  • It's like I'm living in opposite world. Just when I think I know what DCA is (or isn't), the opposite happens and I'm left wondering if I know anything at all. We had a fascinating day in the park as we went through every land, and every attraction as part of our State of DCA report. Highs and Lows. Good and Bad.

    You nailed it on the head about the difficulties of DCA in the heat. Getting to Pixar Pier is punishment mid-day. With the lack of vegetation and abundance of concrete, there is a lot of thermal mass and I generally avoid that park in the summer until after the sun goes down. We jokingly call it "Disney Concrete Adventure". The loss of Bug's Land was a big blow for places to escape the sun.

      Yes! Cars Land at least leans into the hot Arizona theme, but Avengers Campus and Pixar Pier don't even try to provide shade.

      Agree! More trees and misters need to be installed. We don’t even bother with DCA when we go during the summer.

      Epcot also is a concrete expanse. They took out the central fountain (of nations?) and the water pool in front of energy pavilion. They’ve got the Moana water deal, and that helps. But still need more water and shade. It’s brutal. Good that it rains so much in Florida. ;)

    Animation Academy is so underrated and such a fun thing to do, and that room of screens is really pretty with all the animations and music. It's also nice and cool in there. It's the kind of thing I wish Disney would do more of. These little shows and bits of entertainment.

      Agree, we had small kids and always had a great time in Bugs Land, it was fun and lush and creative. Will never forget the popsicle stick benches! There is no replacement as far as a kid-friendly area with small rides at DCA, such a weird omission strategically.

    Avengers campus is a total joke. The ride is garbage. The entire land consists of cement with absolutely no character, water or movement. Then they went and got rid of the only two shows that made anything out of this ridiculous area. The only way this area can be saved is if they build the most incredible e-ticket attraction ever. And it needs to be an indoor roller coaster. The end.

    • @grantj1803
      @grantj1803 2 месяца назад +1

      I somewhat agree with you. Avengers Campus couldn't thrive unless that e-ticket attraction was already built. They never should've canceled the original concept for the e-ticket. Yet Iger keeps prioritizing the avatar experience more than the Avengers e-ticket. I hope D23 will announce something regarding that soon.

    Disneylands indoor or mostly indoor heavily themed queues are amazing. Then you go to DCA where you might as well be at Six flags. Little to no queue theming and it’s almost completely outdoors. It makes a huge difference to the overall vibe.

Now- I admit- my park strategy always, is to let Disney surprise me and I have rarely been disappointed. I feel like a Friday is not a typical DCA day for most families. I feel like most start their multi day trips on either Monday or Friday. If you do a 3 day pass and do DLR, DCA, then DLR then your biggest DCA days would be Tuesdays and Saturdays. This is just a theory, maybe its accurate, maybe not.

  • @thebluetarp
    @thebluetarp 2 месяца назад +1

    It's very simple David why DCA is more busy at night. It's alcohol. Yay for alcohol and getting drunk and going on rides. The wife and I smuggle in vodka and buy non-alcoholic versions of drinks and mix our own drinks. The non-alcoholic versions of drinks are usually about $10 to $12 cheaper than the alcohol versions

    Not until I had kids did I dedicate a full day at DCA. It can get exhausting hopping with little kids (I had 2 under 3) and when they nap half the time it eats up so much time that hopping is unrealistic.
    Another thing I didn't do until I had kids was ride Mater's and Luigi's. I always assumed they were little kid, unthrilling, rides. But they definitely took me by surprise! My son loves them both and now so do I! Also they're usually busy in the mornings when we rope drop.

    I believe it’s because of the hotel guests. When you stay on property you have the luxury of taking a mid day or evening break back in your room. That’s what we do. Also especially if you’re taking advantage of the 30 minute extra early entrance before rope drop. You’re there SO early that you’re exhausted by 3 or 4. So that’s my guess

  • @DrStarlander
    @DrStarlander 2 месяца назад

    Watching your video, I was struck by the awful sightline and transition issues at DCA, such as:
    --The transition from Hollywood Land to the back of Avengers Campus where you walk toward Mission Breakout is terrible. They should put a wall and tunnel there (with a '20s billboard on the Hollywood side to block view) so you don't see the Mission Breakout tower until you emerge from the tunnel.
    --The view of power lines behind Pixar Pier is terrible. They need to put an E-ticket attraction show building behind the Incredicoaster and build a backdrop (like the one at rear of Cars Land and Toontown) behind there as part of the project to block the views of power lines and outside world.
    --The view of the Pixar Place Hotel from the entire stretch of walkway from Cars Land to Goofy's Sky School is the so awful (any view of any hotel would be bad, but this is made worse by how ugly the building is!). They need to build a backdrop behind Paradise Garden Grill, parallel to Disneyland Drive, to block that view.
    --The transition from Little Mermaid Attraction to Grizzly Peak area is weak. The fact that the Little Mermaid building is based on the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco was clever when San Fransokyo was Pacific Wharf, a straight-up San Francisco theme. Now with the Big Hero 6 theme, the Little Mermaid being in a straight up homage to a San Francisco museum no longer makes sense and the fact that Little Mermaid is located at that odd central spot is...regrettable. It will be difficult to make that work, ever. But a rehab of the entire area from Little Mermaid to where you pass under Incredicoaster heading onto the pier would be a good opportunity to revise the exterior of Little Mermaid.
    --The transition from Buena Vista street to Grizzly Peak could have been enhanced with a 1920's example of "California Crazy" architecture which was popular in Los Angeles back then, where buildings were thematically shaped (see Jim Hermann's great book on this). They could have had a refreshment stand shaped like a bear there, something perfect for '20s Los Angeles and a great gateway into Grizzly Peak.

