@@alexhando8541 another baffling decision, but all about cost saving. My view is that Simon really does want it to be for families, only that the economies of scale means that they know its far easier to pinch cash from those older folks with a vested interest in the hobby.
Always interesting Sam... What we really do not understand is that..., in the hobby it is bloody well good known that decoders should never be exposed to controllers without peak voltage cutoff regulation (old ones, from simple analogue starter sets or new cheapos, etc) 🤷 What simply happens is that when a power device is being turned on you'd expect the voltage to go to normal operating level. However it doesn't work as such. There will always be an over-voltage peak for a jiffy the moment you start the controller up. You could simply take the loco off the track first, however a manufacturer should not even allow it to happen by design(!) Always stay away from cheap controllers in combination with DCC. This ordeal simply exposes H's pure incompetence to even allow it to happen(!) Unbelievable(!) Well, that's off our chest, lol. Cheerio.

I was surprised to hear that the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST and SECR 'P' class are coming back. I've already got two of the former, but I'm hoping to get that maroon one with wasp stripes. As for Heljan's model of 10800 'Hawk', I initially thought that it was a Class 16 from a distance. Incidentally I've got a pair of 16s, and I suggest you try the model too if you can find one. But I won't be getting Hawk myself because the price for even the DCC ready version is far too high for my liking.
Not sure of his actual age but given he started working fulltime in a model railway shop in 1971 Simon Kohler has been in the industry for 52 years (recently working very long hours) so retirement now would seem appropriate, and he has actually just said that he is going to be a consultant again, also that TT120 is now a proven success which retailers will now have confidence to purchase/stock . You say everything now comes from China but I see that Roco use factories in Eastern Europe and Vietnam which are now actually Lower Cost Countries - by the way they make some fantastic steam locos - worth reviewing one? It would be interesting to see what is state of the art for Continental, and Japanese, modellers as compared to UK product.
Honestly if I had the money I’d try out those super expensive coaches. I’ve never seen articulated coaches like that before so I think it’d be really interesting to see how they run
Ellis Clark’s Quad-Arts do seem very exciting! They’re products (and the highly anticipated O Gauge Black 5) are of extremely high quality. Can’t wait to purchase one! It’s a shame though that they’re so expensive that it turns some people away :(
Great video Sam! I feel like I was in the future or something, because literally last month I commented how I thought the Accurascale buckjumper seemed kinda expensive for its size, and one loco I compared it to in terms of price was the P Class, and now the P Classes are even cheaper, lol. I think you should try one of the new Sonic Ferryvans, as you never know, it could be better than Rapido’s, and even if it’s not, it would be nice to have a larger train of BR Diesel era box vans. Also, I kinda feel bad for Sonic, as since their a new company it kinda sucks that their accidentally making something that nobody wants, and on the plus side since I saw Hornby brought theirs back, I’m sure Sonic’s will be a hell of a lot better than their old dinosaur. Was also absolutely horrified by the new price Bachmann put on their Class 20s. I really wanted one, as their one of my favourite diesels, and after seeing them in your video I was really happy to see that they were excellent models at a reasonable price, but now at retailers their nearly £200! Also super excited for the new LNER coaches, those look so cool, but again, the darn price! This hobby is getting so unaffordable…
Just a thought, I'd be a nice little detail if you had your O gauge layout shuttling back and forward in the background while you make these news updates!
I'm actually tempted by the Andrew Barclay, I've been wanting some sort of pug to do shunting stuff. I'm going to have to check out your review again, and I might actually be able to justify it at less than $100. At the very least this should bring the used price down!
Should I get a Hattons' P-class as my first ever model train? I've done a lot of research, watched almost all of Sam's reviews, and seen nearly all the other options out there. I'm looking for a reasonably-priced small tank engine with decent detail and good performance, and the P-class has been my favorite so far.
Great video here Sam, I’m definitely looking into the 10800 locomotive from heljan as that will go really well with the rest of my prototype locomotives.
I’m confused, the Caledonian train pack hasn’t been cancelled! I still have mine on the way. And it’s still on the Hornsby website! I think the problem is that they have had too many ordered, I ordered it almost as soon as I came out and mine hasn’t been cancelled
