Finally someone with some good sense about torque management. I have 271,000 miles on my 4l60e. 100k miles with a camshaft and tuned with a wideband. 22k miles with a turbo. A sonnax .490 boost valve and corvette servo helps.
Wow. I'm shocked. I likecto hear that shit. 👍
My boosted Silverado lasted 220k lmao about 50k with boost. And a stock 4l60 ahah just got the Truck Norris cam kit in the mail yesterday time to upgrade to come chop chop
Well u lucky as hell cause these suck and I've been thru probably more than most and some name brands u have heard of and they suck also 😂
@@benjamincarvin8031 no they don’t suck. Your builders and tuner sucks. You have to have torque management enabled. If you don’t, the way the gears are applied in a 4l60, it’ll lives short life without it and especially if you stupidly add a shift kit. Shift kit is junk. Here’s a video of my sons boosted 5.3 Silverado with a 4l60 I built a couple years ago. Most builders half ass the build. I actually just repaired a $5000 4l60 from finish line transmissions.

I'm defiantly a fly by night tuner, thanks matt for helping me be better. so many answered questions lol
Fly by night lol
You, LT, and Richard Holdener are my go-to guys when it comes to the most technical info regarding GMT800 trucks. Keep up the amazing work and it's a crime you don't have more followers!
you got it right! Do everything as right as you can.
Wow, even LT watches Matt. Fan of both of yours, keep up the good work guys. Thanks
Absolutely 100%
I am the same way and I know you are too, LT.
Do it as right as you can and make it seem and look as OEM as possible.
Everyday I see all the effort you put into this COPO truck I bought from you - it has been an absolutely awesome daily driver man.
Thanks.
Later.
A few minutes into your video I went to check my spacer on the truck. Tuner put a tbss intake on my 5.3 with stock cable throttle and one of those adapters. It didn’t have the iac groove but it appears he took a dremel to it and cut it right open… no wonder it idles like hot garbage. Ordered the proper one now!
I just subbed im workin on tuning my 02 suburban now cause the last person that tuned it had it pug rich
Such good info. I have tuned dozens of DBW trucks but just did my sons DBC truck and my first one at that... definitely a different process. My tuner friend told me that it's rare you get a truck in for a tune, and he doesn't have to wrench on it to some extent.
🎉great tune up and performance recommendations for the customer. I always thought a good battery and charging system check would be great way start the road tune and compare the live data numbers vs. the dyna tune numbers after as a final check. Good tune under the circumstances for good customer service .
Good work!!!🎉😅🎉
I would be so nervous doing PCM flashes with a dead battery, you are very brave lol. Great video regardless lots of good info I will be using in dialing in the tune on my truck. Thanks for the awesome content!
No kidding 😂😂
Exhaust vibrations can also cause false knock as well. Pull plugs to verify
New to the channel, quality content. Going to start to learn on my 09 Avalanche with a L96 truck norris swap. I have a feeling I'm going to learn alot from your channel, thank you. Have a mpvi3 and credits
I appreciate your honesty and passion for tuning. You mentioned that you could teach step-by-step everything about tuning. Well, I'm just getting started with my '03 GMC Yukon XL. Can you teach me step-by-step?
Thanks!
Thanks!

This has always happened to my truck when trying to pass. When I am at speed 4th gear, any speed, I try to pass and it doesn't accelarate it falls flat on its face. Sometime before I pass I tap the brakes and I guess that gets it out of lockup and I can accelerate easily. My other option is to floor it but it also has a small delay. Here is what I want to do. I looked in VCM Editor under the transmission and want to change these things. Is there any changes recommended. I saw torque management but being a 4l60e that is iffy. Maybe remove some of it. I just want to give it gas and accelerate. Not racing it or driving all out. Just a daily driver and stay away from other drivers. Thanks for your help. :usa:

