    Thanks for putting this video together. Have the same fridge with the same problems. Replacing the ice door, and the buttons, since they’ve gotten very stiff over the last 10+ years. I’ve replaced the ice auger motor and sent one of the control boards off to FL for repair. Working to keep this fridge going! Thanks again for the tutorial. Very, very helpful.

      Thanks for the feedback. I recently had a problem where the ice door is not closing tightly and it is actually due to the control board failing (the “Niagara” board. I was also getting intermittent beeping when dispensing water. I just replaced the board and it fixed that problem. I’ll post that video soon. Please subscribe so you’ll get a notice when I post that or other videos on this unit.

      @@dontscrewitup That's interesting. Where is the "Niagra" board located? I'm also having an issue with water not dispensing when the button is pushed. Just beeps. Does that sound like the same symptom you had?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  2 года назад +1

      Yes. Exactly the same issue I had. Ice door will not close tightly and water dispenser beeps. The control board is located up in the top of the fridge. There are two of them up there. The one on the right is the “Niagara” board and it fixed all the issue I was having with ice and water dispensers. The relays and capacitors wear out over time. Mine is 13 years old. The hardest part of the repair is getting the old board out.

    Hi Tom. This is Chris coming to you from Houston TX. Your video is amazing!! I set for a few days staring at my Jenn Air trying to figure out how to access and replace the ice door mechanism and then I found your video Our model is slightly different but the mechanism was identical. I found it for about $40 online and finished the replacement in about 30 mins. The interesting thing was your big block of ice. The symptoms we ran into was ice in the container inside the door melting from warm air going up the open chute. The melting ice was causing a constant flow into the tray. I shoved a rag in the chute to hold the ice door closed and figured that was my life going forward. Love the detail and your style. Especially liked the deep thought (8:06 - 8:14).

    Outstanding, thorough video Tom! This is virtually identical to my 2011 Kitchen Aid KSC42QVS02 model with a few minor differences. The parts look the same. This helped me out a lot. Many thanks! I believe Whirlpool also makes Jenn Air and Kitchen Aid refrigerators, so probably not surprising.

    Hi Tom-great video. I have a similar model, mfg 2011. All parts/mechanisms look the same except for our handles on the door. I had the frozen ice bin like you had, and poured the hot water in there to release the bin. Before that we had tried for a bit to get ice by putting a glass under the dispenser (not for too long, about 10-20 seconds) a few times. After the water freed up the blades inside the ice bin, it was free and we removed it. That was the beginning of my troubles. When I put the bin back on, the refer started beeping and the ice dispenser light was on crushed like I had my glass under it to get some ice and kept going on and off, along with the light. At this point I thought maybe the auger motor was out as when I pressed the button for ice nothing came on. I replaced the auger motor and could hear it running but no ice would come out. Then I thought it was the ice bin coupling that engages the rod that turns the auger. I replaced that. Nothing. Motor worked but nothing turning. The only other thing I hadn't replaced was the auger motor rod-so I have that on order. Tonight out of nowhere the ice dispenser started glitching on it's own, lighting up, ice bin door opening, beeping and just acting crazy. I unplugged the auger motor and it's still doing it. I reset the refer as well as tripped the breaker and it still is going. I even tried locking the panel, and it still was acting crazy. Do you think by pouring the water in the ice bin, I messed up some electronics? On a side note-after replacing the auger motor I had water through the dispenser, everything worked fine but no ice would come down the chute because it auger wasn't turning. Then this crazyiness happened out of nowhere. Any advice? Thank you so much! Destiny

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. It sounds like the electronics are going bad or you got water inside the circuit board.
      However, I also had a similar problem with the auger and auger motor. When you put the auger rod into the auger motor I actually had to hit it with a hammer to get the rod fully into the socket of the auger motor. It was sitting on top of the sock and looked like it was engaged, but was just sitting on top of the socket and not fully inserted into auger motor socket. I can’t recall how I diagnosed this as the problem, but once it locked in place it worked fine.
      Good luck. Let me know what you find.

      @@dontscrewitup Tom thanks. Funny you say that, after I put the new auger motor in, AND removed the rod and re-installed it I could still turn the rod by hand very easily, meaning it probably is not engaging the auger motor at the bottom. I will try that next. Thank you!

    Hi Tom,
    I have same fridge but my ice don’t dispense, it does make a click noise but no ice comes out. Motor is not turning and there is no blockage. What Pat could it be ?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  2 года назад

      Probably the circuit board. It is the “Niagara” board. I’ve replaced mine. The water dispenser would click and beep intermittently. My fridge is 12 years old. It fixed it when I replaced the board. If you’re having intermittent issues with the water and ice dispensers (ice door not sealing tightly) this is likely. Your water line could also be frozen. Tell me more about exactly what’s happening.

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  2 года назад

      It could also be the ice auger motor if you are not hearing the motor turning at all. That is an easy fix.