    DCA has been brutally hot since it opened nearly a quarter century ago. Why they haven't planted trees and created shade is beyond me. Do the Imagineers walk through the park...and sweat like guests? They are slated to spend billions of dollars expanding the Disneyland resort...if they just spent $20 million on mature trees and thematically creative shade canopies in DCA it could have the positive attendance impact of a $200 million attraction.

      Right? I hadn't even thought about the price. When we went on Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I did DCA (with the exception of Luigi's and the rides for the really little kids like Critter Carousel) completely from like 10-5. We left way before sunset, and I didn't even feel bad.

    How does Disney update the wait times? Is it the cast members who work the queue? Or is there a control room they monitor from and do it there?

      ALL Disneyland Resort tickets are full day tickets. Disneyland Resort doesn’t offer partial day tickets. Are you possibly referring to parkhopper tickets? Those are full day tickets, but you can hop between parks during your day.

    Every time I go to Disneyland/DCA I get 3 day park hopper tickets, which is several times a year. Typically we start at Disneyland, and once we get in the greatest park in the world we don't want to leave... So after dinner we head over to DCA as it closes before Disneyland to get a few rides in. Then head back over to Disneyland to close the park. I find we do that 99% of the time. But now watching this video I think we should change to after lunch head on over to DCA then close Disneyland. Thanks!

    Can't complain too much about Avengers Campus when I recall DCA 1.0's Bountiful Farms. Still, while wide-screen Web Slingers is bad enough & cancelling live-action stunt shows is pathetic enough, too much concrete is the type of complaint that only a Six-Flags park should be guilty of. SMH

    I got Blue Sky ideas for replacements at Disney California Adventure I know this is gonna be a controversial opinion but i think closing down Muppet Vision 3-D was a big mistake because now Disneyland has no Muppets attraction but I think they should retheme the Paradise Gardens area with The Muppets The Little Mermaid attraction will stay because that is a great ride and I love it but the other attractions near it would close the Golden Zephyr will be rethemed to Pigs in Space from The Muppet Show, Jumpin Jellyfish will be Themed to Hot airballoons themed to Kermit the Frog taken from The Great Muppet Caper, Goofy's Sky School will be Rethemed to The Great Gonzo's StuntMadness and instead of a Airplanes guests will ride on the Plunger car from the Muppet Movie and the attraction takes place in The Great Gonzo's StuntShow Madness and for his 3rd act he invited you the guests on his Plunger Car the beginning of the ride you see Gonzo in his cannon being launched in the sky and then your car jumps though a Fire hoop (Which is not a fire Hoop it's just a hoop painted orange but it glows in the Dark at Night), a circular Saw, and at the end you see Gonzo on his Motorcycle in a slingshow and at the end he crashing himself and the motorcycle on the Stunt show Building and you see his cutout and his Motorcycle on the Building which is a tribute Muppet Vision 3-D and then at the end you unload from the vehicle and exit safety. The pizza place near by will be rethemed to PizzaRizzo from Disney World, and lastly The Silly Symphony Swings will be rethemed to the Electric Mayhem and will be titled The Eletric Mayhem: RockSwings my 2nd other idea is Paradise Gardens attractions like Goofy's Sky School, Golden Zephyr, Jumpin Jellyfish, and Silly Symphony Swings will be demolished for a FreeGuy Land the Land will take place in FreeCity from the Film and the main ride will take rider on a adventure through FreeCity and the attraction will use the same Ride system technology from The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida but instead of Rollercoaster vehicles its the Car that Ryan Reynolds drives in the film the land will contain the Coffee shop and Bubble Gum ice cream stand as seen from the film and the land will sell the Blue Lightsaber and Captain America Shield seen from the film also ok now my 3rd idea is The Hyperion Theater and Stage 12 will be demolished for a ride based on Zootopia the ride will use the same ride system technology used in Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios Hollywood and Florida, my 4th idea is Stage 17 will be a Lucasfilm Restaurant and Mickey's philharmagic will stay but for a limited time Muppet Vision 3-D should come back maybe for the 25th anniversary of Disney California Adventure

    Gen Z were super excited about Inside Out 2, so it's not surprising it has grossed so much money in the first couple weeks. The hype was insane about it! Whereas there wasn't the hype for Elemental. And Inside Out is about 500 times better than Elemental anyway.

    When watching your last State of DL, um, yeah, soooo, why are they choosing to close all of these one day before I arrive in town for D23?!?! And, all of the other D23 fans?!!? Like wait seven days longer?!?! I don't get it. But, as you were talking in that vlog, at the same time you and I both said, "...unless they are going to open Haunted to help offset the crowds." I hope that is the case in DL. But overall, that planning is a huge bummer. Can I also ask (if you read this or any other saavy D23ers do) when does D23 let us know what the presentations and experiences are in which we choose to attend at the convention center? Thanks! And thanks bunches for ALL of your helpful and amazing content! Hey, when I'm there, can we ride in Pixar Pal Around with Chris? 🙂 Omg, I felt sooooo bad for you!!! I hope you recovered quickly.
