Well done Mike! That was impressive. I liked how you made some links through Engineers and Producers and Cover Artists, not just musicians. You made some connections with some albums that I have and I didn’t even realize they were connected. I somehow didn’t know that King Kong on First Base was a Zappa cover. I had a crappy copy of that album and then was able to find a nice VG+ copy and I swapped them out. I was happy to make that upgrade because I really enjoy that Babe Ruth album. I also really enjoy Drama. Trevor Horne does a great job, and those were some big shoes to fill. I always see Drama for very cheap. I bought my copy at a Record Show for $5 and it is almost NM. You also managed to make a loop with your records which is even more impressive. Well done again, this one was fun to watch.
Yes it was almost a complete loop, but I couldn't link specifically back to the War album. That took me a lot more time to put together after hitting a few dead ends, but I didn't want to make it completely with obvious links unless I had to. I learned quite a bit about links I wasn't even aware of. It was a lot of fun and thanks for bringing that thread back!
That probably took more time to put together than it should have, but I learned of a lot of connections between some albums I never would have thought about.
Very interesting river of musical connections ! I do like Drama ( Yes ) as well. I have the Babe Ruth debut on the way in the mail.. Can't wait to spin it, I have streamed a bit of the album. Good tid bit about Don Preston and onto Yello, then B.A.D. ! Nice work on this one, Mike 😊
I have a good feeling that you will love that Babe Ruth album, and you'll probably want their other albums, which are also good even with their differing line-ups. That thread was a lot of fun to do and I learned a lot of stuff by digging into it just a little bit further.
This is quite the challenge. I tend to listen to earlier U2 titles more often than I used to. I really loved the work that they did in the '90s and early 2000s, but it's their '80s output that really connects with me. Mike, this is impressive. I'm sure you had to do a lot of homework. I love the link to the Pearl Jam classic. Stardust by Willie is beautifully produced and recorded. I love that big audio dynamic album. Great video, Mike. You have so many great albums.
@@mad4vinyl802 I love the music of so many artists that I doubt I'll ever feel like my collection is complete. I agree that the earlier U2 is the music that I'm more drawn to. War has to be my favorite but that was my first U2 album I owned. It was recommended by a store owner and was a group not many people heard of at the time, so it was right after it was released. It was love at first listen. At that time I never imagined they would end up as big as they got. That was a fun thread and I learned a lot from it but it did take a lot of work to put it together.
Great response to this challenge. It's great seeing Gong. Angel's Egg is awesome - I love that whole Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy. I did one of these 3 or 4 years ago - James Griffiths was the person who started that thread. It may have been done by someone else before he did one. I think that thread was 15 albums...Thanks for showing the records!
I agree about Gong, I love all three of that trilogy, but I have only been able to find Angel's Egg. I guess it's a band you have to be able to spend money on to get a good copy. The cover on the copy I have is pretty ratty, but at least the vinyl is in good shape.
@@TCatsDeepVinylTraxx You should check into the Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy box set - that's what I have. If you can listen to CDs. I prefer vinyl but as you mentioned those records are not easy to find, so the CD box set (it really is more like a book) is perfect with an extra CD included. I did actually see a Gong record last time I was at the record store but they were asking $50+ for it! Anyway, good luck!
Well done Mike. I did this thread whenever Dillon started it, and it was a very fun challenge. That Babe Ruth album is great, I’ve had it for yonks. Great that you were able to loop it back to Irvine. Cheers.
Sounds like quite a challenge. War is a great starting point and you showed my favorite Pogues album. I do need to get more music by My Morning Jacket. I like the Willie Nelson connection as I did not know it was produced by Booker T. Jones. Great way to bring it back around with Jimmy Iovine who produced a lot of albums I like.
@@RandyforRoyals Taking the not-so-obvious route in this was tougher but I also learned about a lot of connections that I didn't know before. I didn't know about the Willie Nelson connection either before doing this. As far as MMJ, I would start with either "It Still Moves' or "Z" but they have a lot of great albums.
I considered this thread, but I found it to be too challenging, so I gave up 😔Of course, I am happy to see OMD in your chain. It would have been cool if you could link to yourself, but I guess that is asking too much! 🤣🙂
@@EmbryonicRobot Hmmm as far as I know, The Gazaans (the band I was in) never released an album. But Jimmy Iovine did consider us...a threat to music as a whole. 😜

Great chain! Duck Dunn, nice. Gong, Yes Drama to Babe Ruth, great - I love that Babe Ruth album! Love that Yellow song. Way to loop it! Cheers

Yeah, Mike.. I'm on a heavy/ hard rock kick, lately. Armageddon with Keith Relf has been a good acquisition, lately too !