The situation with Sonic and Rapido is unfortunate. I spotted on the forums that Rails held off on the vans until the Rapido ones had sold through. I guess things worked both ways as Rapido let rails sell through their Iron Mink before announcing their own
Hi Sam, great video, its a shame Hatton's aren't bringing out a yellow livery war well wagon like they did the first time round, they are popular in the model world, i have seen so many of the older version ones for sale all the time, the yellow one is as rare as a politician telling the truth.
I recall Simon coming to us on his first day of work when he started with Hammant and Morgan , he did take the trouble to learn about railways which many reps never bothered to do , many of them could have been selling us bags of sugar . He did say that getting product decision development at Hornby by committee was a nightmare .
The story I've heard is that Hornby are planning a u-turn and that all retailers will be "forced" to start stocking the TT range (even if they don't want it). In contrast the Bluetooth decoders are proving very popular and are flying off the shelves!
I won't be surprised - it wasn't smart for them to keep TT to themselves before it was established - we'll have to wait and see! The Bluetooth decoders are awesome - it's just a pity their capabilities and limitations weren't made clear before launch! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Greed, I suppose is the answer. Why do companies who have done so well with products, pricing and support, toss out all that customer good will for a few added ponds? Customers can't be purchased, they are earned. Hornby, a few more greedy moves like this and you'll never have to concern yourselves with profits again - you'll all be OUT - and you'll have taken the company with. SHAME Hornby leadership. Shame. Thanks, Sam - I clicked "Like" THREE TIMES.
Hi Sam after saying about DCC and dc not compatible dose this mean have to have two separate layouts or can you point me to a place I can read up on hope you help thank you
Completely agree about Hornby and their decoders. Very irritating. I saw a file in the background on their website that discouraged DC controllers after stating to use them on full and also the box issue you mentioned. The Android app (also mentioned on the app) is still not available. My Caledonian set was cancelled too, so I quickly bought one of the previous Hornby DCC ready sets. My loco works really well and I have managed to source several Caledonian coaches in very good condition. I bought the McIntosh 812 in blue to go with them - I didn't buy it first time around as you did. I bought the LMS and BR (BR to turn into Belgian type 30 for the railway gun) versions instead.
I for one ain’t disappointed it’s another Great Western loco from Dapol lol 😆😉. Being a staunch GWR modeller and have been for years, we’re finally getting a newly tooled, from the ground up, a GWR 28/3800 class. The last version of this model would’ve been from Hornby of which I have 2807 from the Hornby range. I’ve always loved the 28xx’s as it was one of the first 2-8-0s in Britain and Churchward’s masterpiece for freight working, pretty much the equivalent of the Star and Saints for passenger work. Really looking forward to this I am, Sam. I do already have two Dapol GWR locos, the magnificent 43xx Mogul 6336 and of course the Manor, number 7814 Fringford Manor of which I just love. Is there any news on when the second run of the Manors are to come out? Because I’ll be lining up to get 7802 Bradley Manor as that too run on the Devizes Branch. I have to say I’m surprised that Simon is leaving Hornby but perhaps it’s his time to go? He has been with the company since the 1970s I think 🤔. Long time but it was great to meet him in person at our British Railway Modellers of Australia Convention in my hometown of Adelaide last year. Farewell Simon, hope you enjoy your retirement! As always, Sam, thanks for sharing with us. Regards, Caleb
Weird news about HM7000. I only bought some because I could use them with existing DC controllers! They work absolutely fine and I'm not going to stop. The ability to run a mixed fleet DC/DCC was the USP for the product for me.
I wish Simon all the best on his retirement. There is no doubting his love for the hobby and his clear enthusiasm about Hornby and it’s products. Having seen Lyndon Davies the CEO on the recent TV series I found him to be an obnoxious bully, especially the way he spoke to Montana over the lack of sales at one of the shows they attended. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the main driver behind some of the more rash decisions Hornby has made over recent years which gained them a bit of a bully boy reputation. I would certainly be glad to finish working for such a g*t!
Yes absolutely! I wouldn't take too much notice of how Hornby was represented on the TV show - it was all just staged for entertainment (at least all of my segments were!). Could be right though - some of Hornby's decisions over the past couple of years have been bemusing to say the least! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sam - The HM7000 issue is because sales and marketing set an unrealistic deadline for Engineering and Testing. Production and sales just went ahead anyway ... BEEN THERE. Richar, Retired (thank goodness), Engineer, Colorado.