I had trouble with my fitech on my 02 extended cab and tbss intake it ended up being the fact that there were two bolt holes for the tps sensor. The WOT voltage was 3.74v. It idles fine without pedaling the throttle goes in gear without dying now and now there’s no hesitation when WOT down shifting. It had a horrible hesitation down low as well.
Damn that thing is seriously down on power. My Truck Norris suburban made 325/335 on a dynojet, and 292/311 on a mustang. Short headers and catless Y pipe. It made 240/254 on the mustang bone stock.
Love your content man, good stuff! A quick comment/observation: The only way the IAC port size could act as a restriction(too small on some aftermarket tbs) would be if the actual IAC pintle/seat was capable of out-flowing it, and don't think it could(IAC pintle seat bore would have to be larger than the FiTech TB IAC port, and it has the pintle sitting in the flow). Secondly, (and without flow testing those setups or doing the math, but just visually) I suspect that ~1/8"x/1/2" channel on the ICT adapter probably flows less than the round port on the FiTech TB. In know that the TPS on that tb was clocked wrong so that one needed to go, but I just don't think the tb idle issues you mentioned you've seen on other occasions are/were actually driven by bypass air port size. You can bet GM's supplier made the ports way oversized to minimize machining steps $$ (only the IAC seat needs to be that precise, the bypass ports are as cast -as long as they flow more than max pintle/seat flow you're good), and maybe save a little aluminum cost as well.
I need to get a hp tuner. Great information in all your videos
Loving this channel man. Great video keep them coming.
Thank you!
@@Matt_Sanfordmore on the VE BSFC histo. Btw I am OCD like you.
The last 01 suburban I tuned with a truck norris cam and long tubes I had making the 1-2 and at 6200 and the 2-3 at 6100 and got a LOT of hate on the page I posted it on. I'm not saying the haters are right or that your wrong I'm just telling the feedback I got from that. The truck has been in service for about 6-8 months now with no issues that I know of.
My 4.8 with ls6 cam was shifting 6300 1-2 and 6200 2-3
Wish you could look at my tune. Guy that tuned my truck didn’t have a care in the world. Think you would have a good laugh and also be scared.
You can have him tune it. He sells the remote tuning on his website.
Great video! Super excited to learn! Thanks for sharing!
Amazing amount of info delivered.
Glad you think so!
That truck sounds sick!
I had a idle air control valve that was so dirty that it's stuck in the hole in the tb and when it tried to open i it unscrewed it from the solenoid leaving the plunger stuck in the hole. Talking about idle issues. That will definitely do it. No I make it a routine to pull it out and check it and clean it every 6 months. This was on my daily driver that I used to put about 400 to 500 miles a week on. Retired now and I doubt if I do 200 a week but I still check it.
You got me totally thinking about these throttle bodies . On my dad’s 73 Camaro swap i did , I was in a pinch so i got a China throttle body and what a pile ,lesson learned on that. I ordered a Gm one (same part as this ) and it made it run so much better. Needs tuning now as it breaks up a bit at some lighter throttle 1/4 to 1/2 but a lot of its hiccups have been cured just on that throttle body change alone ..
I have 2004 Joe Gibbs Performance Silverado I did custom cam swap more boost. Had a guy tune it and it set for 3 years it now has map sensor code it idles high in gear ect. It be a great vid to do on.
lol No issues with my Fitech 92mm on TBSS with 4” diameter intake. IAC vs effective area needs scaling. 0.0v tps throttle blade screw barely turned in
Thanks for the video and the transmission tips.
Awesome videos on content that normal people build. I am tuning a 2005 yukon with the truck norris cam and some tsp ported heads with bigger valves on a nice 5.3 bottom end. Everything is going great except I am getting like 150 lbs of torque at in gear idle. Have pulled timing and what not and it still just make a ton at 750 rpms. Don't understand what is causing the issue. Every time I do a truck I learn something new. This one is being a challenge.
Too much motor for stock converter
Does that stock 78mm tb take away from the gains from a tbss intake
I definitely need help with my tune I’d be interested in sending my tune
Awesome video happened so fast i didn't retain any of it even watching several times makes me super scared to get my truck turned now not huge setup but just built trans and change gears and tire size and scared trans will burn up without tune thanks for this info and your time
If it's a 4l60 probably so lol 😂 been thru a bunch over here they suck
Fantastic work👍
Wait. You said they need more timing at peak power then said they need less at higher in the rpm band. So it needs both more and less timing?
Could you take a carbide bit and make the hole bigger on that after market throttle body to increase the size for the air flow to be better?
So glad I found you and thank u for your help
Awesome video. I would love to send you my tune so you can take a look at it and see what your thoughts are.
I have 102mm TB on my n/a 5.3 and the only thing it does right is idle lol HP tuners will be here this week need a driveability tune bad!
I would love for you to look at my tune. I have a 04 silverado crew cab with a gen 3 5.3l. Stage 3 tsp cam, 1⅞ tsp long tube headers, upgraded heads. 2800 , some head work. I have no idea what I'm doing with tunning but got an hp tuners just to learn. Truck runs decent just don't have anything in 1st gear. Runs at high rpm but goes nowhere. I'm down for the rate my tune
I have a 5.3 with a sloppy stage 2 tryed to tune and bs lol need help in California and i just have that cam
funny. My friend recently bought one of those throttle bodies from Amazon and I couldn't get it to run right until I swapped the original tps and IAC valve from the oem throttle body. Brand new bad out of the box just like most of the sensors we get at the parts stores these days...
How i can i get in touch with you personally to get a lesson in tuning for my personal trucks
I’m thinking of putting a cam in my 5.3. Probably would be a truck noris cam. It is a drive by wire so I’m just curious would I run into idle problems if I swapped the throttle body and would swapping the intake manifold effect it at all as well?
He is missing a transmission pan bolt to😂 awesome video
99% of tuners delete torque management and that’s what kills the trans. I went to the track with my turbo gto and turning it off made zero difference. But it did break my output shaft on the second run with it off.
If it dont make any difference why is it breaking things? Honestly curious
@ because it makes it shift harder. A harder shift breaks parts. Seriously, I went to the drag strip and tested it. I didn’t even go a tenth faster and it ended up breaking the output shaft. EVERY newer car that has decent power has tq management on the shifts. Even the trucks. You can hear it cut out for a split second.
@ here’s a short video of my sons truck. It’s turboed, I’m pulling 20 degrees on the 1-2 and 15 degrees on the 2-3. You can tell it doesn’t slow it down. I tuned it, built the trans (4l60) the rear end and the transfer case. Stock 5.3 on 12lbs of boost.

