't strongly affect me because there was no build up to it.