Hi Sam, great update as always. Will you be tempted to buy one or more P class at such an amazing bargain price?? I feel a Warwell coming on. Secretly hoping their 14xx will be making an appearance. Cheers
Yes I will be tempted... and excellent news on the Warwell, those were great! The 14xx would be cool to see, not sure what those were like at all! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I think you should review the cheaper version of the Hattons models. You might just get what you pay for. It does sound amazing that they can turn the prices down, but it also sounds kind of unrealistic given every one else turns theirs up. Maybe worth checking out to see if Hattons is saving some money on the quality.
really wanted to get the HM controller versions but after seeing this. Massively conflicted, cause having everything BT is very appealing to me. Cause when my nephews pop over to play they can just use their phones. Just dont know....
It is a good system! Just don't power it on a DC controller, and don't expect the Next18 decoders to fit in any of your OO locos, otherwise it's well worth it :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
To be absolutely fair about Simon, he has done many great things for Hornby and has worked hard but he really needs a rest. I can tell this because he has lost his marbles in the last couple of years with that incredibly steep price rise.
Yeah absolutely - the guy knows his stuff for sure! There's certainly been some odd choices coming out of Hornby over the last few years - some of them make zero sense - though it's unlikely to be all down to Simon, there are tonnes of people that work for Hornby! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Didn't Simon Kohler try to retire a few years ago? (could be up to 10 years ago now) I seem to remember that he was only going to do a bit of consultancy in his retirement then but was soon back on board full time.
I understand he was let go by the Hornby management at the time - maybe the same has happened again? They do have a new CEO after all! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I’ve really enjoyed you videos Sam! I have recently purchased a Bachman br black b1 and am trying to find some good wagons and freight cars to pull behind it, I currently have some Oxford rail pilchard wagons and a boogied break van from Bachman, any other ideas?
Thanks so much! Ahh sounds good - feel free to check out some of my other rolling stock reviews, there maybe other things for you! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I've just cancelled my pre-order for the Heljan 10800, £215 plus change is just far too expensive for an OO loco that I was already borderline about in the first place. Similarly I like the look of the Quadart coach set, but I'm going to have to think long and hard about whether they're worth the £325 price tag.
Hey Sam i have just started to get interested in model trains and i was wondering what to get, so if you could help me out i would appreciate it, thank you and have a nice day.(budget £213 tracks included)
Dang, the loss of DC compatibility for the HM7000 is a real blow. I was seriously considering the TT Scotsman with sound. But now it would cost a little more. And I live in the US so I cannot just buy the 15v power supply Hornby is making.
It's great to see the Hattons models coming down in price, but to answer your question about how they can sell them so cheap you just have to consider one thing. They are the manufacture and the retailer, hence they can sell them to you for what would be the trade price - which is still very good. So for instance with the 'P' Class that probably costs them £42.50 to make, and if they were solely a manufacturer they would sell it to trade at £85 and the RRP would be £127.50 - still a very good price, but as they are cutting one step out - i.e. the last one, they can put them out the door for £85. Now, I think I might go and order one in BR black, just a shame the snowploughs are not in more interesting liveries otherwise they would have been an instant order!
Thanks for sharing! Yes that's a very good point - though this was also the case when the first batch was released... they've still achieved a net reduction in price where other manufacturers haven't! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Already pre-ordered one!! I hardly ever buy new locos at the full price, especially not now, just can’t justify it. But these seem like a bargain for the quality! Missed out first time round so I’m very pleased Hatton’s are doing this! Might treat myself to a few other things too! All really great value!
£254.95 for a small Bo-Bo diesel is just shocking... that's the same as three Hattons P Classes! Also, the weathered versions have an eye-watering RRP of £274.95. That's only £5 less than I paid for my new Bachmann Class 37 last week, and that's a significantly larger loco... with sound!
Thank you Sam for always keeping us updated on this. It really helps me.