when you tune a 99 - 02 5.3 for catless long tubes what tune do you have to do, I deleted the air pump and 0'd that table out what else should I do
Ok so what's the idle fix for an engine that does need the larger throttle body due to more extreme engine modifications?
Do you have a video on using 93 over 87 octane, just did a build on a 2004 5.3 and currently running 87 and was wondering if going to 93 was worth it
Very nice video.
Sincere thanks for all the info.
Are you willing to share your injection timing for the Truck Norris cam?
I noticed your long term fuel trim is zeroed out is there a reason for that?
Cheers.
What did you notice with the incorrect throttle body?
Does a 5.3 need a convertor with a truck Norris can upgrade.. 2003 Silverado
What is another option besides hp tuner ? To tune these?
Do you still offer rate my tune have one that keeps fighting I'm not professional but trying to get this thing figured out
New to hp tuners. Trying to figure it out. Got my 5.3 with trick noris cam. Had my tuner do his thing on it but having issues in idle. Mostly in drive. It almost dies about 3 seconds after coming to a stop. If I manually drop shifter down to 3 it’s the same thing. If I drop in 2 or 1 it idles nice. In reverse idles nice. Please help if u can. I can send you my tune file. Take a look if you can and let me know how you can help me.
Hey Matt!
Im not sure if i missed this or not, but under fuel cut off or DFCO tab, RPM Limits- there is a "bad vss cutoff" set to 5500rpm. Would this have to b3 raised as well? I have a 5.3 turbo 7875 completely stock truck with a 4l80e, followed this video very well, but I seem to be limited at 5500 and bouncing off the limiter... 😅 Im not sure if i should change that above my shift speed, SD 2bar 12psi 10 deg timing 93 pump 😁 Also this is in a 84 crew cab chevy dually. Amazing videos, please keep this up!!
Do u do mail 8n tune
Are you running it on the dyno in 2nd gear due to the driveshaft speed? 2nd gear is 1.625:1 compared to 3rd being 1.00:1 which would be ideal.
That guy is 40-50hp down. Hopefully some fresh 93, good tune up, and exhaust addressed will bring the numbers up.
Is there any way to modify the fitech throttle body in order to accept the correct amount of airflow?
Any tips for truck Norris cam on a 02 2500hd rebuilt 20 over pistons everything else stock just doesn't seem to have any bottom end bought the programmed computer from Michigan motor sports then had it tuned by a shop just seems like it should perform better also did egr delete
Which norris cam is in it. And do u need any other upgrades to accommodate the cam. Or is the cam ok by itself installed.
Where are you located? I'd love to have you tune my truck once I put the cam in. It's got a tune from a shop but I assume it could be optimized more. Also does the truck need larger injectors with the truck norris cam?
Why don't you copy the tables/settings into the performance side and only the normal/cruise table?
if they were symetrical i would be ok with it... maybe.... depends on my mood that day i guess... function vs esthetics vs servicability,,,, but i do agree with ya!
How much do you usually charge to tune a 2500hd like this? Mine is the same as this with the truck norris and shorty headers. What is the most co st effective way to get into being able to tune my own truck? Oh mine does have the 4L80 instead of the 60.
How far can you drive after cam swap before tune? Tuner is about 30 mile drive from me.
Subcribed! I would love to see you go over discuss other tunes. Great idea
Could the timing be wanting to be pulled bc it was calling to shift even tho you had it locked ? another question why keep shift lock enabled? Keep up the good content! I lmao at that ve u pulled up lol
Reason im asking is cause after my cam swap when i go to start the truck it sometimes takes 1 crank and the truck fires up or sometimes it take 1 crank and wont fire let off the key real fast and next crank fires right up. No one can help or give me an answer why. i do notice tps is around 0.8% when this happens and 0.4% when it doesnt. I have HP tuners software 6.0 p01 pcm truck norris cam. Never had this issue prior to cam, and head swap.
Put the weather guard on the front of it 💯
Awesome video bud am running the same setup on mine 2001 same throttle body I keep having issues with the 92mm keeps shutting off once in a while specially when it’s cold do you recommend switching back to the stock one?
What’s the best shifting for 4l60e for 2008 Chevrolet avalanche 5.3l stock
Whats the name of your shop?Want to get in touch with you about pricing for tuning.I have a 09 sierra with choppacobra cam.
Hey Matt could u plz tell me where ur located for a tune?
Another good one Matt. This answered most of my questions about the aftermarket throttle body Facebook post. Lol
Does the paper gasket on the adapter do ok with boosted stuff if we decide to use a stocker on a tbss style intake?
Yeah that Paper gasket will be fine. Both surfaces are machined well.
Do you have to buy the 400$ interface?
On 16:13 you are talking about the spark table and timing been over advance. I would like to know about it some more. Do you have a reference video where you explain that more in depth?
If its overadvanced it will spark knock and could possibly destroy the engine. It should pick up on knock sensor maybe someone more advanced can confirm about knock sensor. I know the first statement is correct
What to do to the 4l60 to make it last awhile in a truck or ls swap??
In the past i recall people saying the 1999 pcm’s were prone to false knock. Have you ever encountered that?
I have. Go under Knock Sensor Global Gain and compare to a little bit newer truck. You will see what to change.
Hey man you do remote tunes? I got a gen4 LS with a truck Norris cam and 6L80 I need tuned in a ‘70 c10. I have hp tuners dongle and software….Houston Texas
is that a nsr cam? your leaving power on the table. that cam can easily carry power to 6500 in a 5.3
Would you tune a 4l80e any different?
Thanks for the content. Between you and @silversurfer77 I have gained a wealth of knowledge
Do you do email tuning
How can I get you to tune my BTR stage 3 5.3?
Hey since you've done so many of those Truck Norris cam tuning, what is the correct / best idle rpm for them? I saw in this video around 800-825 rpm, would that cam in 6.0 require a different idle rpm? Thanks in advance!
It depends on the torque converter, gear, weight of the vehicle, etc. Most 6.0s would want between 725-800 in gear and between 750-850 in park from what I have seen so far.
Can I get some help to tune my 2014 6.0 823 heads with 6L90E 411 gears
What state you in for a tune . Customer should of used chopacobra lol 😝
Where do you get the tunned by bluecat, and how much does it cost
The software is free. I put the link in the description on my 6L80/6L90 tuning video.
Thanks for all the info and training. Have you experienced a 4l60e that shifts from 1st to 4th before 10mph. No codes and fresh transmission build. Any insight would be appreciated