    Tom...great videos. I have a KitchenAid KRSC503ess00 but the overall concept is similar. My ice compartment flapper works when I depress the ice paddle but the ice dispenser auger does not operate when the ice paddle is depressed. Since the flapper and auger operate off the ice paddle, would it be safe to say the paddle is still good but the auger is broken. Is there a continuity check or a way to test the auger to determine if it is defective?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  2 года назад

      Thanks. Is the auger motor running? On my unit, sometimes the auger rod becomes disengaged from the motor. You can hear the motor running but the auger rod is not turning. The auger rod sometimes gets iced up on top and this can be cleared out so the ice buck sits firmly on the top of the auger rod. Or it can slip out of the motor on the bottom. A light tap with a rubber mallet will often reseat the rod in the motor. I don’t know how to test the voltage going to the motor leads with the door open, or how to test the motor if you take it out and try to test it on the bench. You can probably look up specs for the motor, remove it and connect it to the proper power source and see if it spins.

      @@dontscrewitup Thx Tom...my motor does not engage when I push the paddle. The flapper engages but not the auger motor. I've taken it out, inspected the spring, rubber gasket and the rod. All are in good condition and there is no ice. Based on your assessment and what Amar stated below, I feel it is a broken auger so I will bit the bullet and purchase a new one.

    Fixed that problem, Tom thank you! Tapping with the rubber mallet screwdriver tip did it! Unfortunately I have another issue: Ice maker grinded all the ice into shavings/solid ice in the mechanism in. the ice bucket. Ice bucket is stuck on the door-I cannot get it to release. In the process of all this I screwed up and broke the blue lever, so only the inside lever that's white I can push to release. With it frozen to the door AND not turning AND the blue part gone to release it-I'm in trouble. What's the safest way to get it thawed out to get it to release AND do you have a good way to ensure you are getting the right replacement bin? I cannot find it anywhere. There are a lot of look-a-likes but not any that match this bin exactly. I think I should get a new one once I get it released. Thanks in advance

      Thanks- My model # is js48sedudw13 it's very similar to the model you show in the video but not exactly the same. I think the JS48 model has a lot of different series. Mine is from 2011/2012. We bought the house last year so not the original owners. Thanks for the link-comes in two parts and the bottom part is out of stock of course. I did find this and ordered it, but not sure it will fit. www.genuinereplacementparts.com/index.php?cPath=677777&active=2296084 Problem: I still have to remove the bin that stuck on our end. I'm super nervous to pour the hot water down the ice bin however because last time it seems like I shorted out the control panel for a few days till it dried out. Any tips on that? Is it possible to just order the blue button and affix it back to the white lever inside, or is once the blue button breaks off, it's toast? This is a terrible design for a $10k luxury refer!

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  3 года назад

      You can use a hair dryer to melt the ice, but be careful because it will get hot enough to melt the plastic. I think you can buy the blue button only and install it from the bottom of the ice bin. It is a little tricky because it is spring loaded, but I took mine out and put it back in one time, before it broke.

      @@dontscrewitup Thanks so much! So I bought a new ice bin, was exactly what I needed, OEM genuine brand new for $120 not bad. So I couldn't remove the old ice bin and tried to use a hair dryer but that wouldn't budge it. Had to pour water down the ice chute. Melted the ice stuck and I was able to remove the ice bin. Carefully dried everything and put the new bin on...and worked great for exactly one day. My wife screamed at me and told me the ice maker was shooting out ice! The ice dispenser was stuck on with no glass or without being pressed. Again I think we screwed up something by running water down the ice chute for some reason. So... we thawed everything out again, and put the bin back on. When you reset the control panel by holding down the three buttons, you can hear the auger motor moving. The ice spinner arm inside moves freely, BUT the pad for the ice dispenser on the outside is now dead. No response. Do you think we fried the pad connector or something by pouring water down the chute? The control panel works fine, except for it showed cubed ice moving into a glass like you are getting ice with your cup there pressing the button AND the LED light will not go off no matter what you press. I"ve tried to reset the entire fridge, tripped the breaker several times and reset the control panel. Any other ideas?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup  3 года назад +1

      Remove the ice tray and there are two hex head screws holding the auger rod in place. Pull that out with pliers. The auger motor is in a panel on the inside of the door just above the first shelf. It is a white access panel with two screws. It is a pretty easy replacement. I’ve done it. When you reinstall the auger rod, make sure you tap it down into the motor. It needs to be seated properly on the motor and mine to a few taps with a rubber mallet.

    Hi Tom, I’m hoping you can shed some light on my situation. I have the exact same fridge, model, year, etc. My water line going to the water dispenser broke, underneath the freezer, just after that gray ‘conduit’ looking part connecting under the freeze door. It appears there is a mesh covering over some wiring and the plastic water line, that feeds up through the door. It also appears that there isn’t any slack in this hose, which is possibly why the hose broke. Definitely a design fault! My question is this… what are your thoughts on this ‘possible’ repair? I’m really hoping you can offer your opinion to me.
    I did see another RUclipsr who managed to use a connector and reconnect the break. ruclips.net/video/3qIkr1-Q5H4/видео.html