Some time very soon peco are due to release several versions of the Ffestiniog Bowsider coach's. Keep up the good work Sam. God bless
Love watching these on the bus ride home
Awesome! Have a great day :D
It’s a shame though that they’re so expensive that it turns some people away :(
The APT and Eurostar have articulated bogies.
@@bjmorley Probably he meant on traditional coaches. The APT and Eurostar are more modern high speed multiple units. The Quad Arts are from the 1920s.
@@amazi6542 the only old articulated coaches I know of are the ones that the Daylight from the Southern Pacific used to run
@@adriannash2705 We're primarily talking about British trains, but that's cool!
Love the Caledonia Works livery.
Nice homage to the actual Caledonia Works that built the Barclays!
How do Hatton keep on doing it, it puts other manufacturers to shame. So good to see some reasonable prices.
I agree - so glad they've started producing a few more models again! Very reasonable prices indeed,
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Just a thought, I'd be a nice little detail if you had your O gauge layout shuttling back and forward in the background while you make these news updates!
I literally just thought "it's been a while since we had train news" and then the notification popped up😅
hahaha I aim to please!! ;D
Bachmann recently released Ryan from Thomas and Friends, I don't think it was mentioned
They are superb and well worth it.
We got ours from the Bluebell shop.
Great video here Sam, I’m definitely looking into the 10800 locomotive from heljan as that will go really well with the rest of my prototype locomotives.
Thanks a lot David - that sounds fantastic!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I’m confused, the Caledonian train pack hasn’t been cancelled! I still have mine on the way. And it’s still on the Hornsby website!
I think the problem is that they have had too many ordered, I ordered it almost as soon as I came out and mine hasn’t been cancelled
It’s cancelled as far as I know - and it’s no longer on the Hornby website as far as I can tell!
Oh ok. I wasn’t aware they had gotten rid of it. Thx for the info
Shame that the Caledonian Single pack was cancelled. It’s a remarkable locomotive that doesn’t get much attention from manufacturers anymore.
I agree - we really need a new tooled one!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I hope we get compensation in the form of another Caledonian
I live in the states and have an Accurascale Manor Class on preorder? Does anyone know/have any updates on where Accurascale is at with those?
I like the grey one😊
Me too! :D
The situation with Sonic and Rapido is unfortunate. I spotted on the forums that Rails held off on the vans until the Rapido ones had sold through. I guess things worked both ways as Rapido let rails sell through their Iron Mink before announcing their own
I'd actually like to see Sam review a VIX van from Sonic, he could do a good comparison review. Maybe if the price drops a bit after release?
I want the P class but I’m stuck on which one. As nice as it looks, I feel like BR black would be a waste when the Blue and SECR green are available.
Hi Sam, great video, its a shame Hatton's aren't bringing out a yellow livery war well wagon like they did the first time round, they are popular in the model world, i have seen so many of the older version ones for sale all the time, the yellow one is as rare as a politician telling the truth.
Ooh don't think I remember seeing a yellow one - maybe they're trying a few different ones this time??
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I've ordered the br black 3802 from dapol.
Hello Sam from NZ thanks for the may update . Cheers
Hi Sam after saying about DCC and dc not compatible dose this mean have to have two separate layouts or can you point me to a place I can read up on hope you help thank you
I have been wanting a P Class but I never could get one. The only one on EBay I could find was 400 US Dollars.
For the current state of the hobby, cost-wise, those hattons models are incredible. Still out of my reach, but probably in the reach of many.
What is that big red crane looking thing on the shelf? Is it American O gauge? :o
You'll have to wait and see ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam, Thanks for your time, Very exciting news, lots to look forward to, All the best Brian 😃
No loss to hornby, perhaps now there be some decent suburban southern emu trains class 405/415/455-6 which are missing from the market
So, Sam, whatcha think about the reveal of livery samples for Dapol's new Hawthorn-Leslie tooling?
Another vote asking for you to raise the N scale profile on your channel, Sam. Otherwise an excellent production 👍
Anyone know if Hattons will be re-releasing the RHTT?
Always enjoy hearing news about all the different manufacturers, will you be reviewing the LNER Azuma train sets in the near future?
Hi Sam, great update as always. Will you be tempted to buy one or more P class at such an amazing bargain price?? I feel a Warwell coming on. Secretly hoping their 14xx will be making an appearance. Cheers
Yes I will be tempted... and excellent news on the Warwell, those were great! The 14xx would be cool to see, not sure what those were like at all!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sam I have been to Elie's clarks shop I will suggest you should get the black 5 in 0 gage you would really like it it is really nice
To be honest I've never trusted Hornby with DCC or any other complicated electronics, their whole brand just screams incompetent in recent years. 😂
haha I don't blame you - not a great experience so far with HM7000 for me!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hornby designed the computer software for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) so it can't be all bad
@@SamsTrainsI hope you do a review on a P class with the Bluebell livery i just like that livery so much

