In short for who came from google: HOLD F11 at startup. Not sure why pressing it repeatedly doesn't work. In the one I had to use, it wasn't even F11 for some reason, but holding the keys from the start at least helped.

Weirdly enough my favorite laptop until now is one not that upgradable, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2. It's really light, great speakers, great battery and decently powerful. The only problem is that I was not bright enough to keep it :))