Have you ever had a 6.0 Gen 3 truck fail write with aftermarket radio and alarm system? If so can you make a video on how to go around that. Thank you, loving all your vids so far!
Happens all the time with the 2003-2006 P59 ECM.
@@Matt_Sanford is there any tips or tricks for it ? My method is pulling radio fuse and un plugging the radio harness, disconnecting the battery and flashing it with a battery charger on it.
@@2sslogan I always have to pull the radio fuse on my 2003 . It's just a fact with these.
My best advice is go to the junkyard and make your own bench harness. One day my 03 avalanche with p59 decided it didn't want to write for 2 days. I almost bought a bench harness so instead I wasted about $40 and made my own bench harness

Just found your channel thru a comment on a Goat Rope Garage video. Nice. I have 6.0, 243 heads, Truck Norris cam and factory manifolds and cats on my 200k mile Silverado . So ya think I"m missing quite a it not having long tubes? Thanks
Yes you are costing yourself HP and TQ not having Longtubes. It’s a very drastic difference for sure.

Help from Long Island ny. My son and I took our trucks (Silverado with cam head work etc, awd trailblazer ss ls3 with cam head package) to a performance shop out here and both trucks running like 💩. Where you located I will ship cars/ ecu w.e please help us.
My son’s Silverado transmission went out 2 days after tuning. Was perfectly fine prior. I’m scared to drive my tbss. My truck have a stage 4 rpm transmission. I don’t want to break anything else. My son and I are getting his transmission rebuild and going to install it back in but I’m sure the tune wiped out the transmission. Need you expertise
Amazing video thanks
Good video. Just a tumbled on this and subscribed. Fixing to do a swap. Do you do vats delete and if not who would you recommend. You are probably close enough for me that I will look into getting my truck to you when I get it ready.
Yes I can do both! Thanks for the sub and the kind words!
Hey, just found your channel and really like your style. Two questions for my 06 5.3L GMC 4x4 crew cab, if going for reliable driveable power would you go forced injection or truck norris with springs and long tubes, and with 4L60E would you recommend a corvette servo upgrade or stock with trans kit or both...thanks for your effort in good content
A TorqStorm Supercharger kit and a Corvette Servo is a combo I like that retains fuel mileage and drivability but still make good power.