@@MickCampin-jp9kb Huh really?
I think you should review the cheaper version of the Hattons models. You might just get what you pay for. It does sound amazing that they can turn the prices down, but it also sounds kind of unrealistic given every one else turns theirs up. Maybe worth checking out to see if Hattons is saving some money on the quality.
So far Sam we have 3 new steam loco announced this month. Hopefully next month there will be more.
Cheers Jasper & Willow
Hopefully!! Fingers crossed :D
Sam The Caledonian loco was released in a Train Pack in 2007, catalogue number R2610. I mention this in case you want to keep an eye out for one.
I really wish someone would make a CR 721 Dunalastair, I would buy one for sure.

really wanted to get the HM controller versions but after seeing this. Massively conflicted, cause having everything BT is very appealing to me. Cause when my nephews pop over to play they can just use their phones. Just dont know....
It is a good system! Just don't power it on a DC controller, and don't expect the Next18 decoders to fit in any of your OO locos, otherwise it's well worth it :D

Sam you got to get those quad art coaches I really love those coaches.
The return of the OO Scale Bluebell? I'm extremely tempted to pre-order one; just to have.
YAYY BLUEBELL IS BACK
To be absolutely fair about Simon, he has done many great things for Hornby and has worked hard but he really needs a rest.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the HM7000 fiasco. That really should have been adequately tested before release...
@@SamsTrains I agree not all of it is down to Simon its not all his fault at all
@@johncunningham6928 yeah that was a right cock up
@@trainman86trainstramsandmore Plus one for me. At least, we can get him a point for keeping Hornby afloat, and launching the Pecketts.

I’ve really enjoyed you videos Sam! I have recently purchased a Bachman br black b1 and am trying to find some good wagons and freight cars to pull behind it, I currently have some Oxford rail pilchard wagons and a boogied break van from Bachman, any other ideas?

I've just cancelled my pre-order for the Heljan 10800, £215 plus change is just far too expensive for an OO loco that I was already borderline about in the first place.
Similarly I like the look of the Quadart coach set, but I'm going to have to think long and hard about whether they're worth the £325 price tag.
Awesome video today Sam lots of things to look forward to plus Ryan is out in America
Thanks James! Yes I heard about Ryan - hoping to get one soon :D

Hey Sam i have just started to get interested in model trains and i was wondering what to get, so if you could help me out i would appreciate it, thank you and have a nice day.(budget £213 tracks included)
When is the upcoming on to android
@@SamsTrains Hopefully Hattons are not changing any of the specifications.
I might treat myself to the bluebell p class. 😊

Maybe have a section on n gauge
£254.95 for a small Bo-Bo diesel is just shocking... that's the same as three Hattons P Classes!
Also, the weathered versions have an eye-watering RRP of £274.95. That's only £5 less than I paid for my new Bachmann Class 37 last week, and that's a significantly larger loco... with sound!
I agree - shocking indeed. I won't be trying one!
