Can't wait for you to post all four September races. Harry should be in the hall of fame. It is ridiculous that he continues to be overlooked every year.
I love the driver interviews after the big wreck. "Sunuvabitch, Ernie!!" was pretty much the universal sentiment that nobody was quuuiiiiiittteeee willing to say out loud... except for Felix Sebates!
Ernie Irvan was one heck of a driver. Always loved his aggressive nature but at this point in his career he was still a bit over aggressive. Once he settled down and learned to be more patient he truly was a championship caliber driver... especially when he joined the 28 team. It's something to watch these old races and realize that none of these drivers are racing anymore.
I was about 16 yrs old. We drove my step mother all the way back to Knoxville TN. She had to work that Monday. Then after a short nap my dad , his best friend and me turned around and drove all the way back to Talladega for the race. Great memory but man did it ever piss pour Sunday. I remember them evacuating the grandstands cause of lightning on Sunday and the bottom fell out it rained like crazy !!!. By time we got to.camper didn't have a dry stitch on lol
@@bobbyprice7452 ive heard various stories about the wicked t storm, yes. Having memories like this (mine are se Wisconsin Mile and short tracks) got me through some of my not so good days. Having said all of THAT i gotta get to Dega even though theres no way its gonna be as good as what you saw
@@MrChristopherHaas sadly this was my last trip to Dega. Been to Daytona a couple times , Richmond, Atlanta and Bristol a bunch but just haven't made it back. We used to go at least once a year every year from around 1982 until then. Saw some awesome events was there when Allison got into the grandstands. But life took over grew up got married had kids couldn't afford to go lol But man did I have some great times as a kid. I just don't get into Nascar today like I used to. Guess I'm an old fogie. But it aint what it once was to me. Used to be able to identify with drivers, teams , cars and owners. They were regular folks like us. Nowadays it's rich kids, engineers, cars that look the same and 4 guys own 80% of the field. I miss the old days
I'm so grateful I was watching this golden era of NASCAR racing back in the day. I saw this race live from Phoenix. I must've took Monday off and called in sick.
Did he said "looks like a junkyard"? Yep. Just like the big one crash of 1973 Winston 500 at Talladega, over dozens racecars wrecked, including Wendell Scott has been injury.
I've often wondered what would have happened if they had required a 300 cu in engine, 390 cfm carburetor, and 11:1 compression ratio maximum, instead of these stupid ass restrictor plates? And maybe 87-93 octane unleaded fuel like we all buy in the USA.
You wanna see what it looks like watch a Busch race with the 6 cylinders at the plate tracks It’s around 300ci an were based off the sbc but just a 6 cylinder block and small 350-400cfm carb on them. They sounded like a swarm of pissed off yellow jackets passing by
@@garymack9734 When they returned to Talladega in July, Ernie was in the drivers' meeting and apologized for all the incidents that he clearly started. This came a week after what must be still to this day, the largest crash in Pocono Raceway history coming off of turn 3. That's the wreck that had the King's car get airborne and Earnhardt was among I think 12 cars involved. Later on, Earnhardt pushed Rusty Wallace through the rain in his damaged car because Rusty was low on gas. He followed Rusty on the final lap to be sure he didn't bump him, and Wallace wound up with the win.
That's because Richard and maurice could never truly figure out that first gen race car 87 was that last yr he raced a car with a factory nose clips and 87 turned out to be pettys final competitive season
The 1991 Winston 500 was the biggest story of the 11th Year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television as "The Big One" occured when Mark Martin's #6 Folgers Coffee Ford went airbourne and 21 other cars were crashed. This race was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and was going to be aired on May 6, 1991, but was rescheduled on May 7, 1991 via tape delay on GMA Radio-Television Arts at 2:30 P.M. right after Goodyear NASCAR Today with Rico Hizon and Bobby Guanzon

Benny loved saying “ 3 a breast”
He used to say it 25-30 times per race
It's hilarious how they put (FINALLY) on the Goodnight Satellite slide...
1:57:49 - Rick Mast's car looks like it went pond hopping.
It's amazing how more or less they use 2 or 3 abreast instead or 2-wide or 3-wide. Hearing 3-wide was rare then and 3 abreast is rare today..
I was not even 1 yet when this race took place and I love old races they are so. Much better then races now
Rick Mast spinning through the puddles with his foot still jammed in it, lol.
40:13 Driver Interviews! ft Kenny Schrader, Ernie Irvan, Davey Allison, Kyle Petty, Harry Gant, Alan Kulwicki, Hut Stricklin
Ernie Ervan before race...gotta stay out of trouble. Without remembering this race i started laughing hysterically. The man was a wrecking machine
Swervin ervin
Harry Gant was a heck of a race car driver.
I miss B.P. 🤗❤🤗😥

How I miss ESPN covering the race 2021 coverage just stinks along with the racing

If I recall correctly, Kyle Petty busted up his leg pretty good in that big wreck.
Broke it with bone coming through the skin, he thought it was severed and he lost it...
