it's so amazing . I heard it for the first time while I was riding the bus and I couldn't stop shaking my head in disbelief ...like , how tf can somebody write such an spectacular song ?!?!
This is my new favorite song. He sounds so raw and passionate. It's been so long since a song made me feel this way.Honestly that instrument solo at the end hits different.
I think about my german grandparents when listening to this song. They were raised in the 30s, always told to stay tough and to never cry. They had to function and finally in WWII my grandfather was ordered to fight at the age of 15-16. After being held as prisoner he returned home, found a family. Both of them never showed affection for one another or for their children. Their shield of ice seemed to melt a bit when me and my brother were born, but they still treated my mum and my aunts quite poorly. They rarely spoke about their past. My mum still tears up when she thinks about her childhood full of violence and cold distance, but she never got an explanation or an apology of any kind. This trauma will stay behind.
This is literally one of the best buildups I've ever heard, if not the best maybe. I'd love to hear an alternative version after the drop, with something like the final part of Neon Brothers
How to understand if a song is really special? I've probably listened to it 1000 times and every single time the song climax pulls strings out of me. Very powerful and emotional
I think I can boldly claim that this is the greatest and most stunning, jaw-dropping and beautiful climax of any song I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
There's just something UNMATCHED about the last 1:50 minutes of this song. Kept replaying it since yesterday, and everytime it sends shivers down my spine
When my girlfriend introduced me to Nothing But Thieves I arrogantly dismissed them as a "Muse Cover Band" for her generation. But this band has consistently surprised me, never more so than when I first heard the outro to this song!
In my short life only Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, have dropped a tune so edgy it became an anchor in time for me. This feels like the evolution of those snapshots into a new moment. A new stop sign. To pause and go crikey.
Damn, this brought me to tears. Does someone else have a complicated relationship with their narcissistic father? I’d love to know the backstory for this. Thanks for the therapy via music!
I thought the same exact thing as I listened to "i don't think i will ever get over you" ....even if you want to...the emotionnal power they have over you is almost impossible to overcome
I understand your pain. I have two parents with narcissistic tendencies. Haven't seen or spoken to them in 17 years. They treat me like shit and whenever I try to set boundaries: I'm dumped again. Stay strong my friend!
I relate and I’ve known deep screeching despair because of it. In my case it’s my mother. Sending you all love, overcoming this is possible. Hang in there and feel YOUR emotions. Glad this music is here for us💔❤️🩹❤️🔥
3 years later and it’s still in my top 5 songs of all time. It’s just too important for me; it released during Covid and I was going through the teenage phase. Pure emotions and nostalgia.
I rarely fanboy over modern bands but these guys just strike a chord with me. Haven't felt this way about a band since I discovered Zeppelin 16 years ago. I knew "Amsterdam" for like 2 years, it's one of my favourite songs ever. I never looked into them more for that entire time though. They're definitely in my top 3 favourite bands now, for a musically picky person like me, that says a lot for a modern band.
It's weird how every song these guys hhave released recently have matched my feelings, it's like they're in my head. Thank you to the band for being so inspiring and awesome, I hope one day to meet you guys and just say thanks in person :)
First time hearing this song, started crying so hard, partner came from another room to check on me. Idk the original meaning meant, but it felt like the loss of a parent you have conflicting feelings for - because they weren't good people/parent. From my experience, that's a lot of people, especially this year. It really hits a nerve... even if that's not what it means. Sometimes we need that nerve hit to feel more ourselves after. Seriously, Thanks.
I know Conors dealt with mental health issues like depression n has taken medication for it quite a few of their songs are about that struggle. I love them so much for bringing light to those struggles without drugs or alcohol.
I was literally dumped the day this came out. Thought my life was over. I cried endlessly to this song. Poor me. I wish I could go back and give myself a hug. With someone a million times better who I met 3 weeks after this song came out. Universe is so random.
I NEED to eventually hear this live. That would be the most incredible experience. I haven't heard a song that's made me feel like this in what feels like an extremely long time.
I was at their concert a few days ago and they played this song. Haven't heard this before and I was immediately falling in love with it. It was unbelievable! Hope you get to see them live :)
Oh god, this is a masterpiece, I'm literally in tears. I thought I was ok with the death of my narcissistic mother more than ten years ago. But now I don't think I'll ever get over it.
I knew the drop/build up was coming, but I didn't expect it to be SO intense, and it clearly fits the different states of mind when you have a complicated relationship with your father.
I love to put on my headphones, listen to NBT and do nothing else but live the moment, out of this world. I close my eyes and it's a powerful feeling. A great relief from the first notes.
From the heart the soul the depths of the core... Those dark corners of the mind.... Excelled in expression and evaded any others shade. True Artists musicians and storytellers. Heart is aching in a twisted pleasurable pain! Thank f*** i found Nothing but thieves
Your voice, when it breaks, is amazing. But when it shows pure emotion, it connects me to music on a spiritual level. There is so much power in vulnerability 🔥
For me, every NBT song is like a delicate gift Given to me by a loved one with so much attention and heart in it. I can keep unwrapping these gifts, unlimitly, when and where I like And each time, I am blown away by discovering a new layer of pure professionally and talent. I am not religious, but from now on, NBT is my religion.
amazing track... the vocal part in the verse is beyond next lvl... with headphones and my eyes closed it feels like the verse is devouring me... in a good way
i've been listening carefully to all the albums and ep's, including unreleased songs like "i need air" for the past few weeks, and i've come so far, i couldn't resist to add every song i heard in my NBT playlist, and i am a very picky person. I fucking sear it never happened to me to enjoy every song of a band, and i don't even listen to much rock, now i only have to listen to their last album, but i alreaddy know it's going in my playlist, i'm so happy i found out abouot them
this has to be a new favourite of mine from them. I'm just continually impressed with every release. I'm just so glad these guys are out there makin music man, thank you NBT.
Just recently got in to nothing but thieves and found this song, oh my f*cking Christ this song is amazing. I can’t stop listening. That end bit, I’m in love

A lot of people comparing the song to Radiohead and Muse which I agree with, but also Moby, Everloving, springs to mind. Anyway, one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. Best on the EP.
This song came out exactly when i needed a song like this. I love how Y’all bring realness into your songs and don’t speak on what people wanna hear but what they need to hear. Not a single song by y’all are bad. You guys are amazing

They only get better and better, like a fine wine.
RIGHT!!
There´s actually 3 EP
3 albums? Only?
They have 4 albums, but yes I get ur point and you're damn right.
The climax in this song is unreal. This band are so good at tapping into your emotions. Very clever musicians.

Just about to say the same thing

What the actual fuck, that change at 3:18. You never cease to amaze me.
Not enough people are talking about that 56 second buildup. That way new things are slowly added one by one is absolutely incredible
2:32 - 3:28
Listened to this whilst running a world record, and I think it hit at every tough point and I balled my eyes out every time! Outstanding!!
